Laura Gainor’s background in pickleball is significant, as she was around the sport in some of its earlier days before it became a national phenomenon. During her time in marketing at USA Pickleball, she witnessed first-hand how the sport was taking off. Today, of course, the numbers speak for themselves. In last year’s Topline Participation Report produced by the Sports & Fitness Industry Association, the group’s researchers reported that pickleball grew 58 percent in participation in the previous year. And over the past three years, that participation has grown by some 223 percent. As a result, brands are looking to get involved with the sport any way they can and event organizers are searching for ways to activate a pickleball experience around their events as well. And development is coming in, too. Entire communities around the country are being planned with pickleball courts in mind to allow people more access to play. Gainor saw the writing on the wall for all these trends and launched Pickleball in the Sun as a way to help brands, event organizers and others navigate the fast-evolving world of pickleball. In this conversation, we discuss how those brands look different today, what you should know about including pickleball as a component of your event, where the sport is going and what, if anything, may slow its momentum.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to: Review the most up-to-date evidence and mechanistic understanding supporting the use of current and emerging cancer immunotherapies, including single-agent and combination approaches, across a spectrum of different malignancies, Evaluate the latest evidence on the role and use of established, novel, and emerging cancer immunotherapy biomarkers (eg, PD-L1, MSI/MMR, TMB, TILs, LAG-3, composite biomarkers, et cetera), Integrate into practice up-to-date cancer immunotherapy biomarker testing approaches and immune-based therapies/combinations according to the latest evidence, recommendations, and principles of precision immuno-oncology.

Dr. Gainor from Mass General Hospital stops by to chat with Billy and Jenny about all the amazing things MGH is doing to help their patients battle cancer.
Ep. 199: Gabrielle Kazuko Nomura Gainor grew up immersed in Seattle’s arts and cultural scene since birth, and now works in administration for Seattle Opera, as an independent dance artist, and as an activist with the Japanese American Citizens League. She identifies as Asian American, and culturally, as Japanese American; while also fully owning and embracing being of Japanese, Filipino, Spanish and Irish American heritage. As a member of a mixed family, she is married to a white musician and they have a 1-year-old daughter Kiyomi (whom they assume identifies as female and as Mixed Race). Gabrielle’s most recent dance work, “Farewell Shikata ga nai” combines live theater, dance and taiko drumming to tell the story of how her family and community were forcibly removed and incarcerated during World War II. This piece will be touring local Seattle schools in May 2019. Gabrielle is in the very early phases of planning a conference for Mixed Race Asians with the Japanese American Citizens League, which will be focused on anti-racism work, community building, and sharing our mixed stories through art and performance. Gabrielle holds degrees in journalism and dance from Western Washington University. Elizabeth Warren Speaks With A Forked Tongue... Today's topics include: ...that may be the bottom line regarding Warren's claims to be part Native American. She finally had a DNA test done to show what her real heritage is - and let's just say based on the results, we all probably have just as much of a tie to Native American heritage as Warren does; next up, some football talk. Why there is no love lost with Le'Veon Bell. The Steelers, and James Conner especially, are doing just fine without Bell...; also, why is Hillary Clinton still doing interviews? She is out there still defending Bill, saying Monica Lewinsky was an "adult" at the time and Bill did not abuse his power as a President in that situation; and finally, Dan Gainor (Vice President of Business and Culture at the Media Research Center) joins the show to talk about a leaked document from Google, which shows the people at Google like the "European" version of "free speech" better. Gainor explains what this means, and why it's troubling. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Listen to the story here and see the accompanying photos at MAEKAN.com for the best experience. When the information age nostalgically looked back toward traditional craftsmanship for inspiration, we ended up with hand-stitched leather cases for our tablets and artisan wooden styluses to go with it. But for something we use literally every day, why haven’t we been handcrafting sneakers? This is just what bespoke luxury sneaker label No.One does, a dozen and a half pairs at a time. Good things take time, and founder Mark Gainor doesn’t seem to mind. Script and Narration by Nate Kan Audio by Elphick Wo Photos by Eugene --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/maekan/support
