Hello! And welcome back to The Dana Gould Hour Podcast. It's the dog days of summer and what better way to work through those hot summer days then to walk around in the heat holding a sign that says you want a fair deal from the people who work in the buildings behind you even though they're all on Martha's Vineyard at the moment?  Two fantastic guests today, my lordy. First off, a guy that I cannot believe that I know. He is in my favorite movie of all time, he has appeared repeatedly in one of my favorite TV shows, and he lived in my favorite city during one of its most fascinating periods. From Planet Of The Apes, and Dragnet and so much more, actor Lou Wagner is here.  Also, comedian and author Wayne Federman is here. In addition to being a fine comedian in his own right, Wayne is a comedy historian. He is the author of a terrific book called The History Of Stand Up, from Mark Twain To Dave Chapelle and he was also the producer of the fabulous two part HBO documentary George Carlin's American Dream, directed by Judd Appatow and Michael Bonfiglio, Wayne Federman is here.  True Tales From Weirdsville takes a deep dive into a famous L.A. murder that occurred right down the street from good old Falcon's lair Recording Studio, of course this was long before I got here, but our guest Lou Wagner was here. And although he's all alibi's up he's got some stories to share, so we'll give you some background to boot.

George Carlin wasn't just a comedian, he was one of the great American artists of the later half of the 20th-Century, and he was shaped by and interacted with the great events of his day with intelligence, wit, and an ever-adapting nature.  That's what co-director Michael Bonfiglio (with Judd Apatow) of  “George Carlin's American Dream” explains when he sat down with Mike. Bonfiglio's (producer of “Paradise Lost 2 & 3”, “Some Kind of Monster” & “The Zen Diaries of Gary Shandling”) film traces the “straight” comic of the 60s, the more personal and edgy comic of the 70's that we all know, and even the darker–but equally important, the film argues–comic of the 80s and 90s.  Michael and Mike discuss the roots of Carlin's comedy in his Catholic school childhood in Manhattan, the birth of his comedy career in Los Angeles, and the cocaine-fueled 70s.  Throughout, his wife Brenda and daughter Kelly stood by him, and despite his solitary nature, his comedy cohort inspired and challenged him.  “George Carlin's American Dream” is now playing on HBO.   Hidden Gem:  The Velvet Queen   Follow on twitter: @mbonfiglio2000 @topdocspod

To die, to sleep — perchance to be judged no longer viable in society and sentenced to burn alive from within. Who is truly avenged by our cocktails of untested heartstoppers? Justices: why did we stop, then start, doing this again?
