Today on episode 61 I'm pleased to welcome Heather Larsen, pro slackliner and climber and lover of southern Utah's desert heat. What is probably less known about Heather is that, following humble beginnings, she graduated at the height of the Great Recession with a double major in finance and economics. In the intervening years, she struggled greatly to find work in her field, even competing for bank teller jobs with 20-year finance veterans. Out west she found work in seasonal park service positions, growing more and more fond of the outdoors, eventually discovering climbing and slacklining.Heather could have easily fallen into a mindset of defeat. But with persistence, she was eventually able to secure a career in financial reporting, enabling her preferred lifestyle balance of elite outdoor adventure and self-made financial security. Arapahoe Basin is a legendary ski resort in Colorado, and when it's a powder day, skiers wake up at the crack of dawn to get up the hill for those fresh tracks. That's exactly what Richard Dempsey did, except he only got a few runs in before everything changed. Richard is able to recount his story thanks to a slackliner named Mickey Wilson who risked his own life to save someone he met that morning. We also speak to author and retired ski patroller Patti Burnett about what dangers to look out for while skiing at resorts and in the backcountry, as well as what to do if you find yourself or someone else in an emergency situation while enjoying the mountains in wintertime. For more information on this episode or to share your own story, visit OnStar's website.
Is the idea that big retail is dead by 2030 a commonly held belief or will retail have evolved so significantly that it will get over get over the hump of e-commerce, near infinite choices for consumers, and the desire to get everything within fifteen to thirty minutes from when it was ordered. This is the new world of commerce by 2030 for every one of us, according to our guest Michael Lagoni, the CEO of Slackline. How companies react to this in the next few years will define if they are around in 2030 to take advantage of this world.Lagoni's view is that the data scientist will make over 80% of all product marketing decisions by 2030 as if they were hedge fund managers on Wall Street; the building never realized niche market opportunities in near real-time. This is a radically different world of choice as consumers transact nearly everything on the phone and one where brands and product managers have to focus on cultivating a direct relationship far more than they do now.

Anna Hanuš Kuchařová, architektka a profesionální slaclinerka, přijala pozvání do podcastu #nastavdUŠI. This week on The Roe Show, I sit down with Mickey Wilson, veteran Slackline expert and extreme athlete. We discuss the sport and how to learn it, the equipment used and how to compete. He has some alarming stories and some great insights as well. Towards the end we talk about the future of this niche sport and compare it to some of the more classical sports. We have a look into the pros and cons of each sport, traditional versus freestyle, so if you're looking to learn about another great freestyle sport, this is the podcast for you. I first met Mickey a few years ago when we were performing for a client in the middle east and he even tried to teach me to slackline! Mickey has competed at numerous slackline competitions since 2011 and is currently ranked 11th in world in tricklining by the World Slackline Federation. He landed the first ever double backflip dismount, and was the first to land a backflip to chest bounce in competition. He was also the second person to land a 'Luke Skywalker' on a highline. His longest slackline send stands at 500 feet (152 m) and his longest highline send is 230 feet (70 m on sight!). Mickey is also an avid skier, whitewater kayaker and climber. He has his skydiving "A" license and he plans to work toward base jumping and eventually base jumping from highlines! Mickey was also called a hero when he rescued a man caught hanging from his neck by his backpack in a ski lift accident in 2017. The man almost certainly would have died were it not for the heroics of Mickey, who appeared on 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show,' in 2017 to talk about the daring rescue. Balance is in our DNA. The act of walking on a rope or a line has been around for well over 22,000 years and in this solocast episode, I look back into the past, present the present, and peer into the future. From the tight rope, the highwire, the slack chain, the slackline, and the highline there is a rich story of redefining limitations and pushing what it means to be a human being. This episode shows that we have come from a rich history of cultures and humans to be where we are in the sport of slacklining and we are in the very beginning of what the sport will be for generations to come! This episode is an outpouring of love and possibility from my heart to yours. May it find you in a state of bliss, expansion, and joy. Enjoy, in joy.Send the podcast to someone you love! Justin Wagers returns to the podcast! He is coming into this episode having completed his new film Lines Between Us. The movie spotlights different styles of slacklining and the community of athletes that each discipline creates. I had the privilege to sit down with Justin and watch Lines Between Us before we dropped in for this conversation. In this podcast, we communicate about the work that goes into making a film, his evolution as a film maker, the longevity of telling stories, testing your limitations outside of your comfort zone, and many of the philosophical lessons that have come from the slackline. This conversation is full of insight from the lens of a pioneer and it is an honor to share it with you. Share this conversation with Justin and I with someone you feel will connect with it! Kieran Blood is one of the best highliners in the world. He holds the US record for longest highline walk and is creating new variations of the sport with his own unique style. At only 21 years old Kieran has a really bright future in slacklining and whatever else he chooses to pick up in his life. In this episode we talk about his mentality on the line from trying the hardest, having a smile through discomfort and adversity, as well as seeking new discomfort to create more comfort. Kieran loves to create, innovate, and be playfully mischievous. We recollect the story of us rigging a highline at midnight in the name of Slack Life and sticking up for our right to play. The head games of walking big highlines, long term vision for getting more dialed and having more fun, and how practice simply makes better. I love this kid so much and it was an honor to drop in with him in Dean's Cave. Enjoy this episode with Kieran Blood. Lots of big shifts coming this month from a new cacao sponsor, the opportunities that Fit For Service is offering me, and taking a 6 week long hiatus from releasing podcast to record new ones and create a truly dope solocast. Kristen Gershkoff is a powerful slackliner, sweet soul, and humble crusher. In this podcast, we drop in about her story, her experience with slacklining and getting connected with the slacklife. How the highline enveloped her heart and became a tool for her to deeper understand herself, connect with community, and eventually get into van life. She shares the experience of ripping apart her van to make it her own and her most memorable experiences in the sport thus far. Kristen has a huge heart that exudes loving kindness. It is felt big time in this episode and the way she shows up in her life.In my opinion this episode was cut a little too short. At the time, we were highlining out in Moab and I was just running through recording episodes and experimenting with short simple podcasts. On further reflection, it could have been a bit longer because Kristen has such a wonderful energy and there is so much of her story still left untouched. No doubt we will drop in again for a podcast when the flow brings us back together. Until then, enjoy this short and sweet episode with Kristen!Lots of exciting news that I will wait until next week to share with you all. So much love
In his first appearance on the podcast, Max Ross is coming in one deeper with some straight hot fire. Max opens up about his story through capturing urban exploring to climbing and eventually diving into slacklining. We talk about his vision for the sport, the impact he wants to have in it, how he desires to see more bridges created between the global community, and some of his inspirations in the sport. I thoroughly enjoyed sitting down with Max to shoot this podcast may you find as much enjoyment in listening and receiving it as I did in creating it.My morning routine and recalibration course comes out on January 31st and spots are limited. In this episode of the podcast, I welcome my soul brother Jim Galli! In this episode, Jim shares his life story from being born in France to moving to the United States at a young age. He shares his love for skateboarding and how that translated into an eventual love for slacklining. We riff on slacklife, giving back with the slackline, it's availability to everyone, and an exploration of what's possible. Jim shares the challenges and fears that have arisen for him with the sport and the positivity it has also brought into his life. In my opinion, the worst part of this podcast is that it's not long enough. With that being said, Jim will be back on the podcast soon enough and without further ado, Jim Galli everyone. In this episode, I sit down with my dear friend Catie May. Catie is a built badass from her childhood with yoga and flow, to her dedication to personal mastery and cultivating new skills. Catie and I talk about her yogic path, slacklining, outdoor adventures, a near death experience that helped her release self limiting beliefs, and how she has continued to grow through challenge. Catie shares a lot of compassion, kindness, and vulnerability in this podcast. It was an absolute pleasure to have her on. In this podcast, I drop in conversation with my soul brother Lorenzo Demuro. Lo and I first met on a backpacking trip through Zion and it was a expansive connection right from the get go. Since then, he has become a true brother of mine and has pushed my limitations in ways beyond just the slackline. In this episode, we talk about stoke, flow, base jumping, highlining, and learning through fear. Share this episode with someone that needs to hear it! Thank you for listening and spending your time tuned into my medicine, I love you.
