We break down issue 51: Resurrection of Evil from June 1981! There is a new super weapon being constructed called the Tarkin. Our heroes are sent to bring down this technological terror, and at the same time there is a plot within the Empire to kill Darth Vader! In the past, Marvel has tied-in Kenner action figures and playsets. Is that what they are doing here with the Scout Walker vehicle? Or was it because they wanted to feature the cool 2-legged walker seen in The Empire Strikes Back for 2 seconds. Today in Star Wars History Disney+ streams the episode, “Chapter 3: The Streets of Mos Espa” from The Book of Boba Fett which Guest stars Danny Trejo as the Rancor Keeper. (Does Danny Trejo make an appearance in this episode's Marvel comic?) In “The Streets of Mos Espa” the Hutt Twins come to Boba Fett's palace and offer their apologies for sending Black Krrsantan to kill him. This Book of Boba Fett episode also features the BEST Behind the scenes Easter Egg ever! During the speeder chase where the mods were pursuing the Mayor's majordomo, one of the mods crashes through a Ralph McQuarrie painting of Jabba's court from Return of the Jedi. #51 “RESURRECTION OF EVIL" Release Date: June 16, 1981 Writer: David Michelinie Artwork: Walt Simonson, Tom Palmer Cover Art: Walt Simonson General Rieekan receives word from Rebel spies that the Galactic Empire is constructing a new superweapon known as the Tarkin. Realizing the danger the new weapon poses, Rieekan sends for Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, Chewbacca, Lando C and the droids. Here is the second set from the band's performance at the Boston Music Hall on June 10, 1976. Samson always seemed like a favorite to break out in Boston, and revs things up for a fine 'Help>Slip>Frank' here. Nice harmonies here, and the Slipknot features some upfront work by Keith. Bobby does a fine 'Let It Grow', then we have a mid-set 'Friend of the Devil' - a bit more spacey than usual, but that leads into the highlight of the set, a 'Playin' In The Band' which leads into an excellent 'Space jam'. That eventually goes into 'Dancin' In The Streets' and the band closes out the set with a rocking 'U.S. Blues'. Grateful Dead Boston Music Hall Boston, MA 6/10/1976 - Thursday Two Samson & Delilah Help On The Way > Slipknot > Franklin's Tower Let It Grow Friend Of The Devil Playing In The Band > Dancin' In The Streets > U.S. Blues You can listen to this week's Deadpod here: http://traffic.libsyn.com/deadshow/deadpod061424.mp3 This space is geting Hot!
Dj Infamous brings forth the first artist of the year for the "In The Streets" Edition being 305's own Zoey Dollaz. Normally it's delivered in the mixtape form as done for many years. This is a collection of some of the dope records (in my view) coming from Zoey over the years. Titled "Unfinished Business" ....because he's one of the dope artists many overlooked and has a lot of unfinished business left in the music world.
"Birthdays, Breakouts, and Psychedelic Jams: The Legendary Grateful Dead Concert of '77"Today's show comes from February 26, 1977 at the Swing Auditorium. The show not only opens the fabulous '77 campaign and contains the first live versions of two of the truly great Dead tunes – Terrapin Station and Estimated Prophet – but it throws smoke and spits flames. The concert marked the debut of songs like "Terrapin Station" and "Estimated Prophet." Larry Mishkin delves into the significance of these songs in the Dead's repertoire, their musical and lyrical qualities, and the overall atmosphere of the concert. They also provide insights into the venue's history and its importance in rock and roll culture.Additionally, the conversation touches on other topics, such as the Fish concert series in Cancun, Mexico, and the significance of certain Grateful Dead songs like "The Wheel" and "Slipknot." Larry share personal anecdotes related to the music, including experiences at concerts and the culture surrounding marijuana use, inspired by a Commander Cody song. INTRO: Terrapin Station Track # 1 5:51 – 7:27 Garcia and Hunter Probably that point right where Deadheads think they've seen it all. The psychedelic rock, Pig's blues, Americana, Wake of the Flood, Mars Hotel and Blues For Allah. So if you had tickets for this show, you had no idea what you were in for, where the Dead were about to take you, a completely different direction, as close as the Dead would ever come to a rock-opera number. And there was no waiting, lights went out and . . . . . . . . . . . . . TURTLE MUSIC!! Clocking in just shy of 11 minutes, it's not quite the masterpiece it would become, but pretty amazing none the less. Nothing else existed at that time quite like it. But from the opening notes you know it is a winner, destined for greatness in the pantheon of great Dead tunes. One that you could hear every show and never grow tired of or bored with it. The title track from the album released on July 27, 1977, five months after this show. First studio album since they had returned to touring. Terrapin Station is the ninth studio album (fourteenth overall) by the Grateful Dead, It was the first Grateful Dead album on Arista Records The cover artwork was produced by Kelley/Mouse Studios, who had created several previous works for the band. Though a terrapin appears in the lyrics only as a place name, dancing terrapins feature prominently in the artwork and afterward became part of the large iconography associated with the Grateful Dead. The front cover image takes the idea of a "terrapin station" literally. The back cover features a stylized, one-eyed skull with a crossed bone, feathers and roses, in keeping with the imagery that had evolved around the Dead. This clip is the famous and beloved transition form Lady With A Fan into Terrapin Station, the first two parts of the seven part suite clocking in at 16:23. The other five parts are: Terrapin; Terrapin Transit; At A Siding; Terrapin Flyer and Refrain. The Grateful Dead only performed the Lady With A Fan and Terrapin Station. Dead and Co. have played the entire suite. Fun to hear, but not the same as if Jerry was playing it. Too bad he never did. Played 303 times First: This version right here that we just played for you Last: July 8, 1995 SHOW No. 1: Estimated Prophet Track #4 1:54 – 3;26 Bob and John Barlow "Estimated Prophet" was written in septuple time. Bobby's lyrics for the song (finished with writing partner John Barlow) examine a character's delusions of grandeur and California's propensity for false prophets. The song also quotes "Ezekiel Saw the Wheel".[13][14] Drummer Bill Kreutzmann said "It's a great song but when [Weir] brought it to us, something was off. It needed a groove. It was in quick4 but it didn't swing. Yet. For my homework that night, I combined two fast sevens and played half-time over it. The two sevens brought the time around to an even number – the phrasing is in two bars of seven, so technically the time signature is in. But that's getting technical. In layman's terms, 'Estimated Prophet' suddenly grooved." Released on Terrapin Station, this was its debut performance and it was well received. A fan favorite and regular part of the Band's playlist for the rest of their careers. 390 times total First: This is it right here. Last: June 28, 1995 at the Palace of Auburn Hills outside of Detroit SWING AUDITORIUM Built in 1949, the Swing Auditorium had a maximum capacity of around 10,000, but it probably sold out at only around 6000 for this Dead show. The venue's ascent into rock and roll fame began in 1962 when a man named Bob Lewis started promoting concerts there. In the ensuing decades, Lewis brought all the legends into the Swing, including Jimi Hendrix, Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, and, of course, the Grateful Dead. But what really solidified the Swing's place amongst the hallowed venues was the American debut of the Rolling Stones there in 1964. With a mere ten-song set, the Stones stoked the hall into a fervor. The band had to drop their instruments and run for the exits before the crowd rushed the stage. For their part, the Dead played the Swing only four times before it was razed after a small plane crashed into the building on September 11, 1981. SHOW No. 2: The Wheel Track #9 :30 – 2:09 Released on January 20, 1972 as the final track on side 2 of Jerry's firs solo album, “Garcia”. The psychedelic closer it exhibits Garcia's short-lived infatuation with pedal steel guitar. great to hear in concert, although relatively short in length. Almost always a second set song and, it is high energy and always a great way for the band to transition out of Space. Played 259 times First: June 3, 1976 at the Paramount Theater in Portland Oregon Last: May 25, 1995 at Memorial Stadium in Seattle SHOW No. 3: Slipknot Track #14 11:30 – 13:10 Released on Blues For Allah in 1975 Plays a key role in a key suite and is often overlooked. The bridge between Help On The Way and Franklin's Tower it often gets lost in the jam out of Help and then into Franklin's. But it is almost always there and always a great piece of improvisational music that rarely sounds exactly the same, except for the distinctive intro/outro. Similar to I Am Hydrogen in Phish's Mike's Groove run of songs Played 114 times (Help = 111 times; Franklin's = 222 times) First: October 20, 1974 at Winterland in San Francisco Last: June 22, 1995 at the Knickerbocker Arena in Albany, NY SHOW No. 4: Eyes Of The World Track #17 5:35 – 7:07 Released on Wake of the Flood on October 15, 1973 Many a Deadheads “secret” favorite tune. It's that good. Played fast, played slow, almost always in the second set and often times as a companion piece with Estimated Prophet, the coveted “Estimated Eyes” jam. In the first part of the 1980's second sets often opened with Scarlet>Fire Estimated>Eyes OR Help>Slip>Frank Estimated>Eyes Played 382 timesFirst: February 9, 1973 at Maples Pavilion at Stanford in Palo AltoLast: July 6, 1995 at Riverport Amphitheatre in Maryland Heights, MO, just outside of St. Louis OUTRO: Dancin' In The Streets Track #18 7:40 – 9:13 “Dancin' in the Streets" is a cover of Martha & the Vandellas' "Dancing in the Street" from the early days of the band, given a new arrangement that prominently features singer Donna Godchaux. For the studio version, a funk-influenced guitar figure was added to a four-on-the-floor disco beat and polished with a commercial production contemporary to the era. Released by the Dead as the second song on Terrapin Station. Played 131 timesFirst: July 3, 1966 at the Fillmore in San FranciscoLast: April 6, 1987 at Brendan Byrne Arena in New Jersey Dead would play this tune in spurts: 28 times in 1970 27 times in 1976 14 times in 1977 and 1978 A bit of a comeback in 1984 and 1985 – 6 times each year, b Once in 1987 Gone Mishkin Law, LLC500 Skokie Blvd.Suite 325Northbrook, IL 60062Cell: (847) 812-1298Office Direct: (847) 504-1480lmishkin@mishkin.law .Produced by PodConx Deadhead Cannabis Show - https://podconx.com/podcasts/deadhead-cannabis-showLarry Mishkin - https://podconx.com/guests/larry-mishkinRob Hunt - https://podconx.com/guests/rob-huntJay Blakesberg - https://podconx.com/guests/jay-blakesbergSound Designed by Jamie Humiston - https://www.linkedin.com/in/jamie-humiston-91718b1b3/Recorded on Squadcast

Think that a show from 56 years ago doesn't rock? If so I challenge you to listen to this week's Deadpod... from November 19, 1966 in San Francisco, this primal Dead will surely knock your socks off... Such amazing energy and emotion on display here. The boys are spreading their wings while still exploring the legacy of the blues in the midst of Beatle mania. There are many highlights here, but I have to call out 'Cream Puff War', and 'Dancin' In The Streets' (despite the tragic cut at the end) as virtuoso examples of primal Grateful Dead. The entire second set (what we have of it) is a testament to the power and presence of Pigpen. Enough said. Robin D.G. Kelley is a professor of American History at UCLA. His classic study Freedom Dreams: The Black Radical Imagination is about to be re-released in a 20th Anniversary Edition. The book looks at how, throughout Black history, movements against oppression have been inspired by (and produced) grand visions of alternate possibilities for what life could be. Kelley shows how radicals have, in circumstances of grinding oppression, managed to expand our minds as to what is possible. Kelley's book looks at communism, surrealism, Pan-Africanism, and even funk and jazz music, to show the colorful and marvelous dreams that have kept social movements alive. His book is invaluable for leftists, because it shows how in addition to our critiques of capitalism, racism, and patriarchy, we can present inspiring and creative new cultural practices. The revolution needs poetry, dance, and fiction, and Kelley shows us that movement activists have always been dreamers as well as doers. The Movement For Black Lives' "Vision for Black Lives" Agenda can be found here. More about the great Black Surrealist Ted Joans can be found here. Franklin Rosemont's book Dancin' In The Streets! Anarchists, IWWs, Surrealists, Situationists & Provos In The 1960s is another useful resource. The Times review of Kelley's Thelonious Monk can be found here.

Çigdem Çidam, Associate Professor of Political Science at Union College, has a new book titled In the Street: Democratic Action, Theatricality, and Political Friendship (Oxford UP, 2021) that examines political action by citizens, and how we interpret and discuss that action in context of political structures. The title In the Street is a reference to the seminal French poster from May of 1968 that read “beauty is in the street,” and was adapted by the demonstrators in Turkey decades later, providing one of the many examples of street politics that illustrate the discussion of activism throughout the book. Street politics has many forms, such as protests, demonstrations, and acts of civil disobedience. Often such actions are confined to the binary analysis of successes and failures, only examining how likely an action is to bring about change. The origins of this understanding stem from Jean-Jacques Rousseau's notion of popular sovereignty, rejection of theatricality, and the idealization of immediacy. Çidam argues that this Rousseauian framework dilutes the value of these actions, forcing them into a reductive duality and failing to acknowledge that movements can fail simply because of the class positions their members are forced to assume. Regardless of their failures, there is an inherent and aesthetic value to these political actions that can last beyond the actions themselves. Çidam's alternative framework, developed through dissecting the viewpoints of political theorists Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Antonio Negri, Jurgen Habermas, and Jacques Ranciere, redefines our understanding of the value of political action. In The Street: Democratic Action, Theatricality, and Political Friendship provides new perspectives and understandings of events like Occupy Wall Street, the Gezi uprising in Turkey, and the Black Lives Matter protests of 2020. Çidam explains that “intermediating practices” are opportunities for encounter and engagement among those who are involved in these street actions. This concept is applied to the ways that individuals might find unity with each other within these political actions. Through intermediating practices, individuals become “political friends,” an Aristotelian concept that builds a relationship of unity and equity between people despite their differences as a result of their shared experiences of political action. These concepts must lead us to the conclusion that the driving forces of political action—anger, rage, joy—cannot be reduced to the binary of either success or failure, as Rousseau would have it. In The Streets re-centers the on-the-ground efforts of individuals, focusing on these communal actions rather than their particular outcomes. Çidam concludes that while these moments of political friendship are fleeting, their transience does not denote failure because the rich and creative practices of political actors are naturally valuable. Tune in to hear about Çigdem Çidam's interpretations of Negri's, Habermas', and Ranciere's unique political conceptions, how a focus on political friendship in the Gezi protests of 2013 helped to formulate her theoretical lenses for this analysis, and how remembrance of these movements can help us struggle against the powers that be for the next historical moment. Emma R. Handschke assisted in the production of this podcast. Lilly J. Goren is a professor of political science at Carroll University in Waukesha, WI. Special Rebroadcast - Conversations in Ferguson In this rebroadcast, we revisit Episode 2, originally aired on Oct 28, 2014, covering the developments in Ferguson, MO, regarding the shootings of unarmed youths Michael Brown and Vonderrick Myers III. And featuring excerpts from Beverley's conversation with Tef Poe and Tory Russell of Ferguson, leaders of Hands Up United and the Organization of Black Struggle. Tuesday, August 15, 2017, 6pm Pacific
To celebrate the 101st episode of In The Streets, we air a special rebroadcast of the premiere episode. Today is August 8, the 3 year anniversary of the gunning down of Michael Brown, Jr. by a Ferguson police officer. That terrible injustice propelled me into launching this podcast in October 2014, and this is the episode that started it all.
Aries Clark, a Black 16 yr old was shot to death by police outside a homeless shelter in Marion, Arkansas on July 25. Ismael Lopez was killed in his home in Southaven, Mississippi by police officers serving an arrest warrant at the wrong address. Lopez had no active warrants. The cops' excuse: Oops, wrong house! And now, the coverup. Former Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio has been convicted of criminally disobeying a court order. In St. Louis, the murder trial of former city cop Jason Stockley, 36, begins this week. Stockley is charged with first degree murder in the shooting death of Anthony Lamar Smith in Dec 2011. Last week, the White House announced a ban on trans persons serving in the US military. And Jeff Session's Dept of Justice argues that the Civil Rights Act of 1964 does not protect "homosexuals". The Suffolk County (NY) Police department has been under federal oversight by the US Dept of Justice since 2013 due to allegations of racial profiling and discrimination against Latinos and immigrants. That didn't stop them from clapping and cheering when the POTUS gave a speech, encouraging them to commit more frequent acts of brutality. The NYPD publicly responded by criticizing Trump and the officers who cheered. The Texas Senate effortlessly passed Senate Bill 3, the "Bathroom Bill". All the Republican senators, plus one Democrat, voted YES. It now goes to the state House. Alaska cops defend their "right" to have sexual contact with sex workers prior to arresting them for prostitution. Tues, August 1, 2017, 6pm Pacific.
Justine Damond is "the most innocent victim" of a police shooting that her lawyer has ever seen. This quote comes from an attorney who worked with Philando Castile's family to get justice for Mr. Castile. Justine Damond was an innocent victim. No one disputes that. But what of all the other innocent victims? What makes Justine the "most innocent" among of group of innocent victims of police brutality? How is it that she is more innocent than Tamir Rice who was playing with a toy gun on a playground in an "open carry" state? Or Aiyana Stanley-Jones, a small child who was asleep on a couch in her own home?. Or John Crawford III who was examining a BB gun for sale in the fake gun aisle at Walmart? Or Akai Gurley, the man that NYC Police chief Bill Bratton dubbed "a completely innocent man" who stepped out of his apartment, only to be shot (by accident) by a rookie cop? Why are they less innocent than Ms. Damond? Where is the "Blue Lives Matter" crowd? They always rush to the defense of the officer when the dead person is Black. Why has the media erupted into self-righteous contempt for the Black Muslim officer who shot Justine Damond? They usally dig up any information that might help the officer. But in this case, they turned against the officer..They demand that this "killer cop" be brought to justice. *Now* they want police accountability. But the media and many Americans seem completely at peace whenever an innocent African American or Native American is gunned down curbside. The media sheds no tears for any innocent Black victim, not even 7 year old Aiyana Jones. They ask no questions when the courts repeatedly affirm that Black victims' lives do not count. The media and many white Americans remain unbothered when innocent Black blood is shed. But for Justine Damond, justice WILL be served. Believe it! Tues, July 25, 2017. 6 pm PT
The nation is upset that an unarned white Australian woman, Justine Damond, was shot to death after calling 911 for help. The officer who shot her is a Black man named Mohamed Noor. Contrast and compare how the media, the public, social forums, and the courts treat a Black officer whose victim is white, versus a white officer whose victim is Black. Will Noor be able to claim that he "feared for his life"? Betty Shelby, the officer who gunned down Terrance Crutcher, will resign the police force on August 3, 2017. The officer who murdered John Crawford while he contemplated purchasing a BB gun in WalMart will not face federal charges. The autopsy of Willard Scott who was shot by police during a traffic stop in February shows that Mr. Scott was shot in the back. In Arkansas, you must inform your rapist if you plan to seek an abortion. The conviction of an activist who was charged for laughing during Jeff Session's Senate confirmation hearings has been overturned and a new trial has been ordered. Tues July 18, 2017, 6pm Pacific Time
The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King declared that injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are living in threatening times. The White House has openly threatened CNN that critical coverage of the Trump Administration could affect a pending merger between Time Warner and AT&T. Chicago is threatening to deny the earned high school diplomas to graduates, unless they have a job, are enrolled in college, or enlisted in the military. House Republicans are threatening to force US troops to pay their own GI Bill. Indigenous journalist Myron Dewey who is known for work covering the Stand Rock camps and other Native American-led resistance to the Dakota Access Pipeline faces trial on July 12 and is threatened with conviction. He is accused of "stalking" and other harrassment during the use of a drone in his reporting work. We will revisit a major story coming out of the Pride marches in June, notably the Dyke March Collective in Chicago which barred three Jewish women from the gathering. Dallas County commissioner votes "No" to honoring murdered cops. Wait til you hear his reasoning. Minnesota governor wants to name a police training fund after Philando Castille. Studies show that cities rely more on fines for revenue if they have more black residents. The NAACP issued a travel advisory for African Americans visiting Missouri. African Americans are 75% more likely to be pulled over in a traffic stop than whites. This travel advisory is effective until August 28. A Texas Republican blocks the trans bathroom bill because he "didn't want a single suicide" on his hands. The Texas governor has said he may introduce another bathroom bill. US marshals sieze a Florida deputy's property to pay expenses for a man he shot and paralyzed. Tues, July 11, 6pm Pacific
Due to technical difficulties, this episode could not be aired last week. We are pleased to share it with you tonight. June is Pride month and LGBTQI rights are in the news. The White House shows its true colors. In Philly, new colors for the Pride Flag were proposed. It is the first anniversary of the Pulse massacre. Join us as we present "American Pride." Tues, June 20, 2017. 6pm Pacific
Why Fight for the Rebel Flag? The Confederate Flag - beloved by so many - is the battle flag of the losers. It is a symbol of the South which was willing to go to war to maintain its brutal economy of chattal slavery. Why it was allowed to continue flying after the Civil War is a mystery. But for many, they will fight tooth and nail to uphold and preserve this symbol of the system that dominated, enslaved, and demeaned an entire group of people. In St Louis, the new mayor wants a Confederate monument removed. In recent weeks, tensions have been high as pro-Confederate groups wishing to keep the monument clash with civil rights activists supporting its removal. In many of these clashes, the police openly favor the pro-Confederate groups. In New Orleans, the mayor has been adamant about his intention to take down the monuments and in doing so, formally reject the history of brutality, lynching, and bloodshed associated with the Confederate flag. Contrast Louisiana with Alabama, where the governor recently signed an order which outlaws the removal or tampering with "architecturally significant" that have been public property for more than 40 years old. In America, where anti-Blackness is all the rage, the subject of the Confederate flag continues to be a hot button topic. Rarely does one have a neutral opinion about the institution of chattal slavery, the Civil War, the Reconstruction, Jim Crow, and the current issues swirling around the rebel flag and Confederate monuments. This and more. Tues, June 6, 2017; 6pm Pacific Time
#DariusSmith Fifteen yr old, unarmed Darius Smith was gunned down by an off-duty officer in the Los Angeles area last Friday. Initially the police reported that no crime was committed, but after the teen died on Saturday, the officer involved claimed Smith attempted to rob him. Last weekend, a video went viral, showing Springfield, Illinois police officers beating children at an elementary school playground. The video can be viewed on the "In The Streets" Facebook page. Timothy Loehmann, who gunned down Tamir Rice in November 2014, has been fired. Apparently he could kill a child without punishment, but there are consequences for lying on his job application. The Trump Administration is in the process of financially gutting various civil and human rights departments in the federal government. They plan to minimize several federal agencies' civil rights efforts. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos insists that it is not the federal government's job to protect students from discrimination. A company owned by a Black woman has been contracted to repair and improve Flint, Michigan's water system. It has been over 3 years since the beginning of Flint's toxic water crisis. This and more. Tues, May 30, 6pm Pacific.
Tonight we have a very special rebroadcast of the very first episode of In The Streets with Beverley Smith. Jordan Edwards was 15. Police officers shot and killed him and lied about what happened. Thirty-eight people were killed by police during the month of April. In Los Angeles, 28 year old Zelalem Eshetu Ewnetu, an engineer employed by the California Public Utilities Commission, was killed by police as he sat in his car in the early morning of April 12. He "fit the description", of course. In Milwaukee, a grand jury has recommended criminal charges against several jail employees in the dehydration death of Terrill Thomas in April 2016. A federal judge is allowing an Alabama school district to return to segregated schools. US judges are more frequently jailing defendents who can't pay cash bail. This tends to affect Black and Brown people disproportionately. Kalief Browder, who was guilty of nothing but couldn't afford bail, languished in New York's Rikers Island for three years (two in solitary confinement). He was never formally tried for any crime. He committed suicide after his release. A Minnesota man who shot 5 Black protesters during a 2015 rally has been sentenced to 15 years in prison. Taser International will use police body camera footage to develop its latest artificial intelligence tool which may someday turn every cop into "Robo Cop." The resident of the White House says that he doesn't bother reading the executive orders he signs. Tuesday, May 2, 6pm Pacific
95 Days and Counting Today is the 95th day of the Trump administration. We will take a look. Attorney General Jeff Sessions has threatened that if Mexico refuses to pay for the wall, the tax returns and records of Mexican-Americans and those with "Spanish-sounding" surnames could be accessed and those Americans targeted for harrassment. The White House just announced its intention to sign an executive order requiring the Dept of the Interior to review the feasibility of removing some of the Obama-era protections and possibly sell more national monuments and federal land. Flint, Michigan's water troubles continue. Three years later there is still no viable solution. In Milwaukee, prosecutors are conducting an inquest to determine whether charges should be filed in the in-custody death of Terrill Thomas, a mentally ill man who was held in solitary for 8 days without water -- before his death by "profound dehydration". In Grand Rapids, five innocent black teens were held at gunpoint by police officers. The unarmed boys weren't considered suspects but were handcuffed and placed in the squad cars. Their terrified parents were told that "no one was hurt" and "no harm done".The Mayor and police chief have apologized. Questions remain. Miami's Chay Reed is the ninth trans woman murdered this year. Tues, April 25, 6pm PST

Living in America This week we focus on the news featuring various state legislation. Also news regarding our new US Attorney General Jeffrey Beauregard Sessions and the role of the Department of Justice and civil rights. New York state lawmakers have agreed to raise the age at which suspects can be charged as adults, from 16 to 18. A Maplewood, Missouri city ordinance punishes domestic violence victims who call for help more than twice by forcing them out of the city. NYPD officers clandestinely accessed Black Lives Matter activists' texts in 2014 and 2015. Working-class communities - mostly in the South and Midwest - will be affected when 220 cities will lose train transportation, due to the Trump budget. A federal judge in Indiana shot down an anti-abortion bill signed by then-governor Mike Pence in 2016, calling it "likely unconstitutional". A judge issued a formal rebuke to Officer Betty Jo Shelby, who shot unarmed Terrance Crutcher to death on video, after his car broke down. Last week, on LGBTQ Equality Day, the Nevada state legislature passed two new civil rights bills. This and more. Tuesday, April 11, 2017. 6pm PST
Wiretaps, Russians, and Lies. Oh no! The Washington Post reported that the United Arab Emirates arranged a secret meeting last January between the Trump team and a Russian authority. This secret meeting took place 9 days before Inauguration Day. The Justice Department has announced that it will be reviewing all police reform agreements. There will be no further investigations of police brutality, signaling to cops everywhere that they may behave as curbside "Judge, Jury, and Executioners" whenever they please. An Iowa state representative, Republican Shannon Lundgren, proposed a bill that would compel women who miscarry after the 20th week of pregnancy to carry their dead fetuses to term. On Wednesday, the White House issued an executive order to establish a commision to combat drug addiction. The upshot: Whites will get rehab. Non-whites will go to prison. The Tulsa cop who killed unarmed Terence Crutcher blames him for his own death. On Monday, the Democracts claimed the votes necessary to block Trump's Supreme Court nominee, Neil Gorsuch. But this opens the door for the Republicans to go "nuclear." Last week, the Iowa legislature approved a bill that reverses local minimum wage increses that had already been approved. This is the first time a state has nullified local minimum wage ordinances. Are you surprised that the Republicans voted UNANIMOUSLY for the reversal. A black police officer who killed a 6 yr old white child during the pursuit of a criminal has been sentenced to 40 years. Why is it that officers can be held accountable when the officer is black and the victim is white, but not vice versa? Where is the justice for 7 yr old Aiyana Stanley-Jones, for example? In Mississippi, a cruel new bill has a lovely name (HOPE) but it is designed to bring more austerity and suffering to those who are already poor. Tues, April 4, 6pm Pacific
#FindOurGirls The District of Columbia has reported 501 cases of missing juveniles, most of whom are black or Latinx, since the beginning of 2017. While some have been found, most have not. Some are feared to be sold into sex slavery as victims of human trafficking. Some are feared to be victims of kidnapping. Some are feared to be victims of homicide. There are troubling questions about the reluctance of the police to issue Amber Alerts for many of these minors. And there are major concerns about the numbers of officers who have been prosecuted for sex trafficking. Could there be a link? The FBI had no problem tracking down Tom Brady's football jersey in Mexico, but is unable to find these youngsters? Why? Davey Mark Jimmerson, age 22, a star athlete with asthma, was left to die in his jail cell during as asthma attack. Richard Haste, the former police officer who shot and killed unarmed 18 yr old Ramarley Graham in 2012 has resigned after being convicted on departmental charges of failing to follow police department protocols. Haste was given the option to quit rather than be fired. On Monday, James Harris Jackson was charged with "murder as an act of terrorism", a hate crime, for killing 66 yr old Timothy Caughman, a black man who was widely disparaged by the media.. This week, the White House appointed anti-LGBTQ activist Roger Severino to lead the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Civil Rights, an office whose work Severino has actively opposed. Makes sense, right? Appoint an unapologetic bigot to head up a civil rights advocacy division. A federal court has ruled in favor of the estate of an Army veteran, Elliot Williams, who died on the floor of his jail cell in Tulsa, OK after breaking his neck, lying naked paralyzed without help or medical care for 51 hours. The county must pay his family $10 million. Tues, March 28, 6pm PST
He lied. You surprised? The FBI director says there is no evidence to support White House claims that Barack Obama wiretapped Candidate Trump. However, the FBI has been conducting an ongoing investigation since last summer, regarding Trump officials and possible Russian interference in US campaign and election. At a meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Trump not only refused to shake hands with her for a photo op, but went on to lecture NATO members in a series of tweets that were immediately refuted as being incorrect by former US ambassador, Ivo Daalder, who publicly educated the FOTUS on how NATO works. Trump's Supreme Court nominee, Neil Gorsuch, has said that women should ask their employers for permission before becoming pregnant. He says that women manipulate employers for maternity benefits. Sometimes being a bigot hurts your career. Former North Carolina governor Pat McCory says that because he signed HB 2 - "the bathroom bill" - no one will hire him. Meanwhile, the North Carolina state Supreme Court ruled that the state Republican party's attempts to grab power and neutralize the new governor - a Democrat - are unconstitutional. In Kentucky, SB 17 has been signed into law. It allows student groups at high schools, colleges, and universities to discriminate against LGBTQ students. And in Wyoming, the state Supreme Court formally rebuked a judge for refusing to marry same-sex couples. The family of the 16 yr old girl (who was fatally shot last Tuesday by police pursuing the car in which she was a passenger) has identified her as Elena Mondragon of Antioch, CA. The family says she was pregnant. Neither the Fremont nor Hayward, CA police departments have named Elena as a crime suspect. Tuesday, March 21, 2017, 6pm PST
The largest march for Native rights in DC is ignored by the mainstream media and the White House. Why? An approved bill in the US House on its way to becoming law allows employers to require genetic testing for employees and will allow employers to impose hefty penalties on employees who declaine to participate. What the hell? New video contradicts the police narrative of Michael Brown's killing. You surprised? 3 people dead in 5 days in Los Angeles County jail. What is going on? LA District Attorney once again declines to press charges against a police officer who fatally shot an unarmed man. (This is beginning to sound like a broken record.) Last week, Clarence Thomas of the Supreme Court, questioned the legality of letting cops take innocent people's belongings. Early reports say hell has frozen over! In other mind-boggling news, recently the SCOTUS ruled that "racial bias in the justice system must be addressed" and "is necessary to prevent a systemic loss of confience in jury verdicts..." What the entire fuck? Is this the Twilight Zone? Because the Supremes seem to speak with forked tongue. Or else everyone else in the court system hasn't yet gotten the memo. It has been over 1000 days and the tap water in Flint, Michigan is still toxic. Now the mayor says it'll be 2 more years before the city will be able to test and treat its own water. And to date, there is no effort being made to bring clean water to the residents after the governor sued the federal government to be excused, saying it was too much trouble. Tuesday, March 14, 6pm PST
#FakeNews We're all too familiar with the phrase "fake news" these days. And all but his most ardent supporters realize that when the new occupant of the Oval Office calls something "fake", it's not because it's inaccurate or satire. He uses that label when he doesn't like something or disagrees, or when it fails to flatter his fragile, paranoid ego. Realize that if he disagrees with something - no matter how accurate or factual - he will label it "fake". Negative opinion polls and public criticism of tRump? Automatically labeled #FakeNews. He refered to his administraion as a "well-oiled machine". Ha! Now that you can believe is fake news! More #FakeNews: Sweden apparently suffered a brutal act of terrorism the other night, according to America's Dictator. #FakeNews. Also, Drumpf denies that anyone on his staff has any ties to Russia. Apparently, the US intelligence community is making up #FakeNews. In real news, an LA sheriff is being prevented by the courts from making available a list of over 300 problematic sheriff deputies whose testimonies would pose a credibiliy problem in criminal courts. These deputies' crimes include domestic abuse, substance abuse, brutality towards suspects, documented racism, and gross misconduct. But the courts chose to protect the officers. In real news, a new executive order on a travel ban is expected this week. It is said to contain protections for green card holders. In real news, Flint, Michigan's water is still toxic and unsafe for human consumption. With their incredible neglect, apathy, and inaction, the US Congress and the Michigan state government indicate that they consider Flint's population less than human. In real news, things are bleak at Standing Rock, North Dakota. #NoDAPL This and other real news, Tues, Feb 21, 6pm PST
Alternative Facts We will review the actions by the White House since Election Day. The new regime fired the Joint Chiefs and replaced them in the NSC with notorious anti-Semite bigot, Steve Bannon. Trump is now claiming that he didn't realize what he was doing. For the first time ever, a sitting US president is disinvited and will not be allowed to address the British Parliment. Key cabinet members have been confirmed. The latest news from about the Dakota Access Pipeline in Standing Rock, N. Dakota. It's important to note that the new president owns stock in the oil company. Sean Spicer and Kellyanne Conway continue to spin out of control as they concoct lies, now known as "alternative facts" according to the White House. The Virginia state House passed a "License to Discriminate" law last week. This anti-LBGTQ legislation must be approved by the Virginia Senate. A Michigan state senator says only solution to protests is "another Kent State" massacre. The GOP eliminates the Election Commission. All this and more. Tues. Feb 7, 6:30 pm, Pacific
First Five Days We review the actions of the new White House administration since Inauguration Day. Counting Inauguration Day as Day One, let's take a look at the civil liberty actions and other major changes of the last several days. Day One (Inauguration Day) - Civil rights page on the official White House website is removed. The LBGT page is removed. The Native American page disappeared. The military family support page is deleted. The website page regarding Americans with Disabilities, gone. The Texas Supreme Court has agreed to listen to arguments aimed at overturning marriage equality. Day Two (Saturday) - The White House calls a press conference to berate the press for showing photos of the paltry inauguration attenedance. The press secretary proclaims that these were the hugest crowds ever at any inaugural event. Kellyann Conway insists that the press secretary's lies were not lies at all, but "alternate facts". Day Three (Sunday) - Felony riot charges brought against over 200 inauguration protestors. Day Four (Monday) - Trump signs anti-abortion executive order that will have far-reaching consequences for access to women's reproductive health services here at home and abroad. The White House phone line turned off its public comment access. The White House website is no longer available in Spanish. The White House began banning federal employees from various agencies from participating or commenting on social media of any kind. Also silences USDA scientists until futher notice. Day Five (Tuesday) - White House expands bans, imposing a media blackout at the Environmental Protection Agency. Trump signed an executive action to allow the continued construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline, in which Trump holds stock. All this and the latest news. Tues, January 24, 2017, 6pm Pacific
Letters From Jail Every year during Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King's holiday weekend, there is a certain amount of posting on social media regarding Dr. King that attempts to use his legacy to somehow shame civil rights advocates into silence. There are numerous attempts to use his words against the very people for whom he fought. His image is distorted, his legacy is customized to suit certain purposes. And often his name is invoked in order to criticize those who demand justice. It is important to understand who Martin Luther King was and what he stood for. Tonight we will get into some of MLK's lesser-known writings. Also the latest news. Tues. January 17, 2017, 6pm Pacific
Resolution or Revolution Rejected in 1986 as being too racist to sit on a Federal bench, Senator Jeff Sessions' hearing for the nomination as US Attorney General is proceeding as scheduled. A group of black teens committed horrible acts of assault on a mentally-disabled man. They are already in custody. Contrast theirs with the case of the white high school student who raped a physically-disabled black teammate with a wire hanger and walked away, scot free. On January 9, bomb threats at Jewish community centers in six states (Florida, Tennessee, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, and South Carolina) were reported. A wave of violence against trans and gay people has swelled in the first week of 2017. A Pensylvannia trans man, Sean Hake, was killed by police last week after officers responded to a domestic disturbance call. Hake is the third trans person killed in 2017. Trans women, Jamie Lee Wounded Arrow of S. Dakota and Mesha Caldwell of Mississippi were also murdered. Disturbing developments in the Freddie Gray case as a federal judge allows the officers to sue the failed prosecutor. Also news about Michael Brown's parents' lawsuit. Kentucky Democrat Rick Nelson introduces two anti-LGBTQ laws. And Massachusetts sheriff offers inmates as slave labor to build Trump's wall. The US House of Representatives recently made it easier for the government to sell or give away national parks, national forests, and other public lands. Colin Kaepernick of the San Francsico 49ers donated $50,000 toward building a medical health clinic at Standing Rock. The donation will help to pay the salaries of the medical personnel. The free clinic serves the Water Protectors defending against the Dakota Access Pipeline. California bans official, state-funded travel to four states in response to their anti-LGBTQ laws. Tues January 10, 6pm PST
