Shoot us a Text.Happy Friday! Today, we're covering how Elon rallied Tesla employees during a surprise all hands meeting last night. Plus, auto auctions have their best year since 2020 and consumers prefer AI-generated responses to reviews over those written by humans.Show Notes with links:Elon Musk held a surprise all-hands meeting at Tesla's Texas Gigafactory on Thursday night, reassuring employees amid a steep drop in stock value. Musk urged employees and investors to "hang on to your stock" while promoting Tesla's Cybercab and Optimus robots.Musk addressed Tesla's stock drop, which has lost roughly half its value since December, attributing future success to autonomous driving and AI.The operations team is tasked with ramping up Cybercab production, which Musk says will use a high-speed, electronics-style manufacturing process.Tesla plans to build thousands of humanoid “Optimus” robots, aiming to produce "at least one legion" this year and scale up further in 2025.Despite recent political controversy surrounding Musk, employees avoided the topic in the Q&A session.Musk admitted he is "stretched pretty thin," saying “I have like 17 jobs, at this point,” managing multiple companies and government advisory roles. The National Auto Auction Association (NAAA) reports that 2024 saw the highest number of vehicles sold at auction since 2020, marking a strong recovery for the wholesale market.NAAA member auctions moved nearly 7.6 million vehicles in 2024, a notable rebound.Of the 12 million vehicles offered, 61.3% were sold—the second-highest conversion rate ever recorded. The average wholesale price fell 5% to $13,921, but volume gains helped drive total sales to $105 billion.NAAA credits auctions as the "backbone of vehicle remarketing," offering vital services for efficient redistribution, offering logistics, reconditioning, and titling services that digital-only platforms struggle to match."Our members reported year-over-year growth despite headwinds," said Larry Dixon, NAAA vice president of auction data solutions.Who should respond to online reviews? AI or actual people? For the second consecutive year, BrightLocal's Local Consumer Review Survey found that consumers prefer AI-generated responses over those written by humans. The study raises questions about how consumers perceive AI in customer interactions. In two separate tests (a restaurant in 2024 and a vet clinic in 2025), 58% of respondents preferred AI-generated responses over human-written ones.89% of consumers are more likely to shop at a business that responds to reviews, while 56% hesitate if a business ignores them. While consumers prefer AI-written responses, 46% also say reviews "feel fake" if they seem AI-generated.Similar studies show AI-generated social media posts, ads, and product descriptions outperfoHosts: Paul J Daly and Kyle MountsierGet the Daily Push Back email at https://www.asotu.com/ JOIN the conversation on LinkedIn at: https://www.linkedin.com/company/asotu/ Read our most recent email at: https://www.asotu.com/media/push-back-email

2024 NHRA Top Fuel Champion Antron Brown won his fourth championship Sunday night. Then he talked with The Freak Nation a couple days later after he'd had time to think about the historic title. Brown is now ahead of NHRA legends Don Garlits, Shirley Muldowney, Larry Dixon, Gary Scelzi and, even, his teammate Angelle Sampey who won her titles in the Pro Stock Motorcycle class. In addition to his four titles Antron has 80 event wins, 851 round wins and last Sunday's Finals victory, settling his first championship as a team owner. Now, though, he must deal with the loss of former driver and last season's Crew Chief Mark Oswald who's leaving for retirement. Antron said Oswald is more than a crew chief to him and his team. With tramps like these, hoo boy, do things get real and stay there in a hurry as your humble hosts pop their clutches and tell Mercedes Lackey and Larry Dixon's Born to Run: A Novel of the SERRAted Edge to eat their dust! It's another novel of the urban fantastique, with an Irish pub described as "straight-edge", a couple battle scenes where you can really see the graph paper underneath the characters, and some of the most improbable radio playlists imaginable, and, as a novel of (sigh) the urban fantastique, one of us slides right off it and the other digs his eldritch fangs right into it. But not like that, the other way. NOTE: This novel, while mostly lighthearted, does traffic in material related to child sexual abuse and exploitation, in way reminiscent of a particularly tawdry episode of SVU. NOTE 2: Clsn now realizes he missed a good opportunity to pronounce it "elfs" throughout the episode and regrets the error. Recommendations: Upright Women Wanted, by Sarah Gailey Everything Everywhere All at Once Death Among the Undead, by Masahiro Imamura Seinfeld Bass Riff Variations Music: "Guinnesses" by MF DOOM (feat. 4Ize & Angelika "Shamrocks and Shenanigans" by House of Pain "Jesus Built My Hotrod (Redline/Whiteline Version" by Ministry
On episode 119 Don and Offie are joined by the one and only Larry Dixon. Starting by digging into pressures for Don and Offie to leave Washington and the reasons they want so badly to stay (0:12:00) then how Don learned that all cell phone companies are the same (0:35:00), the downfalls of very rigid corporate structures and why customer service is the king of the business world from Amazon to Chewy.com (0:45:00). Whether or not being a police officer is a customer service job, and how the unique aspects of their customers affect their jobs (1:10:00). The Christmas Parade attack in Wisconsin and the spread of misinformation by the corporate media (1:23:00), The recent school shooting in Michigan is discussed and whether or not the parents are being mistreated (1:30:00). How the absence of governmental action and exposure to governmental ineptitude has driven Larry into donation and secular tithing, why we as a society should not look to the government to solve our issues and how or why we may have gotten to this point (1:50:00). What a Vote A Rama is and why it could be a microcosm of our current political system (2:15:00). How COVID showed many people that libertarianism may not be a good enough political solution to maintain personal liberty, as well as exposing the propaganda machine and the willingness of the general public to trade freedom for safety (2:25:00). Larry's plan to start a community, not a commune, of like-minded individuals (2:55:00) and his pitch to get Don and Offie to move there, and a rehashing of leaving Washington vs. staying. Milley having organized a coup in the US government and blatant lies in the book (1:46:00). On this episode of the Autoweek Podcast, host Rory Carroll joins Mike Pryson, Jimmy Pelizzari and Robin Warner to talk about the latest news in racing. Kicking off the show, Autoweek NHRA correspondent Susan Wade calls in to dive into the recent antitrust lawsuit filed by NHRA Top Fuel past champion Larry Dixon against the NHRA. The drama started with an expired certification sticker and a suspension, but will likely end in a courtroom. Wade also talks about Tony Schumacher’s absence from the Top Fuel field. NASCAR correspondent Al Pearce also hops on the call to explain why he’s in Seattle. After the phone call, the gang jumps into the Azerbaijan GP. The race was on the not-so-interesting side -- with Mercedes taking another 1-2 finish -- but Warner defends it by laying out all of the action outside of the race. The guys also talk about Lewis Hamilton’s legacy, considering the dominance of the Mercedes-AMG program this year. Following Formula 1, the team dives into the W Series -- the all-women racing series -- that starts this weekend at the Hockenheimring. The series leads to a lively discussion of why this is a good thing for motorsports as a whole. Wrapping the show, Warner talks about his own adventure lapping the Hockenheimring in a Mercedes-AMG GT Pro.
