How do you approach CE? Do you view it as a checkbox forced on you by your state board, or is it an opportunity to make your dental practice better? Today, I'm talking about the mindset and strategies you can employ to get the most out of your CE experiences.
This week I share the core courses that have helped shape where I am today and why it's so important to make your education a crucial part of your success game plan. Despite all the big changes in my career and personal life, I have always made time to continue studies in important clinical topics such as occlusion, full mouth rehabilitation, Invisalign, cosmetic and implant dentistry, not to mention, Digital Smile Design. What I know for sure is that hard work pays off and if you are looking for more ideas on what to take next, this episode is for you! I would also love to hear what courses have shaped your career, so DM me on IG @drpeggybown, LinkedIn, or email me peggy@smilesbybown.com.
In this week's Thriving Dentist Show podcast, Gary shares valuable information on world-class CE resources with many details on courses plus dentists that will help our listeners get accredited and certified to join the elite group of world-class dentists. Having been in the dental industry for more than 40 years, one of the things Gary has noticed is the importance of CE to dentists. Unfortunately, some dentists barely take the required CE and scramble towards it by the end of the year with CE lapses, trying to keep their license. But, on the other hand, the world-class dentists will often achieve it in the first two to three months, and they'll take a geometric level of additional CE, which will assist them, to achieve two main benefits. This episode will help them know more details on the various CE resources that will benefit them immensely and, he further stresses on: Why is CE so important to dentists? What is the correlation between dentists and the amount of CE they've taken? Why does CE bring happiness and satisfaction to dentists? How does CE improve the number of patients you get and make them fortunate? Does CE cost a lot? Resources

It’s time for another episode of the Dental Slang Podcast! Today’s guest is a true dental legend. Dr. Michael Cohen is the founder of the Seattle Study Club, and he’s hopping on the mic today fresh from a presentation in Copenhagen. The topic of that presentation—dental education—comes up in today’s episode, but first we discuss what inspired him to found one of the most well-known study clubs in the dental community. The creation of the Seattle Study Club network stemmed from a need for continuing education. In the early days, these study clubs were more social gatherings than they were an exchange of ideas. Michael wanted to give dentists the opportunity to interact clinically, tap into what he calls their own “databanks of knowledge,” and ultimately become more proficient at diagnostics and treatment planning by working together. The power of collaboration inspired Michael to create this “university without walls.” He went back to school to learn how to better deliver continuing education, allowing him to bring the university to dentists who don’t have the luxury of going back to school. Now, with the Seattle Study Club and his lecture and symposium circuit, dentists can continue to learn new skills and hone their craft without having to sit in a classroom for months on end. The power of collaboration is truly transforming the way dentists learn. The topic at Michael’s latest presentation in Copenhagen was just that—how dental education is evolving. Millennial dentists are changing not only what we are learning but how we seek out education and mentors. The digital age isn’t going anywhere, and the computers and the technology these young dentists are using won’t disappear. This evolution in education is bred from the human element we all crave when we’re learning something new. Learning from each other is the fastest, most effective way for clinicians to grow, and that’s something Millennial dentists are catching on to quick. Some more seasoned dentists might not realize these changes are happening, but Michael certainly does. That’s why he’s bringing fresh, new teaching techniques to not only the Seattle Study Club but also to his lectures and his latest symposium, which is slated for February. If you’re interested in learning more about this evolution in dental education, tune in to find out how you can attend the World Team Treatment Planning Championships as well as a few choice lectures coming in the New Year. Because it’s no longer about just being a better dentist. It’s about being a more complete clinician. We’ve got advice today on how to do just that, as well as some new slang to go along with it. Tune in now! In This Episode You Will Learn The true origin story of the Seattle Study Club 1:45 The truth about treatment planning 7:25 All about the power of collaboration 14:14 How the landscape of dental education is evolving 19:13 How to use a study club like a security blanket for your education and career 25:29 Our favorite slang used by the Seattle Study Club 29:48 Some Questions We Discuss What happened when Michael added interactive sessions to early Seattle Study Club meetings? 5:04 Why did Michael decide to go back to school? 8:18 Which mentors have influenced Michael the most? 10:38 What does dentistry have to do with Polaroid cameras and vinyl records? 16:30 What’s happening at the World Team Treatment Planning Championships in 2020? 20:29 Resources Visit our website: www.DentalSlang.com Connect with us on Facebook: Dental Slang Connect with Dr. Michael Cohen on Facebook: Seattle Study Club Learn more about Dr. Saul Schluger Want to attend the World Team Treatment Planning Championships in 2020?
