For 50 minutes, the Vegas Golden Knights had control of a game which would have given them a 2-0 lead in the Stanley Cup Final.However, in a most improbable ten minutes, the Carolina Hurricanes managed to score three goals in 5:05 before getting tied in the final minute.And on a power play, Seth Jarvis became an overtime hero turning the Final into a best-of-five.Also, the third time's a charm for Tampa Bay Lightning head coach Jon Cooper as he wins his first Jack Adams Award as NHL Coach of the Year.Previously nominated in 2014 and 2019, Cooper narrowly beat out Lindy Ruff from the Buffalo Sabres and rookie bench boss Dan Muse of the Pittsburgh Penguins.X: https://twitter.com/NHLWraparoundNeil Smith: https://twitter.com/NYCNeilVic Morren: https://www.linkedin.com/in/vic-morren-7038737/NHL Wraparound Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/nhlwraparound/#NHLWraparound #NHLWraparound.com #ShortShifts #NYCentric #CelebritySeries #HallofFameEdition #StanleyCupdate #SummerCoolers #Smith'sPix #NeilSmith #VicMorren #BZZR #NHL #SummerCoolers #AnaheimDucks # #BostonBruins #BuffaloSabres #CalgaryFlames #CarolinaHurricanes #ChicagoBlackhawks #ColoradoAvalanche #ColumbusBlueJackets #DallasStars #DetroitRedWings #EdmontonOilers #FloridaPanthers #LosAngelesKings #MinnesotaWild #MontrealCanadiens #NashvillePredators #NewJerseyDevils #NewYorkIslanders #NewYorkRangers #OttawaSenators #PhiladelphiaFlyers #PittsburghPenguins #StLouisBlues #SanJoseSharks #SeattleKraken #TampaBayLightning #TorontoMapleLeafs #UtahMammoth #VancouverCanucks #VegasGoldenKnights #WashingtonCapitals #WinnipegJets #TaylorHall #CarterHart #LoganStankoven #ShayneGostisbehere #BraydenMcNabb #NikolajEhlers #MitchMarner #BrettHowden #SeanWalker #SebastianAho #PavelDorofeyev #IvanBarbashev #FrederikAnderssen #WilliamKarlsson #JalenChatfield #JordanMartinook #K'AndreMiller #DylanCoghlan #JeremyLauzon #WilliamCarrier #MarkJankowski #JordanStaal #JohnTortorella #DaveJackson #JimHiller #JaccobSlavin #SethJarvis #JackAdamsAward #JonCooper #LindyRuff #DanMuse #Coop'sCatchforKids #JulienBriseBois #SteveYzerman

In episode #288, we welcome former NHL Head Coach Don Granato. He is of course a member of possibly the most accomplished hockey family to come out of United States. He got his start coaching in 1993 with the Wisconsin Capitals of the USHL, and since then has been getting his reps in across a multiple of leagues and levels, most recently as the Head Coach of the Buffalo Sabres. And as you'll hear, there may not be a better person to have a conversation about player development with. His story of how he positioned himself to enhance world class talent is fascinating. We cover a lot of ground in this episode, and I sense you're going to leave with pages of notes. Listen as he shares why experimenting in practice is key for team growth, why coaching less should be the objective, and the incredible story of switching from goalie to player.

Ted Nolan's home on the Garden River First Nation reserve in northern Ontario didn't have electricity or running water, but it did have a hockey rink in the backyard that Nolan built to satisfy his own passion to play. That passion grew into a successful hockey playing and coaching career that included the Jack Adams Award as NHL Coach of the Year. In his book, Life in Two Worlds: A Coach's Journey from the Reserve to the NHL and Back, Nolan recounts both pride in his Indigenous identity and overt racism as he worked to excel in his sport. In a poignant and deeply moving episode of our podcast, I had the privilege of speaking with Michael Levy, whose life was forever altered on October 7th when his brother, Or Levy, was tragically taken hostage, and his sister-in-law, Eynav Levy, was senselessly murdered by terrorists in southern Israel. They have a three year old son, Almog. Michael bravely shared with us the raw emotions, challenges, and profound resilience that have marked his family's journey since that fateful day. His reflections on loss, strength, and the power of community paint a vivid picture of both personal tragedy and unwavering hope. Mike Keenan is a madman. Mike Keenan has a method. All things considered, both descriptions are part and parcel of a coaching career in which he angered many, and accomplished a great deal. 30 years ago he won the Stanley Cup and then abruptly parted with the New York Rangers, the team he led to the title. Iron Mike addresses career defining events such as this and covers much more in his life's journey through hockey. The 1985 Jack Adams Award winner (NHL Coach of the Year) joined SportsLit to discuss his exploits behind the bench, the front office, and off the ice. Pride and Prejudice It could have easily been the title of Ted Nolan's biography. My Life in Two Worlds: A Coach's Journey from the Reserve to the NHL and Back encompasses the duality of his drive to show people from his world, Garden River First Nation, could succeed in another one, whilst centering their Indigenous identity. A career coach who has achieved success at every level, Nolan is best known for his first tenure with the Buffalo Sabres in the 1990s. He earned the NHL coach-of-the-year award in just his second season on the job but faced professional exile for nearly a decade afterward. Nolan's journey to the NHL, both on the ice and behind the bench, began in Garden River First Nation, near Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. He and his spouse Sandra have seen both of their sons, Brandon and Jordan, play in the NHL.
On this week's Block Party presented by Jai Alai, Greg Wolf and Braydon Coburn are joined by Tampa Bay Lightning Goalie Coach Frantz Jean who just celebrated his 1,000th career game as an NHL Coach, how he was destined to be a coach, what the Lightning saw in Jonas Johansson, getting to coach both Ben Bishop and Andrei Vasilevskiy and in fact of fiction we learn that Frantz will do ANYTHING to finish a game he started no matter how messy it gets.
Season Two of Islanders Awards Winners is finally here. It's taken far too long to get to this point, but I'm proud of how these episodes turned out and I'm excited to finally release them to the world. Thank you all in advance for listening. The story of Al Arbour's one NHL Coach of the Year season begins and ends with devastating losses. In between was a franchise-record winning streak, several of the best individual seasons in team history, and the often ruthless pursuit of perfection. Arbour was a complex man - a hockey innovator who wore “dark suits and white shirts and ties that look like they were given as Christmas presents” and a father figure who pushed his players relentlessly, sometimes to the point of exasperation. But his drive was to win the Stanley Cup under any circumstance. And any stumble, no matter how minor, was unacceptable. Arbour was not afraid to butt heads with his best and most loyal players and they all understood it was all done in service of making them the best the could be. Arbour's use of video review, notes on opposing teams' tactics and installation of assistant coaches were all ahead of their time. The leaning on his wife Claire to not only record out-of-town games but to find out more about players' family lives in order to better understand and help them when he could, was critical and should not be overlooked. Man, what I would give to read those notebooks he kept on other teams. I can't even imagine the sheer amount of hockey knowledge they contained. Maybe they'll be released some day... This naturally leads to a hysterical conversation about what NHL coaches would be best in a fight. Before heading out the gang does analyze the meaningless Wild-Predators game ahead of a spirited debate about whether or not pineapple does, in fact, belong on pizza.
