I'm so excited to welcome back my dear friend and returning guest, Susan Guthrie, a leading family law attorney and mediator, for a robust conversation about the family court system. While family court often gets a bad rap (and yes, it needs reform), Susan and I dig into why it's not always terrible. There is good that can come from it too. Together, we're breaking down what you can expect if you navigate the family court process, how to prepare for it, and how to make decisions that truly serve you and your kids. We're also diving into the hot topic of no-fault divorce laws: Could they be repealed? And what would that mean for families going forward? What You'll Hear: Why family court is necessary and not always the “necessary evil” it's made out to be (7:09) What most people can expect from the family court system (12:50) How to prepare for your day in court, including what serves you and what doesn't (17:25) The likelihood of no-fault divorce laws being repealed and the potential implications (34:13) Learn more about Susan Guthrie: Susan Guthrie has been one of the leading family law attorneys and mediators in the country for more than 30 years and a world-wide expert in online mediation and she has trained over 20,000 professionals in the ethical and practical considerations in transitioning to a virtual practice. Susan Guthrie welcomes Karis Nafte, Pet Custody Mediator and Certified Dog Behavior Consultant, to explore the complexities of pet custody in divorce. With the legal landscape around pets evolving, the topic of pet custody has become increasingly relevant for divorcing couples. Karis, founder of Who Keeps the Dog?, sheds light on the unique challenges of navigating custody for your furry family members and shares insights from her new book, Who Keeps the Dog: Navigating Pet Custody During Divorce. In this conversation, Karis explains how divorce can impact your beloved pets and provides practical strategies to ensure their well-being throughout the process. What You'll Hear: Why pets are no longer treated as mere property in divorce How the changing legal landscape impacts pet custody decisions Key considerations for creating a pet custody agreement Tips for minimizing stress for your pets during separation Golden Nuggets: “ You can't make the decision on the dog's future based on your hurt feelings or your negative emotions. You're not considering your dog. You're not seeing the situation through their eyes. And that's really hard, but you can do it. The most correct decision for the dog is there, if you dig for it.” “ Your dog will be fine. Dogs are so much more adaptable than we think they are. Don't imagine that your dog will be as upset as you are. I know that's hard to hear. It's harder for us than it is for dogs.” “ How do we look after our pets during divorce where we're really focusing on what's best for the dog? It's hard to do that when emotions do what they do in divorce.” **************************************** About this week's special guest: Karis Nafte Karis Nafte is the founder of Who Keeps the Dog, Pet Custody Mediation. Asymmetry, in a nutshell, is about balance...instead of matching. In previous eras, impressive home design showed its classiness with repeating, matching elements along a central line. These elements feel formal, weighty and grand.   The mid-century aesthetic challenged this formality. Mid-century design is about being off-center and less structured, but still balanced. In Today's Episode You'll Hear:Why asymmetry is a cornerstone of mid mod design. How balance can be more inviting than uniformity. Where symmetry makes sense. Get the full show notes with all the trimmings at https://www.midmod-midwest.com/1501

If you've ever thought that you might need to use some sort of short-lived gimmicks to position yourself, then you'll love this episode. Welcome to episode 213 of the HerBusiness podcast. In this episode of the HerBusiness podcast, CEO Suzi Dafnis speaks with Belinda Weaver of Copywrite Matters on the topic of standing out in a crowded market. Belinda is a copy coach who helps aspiring and working copywriters create a successful business they love. According to Belinda, the idea of being unique has been a traditional marketing concept that has been around for a long time, but with a global landscape and crowded markets, it can be hard to differentiate oneself and become truly unique. The problem with being unique is that it can be demoralising, and some business owners turn to short-lived gimmicks to try to stand out. However, when it comes to choosing a service provider, clients don't want a lot of choices, they want to know that their problem can be solved and that it has been solved for others. As buyers search for options, they create a shortlist of options that meet their criteria, and when business owners market to those areas, they become a chooseable option. Listen to This Episode to Hear: -> Why you should stop trying so hard to be unique, and what to do instead to stand out and be seen -> How to use the “5 Ps of Being Choosable” (purpose, passion, process, proof and personality) to be your clients' top choice. -> Ways to showcase your purpose and value and passion give you the ‘cut through' to be the first choice. -> How to interject your personality into your marketing without being too personal. -> Powerful ways to create ‘velcro hooks' and ‘fingerprints' that reinforce the value you bring and lead clients to your door. -> And so much more You'll love this fresh perspective on the idea of being unique in business and the actionable steps that business owners can take to stand out in a crowded market.
