Eat too Much over the Holidays? If your experience was anything like mine, you were around lots of family and lots of food. Not to mention the beer, wine, and pie, ice cream, cookies, and more cocktails and snacks over football (in my family, we need the energy to root for the Detroit Lions year after hapless year and to distract us from the fact that they are the only winless team in the NFL).In these moments, it can be easy to find ourselves overeating and overdrinking. There's nothing to be ashamed of, and you shouldn't restrict what you eat on the days following. Here are some tips I share as a dietitian after a holiday full of eating and drinking.Take a walkYou're feeling insanely full and all you want to do is lay down, but taking a walk is much more beneficial. A 2018 randomized controlled trial found that doing some sort of physical activity around 30 minutes after eating can help blood glucose response. It doesn't have to be anything crazy either. Even a 10 minute, low-intensity walk or activity can help get post-meal blood glucose balanced.Stay hydratedIf you had one too many alcoholic beverages, make sure to follow that up with plenty of water. Alcohol is considered a diuretic, which means it makes your body remove fluids at a quicker rate. If you're not staying well hydrated, dehydration could be a culprit behind those dreaded hangover symptoms such as headache, dry mouth, and fatigue.Not to mention, drinking water can help with our metabolism and energy expenditure. One small study on 50 girls found that when they drink 2.5 cups of water 30 minutes before each meal (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) they had reductions in BMI and body composition after 8 weeks without making any dietary changes.All of these solutions will help your body start to flush out the toxins from overdoing it yesterday and that is a good thing. Because ginger has been shown to help your body flush out toxins make sure to add it to your detox shot. Lemon adds vitamin C which is helpful to your immune system. We add apple (juiced) and add a few slices of the apple since that adds natural fiber to the detox, and makes your gut feel full, and activates it to get things moving. Try this, and if you want to add some water, that makes it a little less thick. Mix one lemon, apple, and ginger with a pinch of pepper to signal to the body to "start your scrubbing:"The Apple Lemon Ginger Detox Drink:1 apple (juiced with a few slices left whole)1 lemon (peeled and juiced1 inch of raw ginger (peeled)pinch of cayenne pepper apple cider vinegar (optional)Juice the apple, lemon, and ginger then sprinkle the cayenne pepper on top. In this episode, we announce some exciting projects that we’re launching. We’ve listened to our community and have come up with new opportunities and services to better help your health journey. True Detox is part of the Microbes Formula family. Our goal is to increase our reach and the ways we are helping our community. We’ve been working with some amazing practitioners and will continue to do so but we’ve also seen that there is more work to be done.With that said, we’re in the midst of creating a coaching program from Microbe Formulas that will assist you on your personal journeys. The first one is a health coaching program that's going to be led by Dr. Jess. She is an amazing MD that is joining the family to help us build a health coaching program that works for you in a way that is absolutely unbelievable. Its focus is to help you through the challenges and struggles and changes that occur as you detox.Next is our life coaching program that is led by Sarah Fisk. Sometimes we get in our own way when we’re in the process of detoxing with Sarah’s help our aim is to keep you clear on your goals and overcome some of the challenges you may be facing. In this episode, we are excited to have Dr. Kayte Susse share her experience with breast implants and the detoxification process she went through after her breast implants were removed. Dr. Kayte is a functional health expert who works closely with patients to optimize their health. She specializes in supporting hormonal imbalance, nutrition, and epigenetics. The toxicity comes from a person holding onto these emotions or finding a negative outlet for expressing what they feel. In this episode, Dr. Jaban Moore helps us understand misdirected immune responses. He breaks down the relatively new diagnosis Pans/Panda; an immune reaction that creates inflammation in the brain.Dr. Moore talks about his personal experience with lyme disease and how it motivated him to research chronic illnesses and how it influenced his practice. His concentration with children started after he treated a child with autism who had clear cognitive improvements. Dr. Moore discusses a new diagnosis that impacts 1 in every 200 children that sometimes goes unnoticed. The Panda (Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal Infections) occurs when strep triggers a misdirected immune response and results in inflammation on a child’s brain. This causes personality changes such as anxiety, depression and OCD. PANS (Pediatric Acute-onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome) will result in the same cognitive reactions, but is triggered by environmental factors or other possible triggers.He discusses treatments available and success stories in this episode of True Detox.
