In its June issue, Club + Resort Business released its annual rankings of the top racquet facilities. The racquet facilities at The Philadelphia Cricket Club in Philadelphia, Pa. earned the No. 1 ranking in C+RB's recognition program. In this episode of Club + Resort Talks, C+RB Senior Editor Phil Keren spoke with Boris Fetbroyt, the club's Director of Racquets, Rich Wade, the club's Director of Squash and Padel, and Lila Smith, the club's Director of Communications, to learn more about The Philadelphia Cricket Club. The trio discussed what it meant to them to receive the honor, how important the member experience is to the club, and what they do to keep members engaged and interacting with one another. In addition to an informative discussion with Fetbroyt, Wade and Smith, Phil also spoke with Club + Resort Business Editor Rob Thomas about some of the latest news stories happening in the industry. Phil and Rob discussed the story which grabbed headlines throughout the world this week: the PGA Tour, LIV Golf Tour and DP World Tour are planning to join forces in a partnership under a separate commercial entity. Phil and Rob shared their thoughts about this new deal and touched on how it might affect the club industry. They also talked about C+RB's recently completed Ideas issue, which can now be viewed at clubandresortbusiness.com and is now available in print. Some of the stories in the 17th Annual Ideas Issue include: Champions Run in Omaha, Neb. hosting a variety of games and activities at its pool every day under the title “The Show”; and employees at the Club at Admirals Cove in Jupiter, Fla. performing service projects such as a beach clean-up, school supply drive and food sorting at a food bank.

Lila Smith is a Coach, Business Consultant, & Speaker/Workshop Leader. This is the first part of a 2-episode story. The conversation was so good that I could not find anything to cut.Lila used to think that being a professional actress would be the best way to use her love of storytelling to make a difference that mattered in the world. After spending 20 years training and 10 years professionally performing to great acclaim in NYC and around the US, she still felt there was more. More connection, more honesty, and more impact to be had.She didn’t want to just tell one fictional story at a time. She wanted to tell the stories that were happening behind the scenes of the onstage creative work. She wanted to use the tools designed to help actors communicate with intention and give them to people who were struggling to do so with clarity in real life. That’s why she created Say Things Better, a 5-Step method of Intentional Communication. She now travels around the world helping people and brands to tell your real stories in a way that really connects. That provides a framework for accountability and partnership before you ever try to “sell” anything. It’s the simplest, easiest, and most consistent method of making your message clear, and connecting it to the person who really needs to hear it. And it’s how Lila Smith saves the world. In addition to her own methodology, Lila is also the world’s only Certified YouMap®Coach who specializes in communication. This means her own Say Things Better work as a messaging consultant and communication coach gets a fast-forward jump start for all clients who opt-into working in both programs. YouMap® provides the self-awareness clients need to communicate with, about, and because of your values and your value. Say Things Better connects that message sustainably, permanently, and directly to the hearts of the people who need what you offer most.Making the most of her own YouMap®, her values for storytelling and community building, and the Say Things Better Method, Lila has quickly built an international following of over 30k Communicators on LinkedIn. Her goal is to make sure each one of them (and everyone they know) is empowered with the tools to communicate well when it is most important. As this is the last episode of the year, it’s an opportune time to take a look at some of the highlights from the podcast during 2020. I’d love to share all the episodes with you, but that feels a little excessive, so I strung together some memorable moments, some marketing genius and of course, some actional knowledge. But as always, starting with a random opener, I think my fav answer came at the start of this month when Lila Smith was on the podcast and I asked her, what her favourite line from a musical was. Website Thingy: www.marketingstudylab.co.uk The Professional Bit: https://www.linkedin.com/in/petersumpton/ Facebook Community: https://www.facebook.com/groups/marketingstudylab/ Tweet Tweet: https://twitter.com/cousinp81 Intro We can get so caught up in our own business, what it does, what it delivers and how great it is, we can often forget that the way and how we communicate can have a huge effect on someone’s perception of you and your organisation. They say first impressions count, but that doesn’t mean we forget about the second, third or hundredth impression! Every time we interact with our clients, prospects and employees we need to be mindful of the way we communicate, what we are saying and how we are saying it and there is no better person to take us through this topic than Lila Smith (probably the nicest person on the internet). Lila is the creator of ‘Say Things Better’, an Intentional Communication method based on her previous life in the theatre, helping people to, well, say things better. And if you think about it, this makes so much sense, who better to help us with what we are trying to say, understand an audience - what they want and learning to take note of ques and listen to what others are saying! In this episode we cover; - The Say Things Better methodology? - Making sure you resonate with others? - Tips on staying quiet and listening? - How to use different media to communicate Now this podcast episode doesn’t start with the usual question as the start of the video recording was worth sharing on the podcast. Enjoy as we take a look at effectively communicating with Lila Smith. Watch the episode video: https://youtu.be/3yOhgbLrTC0 Takeaways Top Tip Lila says that you need to focus on being present, be in the moment, not in the future or the past, but to understand what is happening now. After all, it’s the only thing we can have any level of control over Favourite Quote ‘listen for intent, not content’, which is hugely powerful. It can help to make us more attentive, more engaged and of course – intentional in our actions. And Finally, the Most Important Takeaway from this Episode Is one of the most important things to remember whenever you’re communicating, with family, in business or to a client. Don’t forget your audience! You audience will have an impact on how we communicate and understanding things from their perspective will help us to Say Things Better. This is Episode 22 of the VulnerABLE Podcast! From wanting control of everything and making her own rules as a child. To completely letting go and learning how you say things makes all the difference. Now she's teaching others how to Say Things Better! When she was a kid, she had opinions about everything. She would learn new boardgames and immediately come up with "better" rules. By "better," she thought, "more fun!" But friends who wanted to play the way they knew how would sometimes get upset. This began a path of her realizing that the way we communicate makes a big difference, and that "better" is only "better" if it makes everyone feel good. To this day she’s still learning and growing, and even considers herself a big kid. Her career in theatre is taught her so much about cooperation and letting go of control. Starting her own business a couple of years ago would be one of the scariest moments in her life. Then, shortly after, she’d take another big risk in uprooting her life from New York to Dallas, continuing to push her own limits. Now she’s training people to Say Things Better, which is the name of her company. Helping individuals and companies harness the power of Intentional Communication. Ladies and gentlemen, it’s time to get vulnerable with Lila Smith. Lila Smith is the Director of Communications and E-Commerce at DNA Footwear. But she's also: - LinkedIn Influencer - Super nice person - LinkedIn Local Co-Host in NYC - Master Networker - My Favourite person on LinkedIn. One time Lila told me that her brother got her a reminder once, that said: "You can't make everyone happy, you're not a Taco". Lila isn't a Taco. But damn it I've never met anyone who comes as close as her. Her Taco style pays off too, her LinkedIn videos always get thousands of engagements (Likes+ comments+shares). There aren't many people who can boast of numbers like that. She's one of those rare people who became an influencer by the sheer power of niceness and networking. (But let's not forget she's extremely clever and hardworking too). My whole #TMFLinkedInsChallenge was about me trying to get people to be more Lila. I believe Lila's whole way of being should be seen as a prime example of how to treat each other on the internet. She makes people feel warm and fuzzy inside. But she won't hesitate to come up for herself or her friends. I really hope to meet Lila in real life one day. Here's what we'll talk about: - How to Network - How to master LinkedIn like a human - Business Culture - LinkedIn Local. - Taco Style Kung-Fu It's truly an honour to have her on the show. Much Love, Stapho Thienpont

It's tiiiiiiiiiiiiiime for another episode of the TMF Picnic! As you've realised by now, I only invite people that I really really like. Matter of fact, I've accused myself of using the Picnic as a cheap excuse to hang out with hard to reach people. I've spent the whole week applying some techniques I learned from Lila Smith last week. Every week I learn. And I'm, sure this week won't be any different. So, what about Jeannette? What do I like about her so much? I could start with the obvious: - She's coached more than 100 entrepreneurs. - She was interviewed by Charlie Price himself for her incredible Instagram prowess. (I paid to see that and it was worth every penny) - I've seen her kill it as a team member on multiple projects. - She Grew her Facebook group Dream Team Instagram Secrets at a staggering pace. But that's all superficial "she gets results" stuff. Here's what really made me reach out to her: She combines marketing with the spiritual. That's right, she doesn't just talk about getting big on Instagram. She doesn't just talk about personal branding. She talks about how to do all that but maintain a healthy mind and body at the same time. I haven't spoken about this publicly. But later on, I want to work more around Social Media and mental health. I think Social Media can be wonderfully healthy, but it can be poisonous as well. And I want to help people make it healthy for them. Jeannette shares this passion, so I'm sure we're gonna reach a new level of understanding. I'm excited about this one! Much Love, Stapho Thienpont

Lila Smith used to think that being a professional actress would be the best way to use her love of storytelling to make a difference that mattered in the world. More connection, more honesty, and more impact to be had- offstage, in real life. Education, cognitive behavior, psychology, entrepreneurship and emotional intelligence, are the topics I discuss with this week's guest Martina Witter. On this episode of Awake and on Purpose, Jennifer sits down with Lila Smith, a communication coach who is focused on helping businesses foster more connective communication. Jennifer and Lila dive into Lila’s journey to purpose and how she created a thriving Linkedin community utilizing her own communication techniques. Lila also discusses how intentional gratitude exercises and the YouMap® assessment revealed a deeper understanding of her skills and talents. Lila Smith is the mission-motivated Creator of the Say Things Better Method of Intentional Communication. Her work uses tools she learned in theater to make communication more connective. She travels around the world as a speaker and workshop leader, she runs a Mastermind group, and does 1:1 Say Things Better and YouMap® coaching. But she wasn't always doing this work and she didn't always know what her mission was supposed to be. Her awakening occurred over about a year of building community on LinkedIn, learning about her YouMap®, and being receptive to messages that called her to a higher purpose than she was fulfilling either in acting or in her e-commerce career. Once Lila's eyes were opened to the gifts she had to share with the world, there was no going back.

Awkward Acting with Lila Smith: Say Things Better
With a background in acting, Lila Smith has learned not only how to say things with more flair, but also to help you use your words to "Say Things Better" as you will learn about in this episode. Ever feel like you're playing a character? Maybe your words don't feel like your own. Maybe your whole life feels like someone else wrote it. Well, we aren't characters, but we can use human character analysis tools (like YouMap®) to remember who we are or discover ourselves for the first time. She did. Then she realized- more than one tool works offstage. Story visualization motivates us. Improv teaches collaboration. Stanislavsky's System clarifies objectives. Meisner's work makes good listeners. Adler's “Actioning” names HOW we make others feel. Forakis' OTOA organizes our thoughts. Actually, everything that creates dramatic conflict can be reverse engineered to create connection! So Lila did that, creating the Say Things Better Method of Intentional Communication. Today, her highly interactive workshops have earned rave reviews from partners like Merck, Acuity Brands, the Dallas Mavericks, the University of Miami, Zoho, and Fannie Mae. Tabitha (Trent) Cavanagh and Judi Fox discuss colon cancer, advice you would give your 18 year old self, and we talk about mindset, facing your fears, and overall have a great heartfelt conversation. 3:00 - LOTS and I mean lots of laughs. We spend the first 10 minutes talking about critical life moments that define you and being a colon cancer survivor. Plus Tabitha's Hashtags are the best! #savethebooty #grittogreatness #TabTheRecruiter Then we dive into topics like cold calling and how to overcome that fear. What is the worst thing that someone could say to you? Do you want to be called by recruiters? 12:00 - Level up with a conversation about networking, job searching, recruiters, flexible job arrangements, and active listening to available opportunities in your career. We both agree that asking for permission is a challenge to overcome at workplaces and there needs to be more FUN in the workplace. Plus we have tons of one-liners, Thrive Hard, Actions Speak Louder than Words, we completely botch the title of the book Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus (we kept the conversation kid friendly), and we do flashlight finger puppets on the wall in the hotel room at the end and record an IG story. 38:00 - There is an goose bump spontaneous moment where we play a game called: "Voice Message Roulette" You have got to hear what Tabitha said in a voice message to me on August 4, 2018 at 10:11 AM. “Every time the time was right all the words just came out wrong.” Has this ever happened to you? You’re speaking with a person who could change your life, but you just can’t find the words to say what you want to say. If you’re a musician, like Jim Croce, you might break into song and save the moment. The rest of us have to learn to Say Things Better. Meet Lila Smith. Lila is the Creator of #SayThingsBetter, a Strategic Communication Mentor for Tech Startups, and a much in demand global public speaker. Yes, she is a bit of a word geek, but Lila is not your average shy librarian. She’s a trained actress who spent many years working on the stage. Now you might be asking, what does communication have to do with acting? But then, if you’re like me, you stop and realize that communication is the essence of acting. In this episode Lila shares with us the approach she uses to help entrepreneurs say things better. You’re going to be shocked at the simplicity of it. She talks about one of the unexpected impact of her decision to start her own business and move to Dallas Texas, and that is the strains that it's put on her relationships with family and friends. And if you want to see Lila in action, stick around to the end. Lila actually coaches me through an exercise to bring clarity to my own communication. (Free coaching. Yea!).
