In this podcast episode, we discuss self care beyond conventional methods. Taylor, founder of Inner Workout and author, shares her unique perspective on self care, offering practical advice and revealing how she turned her insights into an accessible app. We delve into the importance of listening to oneself, breaking down self care myths, and integrating small, impactful practices into daily life. We also explore the impact of technology on self care and strategies to mitigate its effects. This conversation is essential for business owners looking to balance productivity with personal wellbeing. KEY TAKEAWAYS COVERED IN THE PODCAST Self-care is listening inwards and responding with love: It's not a set of tasks, but rather checking in with yourself and understanding your needs. Forget the "all or nothing" mentality and focus on what works for you in the present moment. Start with cultivating the practice of listening within: This can involve journaling prompts to identify what drains your energy or simply checking in with yourself throughout the day. Learn to listen to your body's cues as well. Develop a toolkit of self-care responses:  This includes proactive activities you enjoy, but also reactive responses for when things go wrong. These can be anything from breathing exercises to calling a friend. Remember, self-care doesn't have to be expensive or time-consuming. If you enjoyed this episode then please feel free to go and share it on your social media or head over to Apple podcasts or Spotify and give me a review, I would be so very grateful. I have a confession. After I suffered from single-sided hearing loss in 2018 and my Dr. suggested I dive deep into self-care, I was under the false belief that true self-care had to cost a ton of money. Acupuncture, massage, chiropractor, wellness supplements, you name it. When we moved to the mountains, I started walking in nature and realized that self-care could look much different than I thought. I'm tired of the narrative that big companies tell us that self-care must be expensive and that you must spend a lot on it. That's why I asked Taylor Elyse Morrison, founder of Inner Workout, to demystify what self-care truly is for us all. Taylor turned being bad at self-care—and being firmly convinced of every human's potential—into a career. Recently named one of Fortune's 10 Innovators Shaping the Future of Health, Taylor is tired of aspirational 'wellness as usual.' Instead, she makes well-being and personal development more accessible. In this conversation, I get to the bottom of what self-care is and how to practice it. We will uncover some simple, easy, affordable, and transformative ways of self-care to help you with whatever you're going through today. Taylor Elyse Morrison always felt overwhelmed by the idea of self-care until she realized that, in her words, “self-care is listening within and responding in the most loving way possible,” and it completely changed her perspective on what it looks like to care for herself.    Taylor went on to turn her newfound relationship with self-care into a career. She's now the founder of the company Inner Workout and the author of a book by the same name. Taylor uses her coaching, mindfulness, and movement training to meet people where they're at and offer actionable steps towards creating a world without burnout.   Taylor's approach to self-care feels so welcoming and accessible because she knows the struggle firsthand. Have you ever said ‘yes' to something, but knew in your gut that the answer should really have been ‘no'?  That's not just a passing feeling or empty hunch. It's your body's way of communicating with you. Checking in with how your body responds when it's time to make a big decision is the pathway to unlocking your inner wisdom.  Today on The Bridge to FulfillmentⓇ, Blake welcomes Taylor Elyse Morrison, founder of Inner Workout. Recently named one of Fortune's 10 Innovators Shaping the Future of Health, she has turned being bad at self-care into a career, helping others cultivate well-being and focus on personal development. Tired of aspirational 'wellness as usual', she builds businesses, content, and experiences focusing on balance over burnout.  In this episode, you'll hear about Taylor's experience, and how she heeded the call to start listening to what her body was telling her. You'll learn how her own Inner Workout came from the choice to opt for self-care over continued burnout. She shares her experience of helping people connect with their inner wisdom, and how you can begin to walk the path of ease toward a more aligned future.    What You'll Learn: How Taylor recognized the need to listen to her body (6:13) Identifying the 5 Dimensions of Well-Being (9:55) Determining whether our experiences result from the self or the system (15:48) Having examples of what it's like to be outside of the corporate box (22:43) Leaning into what makes you feel more at ease (33:56)   Favorite Quotes: “If you're not getting to the root of the fact that your life is not sustainable for you, treating yourself to a massage or a fancy dinner or whatever, is not going to fix things.” –Taylor Elyse Morrison “I think as a society, we don't talk about the difficult stuff. We get into this internal negative dialogue and nobody is really understanding that they're not alone in this journey.” –Blake “All of our bodies are so wise but we can struggle to access that wisdom.” –Taylor Elyse Morrison “In entrepreneurship, your business literally comes down to you, period. Any fears, doubts, and anxieties you have will be your limiting factors. So it all comes down to doing that personal inner work in order to truly break those ceilings and keep moving.” –Blake “I find that when I listen within, not just to my body, but to my inner wisdom, there's this potent truth that I often don't want to acknowledge. Because a lot of times my inner wisdom is telling me to do something that's outside of what society might say will make me successful.” –Taylor Elyse Morrison “It takes work to be able to listen, and then complete the cycle of responding in that most loving way possible, rather than listen, and then be like, Ooh, I don't want to do that. That's too difficult.” –Taylor Elyse Morrison   Additional Resources:  Connect with Taylor Elyse Morrison: Inner Workout Taylor Elyse Morrison Taylor's Instagram Inner Workout's Instagram   Free Take Care assessment: https://innerworkout.co/take-care-profile   For programs and opportunities to work with Blake, go to www.BlakeSchofield.com

People often lament that they prioritize others' needs above their own, and they don't know how to put themselves first. I believe most of us are mostly selfish, so I don't think the problem is putting yourself first, I think the problem is putting self care first. People will overcommit to work, family, and community obligations, but ignore free times, exercise, and quiet solitude. I don't believe that we're all so altruistic that our days get vacuumed by charity work, I think our time is consumed simply by other seemling more important priorities. The term self-care conjures up images of manicures or lazy Sunday morning brunches, but what if you expanded that to include art, creativity, silence, adventure, friendship, and whatever else perhaps feeds your soul but almost by definition does not have a quantifiable reason for ending up on your calendar.  On this week's podcast, you'll earn the importance of making time for less strategic, you-focused activities.
