Myf and Zan are throwing a big bear hug around the Bang Fam with our best coping techniques in a rough time. Some choice words from Nick Cave have us high-fiving the prince of darkness, and a debrief with White Lotus writer/creator Mike White answers a lot of questions and begs a few more. Alex Lahey's impassioned plea to the PM to keep our music industry alive hits hard, while the conversation around celebrities bathing habits opens an absolute can of worms. And we're banging on about some incredible reads, short and long form, to take you into another place.   Show notes: Back to Nature: https://iview.abc.net.au/show/back-to-nature Myf's Instagram Reels: https://www.instagram.com/myfwarhurst Nick Cave on COVID and the vax: https://www.theredhandfiles.com/tell-us-about-hal-willner/ Mike White accepts the criticism: https://www.vulture.com/article/the-white-lotus-finale-mike-white-interview-departures-ending.html Nine Perfect Strangers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QvqujH6boEI&ab_channel=Hulu Alex Lahey open letter: https://www.abc.net.au/triplej/news/musicnews/alex-lahey-open-letter-scott-morrison-government-support-music/13498102 Do Celebrities Bathe?: https://www.salon.com/2021/08/17/celebrity-bathing-kutcher-kunis-gyllenhaal/ What Bobby McIlvaine Left Behind: https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2021/09/twenty-years-gone-911-bobby-mcilvaine/619490/ Leave the World Behind: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/50358031-leave-the-world-behind Rumaan Alam at MWF: https://mwf.com.au/program/rumaan-alam-leave-the-world-behind-071e/ Email us: bangon.podcast@abc.net.au   Bang On is recorded on the lands of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nation. Everyone's frothing on the social satire White Lotus and frankly we don't want it to end. Myf and Zan share some good news for fellow fans, and an insight into the music that makes the show. Meanwhile Dolly is telling more stories with the news of her debut novel; we're ready to tear into it. A new film based on the story of Amanda Knox's conviction and acquittal is about to come out, and the woman herself has thoughts on who gets to tell her story. And the five yearly Census has arrived, with some interesting questions and strange omissions. All hail Beyoncé, who has filled the fashun coiffeurs with some wild looks and denim chaps. Thank you Queen. And we're bringing Bang On live to South Australia for the first time! A new TV series on Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee’s whirlwind romance has Courtney Love calling bullshit, and us thinking about how we witness other people’s trauma as entertainment. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict continues, but it feels as though more people are publicly speaking out about it. We think about what has changed. A spirited defence of Keanu Reeves has us fist pumping, especially Myf who has had a front row seat to this screen angel’s chill vibe. And as the mercury drops across the nation, it’s Puffa season. But where did this shapeless cloud coat even come from. We explain. There’s a Cheugy update and it relates to NFT’s. Don’t worry, we’ll explain. We woke to a Facebook devoid of Australian news content, and so much more. Myf and Zan talk about how the social media giant is playing poker with the Australian government and frustrating it’s millions of local users and communities. Brittany Higgins’ allegations of rape within Parliament House have caused shockwaves across the country, and differing responses from our leaders. How do we value the women in our lives? And Justin Timberlake has publicly apologised to Britney Spears and Janet Jackson, following the airing of Framing Britney Spears. Meanwhile, a long read on if and how TikTok is flattening music has Zan jazzed, while Myf is looking to the future with other trends on the horizon. And yes, we’re celebrating the first denim fashion YES we’ve witnessed in months, after being bombarded by every Bang Fam member, while banging on about TV show Lupin, and podcast Tough Love.   Show notes: Facebook news ban: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-02-18/facebook-to-restrict-sharing-or-viewing-news-in-australia/13166208 Justin Timberlake apology: https://www.instagram.com/p/CLMxYbGhTno/ Amy Remeikis in the Guardian: https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2021/feb/17/trauma-like-mine-doesnt-have-a-gender-but-too-many-men-need-to-imagine-a-woman-they-love-to-feel-empathy Nothing is Flattening Music Like TikTok: https://www.vulture.com/2021/02/essay-drivers-license-tiktok-radio.html 20 predictions from trend forecasters: https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2021/feb/15/2020s-trend-predictions-forecasters-working-from-home-ai-climate High Waist Cut Out Straight Leg Jeans: https://twitter.com/yodaberg/status/1361266436287524866 Lupin: https://www.netflix.com/au/title/80994082 Tough Love: https://podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/linda-mariglianos-tough-love/id1546324192 Email us: Email us: bangon.podcast@abc.net.au   Bang On is recorded on the lands of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nation. It’s been a week for blokes with their hands down their pants! Rudy Giuliani has been caught in some compromising shots in the new Borat film, while US journalist Jeremy Toobin has dissolved the boundaries of working from home, in a Zoom meeting. Why are so many men coming to his defence? A beautiful long read on how we value our friendships has us reflecting on our own lifelong bonds, and NASA has landed on an asteroid this week. Cue: Aerosmith. Meanwhile Zan has just finished Craig Silvey’s new book Honeybee, while Myf is shock watching Norwegian drama series Exit on SBS.   Show notes: Rudy Giuliani and Borat: https://www.theguardian.com/film/2020/oct/21/rudy-giuliani-faces-questions-after-compromising-scene-in-new-borat-film Jeffrey Toobin: https://www.rollingstone.com/culture/culture-features/jeffrey-toobin-zoom-dick-incident-defense-1078166/ What if Friendship, Not Marriage, Was at the Center of Life: https://www.theatlantic.com/family/archive/2020/10/people-who-prioritize-friendship-over-romance/616779/ How Will We Tackle the Pandemic of Loneliness After Covid: https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2020/oct/16/how-will-we-tackle-the-pandemic-of-loneliness-after-covid NASA: https://www.nasa.gov/press-release/nasa-s-osiris-rex-spacecraft-successfully-touches-asteroid Honeybee: https://www.theguardian.com/books/2020/sep/25/honeybee-by-craig-silvey-review-a-tender-but-uncomfortable-coming-of-age-story Exit: https://www.sbs.com.au/ondemand/program/exit Email us: bangon.podcast@abc.net.au   Bang On is recorded on the lands of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nation. It’s been a big week in American politics and frankly, we gotta dive in. Love overtakes #ProudBoys, while a fifteen year old on TikTok becomes the voice of honesty out of the White House. An Idaho fella with a penchant for cranberry juice wins everyone over, including Mick Fleetwood. And Myf is binge watching Issa Rae's TV show Insecure, and hate-watching Emily in Paris. Meanwhile Zan discovers Myf has never seen an Attenborough nature doco, when she bangs on about his latest, "A Life On Our Planet". And we share memories of Eddie Van Halen, RIP.   Show notes: Twitter Flooded with Gay Pride: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-10-05/twitter-flooded-with-gay-pride-images-using-proudboys/12731894 Claudia Conway Isn’t Your Hermione: https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2020/10/kellyanne-conway-daughter-claudia-conway-isnt-your-hermione.html What To Make Of This Claudia Conway Business: https://www.vanityfair.com/style/2020/10/claudia-conway-tiktok-covid Why is Dreams Back in the Charts?: https://www.theguardian.com/culture/2020/oct/05/why-is-dreams-by-fleetwood-mac-back-in-the-charts-and-why-is-everyone-skateboarding-along-to-it Nathan Apodaca’s story: https://www.postregister.com/news/local/sudden-fame-that-almost-wasnt-nathan-apodaca-nearly-deleted-viral-video/article_d25efeea-f253-555f-a7d9-9f00acfe62a7.html Eddie Van Halen: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/10/06/arts/music/eddie-van-halen-dead.html Insecure: https://www.hbo.com/insecure/season-01 Emily in Paris: https://www.netflix.com/au/title/81037371 David Attenborough: A Life On Our Planet: https://www.netflix.com/au/title/80216393 Email us: bangon.podcast@abc.net.au Bang On is recorded on the lands of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nation. The death of a feminist icon has us reflecting on the power of song, and the impact her anthem had on the highest office in the land. Lizzo has made history on the cover of Vogue, and there’s a lot of feedback. We're also in awe of an incredible conversation between Michaela Coel and Donald Glover. The Emmy Awards happened on Zoom and we watched the highlights, how very 2020. We wrap the winners, the ground breakers, and the list of awards that – if anything – remind us of shows we might have missed. Not sure about Schitt's Creek yet? Myf explains why they took home the most gongs. Speaking of which, Rolling Stone have just updated their lengthy list of the 500 Best Albums of All Time. We have thoughts. An article on the wins of women’s midlife and misunderstanding of menopause has us questioning the narrative we’ve been told till now. If you’re hankering for Succession season 3, Zan has just the TV series for you, and we share a moving tribute to RBG - Ruth Bader Ginsburg - who passed away this week.   Show notes:  The 2020 Emmy Awards: https://www.vulture.com/article/2020-emmy-awards-ceremony-review.html Rolling Stone 500: https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-lists/best-albums-of-all-time-1062063/ A Weird Liberation: https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2020/sep/22/weird-liberation-women-wild-truth-midlife-menopause The Duchess: https://www.netflix.com/au/title/80223040 The Rise of the Murdoch Dynasty: https://iview.abc.net.au/show/rise-of-the-murdoch-dynasty RBG: https://iview.abc.net.au/show/rbg Email us: bangon.podcast@abc.net.au Bang On is recorded on the lands of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nation.
