The Heart of it: A distinctly Tasmanian conversation

A key pillar in Essendon's quest for an AFLW premiership, Wynyard's Ellyse Gamble has enjoyed the highs and lows of football and of life since being drafted while on an east coast bushwalk in 2017. Gamble ran out for the Western Bulldogs in their first ever AFLW game, but injury robbed her of the chance to play in a premiership the following year. Last season, she played in round one just days after the devastating loss of her father.

I have a confession. After I suffered from single-sided hearing loss in 2018 and my Dr. suggested I dive deep into self-care, I was under the false belief that true self-care had to cost a ton of money. Acupuncture, massage, chiropractor, wellness supplements, you name it. When we moved to the mountains, I started walking in nature and realized that self-care could look much different than I thought. I'm tired of the narrative that big companies tell us that self-care must be expensive and that you must spend a lot on it. That's why I asked Taylor Elyse Morrison, founder of Inner Workout, to demystify what self-care truly is for us all. Taylor turned being bad at self-care—and being firmly convinced of every human's potential—into a career. Recently named one of Fortune's 10 Innovators Shaping the Future of Health, Taylor is tired of aspirational 'wellness as usual.' Instead, she makes well-being and personal development more accessible. In this conversation, I get to the bottom of what self-care is and how to practice it. We will uncover some simple, easy, affordable, and transformative ways of self-care to help you with whatever you're going through today. Are you a business owner struggling to find consistent income? Do you feel like you have to sacrifice your family for your business? If you're ready to create a sustainable business without burnout, then you need to listen to this episode with business coach Ellyse Colson.Ellyse Colson is a business coach for freelancing moms who want to create consistent income in their businesses. She started her business as a VA four years ago and has since transitioned into coaching others. It was all of her pitfalls and her perseverance that led her to help so many freelancing women create businesses that don't suck the soul out of them and make them feel like they have to sacrifice their family for their businesses. Ellyse struggled in the beginning of her business to find consistent work and clients. It took her six months to land her first paying client, and she was only making $3,000 a month from her nine clients. She was doing a variety of tasks for them, which made it difficult to market her business and find new clients. After losing two-thirds of her clients, she took the opportunity to reevaluate what she wanted to do in her business. She decided to niche down and focus on content repurposing, a skill she was passionate about and good at. This allowed her to attract better clients and make more money. In the matter of six months, she was able to make up for all the revenue she had lost from her previous clients. She also created a mini course to teach others how to content repurpose. In this episode, you will learn the following:1. The importance of building relationships in business.2. The importance of dedicating time for refining and working on your business.3. The importance of being honest with yourself, about the season you're in and what's currently on your plate.Resources:Website: https://www.thesustainablebusinesscollective.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ellyse_colson_/ Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/sustainableva.ellysecolson To learn more about me and to stay connected, visit the links below:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jessicapodcastpro/Website: https://www.avirtualteam.com/Ready to start your own podcast? Friends, help me welcome Ellyse Ungs from Salted Designs. Ellyse is the creative genius behind our branding and all the beautiful things you see with Empower Her Co. I welcomed Ellyse to the podcast not only for her entrepreneurial spirit, but for the way she balances being a mom of four, coach, and business owner.    Ellyse leads her business with passion and joy. I hope throughout this episode you sit back and listen to the ups and downs of entrepreneurship life. Enjoy, my friends!   Key Takeaways:    Ellyse's business began when she became a teen mom and knew she wanted a job where she could stay at home with the kids and be passionate about her work.  Without parent support, Ellyse says she wouldn't be where she is today. Her parents were her biggest motivators and pushed her towards success. It's important to create boundaries as a business owner. It's easy in the corporate world to clock-in and clock-out, but your customers don't realize this when you own the business. Today entrepreneurship is bigger; everyone has more access to information. When Ellyse began she had to be a trailblazer in the entrepreneurial world and help other business owners. The freedom of owning a business has created connections that were hard to make in the corporate world. “Everyday you have to challenge yourself with entrepreneurship.” “When starting a business, never be afraid to ask questions and don't compare yourself to others. “   Connect with Ellyse Follow her on Instagram for her work, designs, and fun reels!   Follow for More Follow Empower Her Co on Facebook and Instagram or visit our website for more information if you're a woman looking to grow your business in a nurturing community.

Episode 056: How to Repurpose Content with Ellyse Colson

Market Like a Boss

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 14, 2020 30:16

Most women struggle to put out content consistently. That’s because they’re not repurposing their content. When you repurpose content (vs. creating every single piece of content from scratch) you’re working smarter, not harder. That’s why I brought in content repurposing guru Ellyse Colson to give us all her tips in this week’s episode of the Market Like a Boss podcast.  Contrary to popular belief, you don't have to spend a lot of your time creating quality content for your audience. According to Ellyse, content repurposing involves taking a piece of content that you've already created (not just written but also podcast, video, live, etc.), then posting it to multiple platforms.  Sharing content is not the same as repurposing content. Sharing the same post on Facebook and Instagram at the same time won't encourage people to follow you on different platforms. You have to develop a strategy for your content vs. just posting the same content over and over for the heck of it. First, here’s what you need to have an effective content repurposing strategy: 1. Start with ONE social media platform. This is the place where your primary source of content comes from - whether it's your Facebook group, Youtube channel, podcast, or other platforms where you mostly get your ideal clients from. 2. If you want to extend to another platform, identify the PURPOSE of that platform. Start by adding one platform at a time. Once you identify the purpose of the platform, decide which type of content will perform best. This may involve some research, as well as trial and error to see which pieces of content get the most reach and engagement. Content strategy and repurposing is a marathon. It may take months for you to hone in on what resonates most with your audience. This is normal. Don’t shortcut the learning process because you’re impatient. There’s so much value in learning what works in real-time. Ellyse also shares three steps to repurpose your content once it’s created: 1. Start off with one primary piece of content. Your core content may come from a variety of sources - such as video, newsletter, podcast or blog posts. These sources will give you enough content that you can share multiple times on different platforms...which means less content you have to create! 2. Use a system where you repurpose content. Try out tools like Trello or a simple spreadsheet where you can brainstorm and list down your repurposed content. You’ll also need a schedule outlining when and where you're posting each piece of content. 3. Use an app to schedule out your repurposed content. This makes it easier to batch and schedule your content so you’re not tied to social media all day everyday. One of the main benefits to repurposing content is that it saves you time and energy that you can spend on landing and serving clients. Ellyse recommends that you sit down and take time for yourself to create your primary piece of content. This should be at a different time you're creating repurposed content so you can focus on each task and avoid exhaustion. Moreover, figure out the time of the day you have the most energy and creativity to create or repurpose content. If you feel like your current content strategy isn’t working, Ellyse recommends you ask yourself these questions:   What is your purpose of posting on different social media platforms? What is your call to action? Are you asking people to reach out to you? How engaged are you with your audience?   If you’re planning to hire someone to help with this, Ellyse advises getting to know the person first so you can build a certain level of trust. Then you can begin handing off tasks that you're comfortable with, such as scheduling your content. Once you have that foundation, you may delegate more advanced tasks to that person, such as taking your primary piece of content and repurposing it into a few posts to share elsewhere. #3: In this episode, we talk to stylist, Ellyse Nichole, about how exactly she became a stylist, starting her own business in New York City, and making her mark back home in Phoenix. Ellyse graduated from FIDM. Then slaved away for a few years in LA––if you can call putting underwear on David Beckham slave labor (!!!)––before moving to New York City and eventually branching off on her own in the concrete jungle. She made great strides on both coasts before coming back to her roots in Phoenix where she paired up with photographer Jennifer Perkins of @griffithimaging to offer brands full-service campaign concepting, styling and photography with @ellyseandjen. Ellyse also spills about recently turning 30, gut health, and cycle syncing. Lots of juiciness!   To connect with Ellyse, click here.   To follow all her fun projects with Jen, click here.   To ask us a question or request a guest, connect with us @betteroffpod or email betteroffpod@gmail.com.   Feel free to creep on your hosts a little further, too @thenikkibutler & @bbooks. In this episode we interviewed Ellyse VanderKamp from Aquinas College in Michigan. She worked with Sister Joan Thomas, OP, a Dominican Sister. My favorite quote from this interview is when Ellyse talks about the assumptions she had when she came into this project. She says that these ideas started to change when her sister told her, "if you've met one sister, you know exactly one sister." Ellyse and her sister get right at the heart of what this project is all about. Elly VanderKamp's project page: https://www.sisterstory.org /oral-history/sister-joan-and-ellyse-vanderkamp Music featured: Kai Engel: http://freemusicarchive.org/music/KaiEngel/ Sergey Cheremisinov http://freemusicarchive.org/music/SergeyCheremisinov/ Set Apart series art by Rebecca Zenefski. Here's My Secret is a podcast produced by Alicia Beyer about the oral history project SisterStory. Through interviews with student oral historians she learns more about their experiences and the valuable relationships forged between them and their Sister during the semester process. By reading the SisterStory blogs (www.sisterstory.org/student-blog) and personally getting to know each student prior to interviewing, we gain insight through Alicia into how this experience has changed individual lives and evolved perspectives on women religious. SisterStory is the ongoing story of National Catholic Sisters Week aimed at broadening awareness of Catholic sisters through the collection of oral histories, social media outreach, and the creation of additional media content. For more information visit www.SisterStory.org. National Catholic Sisters Week is a celebration of the lives and legacies of Catholic sisters every year from March 8-14 in conjunction with NWHM.
