The Unnamed Automotive Podcast tackles a pair of uncommon vehicles this week. The show starts with Benjamin's review of the 2025 Hyundai Santa Cruz XRT model, which emphasizes a more rugged and tough approach to compact trucking. Benjamin explains how it compares to the recently reviewed 2025 Ford Maverick, and whether Hyundai is capable of building a truck that works for North American needs. Then Sami chimes in with his review of the 2025 Nissan Ariya, which offers a lot of the same features and technologies found on other EVs on the market. Our hosts ask what makes the Ariya special in this segment, and struggle to come up with a definitive answer, despite Nissan's past leadership in the EV space. Thanks for listening!

Dr. Thomas Mumford, Vice President of Exploration at Scottie Resources (TSX.V:SCOT – OTCQB:SCTSF), joins me to review some results from the recent study on utilizing ore sorting, their research into pursuing a Direct-Shipping Ore (DSO) development strategy, the upcoming Maiden Resource Estimate, and an overall exploration review from 2024 and look ahead to the 2025 season at the Scottie Gold Mine Project, located in the Golden Triangle of British Columbia.   Thomas reviewed the advancements in ore sorting and how it paired well with their mineralization, with both XRF and XRT. This correlates well with the proposed DSO strategy, because of the ability to substantially increase grade while reducing the volume of material to be shipped and the resulting positive economic implications. Using XRF ore sorting technology, the operation will eliminate the need for a gold processing plant and tailings facility, thereby significantly reducing the capital required and resulting in a minimal environmental footprint.   When reviewing their direct-ship ore strategy, Thomas highlighted that Scottie has one of the closest gold projects to a deep-sea shipping terminal, which based on its location is positioned in one of North America's cheapest commercial shipping lanes to Asia. In addition to the ease of a proposed open-pit mine, which already has an existing mine permit, there is also key external infrastructure in place, such as power lines and hauling roads right to site.   Thomas then provides a solid recap of last year's exploration program and key drill targets and milestones at the Blueberry Contact Zone and Scottie Gold Mine area. This year's program will be working on doing some infill drilling to convert categories from inferred to measured and indicated, but also following up on the discovery of the new Wolf discovery, the C&D veins, and some other new targets.  All the prior years drill results are being compiled at present building towards a Maiden Resource Estimate that is targeted to be out to the market in a few weeks as the next key company milestone.   If you have any questions for Thomas regarding Scottie Resources, then please email them in to me at  Shad@kereport.com.   In full disclosure, Shad is a shareholder of Scottie Resources at the time of this recording, but may choose to buy or sell any stock at any point in time.   Click here to follow the latest news from Scottie Resources

From Mine to Mill: Exploring Innovative Technologies in Ore Sorting with Adrian Dance

In the episode, we chat with Adrian Dance, Principal Consultant at SRK Consulting, an independent and international multi-disciplined mining consultancy focused on providing advice and solutions to clients, mainly in the earth and water resource industries. They offer services from exploration to mine closure and are specialists and leaders in fields such as due diligence, technical studies, mine waste and water management, permitting, and mine rehabilitation. Adrian’s expertise is in metallurgy and mineral processing and he's worked for the likes of Mount Isa Mines, Highland Valley, and Bisha Mining before joining SRK back in 2010 and is going to be talking about technology in mineral processing, using XRT over traditional sorting methods, AI, SRK’s partnership with Base Metallurgical Labs and why grade engineering plays a critical role in resource extraction. KEY TAKEAWAYS The mining industry is slow to adopt new technologies, which can significantly improve efficiency and processing. Embracing advancements like X-ray transmissive sensing (XRT) and AI can lead to better decision-making and operational flexibility. Implementing pre-concentration techniques to reject waste material early in the processing stage can enhance the economics of mining operations. This approach allows for the removal of waste before it enters the processing plant, reducing costs and environmental impact. The concept of grade engineering emphasises the need to actively manage and improve the quality of ore being processed. By utilising various techniques, such as differential blasting and sorting, mining operations can optimise the value extracted from their resources. Future mining operations will require more flexible processing systems that can adapt to the variability of incoming material. This includes the ability to make real-time adjustments based on the characteristics of the ore being processed. There is a need for the mining industry to break down silos between different disciplines. By fostering collaboration and sharing knowledge, companies can improve overall efficiency and innovation in mining practices. BEST MOMENTS "What we really need to be considering now more than ever is improving the quality of the material coming in to really improve the economics." "We are losing expertise; we are not really getting a lot of traction of people coming to the industry." "If you take somebody outside of the mining industry and say, we're going to process 99.999% waste to get to that .001% valuable, someone would say, check your head." "The biggest thing we want to do is to avoid people from shooting themselves in the foot with this technology." While new circumstances might spell difficulties for the makers of electric vehicles, Hyundai is charging ahead with new variants of its popular Ioniq 5. Accompanying a 2025 model-year refresh, the newest of the variants is the Ioniq 5 XRT, an off-road take on the platform. It includes standard all-wheel-drive, increased ride height, all-terrain tires and tow hooks. To describe it for us we have Mike Evanoff, a senior product planner and expert on the vehicle. Host Jack Nerad just caught up with him at a Hyundai-sponsored event in and around Palm Springs, California, and we have that interview for you. This week our road tests include thorough evaluations of the 2025 Polestar 3 battery-electric crossover and the 2025 Toyota Corolla FX. Guest Co-Host Matt DeLorenzo, author of How To Buy an Affordable Electric Car: A Tightwad's Guide to EV ownership, applied his special expertise to a review of the Polestar 3. Also in this episode, Host Jack Nerad describes his experiences during a week at the wheel of the new Corolla FX trim. In the news this week, Chevrolet has unveiled a startlingly new ultra-high performance prototype based loosely on a production EV. It might end up being a racecar in a series that would feature several similar EVs. We'll have the details. There's more tariff talk this week as the Trump Administration signals that it is looking at “reciprocal tariffs” on automobiles and other products. We can give some clarity on what has become an emotional issue. In light of changing regulations — and changing market conditions — Ford has decided to delay the launch of its next-generation F-150 pickup. And a troubled electric vehicle maker has entered into Chapter 11 bankruptcy. We'll tell you which one and what its future might hold coming up. Off-road vehicles are rolling off assembly lines in record numbers, and this week, we take long looks at two of the top new entrants in the high-stakes segment. The 2025 Hyundai Santa Fe XRT 2.5T AWD was a finalist in the North American Utility of the Year competition, and Host Jack Nerad took a long second look at it this week. Powered by a robust 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired with an eight-speed wet dual-clutch transmission, the XRT test vehicle had the looks of a genuine all-terrain vehicle. It also offers superior versatility. Its seven-passenger cabin includes flexible three-row seating and voluminous cargo space. On the tech front, it features dual 12.3-inch infotainment and driver information displays, Bluetooth hands-free technology, wireless phone charging capabilities, and an impressive array of advanced driver assistance systems. Potential buyers probably have several questions about the Santa Fe XRT: How is the third-row seating? Does the base engine have enough power? How does it perform on and off the road? We'll answer all of those and more soon. Our special guest, Toyota's Warren Chou, is the expert on the other all-terrain vehicle we are looking into this week. He is chief engineer of the all-new 2025 Toyota 4Runner. Jack Nerad sat down with him for a detailed discussion about the new SUV at a recent Toyota-sponsored event, and we're sure you'll be interested in what he has to say. We expect you will also be interested in what Guest Co-Host Matt DeLorenzo has to say about the 2025 Mazda CX-90 PHEV. A longtime auto expert and the author of How to Buy an Affordable Electric Car, Matt knows everything there is to know about plug-in vehicles. He will have a comprehensive report on the CX-90 plug-in hybrid for you. There is plenty of important news to chew on this week: • Potential new tariffs have the auto industry up in arms, but it might be a tempest in a teapot. • General Motors has reasserted its commitment to electrified vehicles, and it has announced new initiatives to incorporate EVs into consumers' homes. • The Scout brand is coming back but now it is engaged in a controversy with the state where it will build its vehicles about selling them there. • Stellantis, the parent company of Jeep, Dodge, Chrysler and Ram, is undergoing a major organizational change, and that could mean less expensive vehicles in your future. Listener Question of the Week “I heard a rumor that the government is planning to end the $7500 tax credit on electric vehicle purchases? Is that true? “White space” is hard to find in the U.S. car market, but Hyundai found a niche in 2021 when it introduced the Santa Cruz compact pickup truck. Now, four years down the road, the Santa Cruz remains a standout, blending a five-passenger crossover interior with the practicality of an open pickup truck bed. Designed for buyers seeking the utility of a truck without the bulk, it competes directly with the Ford Maverick, although the two small trucks differ markedly in persona. For 2025, the Santa Cruz features refreshed interiors, a sleek curved infotainment display, and a rugged XRT trim with all-terrain tires. Available in five trims ranging from the base SE to the luxurious Limited, which Host Jack Nerad tested for the week. With its 2.5-liter turbocharged engine, an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, and advanced safety systems, the likable little truck reminded Nerad of a sports sedan. BIO: Jack D. Schwager is a recognized industry expert on futures and hedge funds and the author of the iconic Market Wizards series, in which he interviewed about 70 trading legends of our time.STORY: Jack stayed too long in a position where his short was the strongest and his long the weakest, even though he knew this wasn't the way to invest.LEARNING: Never stay in a position that violates something that you believe in. In every position, know where you'll get out before you get in. “A mistake is not a trade that loses money. It's a trade where you did something that violated whatever your approach is that makes money over time.”Jack Schwager Guest profileJack D. Schwager is a recognized industry expert on futures and hedge funds and the author of the iconic Market Wizards series in which he interviewed about 70 trading legends of our time. His most recent work in the series is Unknown Market Wizards, published in November 2020. Previous books in the series include Market Wizards (1989), The New Market Wizards (1992), Stock Market Wizards (2001), Hedge Fund Market Wizards (2012), and The Little Book of Market Wizards (2014). His other books include the revised edition of A Complete Guide to the Futures Markets (2017). Market Sense and Nonsense (2013), Getting Started in Technical Analysis (1999), and the three-volume Schwager on Futures series (1995-96).Worst investment everIn late 2008, the world was falling apart. Jack believed that this economy would come back somewhat. So, Jack decided to buy ETF calls on China and the metals as far out as he could, assuming that the longer the time, the more likely they were to come back. He bought them deep out of the money, so they were pretty cheap.Several years later, Jack still had that position. Instead of just taking the profits, he hedged himself by selling the S&P Retail ETF (XRT) and the NASDAQ ETF. Jack put himself in a spread position where he was short NASDAQ and the retail index and long China. One day, China dropped 2%, and the XRT rose 2%. So Jack's long position went down 2%, and his short position went up 2%. So he got a 4% loss on position in a single day. Essentially, you want to be long the strongest and short the weakest. Jack's position was precisely the opposite. Instead of getting out of the position, he stayed, hoping it would return in a bit, but it didn't. Jack eventually got out but lost most of his profits.Lessons learnedEnsure your long position is the...

Last week was the Miller Lite 93XRT Opening Day celebration from our longtime home of YakZies, 3710 N Clark. And while XRT & YakZies enjoy a familial relationship of about 30 years, yesterday was different. We missed the biggest baseball and rock n' roll fan out there, our collective best friend in the whole world, Lin Brehmer. Before the Cubs honored Lin with a Wrigley Field scoreboard tribute, The Regular Guy did, from the same humble stage that we gather at year after year to lay down our long burden of winter as we look ahead to a season of infinite possibility. ...some of the things we cover in a podcast even surprise us! Where can you get a podcast that talks about spit roasts, strippers, stonks, and our mate Ste? Just here with Sam and Col on 'The Great Escape Podcast' that's where! ;) You would be let off this week to think you've been transported back to January 2021 and been re-subjected to all the #CrimeAndLies we experienced then! We saw the hedgies back to their A-Game this week, creating an artificial stock halt, and then creating a boatload of synthetic borrows out of XRT to tank the price! Guess what? We don't care, we aren't selling but it's costing them billions to keep us under wraps! Morons! On this week's cast: Halt! Who goes there? Crime and Lies, Phony Balony Dicta Phoney! Ter-mayo-nater, There's something about memey! Elvis Lives! I'm your Daddy, Gary GenSlur, Red Lion rocketman, Growing Paynes, Amster-dont-give-a-dam, Meme the merciless, Darkpool Dip, X-RaTed, Not so Grande! Bye buy button and much much more! If you're in it, you're on it! As per the cast, if you have anything to share, be it DD or just a nice comment then please do contact us and let us know! It's highly likely you will make the cast the following week! Love you all! Thanks for listening! Remember to like, share, and subscribe folks! It really does help the cast reach other Apes and provide support knowing there are others out there who feel and think the way they do!
