Bryson Gillette founder and president Bill Burton and VP Emily Schwartz, who backed Haugen with comms support, join the PRovoke Media Podcast to discuss the role of comms in Haugen's success — how that success confirms the value of PR.
In this episode, Laura discusses love, happiness, and masculine/feminine relationship dynamics with Stuart and Francis, who recently became fathers through surrogacy. The two men have always been big advocates for women´s health and wellness and are delighted to be working with a brand like Lola&Lykke that endorses and supports parenting in all its different formats. Stuart and Francis candidly speak about their experiences and agree that having more feminine energy as gay men may make it easier to navigate parenting, business, and life in general. Laura draws attention to Stuart´s post: ´I am creating the life of my dreams´ and compliments the two men of setting an incredibly positive example and living their ideal life, which has been made possible through digitalisation and the acceptance of difference in general. Today, we wanted to bring you portions of a conversation that Matt Robison had on the Healthier Tech Podcast with host R Blank. Some of you may recognize that name from my previous conversation with him in which we talked about the science behind electromagnetic radiation and some of the effects that that type of radiation -- which comes from everything in the world around us that runs on electricity -- has on our bodies, our brains, and our health. There is some pretty compelling science that suggests it's a problem. There are direct effects that are measurable in the cells inside our body, and there's a lot more research that's needed on the association with various diseases. So what can we do to get government to take this on? The show is also about other intersections between our health and technology. That includes mental health and social health, the kinds of issues that have been raised by the Facebook whistleblower Francis Haugen, and some of the documents that she's brought to light about research that Facebook has done about the impact of social media, particularly on teenagers, and most particularly on young women. We also consider some of the other social effects that we've seen in terms of misinformation. The question is the same: how can we get government to address technology that is harming us?

Compliance into the Weeds is the only weekly podcast which takes a deep dive into a compliance related topic, literally going into the weeds to more fully explore a subject. This week, Matt and Tom conclude a special two-part podcast series of several topics they will be following in 2022. Today in our concluding Part 2, we consider: · The time of reckoning is coming for SPACs funded in 2021 as their 18 month-deadline is fast approaching. Is the SEC looking at SPACs as an alternative form of IPO? What will the regulatory landscape look like going forward? · CCO pay. Will it go up after several years of remaining flat? How did the Great Resignation impact compliance, if at all? What skills sets might a CCO need into 2025 and beyond? · The SEC investigation into Facebook. Are a company's public statements about having an ethical culture mere puffery or are they actionable for failing to live up to their public statements. Also, what does the Francis Haugen testimony mean for whistleblowers going forward. · The SEC investigation into Activision's toxic workplace and culture of misogyny. Are these new areas the SEC will be looking at in addition to its traditional role of financial reporting watchdog. Resources Matt in Radical Compliance Learn more about your ad choices.
In early October, a former Facebook employee turned whistleblower. Francis Haugen went public with accusations and internal documents collected during her time of employment. She said that the social media giant had been prioritizing profits over user safety and security. As soon as the formula of screens plus commercialization, plus youth began to reveal itself. I knew who I needed to talk to: Jean Rogers is the Director of the Children's Screen Time Action Network. In this episode Jean translates the data exposed by the Facebook Files and gives us some tips on how to keep our children safe online.
Facebook has had its share of problems over the years, from privacy issues to data leaks to fake news. Now, internal documents made public by former Facebook employee Francis Haugen show that these problems may have been more systematic. They suggest that Facebook may have been aware of the problems that it was causing while doing little about it. Reporting on these internal documents, the New York Times said that in India, Facebook was facing an amplified version of its problems with misinformation and hate speech but allocated very little resources to deal with it. So what are the wider issues that these papers raise? What is the answer to the problems that Facebook causes, considering the outsize influence it has? We discuss these and more in this episode. Guest: Mishi Choudhary, founder and Legal director of the Software Freedom Law Centre Host: P.J. George
More than 100 nations attending the Cop26 summit in Glasgow have signed up to a deforestation pledge. We hear from U.S. climate envoy John Kerry who says negotiations so far have been ‘encouraging'. India's Prime Minister has made one of the first major commitments of the conference, vowing to take his country to net zero emissions by 2070. Meanwhile, we have quarterly results from Standard Chartered and BP and we are also live at the Web Summit in Lisbon where Facebook whistleblower Francis Haugen has called for CEO Mark Zuckerberg's resignation.
The internet was supposed to set the world free, lighting up the darkness with free access to information and knowledge. But instead we get fake news more often than real news, and hate speech instead of free speech. How did this come about? Is it simply human nature, or the nature of algorithms that run the show? Before you acquiesce to the just announced Facebook meta verse, join us as we delve into the dark algorithms that run our world. The Bill Kelly Show Podcast: Liberal Leader Steven Del Duca is promising major electoral reform — including ranked ballots for voting — if he unseats Progressive Conservative Doug Ford as premier next year. And Del Duca will tell Liberal delegates at the party's annual general meeting on Sunday that if he fails to deliver, he will “resign on the spot and give you back the power to choose someone else.” The Ontario Liberal party also proposed a pilot project for a 4 day work week if elected in 2022. What do we make of Steven Del Duca's campaign promises? GUEST: Muhammad Ali, Senior Consultant for Crestview Strategies - The Canadian Taxpayers Federation is calling on Ontario Premier Doug Ford to keep his election promise to lower gas prices, after releasing its 23rd annual Gas Tax Honesty Day Report which shows how much drivers pay in taxes at the pumps. “Ford promised voters that he would help make their lives more affordable by reducing the price of gas by 10 cents per litre, but so far the Premier has failed to fully deliver,” said Jay Goldberg, the CTF's Interim Ontario Director. “Gas tax relief is needed now more than ever to help taxpayers struggling with the Trudeau government's rising carbon tax costs.” GUEST: Jay Goldberg, Interim Ontario Director of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation - Do you often find yourself doomscrolling on Facebook, spending excessive amount of time on Instagram and watching TikTok videos for endless hours? You're not alone. As social media apps continue to consume everyday life, more and more users are re-evaluating their time on online platforms. And there is renewed pushback after a damning testimony earlier this month by a former Facebook employee, Francis Haugen, who says the company's products harm children and fuel polarization. In recent years, several high-profile celebrities have either temporarily deactivated their social media accounts or chosen to log off for good for a variety of reasons. Facebook disebut sengaja menggunakan algoritmanya untuk memanen konten perpecahan demi profit, melalui pengakuan pelapor (whistleblower) bernama Francis Haugen, mantan project manager raksasa teknologi itu. Apa kata Gedung Putih dan bagaimana reaksi Facebook?
Scott speaks with Karen Hao the senior Artificial Intelligence editor for MIT Technology Review whose groundbreaking work looking into Facebook just got validated in a massive way this week by whistleblower Francis Haugen's testimony to the U.S. Senate. Hao holds a mechanical engineering degree from MIT, which she took to outlets like Mother Jones and Quartz where she honed her craft as a data journalist before earning her current senior role and recently becoming a Knight Science Journalism Fellow. Her groundbreaking reporting spans from the murky world of Facebook's reliance on artificial intelligence to create programs that make autonomous decisions about what people see and human networks that convert disinformation for hire into cold hard cash. Buzzfeed caught and exposed the Eastern European troll farms who polluted the 2016 election with pro-Trump disinformation, yet Karen reports that not only did Facebook allow people in those same countries to influence Americans with inauthentic content, but they paid them from the network's Instant Articles advertising platform.
ResourcesConsumer behavior changes following COVID-19TakeawaysFacebook in hot water Last week the Wall Street Journal released a powerful and damning series on Facebook's negative impact on society and repeated decisions to turn a blind eye. Former Facebook employee, Francis Haugen, identified herself as the whistleblower and soon after shared a congressional testimony.Following this debacle, the entire Facebook ecosystem, including Facebook, Instagram, Oculus, WhatsApp, and Messenger, went down for six hours with limited response from the company.Facebook, following these events, announced that it would be postponing the development of the app 'Instagram for Kids."The outage highlighted how powerful a marketing tool Facebook is and how reliant marketers and businesses are on the platform. The outage may be the catalyst marketers need to diversify their marketing mix and experiment with new channels outside the Facebook ecosystem.Life spheres … but smaller Last year we did a joint study with The Healthcare Association of New York State (HANYS) to reveal the long-term consumer behavior changes resulting from COVID-19. One of the changes listed in that was "smaller life spheres."COVID-19 abruptly forced the world to operate from home. From entertainment to education to work to social gatherings – we, as a society, operated from home. Even with fewer restrictions, consumers are now used to traveling shorter distances for goods and services. We call this the shrinking of life spheres — a phenomenon in which people have become accustomed to the convenience of at-home or nearby goods and services and continue to seek that convenience. The question has become: How far are you willing to travel for certain activities? Our team resurfaced this finding and shared new research that demonstrated the trend of smaller life spheres has continued into the present.Stats that support this finding: When it comes to driving, the number of miles the average American has traveled is down to 2007 levels. Air travel is still down 26% from pre-pandemic levels.People will think and act differently about how far they are willing to go. This trend is risky for health systems as retailers like Walgreens and CVS live within miles of every American consumer. Because these options are closer and more convenient, consumers may be more inclined to use them as an alternative. Not to mention CVS's recent announcement to transform hundreds of its retail stores into primary care outlets.Home healthcare is growing rapidly and is predicted to grow almost 8% more by 2028. From a business standpoint, many believe the home is the solution to high healthcare costs. The wheel of fortune Our team came prepared with three different topics to discuss and spun a wheel to select the topic they would talk about randomly. The three trends on the table included the great resignation, nostalgia marketing, and the rise of minimalism. For this episode, the rise of minimalism was selected. The standard definition of minimalism: The movement toward a sustainable self-aware lifestyle where people learn to spend less, save more, and have a less negative impact on earth and resources. While this definition applies to many cases, our team expressed that the motivator behind minimalism may vary. For example, millennials are known to rent items rather than purchase them (think Rent the Runway, Spotify, etc.). In many cases, this trend stems from a desire to reduce clutter. The team noted that they see this trend represented through brands like Apple through packaging Chick-fil-A through billboard design.
