I had the esteemed pleasure of interviewing Director and writer Kyle Perritt to discuss his new and upcoming thriller, "Robbie Ain't Right No More" (2023) starring the talented Madeleine McGraw (The Black Phone) who portrays the younger sister to Robbie. Although there is no direct message to be conveyed by the director for this film, it's aimed to show that the main protagonist shows signs of great disturbance when he returns home from war. The movie will make it's premiere this fall ahead of its December 1, 2023 release. The film will make its debut at a number of acclaimed festivals including Screamfest in Los Angeles (October 10-19), Telluride Horror Show (October 13-15), Provo Utah's Film Quest (October 26-Nov 4), and Toronto After Dark (October 18-22). Kyle Perritt is a United States Marine Veteran and I would love to thank him for his service and undying dedication for recognizing post traumatic stress disorder which is considered a serious mental illness. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/southjerseyhorror/message

Today's guest is a passionate hospitality leader with more than 25 years of experience in growing hospitality brands and nurturing successful partnerships in more than 70 countries around the world. Daniel del Olmo is the President & Chief Operating Officer of Sage Hotel Management. Daniel stopped by to preview the upcoming Independent Lodging Congress!   Takeaways:  The 2022 Independent Lodging Congress is being held at the Line Hotel in Los Angeles from October 11th-13th. The link to register is included below.  The welcome cocktail will be held at the newly opened Hotel Per La on the first day of the Independent Lodging Conference. What sets the ILC apart from other hospitality industry conferences is that it feels more like a community than a typical conference. Instead of standard presentations, the ILC is about bringing like-hearted people together to share their diverse experiences. From its inception, ILC has brought together many different points of inspiration from both inside and outside the hospitality industry. This basis is still felt today and it's hard not to be inspired by the varied perspectives on display. The ILC highlights the extended family of the hospitality world by featuring all of the disciplines that interact with hospitality, like music, art, culture, etc. If you're on the fence about going to ILC, ask yourself when was the last time that you felt inspired by going to a conference. Also, set some goals for yourself and your company and see how many of them overlap with those of people attending ILC.   Quote of the Show: 2:19 “In the case of ILC, I've always found that it's a platform that brings together people that are like-hearted, different minded, and with a whole slew of different experiences and perspectives”   Links: If you plan to go to The Independent Lodging Congress in Los Angeles October 11-13, use “DefiningHospitality” when checking out and save 10%. The state of California and governor Gavin Newsom signed into law SB8 and SB9 which will attempt to eliminate single family zoning in residential neighborhoods to increase density during a housing shortage crisis. The laws state that an owner can build up to 4 units on a Single family lot. Does this mean they can build 4 units in Beverly Hills and Brentwood park? It's not clear and convoluted at best as local zoning rules will come into play in each community and you can expect significant legal conflicts to jam up the court system as developers, residents, activists and politicians will battle it out in the months and years to come to establish legal precedents in different communities and which will clearly create mass confusion and more obstacles and loop holes to contend with. Jersey” Short Film to Compete at 16th Annual LA Femme International Film Festival Short to serve as proof of concept for potential series LOS ANGELES – October 7h , 2020 -- The comedic short “Jersey”, written by Margaret M. Spirito and directed by and starring Lisa Ann Walter will screen at the 16th Annual LA Femme International Film Festival on Saturday, October 17th, 6PM on the CYA.Live platform. A Q&A with Spirito, Walter and co-star, Valerie Tosi, will follow. The film centers around best friends Maria (Valerie Tosi) and Lorelei (Mayan Lopez) who escaped the drama of their New Jersey families by moving to sunny Los Angeles. The drama finds them, however, when Maria's crass mother, Tess (Walter), and spoiled older brother, Nick (Vinny Fasline), celebrate Easter with Maria and Lorelei on the west coast. Maria finds it hard to bite her tongue at Tess's ignorance, while Lorelei attempts to play buffer between mother and daughter. After a dinner full of baby boomer judgement and millennial clapbacks, things take an exciting turn when Tess accidentally mistakes the girls' chocolate edibles for Easter dessert, turning what Maria was hoping to be a chill California holiday into a Jersey shit storm. Once the storm settles, Maria and Tess find themselves able to confront the obvious tension that exists between them, proving the age old theory almost all women can relate to: there’s family you love, family you hate…..and then there’s your mother. Writer/producer Spirito is a singer, actress, writer and producer originally from New Jersey. Her big, belty voice brought her all over the world, performing in shows such as the National Tour of “Jesus Christ Superstar” and international productions pf “Shout”, “And the World Goes Round” and “Smokey Joe’s Café”. In Los Angeles, she spent years performing with the critically acclaimed FOR THE RECORD series in several of their productions, in addition to producing/writing/performing her own shows, “The Sounds of Dirty Jersey” and “Amy Winehouse, One Year Later”. In addition to her work on stage, Margaret is an accomplished writer, her love being half-hour television comedy. Actress/director Walter is an accomplished stand up comedian and actress, most recognized for her work in the “The Parent Trap”, “Bruce Almighty”, and “Shall We Dance.” She also created the network shows “Life’s Work and Dance Your Ass Off”. In addition to her work as an actress and Executive Producer, Walter is a successful author and a favorite among radio listeners for her hit radio show “The Fabulous Lisa Ann Walter Show” that was on air from 2011-2014. The LA Femme International Film Festival is now in its 16th year as one of Los Angeles’ premiere film festivals dedicated to celebrating and promoting female artists both in front of and behind the camera. In addition to bestowing awards in multiple categories, from short subjects to documentaries to commercials, LA Femme is proud to present this year’s Lupe Ontiveros Image Award to a performer who embodies the spirit, audacity and dedication to art that its namesake represented. This year’s Ontiveros honoree will be actress/producer Shari Belafonte.

LOS ANGELES – October 8, 2020 -- “The New Abolitionists,” a documentary by actress/producer Christina Zorich, tracks her journey as she follows committed abolitionists throughout Southeast Asia as they attempt to affect change and put an end to human sex trafficking. The film will screen on Sunday, October 18th, at 2PM at the (virtual) LA Femme International Film Festival, with a Q and A to follow. In the course of the film, Zorich tracks the trajectories of the Christian ministries and NGO’s (non-government organizations) who save children and teens entrapped and enslaved in the sex trade throughout Cambodia and Thailand. They educated her on the causes and conditions that led to the blossoming of this criminal industry, the government’s complicity, and the structure they used to solve the problem: Rescue, Rehabilitation, Prosecution and Prevention. Heartbreaking stories ensue of young people of both sexes, many betrayed by close family members who sell them off to traffickers for financial gain.

You’ve likely heard of redlining - the practice of systematizing discrimination based on where you live. You’ve probably even heard us talk about the ways its legacy continues to impact the upward mobility of communities of color. But do you know what happened next? In the wake of urban uprisings in the late 1960s, politicians pushed to end redlining, to lift people up out of poverty and improve their lives by making homeownership attainable. But that’s not what happened. Instead, bad policy and the private market worked together to create a machine that churned out new ways to exploit black homeowners. It’s what Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor describes as predatory inclusion in her new book, “Race for Profit”. In it, she describes the ways in which policy, race, and institutional forces came together to reinscribe segregation. What an honor to look at her life!   And then finally, to round off this deep-felt reverent earthy episode off, we sit down with the incredible tarot therapist and ritualistic, Tatianna Tarot.  If you don’t know Tatianna, you wanna stick around for this, she drops some mad truth bombs, and gives us such an incredible embodiment of what it means to be a bad ass working Virgo mama. In our conversation we cover topics such as: Connection to Health + Body as a Virgo Life as a working mom business owner Life as a Virgo Mother to a one-year old Libra Her relationship to her Pisces Father Enforcing the word “no” Living organically Identifying Orishas in the Tarot New Moon in Virgo Virgo's Connection to Onyx Why a Virgo is most likely to call a Cancer for help The Akashic records   ***And Special shoutouts to 'Holistic City Lyfe', Marcella Kroll, and 'Black Girl in Om' who we shout out during this covnersation.    ______________   And then a few ittle updates and announcements from me   I am leading a 12-week astrological immersion both online and in-person.  If you are interested in a deep dive into astrology, soul-centered astrology, and wanting to better understand the cycle of evolution, by carving out time each week, then this gathering is for you.
