After Mrs. Jenning's leaves, Elanor sets to writing a letter to Edward, but before she can finish her correspondence, he walks through the door. There is a very awkward pause… they had not seen each other since his marriage was announced, and after more time passes, he says that Mrs. Jennings told him that Elanor had news to tell him. He is very grateful for the Colonel's news, and thanks Elanor more precisely, believing that it is really thanks to her that the position has been offered to him. He then asks for the Colonel's address, says goodbye, and goes to the man to give his thanks. Mrs. Jenning's then returns, and after some more giddy talking about the subject, Elanor corrects the lady's mistake. Mrs. Jennings begs Elanor to ask Anne about everything that passed between Edward and his family since they were kicked out. Three days passed before Edward visited Lucy, he apparently stayed in an inn and gathered his thoughts. We hebben het natuurlijk over Jenning de Boo en Joep Wennemars op de 1000m, het zelfvertrouwen van Jutta Leerdam wat een voorbeeld mag zijn voor velen, en in een flupje tijd gaat het ook nog over de Noorse Biatleet die vreemdging. Jenning de Loo haalde de zilveren plak op de duizend meter tijdens de Olympische Winterspelen in Milaan. Joep Wennemars leek op weg naar een recordtijd, maar werd tijdens een wissel gehinderd door de Chinese schaatser Ziwen Lian. De zilveren medaille van De Boo werd dan ook overschaduwd door het drama voor Wennemars. "Sport gaat om vallen en opstaan", meent presentator Andrew Makkinga. "Ik vind het wel sneu. She comes to say, that Mrs John Dashwood is ill, and has been seen by a doctor who happened to be seeing Charlotte's newborn just after being to the Dashwood's place. Mrs. Jenning's then goes on to explain that Anne let slip to Fanny that Edward and Lucy have been engaged for the past year. This threw Fanny into hysterics and she, only after her husband's pleading with her to let them pack their bags first, threw the Miss Steeles out of their house. Elanor is shocked by this account and while she manages to keep her cool before Mrs. Jennings, she feels deeply shocked by what has happened. She then goes to Marianne and tells her of all that has passed. Marianne is distraught by the news and cries all throughout Elanor's recounting of Mrs. Jenning's story and of her knowledge of the affair. Only after Elanor says truly how hurt she was by Lucy's announcement does Marianne believe that her sister truly cared about it. Marianne then laments about how hard it must have been for Elanor to deal with what happened to her and also with what happened to herself. Following this Elanor urges Marianne not to be angry with Edward for his actions, and she does, though very upset with him. The following day, their brother comes to visit and talk through everything that happened at their house too. He explains what happened once Mrs. Ferrars heard the news, and more importantly what happened once Edward arrived… Mrs. Ferrars, Fanny, and John all apparently demanded that Edward end the engagement immediately, and no matter how severe the punishment for keeping it, Edward refuses. John then explains that Mrs. Ferras has vowed to make sure that Edward shall never be able to find a decent job, that he shall only have his 2000 pounds to live off of, and that she will bestow the estate that Edward was to inherit, on his brother, Robert. Mrs. Jennings finds Edwards actions very noble and offers, if the occasion were to arise, to invite Edward to stay with her while he gets onto his feet. They have a quick catch up, and after her business done walks his sisters out to Mrs. Jenning's carriage. The following day, he visits his sisters at Mrs. Jenning's place, where he makes a very good impression on her and Colonel Brandon, who was also visiting. He asks Elanor to walk with him to Sir John Middleton's place where he is hoping to make their acquaintance. She readily consents as the weather is nice. He goes on to nudge her about Colonel Brandon, who he believes is in love with Elanor. She tries to dissuade him from this idea, but he doesn't want to hear it. He seems very keen on the Colonel after finding out about his financial situation. He then talks about Mrs. Jennings and her financial situation and seems certain that she will bestow some money on his sisters too. This seems to have been a good thing however, as he seems to appreciate the village and countryside a lot more than before. Marianne presses him to describe the areas as he sees them, but he refuses, as he has no knowledge of the picturesque. To him, it is a fine country, but nothing more, he cannot describe the country better. During this conversation, Marianne happens to notice a ring on Edward's finger, which is embossed with a plait of hair. Marianne thinks this hair to come from his sister, but Elanor knows it to actually be her own hair, and she is finally relieved and convinced once again is Edward's affections. At the middle of the day, they are greeted by Sir Middleton, and Mrs. Jennings, where the two are very quick to learn that Edward's surname begins with an F. Sir John Middleton also invites them all to tea, and to supper so that they can get to know this gentleman better. Nederland maakte het weer waar als schaatsland afgelopen weekend en Erik en Frank zijn er blijer mee dan ooit: want al die mooie personages, waarvan één met theemuts, dat doet ze wel wat. Verder kan de opening van het Formule 1-seizoen niet onbesproken blijven natuurlijk, gaat het over het grote artikel over de jeugdopleiding van AZ en over de wedstrijd tussen  Ajax en AZ. En, last but not least: we duiken in de bergen tekeningen die zijn ingestuurd!

Vanavond met Sophie: Jenning de Boo schuift aan over zijn WK-titel. We blikken vooruit op hét belletje tussen Trump en Poetin. Oranje staat binnenkort in de kwartfinale van de Nations League tegen Spanje. En we eren Rob de Nijs met Cornald Maas, Frits Spits en een optreden van Frank Boeijen.  

Hij deed ons toch weer verbazen, die Jenning de Boo. Het middenterrein stond even stil toen De Boo z'n eerste wereldtitel behaalde.  Gelukkig zetten wij van de NOS Schaatspodcast precies op tijd de microfoons weer aan om na te praten! De coach van Jenning de Boo, Dennis van der Gun, schuift ook aan. Dat kwam goed uit want met Femke Kok en Antoinette Rijpma-De Jong leverde zijn ploeg Reggeborgh nog twee wereldkampioenen. Het mes stond de schaatsers een weekend lang op de keel. Wie werd er Nederlands Kampioen Afstanden en wie kwalificeerde zich voor het WK? Na een weekend vol adrenaline neemt Marijke Groenewoud plaats achter de NOS Schaatspodcast-microfoon. Ze won drie keer goud in Heerenveen en was op zaterdagavond ook nog precies op tijd in Utrecht om haar 15e marathon van het seizoen te winnen. Wat een ontknoping van drie dagen schaatsen in Thialf! In de laatste rit van het EK Allround bij de vrouwen reed Antoinette Rijpma-de Jong tegen Joy Beune. Ze ging als aan een elastiekje achter Beune aan, in de wetenschap dat ze een dikke 5 seconden mocht verliezen. Rijpma-de Jong hield een seconde over en werd zo Europees kampioen. Daarna reed ze een rondje in een koets achter paarden die ze ook nog eens bleek te kennen. En toen schoof ze ook nog eens aan bij ons in de NOS Schaatspodcast. Wat een dag! More than 30 people were arrested or cited after a huge brawl broke out at a Fourth of July celebration at Romare Bearden Park in Uptown, police announced Wednesday.  Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Johnny Jennings confirmed that of the 32 people who were cited or arrested, 17 were minors. The parents or guardians of 15 arrested minors were cited for contributing to the delinquency of a minor, CMPD said. The suspects are facing numerous charges, including disorderly conduct, carrying a concealed weapon, resisting a public officer, assault on a government official, and possession of a firearm on city property.  Jennings said it started when a group of teenagers lit illegal fireworks and started fights. He said some of the suspects were running through the crowd wearing masks, causing panic in the park. Jenning condemned their actions, saying that's "not who Charlotte is," and credited officers and staff for keeping things under control. One of the great historical Hollywood mysteries, still unsolved, revolves around the death of silver screen comedienne Thelma Todd. She was found dead in her car on December 16th, 1935, killed by carbon monoxide poisoning according to the Los Angeles coroner. But rumors have circulated for decades that she was murdered, with suspects that have included her live-in boyfriend Roland West, ex-husband Pat DiCicco, and even New York mobster Charles "Lucky" Luciano. My guest today is Pat Jenning, who along with co-author Marshall Croddy authored the book, "Testimony of a Death: Thelma Todd: Mystery, Media and Myth in 1935 Los Angeles".
