Sylvester grew up in Marin County, on the doorstep of San Francisco. It was a nurturing community for a high-school punk with a pompadour and, later, for a sober songwriter with a proclivity for moody psychedelia. But he wanted to be challenged and inspired by a new setting and scenario around strangers who prompted him to approach his music in unexpected ways. So in September 2020, as the world continued to reel in lockdown, Sylvester headed several hours south to Los Angeles, a city that, despite the relative proximity, the film buff knew largely from classic and cult films situated there. When he arrived, he kept digging into that cinematic past—Robert Altman's The Long Goodbye, with John Williams' classic theme, or classic 90s movies about East LA, many featuring Edward James Olmos. They shaped his understanding of his new town just as it began to open. This is one pillar of the multivalent and endlessly lush La La La, Marinero's new album about sobriety, identity, and fantasy that is playfully named both for the city that helped shape it and the sophisticated pop it contains. Sylvester wrote about characters outside of himself, whether considering the heroine reckoning with her own version of keeping clean or the screenwriters whose work was deemed communist simply as a political convenience. He linked those songs with motivational anthems about self-acceptance and playful numbers about flirting through food, shaping a 12-song set rich with humor, empathy, and encouragement." Jess Sylvester is a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist based in Los Angeles. His third full length record as Marinero is called La La La and is set for release on February 14th via Hardly Art. El 13 de diciembre de 1721 falleció el marinero Alexander Selkirk, conocido por su naufragio en una de las islas del Archipiélago de Juan Fernández y cuya historia inspiraría el libro "Robinson Crusoe".

Dentro de unos días cumpliría 73 años, pero su vida se paró hace justo una semana. Su rabel y su voz “cálida y brava” solo quedarán en nuestros corazones y en sus grabaciones. Hoy dedicamos todo el programa al músico y cantante cántabro Chema Puente, recientemente fallecido. Por tercer día consecutivo, los servicios de Emergencias han buscado sin éxito a los ocupantes de un cayuco que volcó el sábado cerca de la isla de El Hierro. Salvamento Marítimo, Guardia Civil y Cruz Roja han llegado a recuperar nueve cadáveres, pero todavía siguen rastreando la zona del naufragio para localizar a más de medio centenar de desaparecidos. Manuel Capa, delegado sindical de la CGT y marinero de Salvamento Marítimo en Canarias, ha catalogado este naufragio como "la peor tragedia" que han vivido en Canarias. En 24 horas de RNE ha expresado que mantienen la esperanza de encontrar los cuerpos de los desaparecidos, pero que "por experiencia" es posible que no aparezcan todos: "Son personas que vienen con mucha ropa, muchos no saben nadar y en el momento en el que caen al agua se hunden, no les da tiempo a flotar". El cayuco volcó cuando las personas iban a ser rescatadas, Manuel Capa ha explicado por qué se produjo esto: "En el momento en que se abarloa a un barco para ser desembarcado, el costado del cayuco se vacía por un lado, pero se quedan en el otro lado. Eso genera que haya un sobrepeso en la banda contraria, lo que implica un posible vuelco".Escuchar audio

 La Consejería de Salud ha confirmado una nueva muerte por el Virus del Nilo Occidental. Se trata de una mujer que ha fallecido en Navarra y que había pasado varios días de vacaciones en la localidad sevillana de Utrera. La muerte se ha producido este domingo en un hospital de Pamplona tras agravarse las patologías previas con las que contaba a causa del virus. Salud también confirma la muerte de otra persona en la localidad sevillana de Carmona con el virus del Nilo, pero descartan que este haya sido la causa del fallecimiento, por lo que este caso no se va a incluir en los registros oficiales. Son seis las personas fallecidas en lo que llevamos de este año por este virus.46 personas han perdido la vida en las carreteras andaluzas en lo que va de verano, el 19% del total en España, que han sido 241. Son 7 víctimas más que en el mismo periodo del año pasado, un 18 % más. Son datos del balance provisional que ha presentado hoy el ministerio del interior y que señala a Andalucía como la comunidad con más fallecidos en números absolutos.Hoy comienzan en Cádiz los actos por el centenario de la publicación de "Marinero en Tierra", una de las obras más destacadas de Rafael Alberti. Son muchos los que se celebrarán en las próximas semanas, pero hoy comienzan con actividades para los más pequeños. Todo en una fecha muy destacada por la importancia de la obra, como nos ha contado en exclusiva para Radio Nacional de España el director del Instituto Cervantes, el granadino Luis García Montero.Escuchar audio
