Google partners either co-market, co-innovate or co-sell, and they can also leverage Google's sister companies. When you would like to partner with Google, it's important to understand the culture, and Samrah explains their core culture elements, which include talent, strategy, structure, environment and innovation. It is these core drivers that lead to producing innovative solutions. As far as partnering goes, Google always focuses on the user that's going to utilize that particular solution and they also consider how the solution (including partnerships) will scale to 10X. The partners that are most successful with Google are those that leverage Google's culture of innovation, take a transformational approach, have a narrow focus and come with a firm business plan. Samrah explains the framework they use to drive joint success with partners and shares the fully or partially-funded opportunities to partner with Google. He is a millennial, but he thinks he does not fit into the stereotype. His personality did not allow him to sit at a desk from 9-5, so he went into the construction world. They talk about the generational gap due to technology and different mindsets. Kevin sees technology as a great tool but highly addictive. While Boomers and Gen X avoid using technology and would rather talk face to face, Millennials and Gen Z would rather send out ten text messages and start five different conversations. Kevin shares his thoughts on how to shrink that technology gap between generations.Episode Summary05:00 – That generational gap is getting wider and wider because fewer and fewer people look at careers in the building industry thinking they cannot make that much money doing something like that.06:35 – One of the biggest gaps is mostly the office and production teams – leveraging and utilizing technology on the office and management side and the production side. 14:25 – I'm usually the youngest person to walk into a room. It is sometimes helpful to have a younger person in the room. The struggle with them is to show up at work, not with technology.16:38 – Boomers – accept that technology is not something that's just going to go away.18:08 – Gen Z – realize that you are not going to be as good at technology as younger generations. What did you stock up on in 2020? Toilet paper? Cleaning products? Furniture for your permanent staycation? We rarely consider the energy needed to make all those products, but from those we use daily to the steel and concrete that build our world, nearly everything in our economy comes from industrial processes. And those industrial processes use a lot of energy, and – at least for now – rely in large part on fossil fuels. America's industrial sector was responsible for more than a third of national emissions in 2019, and that trend will only grow as our economy recovers. Achieving a net-zero future requires decarbonizing the industrial sector, but how do we solve such a large challenge? Mortgage origination volume this year is on track to be the highest in more than 15 years, led by a strong wave of refinances.Just how busy have lenders been? 2003 was the last time refinance activity was as high as the $1.75 trillion MBA is forecasting for 2020.Mortgage rates have reached record lows, driven by the unprecedented economic weakness, as well as the Federal Reserve's substantial efforts to keep the economy afloat by cutting short-term rates to zero and purchasing more than $1 trillion dollars of mortgage-backed securities. Homeowners are benefitting from lower monthly payments, while lenders are struggling to manage high volumes – all during a time when their employees continue to work remotely, and many temporary origination flexibilities remain in place. The Daily Download examines the most compelling articles reported from the HousingWire newsroom. Global carbon dioxide emissions have increased by nearly 50 per cent since 1990, and 2019 was the warmest year on record. Climate change touches everything we do and for the 1st time, the World Economic Forum has named climate change as a leading risk facing business and our survival. Episode 25 discusses the Green Revolution and all its glorious, wicked, complexities. Climate action requires rapid changes that must take place in four key parts of society: energy generation, land use, consumer behavior, and industry. Tom Raftery, Global VP and SAP Innovation Evangelist joins Sheri Hinish, and both have a deep-rooted passion for sustainability and sustainable development.  This episode touches on everything from SDG 13, to a comparison of renewable energy sources, how to build a green data center, why Google and Microsoft cloud environments are more sustainable than AWS, and the business case for transition to EVs (electric vehicles). What is the social cost of carbon? How do we trust businesses and suppliers to be sustainable in environmental stewardship? How can reporting and pricing carbon can reduce emissions and enable smarter planning in supply chains? According to conservation.org, the Price tag for climate change in the US is $ 140 billion per year. This is what it would take to make the changes humanity needs to adapt to a warming world. It may sound like a lot, but it’s less than 0.2% of global GDP. And the cost will only increase the longer we take to act ambitiously. Supply Chains, technology, and Industry 4.0 are a conduit for climate action using environmental risk management, the cost of carbon, and understanding consumer behavior where shifts like purchaser-to-participant and “shades of green” meet the consumer in their green journey. There are natural climate pivots like the “flexitarian diet” and small behavior shifts that pay dividends. There is a fiscal argument for climate action that is unpacked in this episode, inlacing SAP’s new Climate 21 initiative. Climate change impacts natural and human systems globally through the increase globally averaged surface temperature, extreme weather events, changing precipitation patterns, rising sea levels and ocean acidification. These risks will ultimately impact people’s livelihoods, particularly marginalized groups such as women, children, and the elderly, as resources, food and water become more scarce. If you think about the SDGs, the lasting effects of climate change tied to SDG 13 makes it very difficult to achieve other goals. The green revolution starts with you. Learn more about how we can design a better future with zero waste, equality, and transition to carbon neutrality, and carbon negative solutions to unite people and our planet. The major markets experienced losses last week as US-China tensions and coronavirus concerns were renewed. The tech centric Nasdaq fell about the same as the MSCI Emerging Market index. Meanwhile, the Dow, S&P 500 and MSCI World Indices all fell down in the mid 2% range. The losses were fairly consistent at the sector level with only Healthcare ending in positive territory for the week. Energy suffered the greatest losses but was followed closely by real estate. The losses in the Energy sector were despite gains made in the GSCI Crude Oil Index totaling 8.63% for the week. It was the GSCI Natural Gas Index that was hit with a loss of 11.9% for the week. Real Estate and Financials both suffered last week as the Mortgage Bankers Association reported another increase in the weekly mortgage forbearance rate to 7.91% An increase was expected as a new month began and more borrowers requested forbearance on their home loans. Mike Fratantoni, MBA's Chief Economist and Senior Vice President of Research and Industry Technology, said that “FHA and VA borrowers have been most impacted by the job losses thus far, with the share of Ginnie Mae loans in forbearance at almost 11 percent.” The economic instability has cause some to wonder if we might see negative rate in the Fed Funds Rate by next year. Midweek, Fed Chair Jerome Powell squelched the idea of negative interest rate in the U.S. stating, “The committee’s view on negative rates really has not changed. This is not something that we’re looking at.” Finally, on Friday the U.S. Department of Commerce announced plans to restrict Huawei from using American made technology and software in its manufacturing of semiconductors. The rule change is set to go in effect in September. “Despite the Entity List actions the Department took last year, Huawei and its foreign affiliates have stepped-up efforts to undermine these national security-based restrictions through an indigenization effort. However, that effort is still dependent on U.S. technologies,” said Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross. This news echoes last years trade war headlines as the US, along with much of the world, looks to China for explanation for the handling of information and mitigation for the early days of the coronavirus pandemic.

Real estate is not behind in adapting to modern technology. But there were times when the tools to properly analyze and draw relevant conclusions from data were reserved for bigger real estate companies and investments firms. However, thanks to the boom in personal computing (mobile, tablets, wearables etc.) anybody can find information on a property within a few minutes. Not only that, today mining listing of homes for sale and rent, geographic information systems data, results of consumer surveys, census information etc. and then further analyzing this enormous swathes of information – much of it aggregated from disparate places and formats can reveal actionable trends, patterns and associations when analyzed computationally. It’s time for real estate agents to start applying the insights big data provides to enhance business, attract more buyers and sellers and generate more leads.

How were people affected by the government shutdown and the possible impending continuation? (:50)  Interest rates have been volatile of late. With investors running back and forth from stocks to bonds, where do you see interest rates heading as we enter the 2nd and 3rd quarter of 2019? (2:17)  By all accounts refinancing is dead. However, I’ve been pushing my sales force to not give up on refis. Are you seeing the effect of expanded home equity positions giving an uptick to cash out debt consolidation and refinances for renovation? (4:47)  Millennials. They are the so-called saviors of our current market. Do you think that this is true, and how much of an impact on this year and the next few years to come? Will the Millennial home buyers save our industry? (7:06)  Do you think that the GSE reform for Fannie and Freddie will happen anytime soon, and if this happens, what real effect will this have on our industry moving forward? (8:52)  Embracing technology is something all mortgage lenders/brokers need to do. What real effect do you think the digital mortgage will have on mortgage industry. What opportunities or perils does that offer us as an industry? (10:52)

US and European policies toward university-industry technology transfer. Professor Mowery discussed institutional models for technology transfer and challenges for implementing these in small open economies.
