Player holdouts have jumped the shark if Laurent Koscielny at Arsenal is the latest player to do so; Leicester and Man U are still at a standstill over Harry Maguire and the Foxes are playing a dangerous game here and risk losing out on making the deal happen; Christian Pulisic joined up with Chelsea for preseason and I tell you what he needs for a succesful first year at Stamford Bridge; Neymar to Barcelona is still floating around but hasn't happened yet. Will it? Who knows. Thanks for listening. Subscribe. Share. Rate. Review.

As Aston Villa prepare to take their spending past £100m, Rob Dorsett phones in to assess whether it is money well spent (15:29). The panel assess how Antoine Griezmann will fit at the Nou Camp and whether there is also room for Neymar (34:50). As is the future of Dani Ceballos, with North London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham going head to head to land the rising Spanish star on loan from Real Madrid.

Thanks to Arsenal being Arsenal, there’s plenty to discuss. Obviously the primary topic is the stunning falling out between the club and its captain, Laurent Koscielny. But after that’s covered, there’s still time to fret about youth players leaving, transfer business hopefully getting done, and players who sadly seem to be sticking around. After the break, Scott (@oh_that_crab) celebrates the 300th episode in style, by examining the statistics that show just what an uphill battle faces Arsenal in the upcoming season. On this week's show we consider the 2-1 away defeat to Brighton, the lack of performance from the players and the manager's inability to turn things around quickly enough. All the while there's silence from the board who have also gone into hiding again, and why the people with responsibility need to act. We then answer listener questions about giving more playing time to young players in the Premier League, what hope do Arsenal have when they face Milan on Thursday, Laurent Koscielny, we predict our fixtures and final point total, there are further uncanny impressions and lots more. On this first Arsecast Extra of 2018, I'm joined by Andrew Allen to discuss the 1-1 draw with West Brom on New Year's Eve, the Arsenal performance, and of course the impact that referee Mike Dean had on proceedings. We chat about his terrible decision to award the home side a penalty, refereeing in general, and whether teams have to able to cope with that over the course of the season. There's also Wenger's comments about scheduling, and yet another poor day away, before we answer questions about our central defenders, Laurent Koscielny, Theo Walcott's uncertain future, the transfer window, a time machine trip down memory lane and more.
