Send us a textIn this powerful interview, Ines shares how she transformed from a constantly triggered, yelling mom to creating a peaceful home in just four months. As a working mom managing solo parenting during the week, Ines found herself screaming at her six-year-old son, her partner, and even colleagues at work. Despite trying mental load coaching, parenting books, and even inner child workbooks, nothing seemed to create lasting change. The breakthrough? Discovering that her uncontrollable reactions weren't about her son's behavior at all, but about wounds from her own childhood - where she was the "responsible" middle child, never allowed to play, and never told she was loved unconditionally. In this raw, honest conversation, Ines reveals:The specific situations that used to trigger her worst mommy tantrumsHow she went from dreading bedtime to creating a peaceful routineThe shocking moment her own mother said "I love you too" for the first timeHow healing her triggers saved her relationship with her partnerIf you've tried everything to stop yelling at your kids but nothing has worked, this episode reveals why - and shows how healing your own childhood wounds can transform not just your parenting, but every relationship in your life. The ripple effect of this healing extends to three generations - proving it's never too late to break generational patterns.Support the showPrefer watching this podcast on video? We spend so much time focusing on nutrition, strength training, and bone health as we age—but what about our brain? How can we build mental resilience and protect our brain health starting now?In this new Feisty series, co-hosted by Sara Gross and Dr. Erin Ayala, we're diving into the intersection of brain health, stress, and performance. In this first episode, Dr. Erin Ayala, a Licensed Psychologist and Certified Mental Performance Consultant, sits down with Jill Colangelo, a researcher at the University of Bern specializing in Sports Psychiatry. Jill works with athletes and teams on critical topics like endocrine health, hypothalamic amenorrhea, stress, overtraining syndrome, and athletic identity.Together, Erin and Jill explore the real impact of stress—both short-term and long-term—on the brain and body. While stress itself isn't the enemy, chronic stress without proper recovery can lead to brain fog, fatigue, hormonal imbalances, and metabolic issues. In this episode, they break down:Common stressors for women, including underfueling, toxic productivity, and the relentless push to do morePractical strategies for managing stress and setting boundaries for mental and physical well-beingWhy recovery should be a non-negotiable part of your training routineThe truth about cortisol—friend or foe?Which recovery trends (cold plunges, sauna, acupuncture) actually workAs active women, we often use movement as a way to relieve stress—but when does “more” become too much? This conversation is a call to action to reassess your relationship with stress, challenge the culture of overtraining, and develop a mindset that values mental resilience as much as physical strength. To learn more about the Brain Power Course click here! Tara VanDerveer has more wins than any other coach in NCAA basketball history. But as she says, motivating and leading teams isn't about barking orders. Communication, she says, “It starts, number one, with listening.”For VanDerveer, leadership isn't about a power dynamic, but a collaboration between her and her team. “I can't do it by myself and they can't do it by themselves. But as a team, we can,” she says. From seeking opinions from her assistant coaches to connecting with players about life outside the gym, VanDerveer recognizes that championships are won through communication. “The relationships that you have with your players, the communication that you have with them, will determine your success as a coach,” she says.In this episode of Think Fast, Talk Smart, VanDerveer and host Matt Abrahams explore more communication insights from on and off the court — being clear and concise, giving praise and positive feedback, and letting go of perfectionism.Episode Reference Links:Stanford Cardinal Profile: Website Ep.102 Create Presence: How to Communicate in a Way Others Can Feel Website / YouTube Ep.35 Leading From The Hot Seat: How To Communicate Under Pressure Website / YouTube Connect:Email Questions & Feedback >>> thinkfast@stanford.eduEpisode Transcripts >>> Think Fast Talk Smart WebsiteNewsletter Signup + English Language Learning >>> FasterSmarter.ioThink Fast Talk Smart >>> LinkedIn Page, Instagram, YouTubeMatt Abrahams >>> LinkedInStanford GSB >>> LinkedIn & TwitterChapters:(00:00:00) IntroductionHost Matt Abrahams introduces guest Tara VanDerveer, former Stanford University basketball coach.(00:00:59) Building Trust and OpennessFostering an environment where players feel comfortable being challenged and pushing themselves.(00:01:52) Communicating Under PressureStrategies for speaking clearly and concisely during crucial moments in games.(00:05:24) Motivation and FocusMotivating a team during challenging times and keeping them focused after successes.(00:07:26) The Value of RoutineThe value and impact of routines in practice and performance.(00:09:01) Positive Feedback and PraiseBalancing constructive criticism with positive feedback to foster player growth.(00:10:46) Taking RisksInsights on taking risks in career and coaching strategies.(00:12:56) Dual Role of CoachingThe dual role of a coach in ensuring both athletic and personal growth for players.(00:14:11) Handling Turnover and OnboardingManaging player turnover and integrating new team members.(00:16:39) Managing EmotionsTechniques for staying calm and focused during high-emotion situations.(00:17:55) Handling Mistakes and Staying PositiveMethods for helping players move past mistakes and stay focused.(00:19:35) Equity in SportsAddressing and advocating for equity between women's and men's sports.(00:21:21) Final Three QuestionsTara shares how to accept praise, two communicators she admires, and her recipe for successful communication.(00:26:30) ConclusionSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Patients have been asking my opinion on acupressure mats for years. I finally got tired of saying, “I don't really know,” so I decided to try one out for myself. If you don't know what an acupressure mat is…picture a thin rectangular mat, like the kind you used to lie on at nap time in kindergarten, and it's covered with rows of plastic circles, each about the size of a quarter, and each plastic circle has several short plastic spikes sticking out of it, and you lie on it. It's like a plastic bed of nails. So I bought an acupressure mat, and then I thought…why stop with mats? So then I bought a whole bunch of other acupressure tools and asked my coworkers to test them out and report back. And that's what we're diving into in this episode—how these tools work, and why you might want to use them for yourself. You'll learn:The fascinating history of the acupressure mat, and how I've incorporated mine into my daily self-care routineThe principles of acupuncture meridian and point therapeutics that support the use of acupressure matsUses for other acupressure tools such as rings and rollers (including special guest appearances from two of my coworkers, Ali and Sandra!)I'll be honest…I went into this little acupressure mat experiment a bit skeptical. I've seen some pretty grandiose claims on social media. I don't think acupressure is a cure-all, but I've been pleasantly surprised by how much I've come to love my acupressure mat. Acupressure is a safe, easy, inexpensive, and effective form of self-care, so I hope this episode inspires you to try it out for yourself!Get in touch! “If you can rest your body, if you can rest your mind, sleep just happens. It's a side effect.” –Kali PatrickCan't sleep? It's the worst. Whether you can't fall asleep or stay asleep or get quality sleep, not sleeping impacts everything! Sleep is a hot topic in the FLOW365 community right now, and I know too many women who aren't getting enough sleep. That's why I'm so excited about this conversation with Kali Patrick, an adult sleep coach.Poor sleep affects movement, mood, and what we eat, so you really need to prioritize sleep when we are making time for your health. What does “good sleep” even mean? First, Kali says we need to look at our whole sleep experience, not one night. We often create bigger sleep problems by getting in our own head about one or two bad nights of sleep. The first step is actually having a sleep vision. “I need to sleep better” isn't going to motivate you. You need to ask yourself: What's important about getting better sleep? We talk about: Setting sleep goals — and knowing how to support yourself to get there with doable changesGiving yourself enough sleep opportunity and setting boundaries with yourself and others to promote good sleepHow to deal with middle of the night wakingSimplifying your bedtime routineThe difference between recreation, rest, and sleep … and how it affects what you do before bedHave a sleep rhythm and understanding that you can get back to if you choose or end up out of it for a nightABOUT KALIKali Patrick is an adult sleep coach and #1 bestselling author of Mastering Your Sleep Puzzle: Your 12-Week Guide to Sleeping Better. She helps stressed-out tired people reclaim their sleep, energy, & enthusiasm for life. Kali blends her training as a nationally-board certified health & wellness coach and therapeutically-trained yoga teacher into a practical and flexible approach to help busy people improve their sleep long term.Kali's personal experience with both insomnia & burnout add a different dimension to her approach and make her a leading—though often contrarian—sleep expert. Kali believes that everyone has the ability to sleep naturally without any of the products, pills, potions, & gadgets marketed by the $65 billion sleep aid industry*.Learn more about Kali and her programs at KaliPatrick.com.LINKSFree 30-min Clarity Call (required entry to 1-1 coaching)Course: The Sleep AcademyBook: Mastering Your Sleep Puzzle: Your 12-Week Guide to Sleeping Better Freebie: Lifestyle Habits Wrecking Your Sleep (sample book chapter)Twitter:...

Do you struggle to accept the process of aging? What are the physical and mental impacts of midlife?MEET Lisa MustardWhen I turned 40, I had a wake-up call. Some were busts, while others were successes!Along the way though, I have learned incredible lessons:First, when I work in alignment with my highest values and priorities, work is effortless and fun.Second, is that failing at something isn't a death sentence. Show NotesToday's Discussion Points:1.) In-season Training - the WhyIt's possible now to play the same sport year round and in-season training is almost year roundDo you value playing more games or value improving and recovering physically?“You won't have to GET ready if you always STAY ready.”You will atrophy during the season, you give up strength and muscle to play the game. But the goal should be to atrophy the least amount possible, and less than your competitor. It's not just missing lifts, it's the increase in stress, pressure, travel, nutrition on the run, and lack of a routineThe team with their best players playing at the end of the year has the best chance of winning in the postseason2.) The HowIf you stay consistent (x2 week in season) and select the right exercises and intensity you don't need to worry about getting sore or jeopardizing performanceSoft tissue work, stretch, short warm up, lift a few heavy things, do some single leg and core stuff, go home (30-45 minute workouts)Drop the volume and duration, keep the intensity highMinimal Effective Dose! My guest this week is the author of the Sky Fall series of books, Joseph Bendoski. Joseph's background is in screenwriting which he eventually left behind as he found the conventions of that particular genre too restrictive. When he switched to writing novels, he found it a more freeing format. He was initially undecided whether to write fiction or non-fiction. He made his decision after looking at the book sales for Malcolm Gladwell and George R. R. Martin of Game of Thrones. George R.R. Martin had sold over 80 million books, whereas Malcolm Gladwell's sales were around 8 or 9 million. Joseph's key takeaway from that was that if you want to write a story that readers will read and enjoy, perhaps fiction is the way to go. In this episode, we also chat about marketing strategies and insights for getting your writing in front of more people. In this episode we discuss:The restrictions that come with script writingHow scriptwriting informed Joseph's novel writingThe decision behind writing a seriesUsing online advertising including Facebook AdsJoseph's writing routineThe steps prior to publicationResources:Joseph Bendoski on AmazonThe Art of Dramatic Writing - Lajos Egri12 Shots: 12 Crimes…12. The top achievers in the mortgage world are those with successful teams behind them. We have to make sure we’re bringing the right energy into our interactions with our teams if we want to see great results. Our energy makes all the difference; the way we speak to others and how we make them feel can make or break our success. How can we make sure we bring positive energy into our interactions with team members? Is it possible to create an uplifting atmosphere in our companies when we inevitably have an ‘off’ day? In this episode, I continue my discussion with President of American Financial Resources, Laura Brandao. Together, we discuss how to cultivate a positive atmosphere on our teams. As leaders, we have clients and team members relying on us. We can’t have an ‘off’ day. We have an obligation to get ourselves in check. -Laura Brandao Three Things You’ll Learn In This Episode Create a routineThe key to success lies in a great routine. Get into the habit of going to bed and waking up at the same time everyday. We could even consider fueling our bodies with similar fuels everyday; this way, we don’t run the risk of low energy levels. Start the day on a high noteReaching out to our team members every morning is a great way to ensure everyone starts the day on a positive note. This doesn’t even need to be affected by COVID-19; just sending a video out to our teams everyday can boost everyone’s energies. Feed the mindAs human beings, we all have days when we feel slightly ‘off,’ but we don’t have to let this stop us from a successful day. We have to learn what gets our energy levels back up. This could be a podcast some mornings, or even music in the background. Get in tune with what feeds our minds. Guest Bio: Laura Brandao is a skilled mortgage industry executive with more than two decades of experience. She is the Founder of Say Yes to Everyday and President of American Financial Resources, and is the driving force that catapulted AFR to the top of manufactured home, one-time close, and renovation lending in the U.S. Laura was named one of the 10 most influential business women to watch in 2020 by Insights Success Magazine, and is the host of the Positively Charged Biz podcast. She is a sought-after speaker for industry events and heralded as a champion for brokers, builders and other partners. She is known for sharing her infectious passion for independent mortgage experts and bringing more families home. Laura worked with the Department of Veterans Affairs to expand the guidelines on their VA Renovation Program, designed to help the men and women who serve our country repair or upgrade their home with low rates. Given that this season is all about organisation, I would be neglecting my duties desperately if I didn't focus an episode on morning routines!Having a solid morning routine is one of the most critical building blocks of being in the driving seat of our lives - and when my routine is out of whack, it has a huge impact on my days and weeks.I have talked a LOT about the importance of morning routines on Instagram, in online trainings I run, podcast chats… and most of all in my books. So for this week's episode I decided to take a different approach… Especially as the book chapter episode I did last season was so popular!I'm going to read to you my chapter on morning routines from my second book, Get Remarkably Organised. At one point, I jump into a section of Baby, You're Remarkable (my third book) to address the specific challenge that is making a morning routine happen with small humans in the household. In this episode I cover:The biggest reason a morning routine is so criticalThe three elements that every morning routine should haveThe concept of the Miracle Morning - the how, what, whyHow to make a morning routine happen with kidsThe blow-by-blow account of my own current morning routineThe tools I use as part of my routineThank you again to Rosie at My Virtual Stylist for being part of this episode, and for supporting her charity of choice, Run DIPG. My guest today is Kristen Holmes, Vice President of Performance at WHOOP. As you know, whoop is a sponsor of the show, but that's not why Kristen is here. I wanted to talk to an expert about sleep and actually understand much more about the analytics I've been getting from my whoop band, and I was so excited to talk to Kristin. I used to think that sleep was something you had to endure to be able to function, but I've learned that sleep is an amazing miracle process that makes you function at your best and regenerates and restores your body each and every night… If you let it.Kristen works with thousands of the best professional and NCAA athletes in the world. If your favorite athlete is having trouble sleeping, she’s the one they would call to help understand and interpret their data and figure out what to do about it. Kristen is also an amazing athlete and coach in her own right. She’s a former member of the U.S. National Field Hockey Team, as well as one of the most successful coaches in Ivy League history, having won 12 league titles in 13 seasons and the first national championship ever for Princeton University.Kristen and I are going to talk about: Why sleep is more important than nutrition, exercise, and anything else you could do to improve your lifeWhat are the different stages of sleep and how can you maximize the ones you needWhat is sleep hygiene and how to develop your routineThe 90 second habit you need to adopt to increase how quickly you get to sleep at nightHow to go back to sleep in the middle of the nightImportant Links for the Show:The ultimate fitness tracker optimizes your life: https://www.whoop.com/ and use code DIANA at checkout for 15% off!A bank that prides itself on how it treats both it's employees and it's customers: http://nbkc.com/diana - get a box of awesome Professional AF stuff for signing up, including a book that we discuss on the show!Get a better nights sleep with the Purple mattress. My guest today is Baratunde Thurston. Baratunde is a particularly hilarious comedian, he wrote the bestselling book How to be Black as well as many feature articles for places like Fast Company and Medium. He helped to re-launch the Daily Show with Trevor Noah through building the digital expansion team. And he used to write for the Onion and has been nominated for an Emmy award. This conversation is a little different in that we deep dive into a very specific work project of Baratunde’s and it was one that I witnessed a few months ago. It was the closing keynote of the TED 2018 conference. While the footage is not yet live, you can get a feel for what this looked like when he did the same thing at TED2015.To set the scene, the 2000 TED delegates had just experienced around 100 talks over the course of five days. Imagine the impact of watching just one TED talk and multiply that by 100. It’s an amazing and immersive experience and feels like you have been blasted by a fire hose with ideas. And the very last talk was Baratunde Thurston who summed up the entire conference experience - from the 100 or so talks to the snack foods to the parties - in 20 hilarious minutes. But here is the thing - Baratunde wrote this phenomenal presentation during TED. So while experiencing the five day event he also wrote his talk. And then he memorised it. And then he presented it. In front of the entire TED audience. It was one of the most mind-blowing performances I have seen in my life. So I reached out to Baratunde to speak to him about how we did this. We delve into:Preparation - and why its almost impossible to prepare for a performance like thisThe technology he used to record and collaborateHis physical / health routineThe different ways to structure a jokeUnpacking some of the jokes and how they came togetherHow he memorised a 20 minute talk in the space of a few hoursHow he manages nervesWe also cover a heap of other things, including:Baratunde’s quirky (but effective) email autoresponderBaratunde’s weekly reflection ritualHow he writes articlesWhy working on the Daily Show with Trevor Noah was the hardest job he has ever jobThe key question to ask your employer when accepting a new jobWhy he is so frustrated with the social media companiesFind more about Baratunde at www.baratunde.com, on Medium, on Facebook, and on Twitter.SMS Baratunde at +12029027949 (and use #howiwork).Visit www.amanthaimber.com/podcast for full show notes.Get in touch at amantha@inventium.com.au See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
