Hey Redesigners and welcome to another episode of Women Over 50 - A Life Redesigned. I am your host Shelly Drymon and this is the podcast where I have conversations with women over 50 who are in the world doing amazing things, and busting through the stereotypes of what it means to be a woman over 50 today. My guest today is Susan Haworth. Susan has been providing counseling, coaching and consulting for four decades with a host of clients and customers in a variety of settings on both the East and West Coasts. You can find out more about Susan and grab here book on her https://www.cambioscoaching.com/ (website. ) After receiving her B.A. in Psychology and M.Ed. in Community Counseling, Susan worked in mental health facilities in Atlanta, GA providing counseling to adult substance abusers and adolescents and their families.  Taking a sabbatical from direct service, Susan segued her career into managing social service programs. When the 80's hit, Susan headed back to school and earned an M.S. in Management which she parlayed into a corporate training and consulting business.  As the principal of her consulting practice, Susan provided communication skills training programs and individual coaching for Fortune 500 companies and their managers. Being in the epicenter of technology (the San Francisco Bay Area), Susan seized another opportunity to reinvent herself.  In 2017, she decided to go world-wide by providing coaching and consulting via Skype. Cambios (changes in Spanish) Coaching and Consulting seemed like the ideal moniker under which to operate. Changes are what Susan's life has been about as she moved from coast to coast; married, divorced and remarried; wrangled with single parenting and step-parenting; changed careers; made new friends and continues to turn things inside out. Join our off Facebook community! Kate is a coach who combines storytelling with coaching to empower women in the workplace.  Stories are a brilliant way of taking yourself slightly out of the emotional centre and regarding it from a distance. It really helps to see the situation more clearly. Kate grew up in a theatre family. Her grandfather was an émigré from Poland who started a theatre as a business venture and there they all stayed. Kate's dad and uncle ran repertory and commercial theatres. Her mum was an actress. Her sister is a theatre company manager, and her husband an actor and her daughter a theatre director. Kate worked in stage management in repertory theatre for five years then moved to London where she fell into work by luck with the National Theatre and her first job was on a Harold Pinter play with Sir John Gielgud and Sir Ralph Richardson. She worked at the National Theatre, Old Vic, Young Vic and then in musicals. On the 20th Century, Barnum, Camelot, Phantom and latterly at Les Miserables while her twins were small. She was there for nearly 5 years. Company managed the 10th anniversary concert at the Albert Hall and later show called the 25th anniversary concerts of Les Mis and Phantom. The way you think affects the way you behave, affects the way you feel, affects the outcome. The thoughts changes. The behavior changes, the feeling changes, and it changes the outcome, and it is actually that simple. ~ KateFor more information about Kate check out her http://katesalberg.co.uk/ (website.) But having been raised by a single mom, “starving artist” was not an attractive career, so she chose to pursue another track and was a first-generation college student. After earning a Bachelor of Journalism and working in both reporting and public relations in college, she enjoyed a career in a myriad of roles: writing, editing, corporate communications, branding, political campaigns, and finally a VP at a public affairs consulting firm. Marriage and motherhood then took center stage, as she raised three busy red-headed children and managed the family enterprise. She, nevertheless, continued to use her skills in ways outside the family, from founding a mom's group, to serving in church leadership, to creating and teaching a middle school musical theater group. An habitual do-it-yourselfer, Neeahtima is known to design and sew an evening gown, refinish furniture, install landscaping, or build out an entire unfinished room. They often see things in a moral context — and that's a vital balance to the competitive systems that tend to drive too many decisions. Key Messages: How can women push back against systematic gaslighting, pushbacks, and denial? By learning to take the space and time to be heard. There are ways to do it without direct confrontation that are powerful and effective.  https://annettesimmons.com/ (Annette Simmons) a keynote speaker, consultant, and author of four books, including The Story Factor, listed in The 100 Best Business Books of All Time. If you have a limiting belief, beliefs that is putting the pedal on the brake, you know, it's like having the pedal on, on fast forward and went on the brake. It just doesn't work. Right. That's the first concept. Then the second concept for me is like a subconscious mind is like that huge warehouse. Where everything is stored, everything you've heard, you've seen, you felt you intuition everything, the red flags, but that never necessarily all came to your conscious mind because you would go crazy if everything would come to your conscious mind.~ Janylene   The beliefs about change are very important. Previously I had walked from the fridge to the sofa and back multiple times. I considered camping to be a loathsome pursuit. Hiking was something one did for a few hours before rounding off the day with a hot chocolate and an even hotter bath. I came back to the UK, did my quarantine, then set about writing a book about my endeavors. Memorable Quotes "We put ourselves down instead of just accepting a compliment and saying, thank you. We'll just react. And actually that's the easiest way to find out if someone's got insecurity issues. I've had to really train myself or someone gives me a confident, I just say, thank you. ~ Person Irresponsible  “There's still this sort of petulant immature. When she finds herself flummoxed by a problem, she figures out how to work through it, then shares the process to empower others in similar situations. This pattern is the one through line in a dizzying variety of careers—guitar teacher, food writer, health educator, computer geek/tech writer, feng shui teacher and color consultant. Joy is the author of The Cherry Pie Paradox: The Surprising Path to Diet Freedom and Lasting Weight Loss, is based on Joy's revolutionary workshop program, Thin Within. She created it in 1975* to deal with her own weight struggles, then shared this framework for self-discovery with hundreds of others in the San Francisco Bay Area, giving participants the tools they could adapt to their own circumstances. The book steps the reader through a sequential process with personal stories, writing prompts, guided meditations, and eating/tasting exercises. Joy has a Bachelors degree in Music from Wellesley College, a Masters degree in Public Health from the University of California, Berkeley, and has yet to stop taking classes or trainings. Currently she sees clients for personal color analyses from her condo in downtown Portland Oregon. For more about that: visit www.ColorStylePDX.com. Her articles and essays have been published in The New York Times, Working Mother, Parents, HealthStep, Readers Digest, Computer Currents, The San Francisco Chronicle and others. During the pandemic she began a weekly newsletter, “Alive! with Joy,” to cheer and encourage her readers to engage their own curiosity in seeking joy amidst life's challenges. At her author website, www.joyoverstreet.com, you can download a juicy excerpt from The Cherry Pie Paradox, subscribe to her newsletter, and learn about special events or offerings related to the book. The book will be released in print, ebook and audiobook format in September. *I sold the business to my partner in 1980 and have been a serial entrepreneur ever since.  Thin Within became an evangelical Christian program after I left…nothing like my original program. In this episode we chat about why, and what steps you can take as a woman over 50 to secure your financial future. Dr. Barbara Provost, Founder of Purse Strings LLC, was tired of seeing women consistently overlooked by financial organizations and the impact of financial decisions not made in her best interest. Not only is this buying power being ignored for lack of tailoring to women, but this powerful demographic is also underserved and under-planned for her financial future, thereby spending retirement years cobbling jobs together to pay her bills. All that ends with Purse Strings. Now, women can come to the table with confidence and competence. PurseStrings.co provides access to free online tools and professional resources to learn what she needs to know to make the right financial decisions for herself and her family. Moreover, Purse Strings, LLC promotes a top-tier cadre of Purse Strings Approved Financial Professionals who have been trained and vetted to serve the female market. Our mission is for all women to be financially fearless!
