In 1900, strange rock formations were found in the middle of Rock Lake, a lake directly bordering Lake Mills, and 4 miles from the ancient Native village of Aztalan. For well over a century, these formations have been debated by scientists and resarchers about who built them, how, and if they are manmade at all - or even extraterrestrial. Scott and Mickey discuss these possibilites, and get into a deeper discussion about the present-day popularity of alternative history shows, such as Ancient Aliens and the Curse of Oak Island, and whether this line of research not based in the accepted narrative should be promoted. In our opening banter, we discuss and give our opinions of Netflix's "Dahmer" series. Tune in now to the best in WI true crime and bizarre tales - Episode 15 of Badger Bizarre! It's time to get comfy, cozy AND cool with some seriously DARK cults! This week Ashley is BUSY GETTING MARRIED so Lauren is joined by a very special surprise guest-- our resident CULT expert and fashionista- you remember him best from the Queen Mary investigation- TYLER SCHUELKE! This week Lauren and Tyler have some VERY disturbing, creepy, crawly, sick and twisted CULTS. Lauren brings us a somewhat well known man, with a possibly less well known cult. Henry Lee Lucas, also known as The Confession Killer, who CLAIMED to have taken the lives of over 3,000 people was ALSO involved with a cult that... may have never existed? It's kind of like ANTIFA.. a lot of people have stories to tell.. but theres no... actual.. proof. And Tyler bring us the story of the Cult of the Black Jesus out of Papua New Guinea! It never had an official name but the leader, Steven Tari, referred to himself as black Jesus.. so what else would we call it? This monster was a Lutheran bible student who not only said he was Christ, but murdered, raped many women he kept as sex slaves, and was even accused of cannibalism before his grisly end... but I'll let Tyler give you the creepy deets. They wrap up the episode with a really compelling conversation about the value of a show like Netflix's DAHMER but also the cringeworthy-ness of people who treat serial killers like celebrities.
This week, Alana & Shay continue their discussions on Hulu's The Patient and Tell Me Lies, with episodes 7 & 8 of each. Shay admits that one of these shows is the weirdest show she's ever watched. But!! . . . she's simultaneously enjoying it. Alana still loathes one of the characters the ladies are viewing. And she can't see how she's ever going to like this particular person. Tune in to hear synopses of both show's episodes and see if you agree with Alana's & Shay's thoughts this week! Your homework: episode 9 of Hulu's The Patient, episode 9 of Hulu's Tell Me Lies AND to bring our normal round-up to four episodes, the ladies will be starting Netflix's Dahmer (episodes 1 & 2). Netflix's Dahmer is becoming one of the most viewed series in the platform's history, however, despite its popularity there has been many criticisms and discussions over its exploitative nature. To help discern what the series got right and wrong, the journalist who broke the story of the Dahmer murders back in 1991, Anne E. Schwartz, shares her unique point of view. Also, Rita Isbell, sister of Dahmer victim Errol Lindsey, takes us back to 1992 and the sentencing phase of the Dahmer trial, where she captured the nation's attention with her explosive statement, “…Jeffrey, I hate you…” Guests: Anne E. Schwartz Author, Monster: The True Story of the Jeffrey Dahmer Murders Dr. Jeff Temple Psychologist, Director of the Center for Violence Prevention at UTMB Rita Isbell Sister of Errol Lindsey Town Square with Ernie Manouse is a gathering space for the community to come together and discuss the day's most important and pressing issues. Get ready for another cultural debrief gang, because this week our guest once again cancelled at the last minute. Celebs, ey? Don't fear however, hunnies, because to make up for it we have an extra fast-paced and fun one for you all. First up, we chat Industry, the HBO drama about young, ruthless bankers that has arrived on BBC iPlayer for a second season. As big fans of the first season, we just have to ask: why are the characters suddenly so predictable? Why is Harper so unlikable? And why have they gone so hard on the sex scenes? The New Statesman called it “ porn posing as prestige TV” and we think they've got a point (although that's not to say we didn't really quite enjoy it). Then, Ellie fills Kathleen in on Triangle of Sadness, the new, absolutely hilarious, pitch-black comedy from celebrated Swedish filmmaker Ruben Östlund about a yacht that sinks, leaving the super-rich survivors – including a fashion model celebrity couple – trapped on an island. It's Östlund's English language feature film debut and El's is calling it the funniest thing she's seen this year. Finally, we turn our attention to the murky world of true-crime, as Netflix's Dahmer, a dramatisation of the life and crimes of serial killer Jeffery Dahmer, continues to stir up controversy. Is the genre as morally indefensible as the journalist Anna Leszkiewicz argues? Recommendations discussed: Industry S2 on BBC iPlayer How my friends struck gold with a TV show about badly behaved city boys by Ed Cumming for The Telegraph Triangle of Sadness Force Majeure Kiss the Ground on Netflix (the Woody Harrrelson climate doc – NOT Mud, sorry guys, ha) Dhamer on Netflix The Staircase on HBO Serial S01 E13: Adnan is Out Abolish True Crime By Anna Leszkiewicz for New Statesman What Makes a Murderer on Channel 4 Enjoy, leave us a review, and please do hop into our DMs @straightuppod to let us know what you think!
