Around The Dial clicks through Futurama S13, Rivals, and Celebrity Weakest Link, then takes a trip to the cinema for Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale. Later, we went Around The Dial with Only Murders In The Building's fifth season, 30 Rock's YouTube channel, and Love Con Revenge before Will tried to find room in the Canon budget for Dept. And that truth is: none of us thinks you should bother, including returning guest Will Leitch, who agrees that We Were Liars moves too slowly; shows AND tells too fart-sniffily; wastes the talents of an impressive cast, including Mamie Gummer and David Morse; and is based on a property whose author sounds fake. We went Around The Dial with the very real The Chicken Sisters, Untold, and The Mortician before Tara's Canon pitch reunited us with Party Down's third-season premiere. Show notes:The ESG backlash is real, and it is polarising. The rhetoric around it exacerbated because of roll backs by corporates and governments on climate/energy commitments. According to a leading ESG publication, Trump's victory in the world's second largest democracy, is likely to result in roll backs on climate and ESG regulation in the country and retreat from the global stage. Despite all the noise against ESG - asset managers globally are expected to increase their ESG related AuM to US$33.9 trillion by 2026 (84% growth). The driver for growth for ESG activity is not altruism but value creation. In India the world's largest democracy there are reasons for cautious optimism, with the government introducing a slew of policy changes over the last decade, that makes it obligatory for organisations to adopt an ESG lens for sustainability reporting. Since 2022-23, the top 1000 listed companies are obliged to follow the Business Responsibility and Sustainability Reporting framework. The driver of course is India's ambition to be a 7 trillion economy by 2030. There is lots to be done but the country is on the path.To discuss India's journey on ESG and Sustainability reporting I spoke with Arvind Chari and Chirag Mehta, Quantum Advisors in the 124th episode of The Elephant in the Room podcast. The focus of the conversation was global and local trends and Quantum's own approach to ESG investing. We spoke about
Ellen is spearheading the integration of Mastercard's Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) strategy into the organization. As part of this work, she is driving climate leadership for Mastercard-wide programs and commitments, such as reaching net-zero emissions by 2040, and helping accelerate the company's impact in climate action initiatives like Priceless Planet Coalition. Mastercard's ESG efforts, established more than a decade ago, are rooted in a belief of doing well by doing good in order to have true impact and enable both people and the planet to thrive. Previously, Ellen served as Chief Impact Officer and Head of Sustainable Impact at HP. Her global team developed and delivered a wide range of programs focused on climate action, human rights and digital equity. Earlier in her career, she served in several management and consulting roles. Ellen is part of the advisory board of the Ocean Plastics Leadership Network, is a deputy advisor on the World Economic Forum's Champions for Nature community and has served as a faculty member of The Prince of Wales's Business & Sustainability Programme at the University of Cambridge. Ellen Joins Sustainable Nation to Discuss: Mastercard's net zero goals, sustainable consumption strategy, and inclusive climate action Decoupling emissions from growth through strategies like tying compensation to progress on ESG targets/supplier engagement MasterCard's Priceless Planet Coalition Advice and recommendations for sustainability professionals Ellen's Final Five Questions Responses: What is one piece of advice you would give other sustainability professionals that might help them in their careers? The way I think about sustainability jobs now, every job is a sustainability job. Some people may have heard that before, but I truly believe that, especially as we're working across all the different areas of MasterCard to innovate in this space. I need marketing professionals to help us inspire more sustainable consumption in the messaging that they're creating and in the partnerships and the sponsorships that they're funding. I need engineering to be thinking about how energy efficient is the code they're creating, they need to be on board with this as well. I need our technology team to ensure that when we're expanding our data centers, they're choosing the most sustainable servers and partners who can help us innovate and achieve net zero. So no matter what role you're in, there really is a sustainability impact and an angle to that job. I just encourage people to think about what they can do to raise the bar to make more aggressive progress in this space. What are you most excited about right now in the world of sustainability? We're just seeing such a shift. There's never been so much positive energy in terms of tackling the climate crisis and it's coming from all different areas. The next generation is certainly being more vocal than ever before. I'm seeing innovation and inspiration come from different colleagues where maybe you didn't hear it so much in the past, but now, everybody wants to be on the sustainability team and they're bringing real ideas and solutions and innovation. I just feel like the energy that is focused on this issue right now is stronger than ever before, and I think that's really exciting. What is one book you'd recommend sustainability leaders read? I tend to be more of a podcaster or a newspaper reader, so I'm going to choose a book that's based on my favorite podcast, Outrage and Optimism. The book is The Future We Choose by Christiana Figueres and Tom Rivett-Carnac. What are some of your favorite resources or tools that really help you in your work? I mentioned Outrage and Optimism, that podcast, if you haven't listened to it, I think it's a fantastic resource. Project Drawdown continues to bring incredible tools as well to this space. In terms of staying on top of the latest news, the climate forward section of the New York Times I find is very valuable. The Guardian also reports quite a bit in this space. So lots of different resources, but I'll always go back to Outrage and Optimism. Where can our listeners go to learn more about you and the work being done at MasterCard? You can follow me on LinkedIn, Ellen Jackowski. If you want more information about what MasterCard is doing or to skim our EHG report, you can go to the MasterCard website, mastercard.com and search sustainability and you'll find lots of resources and information there.

He talks about the advantages of the Latitude sticks, which are much lighter than his previous gear, and how this change will impact his hunting strategy this season. I share a wild story about almost getting scammed while trying to buy a new Hoyt bow. After a series of suspicious interactions and a fake motorcycle accident, I finally managed to get the bow from a legitimate seller. This experience has made me more cautious about online transactions, and I emphasize the importance of using secure payment methods like PayPal goods and services. With September here, our excitement for deer season is ramping up. We discuss the early opening of various states' hunting seasons and the unusual early crop turn this year. This could make for an interesting mid-season, especially with the potential EHG scare due to the wet summer. Matt shares his struggles with getting a successful food plot going this year. Despite multiple attempts and different seed brands, heavy rains have thwarted his efforts. However, he's optimistic about his latest planting and hopes it will attract deer come October. We also touch on our out-of-state hunting plans. Matt will be heading to South Dakota for a pheasant hunt and later to Missouri for deer hunting. Looking ahead, we have trips planned to Kansas and Iowa, which promise better chances at larger bucks compared to Michigan. As we wrap up, we reflect on the upcoming season and our strategies. Whether it's focusing on private land or exploring new public land spots, we're both eager to see what this hunting season has in store. Monty Ashley returned not just to EHG but to the distant past, as the panel contemplated Peacock's ancient-Succession drama, Those About To Die. The CGI is pretty ancient too, but did any of the storylines make us want to keep watching? Did Sarah D. "Horse Girl" Bunting care about the stables subplot? And how much chariot-racing is too much? Then we neck-acted our way Around The Dial with Cobra Kai, The Boys, and the soothing Midnight Diner: Tokyo Stories before clambering into a Dumpster for Monty's The Chris Gethard Show Canon submission. And finally, it was time to swear at-- er, IN a TV-president Game Time from Dan Cassino. Oscar-winners, grenades, and avant-garde casting choices around RFK Sr. in this all-new Extra Hot Great. The Good [X]-verse returns to network television with Elsbeth, a procedural starring Carrie Preston's capital-Q Quirky Elsbeth Tascioni -- and Adam Grosswirth returns to EHG to talk about how the show is trying to have it both ways with the character's historical anti-establishment attitude; whether these creators should have moved this set of shows' universe off of streaming; and what exactly is in all those massive tote bags. We went Around The Dial with Love Is Blind's sixth season, So You Think You Can Dance's surprise return, and Sarah's belated finishing of The Good Fight, and then we threw Tubi's tortured new brand identity into the ring of Will Dave Hate This?. Wendy told us about Tasha Yar in her Canon pitch for a Star Trek: The Next Generation episode before Netflix won, Paramount+ lost, and we confronted time rifts of our own during Game Time. Diaphragms, double spaces, and thee: it's an all-new Extra Hot Great! GUESTS
Mon dieu: Dashiell Hammett's legendary P.I. Sam Spade is back on AMC -- and because he's now noiring it up in the south of France, legendary Gallic guest Mademoiselle Caroline is back to talk about it. Is the limited series too long, or not long enough? How well does star Clive Owen contend with the character's, and Humphrey Bogart's, legend? And should we strike until we get the full-frontal outtakes from the swimming scenes? Later, we went Around The Dial with Mr. Bates Vs. The Post Office, So Help Me Todd, and For All Mankind, and Tara tried to paint a pretty picture of a King Of Queens episode for the Canon. Clone High won, Julia lost, and WE may have gotten lost in translation in a French-themed Non-Regulation Game Time. It's an all-new Extra Hot Great, and c'est magnifique. GUESTS
Bodies is the latest comic book to get a limited series adaptation at Netflix; Devindra Hardawar returns to discuss its many storylines, and timelines! Around The Dial takes us through Savior Complex; RoboDoc: The Creation Of RoboCop; and (speaking of multiple timelines) various different iterations of Alfred Hitchcock on TV. Erin presents the series premiere of Starstruck for induction into The Canon. Then, after naming the week's Winner and Loser, we compete in a Game Time that's all 1s and 0s. Grab your badge and join us! GUESTS
Reservation Dogs is back on FX/Hulu this week, and Variety's Alison Herman is back on EHG to talk about the show's final season: realistic teenage-character arcs, spiritual cousins to Atlanta, and the meanings of "home." We went Around The Dial with This Fool, Minx's second season, and Hunted, aka "the darkest Amazing Race" (which we completely forgot we covered the American version of in a long-ago episode) before Tara took the solo on a Girls5Eva Canon pitch. The Glovers' future won, the former Arrow lost, and we set our minds to siblings of the small screen in Game Time. The bus is leaving, so charge up your phone for an all-new Extra Hot Great. GUESTS
Anne Rice source material is back on TV, and Best Evidence's Eve Batey is back to talk about Mayfair Witches, the latest Rice IP to hit the small screen. Listen and find out whether anyone on the panel is going to keep watching, how realistic an Alexandra D'Addario neurosurgeon is, why Interview With The Vampire works better than this one, and when to stop reading Rice. We also went Around The Dial with Harry & Meghan, Slow Horses, The Circle, and "randomized" show Kaleidoscope, before Mlle. Caroline urged us to bet on Supernatural for the Nonac. Abbott Elementary won, various Housewives lost, and Rob Hartmann scrambled our brains with Game Time. Grab your thickest blue gel: it's an all-new Extra Hot Great. GUESTS
Book critic and The Maris Review host Maris Kreizman is here to discuss Hulu's glowingly reviewed adaption of Fleishman Is In Trouble, whether it works as TV given its structure as a book, and how. Is it better for people who didn't read the book? Is the pleasure in watching what Claire Danes, Lizzy Caplan, and the former Seth Cohen do with the roles? And is Hannah the most sympathetically slappable TV tween of all time? Later, we went Around The Dial with a Married At First Sight recap, Gypsy, and Spector, and Dave was not a crackpot about titling conventions. Lynsey, Katherine, and their dog hoped they wouldn't saw the panel in half when they submitted a third-season ep of The Magicians to the Canon. NBC won, the Chrisleys lost, and we returned to those thrilling days of yester-century for a period-piece Game Time. Did Paramount+'sTulsa King SLY-ly (sorry) work its way into our hearts? The Filmcast's Devindra Hardawar is back to talk about the Sylvester Stallone vehicle, good pacing, bad wigs, and making room for weirdly charming B-minus viewing in your viewing diet. Later, we had Tyson drive us Around The Dial, with stops for The Big Brunch, the ends of The Crown and Atlanta AND The Good Fight, and true-crime royal-watching. Mike hoped we would NOT eliminate The Middleman with his Canon presentation of the show's eighth episode. Big thanks to Nick for stepping in last-minute for our winter-television preview: all the new or returning shows we're psyched for (like The White Lotus), all the shows we should be psyched for but aren't (like Welcome To Chippendales), and a bunch of shows nobody should be psyched for or even in the same room as (didn't we cancel Criss Angel in the aughts?). It's the first week of September -- traditionally the time when students go back to school (and if your district is one of those cess pools that call kids back in early August: get yourself on the school board and FIX IT). So in recognition of the moment, we've chosen 27 TV educators to face each other in the Thunderdome and, per usual, fight to the death. Do magic users and telepaths have an advantage over literal murderers? Our resident (reluctant) GoT expert Jeff Drake is back to talk about HBO's ponderous, poorly wigged prequel to Game Of Thrones, House Of The Dragon -- who it's for, why it's so murkily lit, when it's going to get out of the administrative world-building weeds and get interesting, and which actors are making us long for the upcoming time jump. After that, we jumped into Around The Dial with She-Hulk: Attorney At Law, Bluey's third season, and Untold: The Girlfriend Who Didn't Exist, and Erica challenged us to drop Jeff "the Dude" Bridges into existing shows. The gang slipped and slid towards the Canon in a twelfth-season It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia pitch; Paul Rudd won, and arranged TV marriages lost; and Game Time had us contemplating the shows that just keep draggin' on. Beloved baseball movie in which there is no crying A League Of Their Own is the latest film to get a series reboot -- with a bunch of twists -- on Amazon Prime. We talked to Yahoo! Sports's Liz Roscher about the casting, the bifurcated stories, whether the baseball holds up, what happened to the Rockford Peaches' manager (and to Candy Bar Guy #1), and all that 2022 dialogue rattling around 1943. Is it a homer, or a whiff? We also went Around The Dial with Never Have I Ever, Drag Race's international entries, the Better Call Saul series finale, and a This Fool follow-up before Liz tasked herself with getting a Series 7 ep of Taskmaster into the Canon. The state of New Jersey was a winner, the surveillance state was a loser, and we rolled ourselves a nice fat Game Time about S04.E20s. Should you put that mustard on a hot dog, or your face? We'd email them back "Ha ha ha, good one, Chet" and go about our business. Now we are told this is a real thing that real nice people do. Value for value? In today's topsy turvy world? It's madness but that good kind of madness, like when you wake up at 3:15am and clean your house. Or something. In all seriousness, we are humbled by your continued prodding to get a Patreon page up for EHG and here it is! Extra Hot Great on Patreon See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
The latest live-action Disney Plus series to tell us what happened between Star Wars movies is Obi-Wan Kenobi, and first-time guest Simone Chavoor is here to discuss whether it's worth your time! Around The Dial takes us through Married At First Sight, Julia, Under The Banner Of Heaven, Magnum P.I. (the original), The Lincoln Lawyer, and Prehistoric Planet. Simone pitches us "Apéritif," the series premiere of Hannibal, for induction into The Canon. Then we name the week's Winner and Loser and close out with a Game Time that's fun for at least two closely-related members of the family. Some maniac got the idea to throw a bunch of British adults (and one Irish adult) into a fake American high school set and make them date each other in the manner of teen movie characters; some other maniacs decided to discuss this brand-new offering from Amazon Prime Video on this podcast, and we've brought back Brandi Brown to join us! Around The Dial takes us through Hacks, New Scandinavian Cooking, and Naked City. Tara pitches the Shrill episode "WAHAM" for induction into the Canon. Then after naming the week's Winner and Loser, it's on to a Game Time that will have you under its spell.
