Karoline Tamati, known to Kiwi music fans as Ladi6, is back with her new single Lightbulb - and she's confirmed there's more to come. Her upcoming new album Le Va is her first big musical project in seven years. This album promises to be a deeply personal project, as it was written as a tribute to Tamati's late mother. "We had a very specific theme for this next record - which was that we wanted it to be more indicative of the live show. In the past, we hadn't had that so much, we'd sort of kept to the mellow end of soul and R&B." LISTEN ABOVESee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Billie's Mix featuring Carrie Underwood, Ladi6, Dance Monkey, Billie Eilish, B52s and more
This is a vinyl-only one-hour-long mix. A relaxed summer session that rises and sets slowly like a July sun, with a low-angle sonic glow both at the start and at the end, and all the good things in between. Moving from a dreamy throbbing anticipation of "Dreams of Coke" to a royal blue twilight courtesy of Ladi6, this selection features moments of some rare analog beauty and an occasional timeless classic thrown in for good measure. Sampling spontaneously some of the great soulful house of the last decade, the mix smuggles in a few vital messages too, inspiring us to speak our words carefully and to reflect on our digital addictions. The farther you go with it, the groovier is the flow. At the end of the day, it's about the healing power of good music. And it is in this spirit that the 'vinyl domain' residency at the d59b radio kicks off. Welcome to Talking Tunes by Girls Are Awesome where we deconstruct female music artists and the processes around one specific song. Talking Tunes is hosted by producer and songwriter Vakle. This episode is centered around badass rapper and singer from New Zealand, Ladi6, who dives into her more than ten years of experience in the music industry with the enthusiasm of a proper maverick. We caught her while she's busy on tour with the reggae soul band, Fat Freddy's Drop, and our conversation spans these touring topics to her transition from rapper to solo singer to her studio life and being a working mother. The song in focus is called "Walk Right Up", a warm reggae tune off her 2010 album, Time is Not Much. Tune in! Girls Are Awesome is a media platform and brand dedicated to increasing and redefining female representation.
