Welcome back to the New Mom Boss Podcast! My guest today is on a mission to make other women more aware of perinatal mental illnesses like postpartum anxiety and OCD. Ligaya Lange gave birth to her daughter during COVID following a traumatic 54 hr/C-section birth. A few weeks later, she realized she was suffering from very bad anxiety that was preventing her from bonding with her baby. And so began a long and arduous journey to find the right treatment and get well for her family. In our conversation, we talk about the differences between standard anxiety and postpartum anxiety, how it can prevent proper bonding with baby, the signs and symptoms women can be on the lookout for, and what their first steps should be when seeking treatment. Some big takeaways are: Women with a history of mental illness are more prone to prenatal and perinatal mental disorders. Your primary doctor cannot help you as well as a perinatal psychiatrist can. Even if you've never suffered from a mental illness as a mom, you can help others by being educated and aware. Ligaya Means Happiness: Suffering & Surviving Postpartum Anxiety
A quick intro to my podcast about Anxiety and Postpartum Anxiety.
Throughout the summer, we are developing a brand new podcast with a new name and a new sound that will launch in late summer. In the meantime, we'll be revisiting some of our favorite shows from our first four years while still keeping you up-to-date on things to do in and around Atlanta. In 2019, AJC food, dining and living editor Ligaya Figueras opened up her kitchen to celebrity chefs Carla Hall and Chadwick Boyd to not only make biscuits, but also teach us ways we can all improve our biscuit game. Hall made buttermilk biscuits from her most recent cookbook, “Soul Food: Everyday and Celebration” and Boyd blended recipes to make a savory biscuit using sage, honey and carrots. On this week's podcast, dining editor Ligaya Figueras and contributor Wendell Brock will talk about the dishes they're craving.
Sophie visits an efficient, edible garden that feeds a family and provides a connection to culture.

On this episode of AAWW Radio we hear from New York Times Hungry City columnist Ligaya Mishan, Number One Chinese Restaurant author Lilian Li, and Curry: Eating, Reading, and Race author Naben Ruthnum. They read from their work and have a conversation with writer and chef Rohan Kamicheril about "authentic" food, the power dynamics of cultural appropriation, and the role of food as a cultural gateway. Shout out to MSG.
Ligaya Mishan is the author of the New York Times' "Hungry City" column, where she reviews New York's "great, unsung" restaurants. Her career has taken her from an MFA in poetry to writing book reviews for the New Yorker to her current job, where she tells the stories of immigrants and entrepreneurs through the food that they serve. Join us as we talk about how someone who grew up eating spam and frozen peas now reviews restaurants serving food from dozens of countries, and as we grapple with questions of authenticity in the food industry.
