In this episode of Mid Atlantic, host Roifield Brown sits down with Sangeeta Pillai, feminist changemaker and host of Masala Podcast, to tackle a troubling facet of artificial intelligence: its impact on body image. The conversation centers around AI-generated beauty standards and their capacity to amplify already damaging ideals perpetuated by social media and advertising.Sangeeta's recent article sparked the discussion, highlighting how AI beauty pageants reflect narrow, harmful notions of beauty—thin, white, and hypersexualized. They examine the role of AI in reinforcing societal biases, particularly its lack of diversity and the troubling implications for young people growing up surrounded by such unrealistic portrayals. With studies showing that children as young as six worry about their weight, the conversation paints a stark picture of the psychological toll these developments could take. They also delve into AI's role in dating, the commercialisation of "perfect" bodies, and the urgent need for regulation in a fast-moving, ethically murky space.Roifield and Sangeeta leave listeners pondering whether humanity can reclaim authenticity in an era increasingly defined by artificial perfection. While the conversation highlights the downsides, it also underscores the importance of sparking debate now—before AI's effects on self-image spiral out of control.Notable Quotes:"Imagine if you take the worst ideas of beauty and let AI amplify them—that's where we're heading." – Sangeeta Pillai"A six-year-old child looking in the mirror thinking, 'I need to be thinner'? That's insane." – Sangeeta Pillai"What AI does is strip out what makes us human: our imperfections, the very things that make us beautiful." – Sangeeta Pillai"When we don't ask ethical questions about AI now, it's like letting the train leave the station—soon, it'll be too late." – Roifield Brown"We're not just addicted to technology; we're replacing human connection with it—and it's making us lonelier than ever." – Sangeeta PillaiFurther Reading:Sangeeta Pillai's article on AI beauty pageants and body image issues: Soul SutrasStudies on AI and body image: The Bulimia ProjectEU's AI Act and its approach to regulating emerging technologies: European Commission AI ActFor a deep dive into these issues and more, subscribe to Masala Podcast or follow Sangeeta Pillai on Instagram. Let's face it, life hits hard sometimes. So if you find your hopes and dreams and mental well-being needs a boost, you're tuned into the right podcast. Welcome to Inspire Us with your host, J. Paul Nadeau, a former hostage negotiator turned motivational speaker and acclaimed author of Take Control of Your Life. Intro: I'm so excited. I'm not only with the playwright of an amazing and true story, but I'm with a wonderful human being, somebody that I've known for several years, someone I met in the acting community.  In this episode, we're going to dive deep into a story that resonates across cultures and generations. I'm your host, J. Paul Nadeau, and today we have the privilege of speaking playwright Sangeeta Wyley about her profound and evocative play, We the Same. The play delves into the harrowing experiences of Vietnamese refugees, the boat people, who fled their homeland in search of safety and a new beginning after the fall of Saigon in 1975. Through vivid storytelling and richly drawn characters, Sangeeta brings to life the perilous journeys these refugees undertook, facing threats like pirate attacks, treacherous typhoons, and the uncertainty of refugee camps. Their physical struggles are just one layer of the narrative. The play delves deeper into the emotional and psychological challenges of displacement, the loss of home, the fragmentation of families, and the struggle to maintain one's cultural identity in an unfamiliar land. We the Same is more than just a historical account of the journey from Vietnam; it's a universal tale of resilience and the human spirit's capacity to endure and heal. Sangeeta weaves her own journey into the narrative, bridging connections between cultures and generations. She invites us to reflect on what it means to belong, to overcome adversity, and to reconcile with our past while forging a path forward. Join us as we uncover the layers of this remarkable work and the profound messages it carries about identity, survival, and the bonds that tie us together.

D. Sangeeta is a PhD, and founder and CEO of gotara.com who started the company during the pandemic to help improve the gender gap in STEM positions for women. Sangeeta cites the statistics of women leaving STEM positions at twice the rate as men and in her work, she identifies reasons for this such as non-supportive managers, lack of opportunities, lack of recognition and lack of communication.   The mission of Gotara is to offer career support and a global career network to women in STEM professions.   Her 26-year corporate career included top executive positions Amazon, GE and Neilsen.  Sangeeta admits to experiencing fear around taking on new positions yet she took the risk. She suggests women should risk accepting new positions and opportunities especially when someone is recommending them. She talks about being straightforward and vocal which has been a strength during her career.   Sangeeta faced various gender bias and ethnic bias experiences during her career and has some great wisdom to share.  Listen in, it's a great podcast! www.gotara.com LeadingShe.com Instagram.com/LeadingShe Facebook.com/LeadingShe https://www.linkedin.com/company/leadingshe/

Thriving - not merely surviving - in a data world requires learning the foundational elements of data analytics instead of learning the next fancy tool. That's the conclusion of business intelligence and analytics leader, Sangeeta Krishnan, in her book, Thriving in a Data World: A Guide for Leaders and Managers. While there is a bit of "math on the test," you'll benefit from Sangeeta's straightforward, value-based counsel about topics ranging from big data versus small, the data function as a cost center or a positive ROI generator, and whether data resources are better centralized or embedded locally. That is, of course, if you're in the 100% of organizations seeking to become more data driven.

In episode 27, we met Dr. Sangeeta Sahi and discussed her innovative approaches to integrative health and wholeness, focusing on the individual. In this episode we extend the scope of the conversation to social, cultural and cosmic perspectives of integral evolution and spirituality. Sangeeta shares a visionary yogic experience by Mirra Alfassa, known as the Mother to devotees of Integral Yoga, of a supramental ship which comes to earth to expedite the evolutionary process of the spiritualization of material substance. Inspired by this, Sangeeta has organized a conference called the Mothership Summit, which is an experiment in designing a new planetary narrative, and will be featuring world leading scholars in integral theory and evolutionary spirituality. We collectively discuss themes to be covered in this summit and focus in on the importance of spiritual technologies of cultivating yogic equanimity, acceptance, receptivity and sincerity. Rather than being a passive vessel of divinity, we discuss the narrative of becoming an active participant and co-creator in the emergence of a supramental evolution and divinization of the earth and world.
