We're back for episode two of the season to gush over 1980's masterpiece The Shining, and we're not alone! Colby Day (Spaceman, In The Blink of an Eye, Happy Vacation) joins in as we nerd out over just how danged good this film is. We discuss the theories (ranging from plausible to full on conspiracy) that surround the film, Jack Torrance's contempt for his family from day one, and why Scott may have been a good Spanky.

The Katherine Massey Book Club @ The C.O.W.S. hosts the 6th and final study session on Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf's In The Blink of an Eye. Abdul-Rauf, formerly known as Chris Jackson, is a retired NBA player who became infamous for not participating in the national anthem during the 1996 season. Abdul-Rauf was quickly ejected from the league and all but forgotten. In fact, White journalists found as many of Abdul-Rauf's black co-workers as possible to have them criticize how he responded to White Supremacy/Racism. Gus hopes that by studying Abdul-Rauf's tribulations, non-white people will better understand the importance of resisting the urge to criticize other Victims of Racism. Last week, Abdul-Rauf described his deepening Muslim faith which included making the pilgrimage to Mecca. Moving away from the niggerization process, Abdul-Rauf read as much as he could. Unfortunately, he tried to share books and constructive information with his Denver Nuggets teammates. This and his pre-game prayers riled up White management even before the anthem controversy. His name change wasn't popular either. We concluded with Abdul-Rauf constructing his dream house for he and his wife in Kiln, Mississippi. This is NFL legend Brett Favre's hometown. The house was set a blaze, and no one seemed rushed to alert the black homeowners to the tragedy. #ShutUpAndDribble #IShowAmHungry #BallGames INVEST in The COWS – http://paypal.me/TheCOWS Cash App: https://cash.app/$TheCOWS CALL IN NUMBER: 605.313.5164 CODE 564943#
The Katherine Massey Book Club @ The C.O.W.S. hosts the 5th study session on Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf's In The Blink of an Eye. This very dynamic is being replicated currently with basketball player Kyrie Irving being widely admonished by many of his non-white colleagues. Gus hopes that by studying Abdul-Rauf's tribulations, non-white people will better understand the importance of resisting the urge to criticize other Victims of Racism. Last week, Abdul-Rauf described the process of leaving college to join the NBA. He remembers visiting his mother's dilapidated house with the empty refrigerator. Interestingly, once he joins the NBA, he gains a lot of weight - which Gus suspects could be compensation for being malnourished and starving for most of his early life. As opposed to chasing White Women and running the streets, Abdul-Rauf took care if his family, remained a disciplined Muslim, and worked on his basketball craft. He bought a house for his mother and made sure it was stuffed with book cases and food. #ShutUpAndDribble #IShowAmHungry INVEST in The COWS – http://paypal.me/TheCOWS Cash App: https://cash.app/$TheCOWS CALL IN NUMBER: 605.313.5164 CODE 564943#
The Katherine Massey Book Club @ The C.O.W.S. hosts the 4th study session on Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf's In The Blink of an Eye. Abdul-Rauf, formerly known as Chris Jackson, is a retired NBA player who became infamous for not participating in the national anthem during the 1996 season. Gus hopes that by studying Abdul-Rauf's tribulations, non-white people will better understand the importance of resisting the urge to criticize other Victims of Racism. Last week, Abdul-Rauf described his brilliant college basketball career. He scored buckets by the bushel and refused to take sass from a behemoth LSU freshman named Shaquille O'Neal. Importantly, Abdul-Rauf detailed how Shaq's father, the late Sergeant Philip Harrison, was heavily involved with his son's basketball development and talked the White coach often. This is in stark contrast to the "father hunger" we've heard about throughout this memoir. We also heard about an extraordinary episode where Abdul-Rauf attended a White Louisiana church, and a Suspected Racist child spoke in tongues while placing hands on the college hoops star. This and other questions led to his conversion to Islam. Apparently, Coach Dale Brown (Racist Suspect) gave his top black player a copy of Minister Malcolm X's autobiography, and this radically changed how Abdul-Rauf thought about, behaved around, and spoke to individuals classified as White. He also details his journey to completely eliminating his reliance on prescription medication to control Tourette Syndrome. #HankGathers #Hunger #TheCOWS13 INVEST in The COWS – http://paypal.me/TheCOWS Cash App: https://cash.app/$TheCOWS CALL IN NUMBER: 605.313.5164 CODE 564943#

He said these programs instilled a deep sense of hopelessness about the plight of black people - and both model namecalling other black people. Abdul-Rauf said sex was all around him. He talked about black children having sex at age 12 and 13 and young children being raped by their teacher (including female teachers raping black boys). It took his high school basketball coach's White wife to recommend that a doctor evaluate Abdul-Rauf (Chris Jackson) for Tourette Syndrome. During our premier study session, hunger was the theme. Abdul-Rauf talked about his father hunger because he had no idea who is dad is. He writes about growing up in Mississippi and starving all the time. He thankfully took advantage of the many fruit and nut trees in the delta region, but we also heard about sugar water and coffee for dinner. Abdul-Rauf's black mother did not graduate high school and was likely illiterate. We heard about black people name-calling other black people and more details about attempted black parents having random sex partners (boyfriends) around their young offspring. Abdul-Rauf's mother beat him when he was young and shouted at him for being fidgety. It was not until he was 17 that he was diagnosed with Tourette syndrome. #ShutUpAndDribble #RacialShadowBoxing #TheCOWS13 INVEST in The COWS – http://paypal.me/TheCOWS Cash App: https://cash.app/$TheCOWS CALL IN NUMBER: 720.716.7300 CODE 564943#

If you had to name the innovations that have transformed human civilisation, you might suggest the printing press or the Internet, but the humble pair of spectacles has also revolutionised the way many of us experience the world. It's said that an astonishing three quarters of those in the US use glasses or contact lenses to correct their vision. And the World Health Organisation estimates that more than a billion people in low-and-middle income countries are living with sight problems that could be corrected by the right pair of specs. But how and when were glasses first invented? What impact have they had on societal development? And what are some of the ways we've stigmatised, or even elevated, people who wear them? Joining Rajan Datar to explore the history of spectacles are Travis Elborough, a historian of popular culture from the UK. He's recently published a book called Through The Looking Glasses: The Spectacular Life of Spectacles; Stefana Sabin, a German literary scholar and the author of In The Blink of an Eye – A Cultural History of Spectacles – which has just been translated into English; and Professor Kovin Naidoo, Senior Vice President in social impact at the French-based optics company, Essilor. He's also former CEO of the Brien Holden Vision Institute. He originally trained as an optometrist in his native South Africa. [Image: Hugh of Saint-Cher, 1351-1352.
