Sustained periods of quality play have been hard to come by this season for the Los Angeles Lakers, but Monday they put together some decent quarters en route to a 131-120 win over the Cavaliers. LeBron James was fantastic, notching 38 points with 11 rebounds and 12 assists, Russell Westbrook finished with 20/11, and only one turnover. DJ Augustin didn't miss a shot! And the Lakers as a team looked like they were having fun, a rarity this season for very obvious reasons. They played a pretty good game against Toronto on Friday, then three-fourths of a good game the next night against Washington. Monday, they rallied from a slow start to notch a very solid win. Is it ok to believe in the possibility of this team having possibilities? Even a little?Meanwhile, the Lakers played a lineup Monday that would have been impossible to predict in the preseason, because most of the guys weren't on the team (Wenyen Gabriel, Stanley Johnson, Augustin) or barely expected to play (Austin Reaves). What does that say about the roster construction, and does it mean danger signs for next year?HOSTS: Andy and Brian KamenetzkySEGMENT 1: The Lakers won, and had fun doing it. That matters. Squint, and you see the blueprint again.SEGMENT 2: One reason the Lakers came through: They scored enough points to stay close in a shaky defensive first quarter. Also, Westbrook was good.SEGMENT 3: What Monday's lineups say about how this team was constructed, and what the Lakers face this offseason.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!PrizePicksCheck out PrizePicks.com and use promo code: “NBA” or go to your app store and download the app today. A dominant LeBron game, an efficient and impactful Westbrook performance on offense, a hot shooting night from DJ Augustin, and a very well coached Frank Vogel game got the Lakers a big win in Cleveland. LeBron James was back in the lineup. Russell Westbrook had his best game in weeks. Malik Monk, Austin Reaves, and DJ Augustin (!!!) all made big contributions. And yet the Lakers lost to a (now) 17-win Houston Rockets team because they turned the ball over, missed too many free throws, and couldn't play defense to save their lives.Deja vu, all over again. And again, and again. So is this a new low? Is it actually, seriously-we-mean-it-this-time rock bottom? Does it even matter, anymore? The Lakers are a really, really bad basketball team. They seem to have lost belief in the possibility of meeting their original goals, or to set replacement goals (beyond "get this over with as fast as possible") which is a major no-no for a professional sports team. So why have they lost belief? Is it reasonable? What about heart? What defines "heart" for a team like the Lakers? How/why are they falling short? There are a lot of things to dislike about this group. Is "heart," or the lack thereof, one of the biggest?HOSTS: Andy and Brian KamenetzkySEGMENT 1: The Lakers lose to the Rockets. For the same reasons they've lost to so many other bad teams. On the one hand, the Lakers responded with a significantly better effort on Tuesday, in the wake of Sunday's utter debacle against New Orleans. But nonetheless, the results weren't any different. Dallas beat them, doing what 10 of their last 13 opponents have to the Lakers. LeBron played a better game, and got a little support from Carmelo Anthony, but Russell Westbrook was a disaster offensively, and Malik Monk's slump continued.Frank Vogel tried out a new starting lineup and a new rotation, but again it didn't really matter. Why? Are there any more levers to pull? Is there a combination of players the Lakers could use that would make a significant difference?Running out of time to find out, as the Lakers slip dangerously close to the 10th seed, and even the possibility of missing the play in tournament, entirely.Meanwhile, after it was over, Westbrook looked totally despondent. And while his play deserves all the criticism it is getting, on a human level it was hard not to feel some sympathy for the guy. This stretch in LA, which was supposed to be a grand and uplifting homecoming, has been a disaster. Finally, the Lakers signed forward Wenyen Gabriel and guard DJ Augustin. Lakers Signed DJ Augustin; Waived DeAndre Jordan | Lakers Signed Wenyen Gabriel To A Two-Way Deal The Los Angeles Lakers didn't make any significant changes to their underperforming roster ahead of the trade deadline, but they will reportedly make a move to bolster their backcourt before the season's stretch run. Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium reported on Monday the Purple and Gold "intend to waive DeAndre Jordan and sign free agent guard D.J. Augustin" to back up Russell Westbrook and provide additional shooting. Charania also reported the Lakers plan to sign Wenyen Gabriel to a two-way NBA contract. Gabriel played collegiately at Kentucky and has appeared in a combined 58 NBA games the past three seasons for the Sacramento Kings, Portland Trail Blazers, New Orleans Pelicans, Brooklyn Nets and Los Angeles Clippers. He played seven games this season for the Nets and Clippers and averaged 2.0 points and 2.1 rebounds. The Jordan and Augustin move is the one that will generate the most headlines considering their respective resumes. After all, there was a time when Jordan was one of the most productive big men in the league during his prime on the Clippers. He was an All-Star in 2016-17 and is a three-time All-NBA selection, two-time All-Defensive selection and two-time rebounding champion. Yet Jordan's days of skying above the rim for Chris Paul alley-oops and notching double-doubles on an almost nightly basis appear to be in the past. The 33-year-old played 32 games for the Lakers this season and averaged 4.1 points and 5.4 rebounds a night. Jordan largely fell out of the team's rotation and hasn't played more than 20 minutes since Dec. 19. The addition of Augustin will give the Lakers another ball-handler and veteran presence in the backcourt. The Texas product has been in the league since the 2008-09 campaign and has suited up for the Charlotte Hornets, Indiana Pacers, Toronto Raptors, Chicago Bulls, Detroit Pistons, Oklahoma City Thunder, Denver Nuggets, Orlando Magic, Milwaukee Bucks and Houston Rockets. He appeared in 34 games this season for the Rockets and averaged 5.4 points, 2.2 assists and 1.2 rebounds while shooting an impressive 40.6 percent from three-point range. It is that shooting that surely made Augustin attractive for Los Angeles considering Westbrook notoriously struggles from deep and there are plenty of outside looks available when playing alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis. So Z Nation, what do you think about the Lakers signing DJ Augustin and waiving DeAndre Jordan??? Comments down below

The Milwaukee Bucks obviously are going to have Giannis Antetokounmpo, Khris Middleton, and Jrue Holiday out there at the end of a close game. Who should the next two players be, and is there any chance somebody acquired via trade or the buyout market is a closer for this team? Rohan and Ti dive into both questions, starting with Donte DiVincenzo's candidacy for being the fourth guy and running through a whole host of Bucks to be the fifth, including Brook Lopez, Bryn Forbes, DJ Augustin, Bobby Portis, and Pat Connaughton, before diving in on if they could see basically every available player closing games for the Bucks.
