This week I'm rejoined with one of our favourite guests, former Special Forces soldier and TV personality, Ollie Ollerton, who gets more candid than ever before about the SBS, and its not what you think….. KEY TAKEAWAYS We should always back spirituality with science, especially in a world where scepticism is prevalent. Strict upbringings can shape discipline and resilience, but we must never let discipline go too far. Those with a rebellious nature will find conflict in a military career. In order to progress and grow, you need to recognise personal growth and develop your mindset You can achieve self-discovery and personal development through focussing on spirituality and visualisation techniques. We need to challenge societal programming and take control of one's own thoughts and actions in order to live a fulfilling and empowered life BEST MOMENTS "I was so lost as a kid. And I say a kid, I was still a kid when I was in the military. But I was so lost. I look back now and I just think that I'd love to have that opportunity again." "I think it's a bit dangerous when Alex Hormozi says, you know, I get up in bed, I look at my phone for an hour, I do this and the other. He is what I call a unconscious competent." "We are the program product of World War I and II. Your parents were programmed through those years. Absolute lack, rationing, all that kind of thing. That program has been passed on to you and to me." "You imagine our first steps on this planet. We're never going to remember all the nice fruits that we ate. We're always going to remember the one bad berry that made us ill and could have killed us. So that is why we're addicted to the things that could go wrong." In this ep I had the opportunity to chat with Ollie Ollerton, former Special Forces soldier, entrepreneur, author, and host of SAS Australia. We had a brilliant conversation about Ollie's life experiences, up and downs, and finding calm in the chaos. It's been a wild and insightful ride for Ollie and I loved sitting down and hearing firsthand of the moments that became his own break point, (which also happens to be the title of one of his latest books) and catalyst for reaching previously his untapped potential. Ollie shares his insights around the concept of feeling peace in war, of finding comfort in the chaos and of how to overcome challenges by embracing the war within ourselves. Oh yeah, and the incredible story about his brutal and almost fatal run in with a chimpanzee at 10 years old. I hope you love listening as much as I loved recording this episode! Matthew 'Ollie' Ollerton is a former Special Forces soldier and a member of the Directing Staff in Channel 4's hit show SAS: Who Dares Wins.Ollie's military career began at the age of 18 when he joined the Royal Marine Commandos and toured operationally in Northern Ireland and in Iraq for Operation Desert Storm. After completing the gruelling 6-month-long SAS selection process, Ollie joined the Special Boat Service. Founded by Ollie Ollerton, former UK Special Forces in 2015, BreakPoint offers courses to organisations and individuals. They're designed to change the way you think, enabling positive change, unearthing potential and invigorating mental wellbeing.Ollie Ollerton has lived an incredible life.Survivor of a freak accident aged 10, tours of Northern Ireland and Iraq under his belt before the age of 21 as a Royal Marine, and a Special Forces soldier with the SBS by the age of 23.When Ollie left the military, his life spiralled out of control. Struggling to define his purpose, he headed back to the only environment he felt comfortable in: a war zone. In the wild west of Iraq during the fall of Saddam Hussein, his inner noise fell silent amid the outer noise of conflict. But life as a mercenary took its toll. Alcohol offered a ready form of escapism.Ollie tried to get himself back on track with a ‘normal' life in Australia, but it just wasn't possible. Before long, the call of danger beckoned and he was out in Thailand working with an elite team to rescue children from child slavery and sex trafficking. This experience was a pivotal moment in Ollie's life. It helped him define his future purpose – helping others – which would become the very heartbeat of BreakPoint. We talk about:Being attacked by a chimpThe special forcesBreak PointThe path to targetted thinkingInstagram being fake perfectionThank god for failureYou have to stretch to growBeing honest about where you areTo find out more about Guy Bloom and his award winning work in Team Coaching, Leadership Development and Executive Coaching click below. The link to everything CLICK HEREUK: 07827 953814Email: guybloom@livingbrave.com Web: www.livingbrave.com

In a special series of episodes, I take a look back at the highlights of 2022, and the conversations that have set the world of discussion alight on the On A Mission Podcast. In Part 1, we revisit the inspirational interview with Ollie Ollerton, whose military career began at the age of 18 when he joined the Royal Marine Commandos and toured operationally in Northern Ireland & Operation Desert Storm in Iraq. Ollie talks to me about the defining break points in his own life and talks candidly about his self-destructive battles with addiction, and how he fought back against depression and anxiety to become an example of true victory in the first of our new end of year, mini series. KEY TAKEAWAYS There is no external fix for happiness. The only way to find true peace is to look internally and repair the problems that take root inside of us. When we are set back by challenges, we need to look for the teachings within that and take it as a message to ourselves. Life has taught us something valuable, and we must reframe setbacks that way. Beating our addictions is the key to unlocking true productivity. This is never more obvious than when we take a break from substances and look at the things we can achieve, and how quickly achievements come. The power of visualisation can show us what is possible, and can help us to separate ourselves from a situation and take a step outside. This gives us the time and opportunity for reflection about our next direction. BEST MOMENTS 'The war wasn't out there. The war was within' 'People have got to start understanding that when things happen to us in life, we have to analyse them and ask what is the message?' 'It's like having a robber that's locked on the inside and robbing from you constantly' 'That was a life-changing moment for me' VALUABLE RESOURCES On A Mission - https://omny.fm/shows/on-a-mission Website - https://ollieollerton.com Ollie Ollerton Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/ollie.ollerton/?hl=en Ollie Ollerton Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/ollerton2911 Ollie Ollerton LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/double-o/ Ollie Ollerton Twitter - https://twitter.com/ollie_ollerton ABOUT THE HOST Not so long ago, life was barely recognisable for Ellie McKay, raising three children under five, battling post-natal depression, facing redundancy and walking into the job centre to claim benefits with a double pram, no confidence, and wracked with insecurities. “If you are going through hell, keep going.” — Winston Churchill You've heard of 007. Well, today we get to sit down with a real life ‘00'... Ollie Ollerton is a UK Special Forces operative, 4x bestselling author, and star of hit television series' SAS: Who Dares Wins and SAS Australia. His military career began at the age of 18 when he joined the Royal Marine Commandos and toured operationally in Northern Ireland and Iraq. After five years as a Commando, Ollie was recommended for SAS Special Forces Selection. Ollie then spent six years in the Special Boat Service (SBS) where he undertook high profile missions in counter narcotics, counter terrorism, homeland security, and humanitarian work. After leaving the Special Forces, Ollie held roles as a private security contractor in Iraq, project manager for major infrastructure projects in the Middle East (where he also trained a 2,000-strong Iraqi guard force), and as a bodyguard instructor for private projects and government officials. In addition, Ollie infiltrated child sex trafficking rings in southeast Asia. Today, he is the founder of BreakPoint, where he provides leadership and development courses to the corporate and public sector that leverages the special forces mindset. In this episode: » How Ollie Ollerton made it through the most grueling special forces selection in the world – twice. » The most impactful moments from his special forces career. » His best tips and exercises to apply in civilian life; and » How you can turn your breaking point into your biggest strength. Let's WIN THE DAY with Ollie Ollerton! _ Video version of this episode:
This week I'm on a mission with Ex-Special Forces soldier and star of TV's SAS: Who Dares Wins, Ollie Ollerton and it's an absolute banger. Everything about this interview was so engaging. A freak childhood chimp attack that nearly cost him his life seemed to leave Ollie always chasing something seemingly unobtainable. When the Special Forces failed to fill the void that he had hoped it would, it wasn't until Ollie's time in counter-terrorism freeing children from a trafficking ring in Thailand, for the first time that Ollie started to discover his purpose. In this no-bullshit chat, Ollie opens up about his self-destructive battles with alcohol and drug addiction and his struggles with anxiety and depression which make his story so relatable. There is so much raw honest truth and valuable lessons in this interview about how Ollie has finally put his demons to bed to live a life with meaning. It's absolute dynamite! A brilliant interview, definitely one of my favourites! KEY TAKEAWAYS When we step into unfamiliar territory and challenge ourselves outside of the realms of comfort, the gains can be more impactful than we realise. These gains are life-altering. We attract the energy that we exude in life. If we expect the worst, then we attract negative energy. This is why it's vital to radiate positivity, as it will mean that we attract and harness it everywhere. As human beings we are image driven. We strive to achieve the picture perfect existence, or attain unrealistic ideals with short term wins. What we should strive for are the wins that come through feeling. Happiness is far more important. When you're put into a pressure situation, you lose the ability to design the perfect outcome. Your thoughts, feelings, actions and reactions become organic. You live in the moment. BEST MOMENTS 'The ethos of Break Point is to take that short term step into discomfort for long term gain' 'Where focus goes, energy glows' 'We should have goals that stretch us. They should excite us, but scare us at the same time' 'I want to help as many people as possible to come from a place that's dark and horrible, to a place that's good' VALUABLE RESOURCES On A Mission - https://omny.fm/shows/on-a-mission Website - https://ollieollerton.com Ollie Ollerton Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/ollie.ollerton/?hl=en Ollie Ollerton Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/ollerton2911 Ollie Ollerton LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/double-o/ Ollie Ollerton Twitter - https://twitter.com/ollie_ollerton ABOUT THE HOST Not so long ago, life was barely recognisable for Ellie McKay, raising three children under five, battling post-natal depression, facing redundancy and walking into the job centre to claim benefits with a double pram, no confidence, and wracked with insecurities. In this episode, Joel, and Andy talk about why journaling is important and how they have benefited from doing it themselves. They share how it has helped them in their personal and work lives to gain insight into what matters, focus, get more done and de-stress. All things anyone can benefit from too, simply by giving journaling a go. KEY TAKEAWAYS Journaling might not work for everyone. But it is 100% worth giving it a go. Journaling is a fantastic way to cut through the noise. To identify what you need to do and stay on track when doing it. Look for and acknowledge your wins. Find three wins every day and write them down. Do your journaling early in the day. Take ownership of your morning. Make sure that you note down how you are feeling. That will help you to keep what happened during the day in context. If your primary goal is to earn more money, you will never be satisfied or happy. BEST MOMENTS ‘Nothing woo woo here, we don't do woo woo. ´ ‘Until I journal, if I am honest, I didn't know what my priorities were.' ‘Forcing yourself to sit down and write, forces you to think.' "Courage is being willing to throw yourself into something without any guarantee of a successful outcome."Ollie Ollerton is a former special forces soldier who shares his experience of its gruelling six month selection process in this episode. He massively doubted himself when he stepped off the bus on day 1 and looked around at the other guys who were also trying to make it into the army's elite unit. But despite the doubts, Ollie was one of only a handful who eventually did make it through to the end. When it comes to throwing yourself into something, the biggest obstacle tends to be the mind. Its primary focus is to keep us safe, and so it baulks at stepping out into the unknown. And it's not just about heading into a precarious situation but those which on the surface may seem mundane: perhaps having a difficult conversation with your partner or at work, and acting on it even - as the mind gives you a million reasons as to why you shouldn't.**A huge thanks to my sponsors, Puresport. This episode was not what I thought it might be and Ollie was not what I imagined going in. And yes, by now I should be better than assuming or expecting. My bad. I don't want to say too much but his story (in and out of the military) is fascinating, inspiring and at times, confronting. I genuinely loved talking with him. Here's a snapshot of his bio: Ollie's military career began at the age of 18 when he joined the Royal Marine Commando's and toured operationally in Northern Ireland & Operation Desert Storm in Iraq. After five years of service with Commando's and upon completion of a gruelling six-month selection process, Ollie was one of five candidates to pass selection for SAS, from an initial 250. During his service, he undertook a number of high-profile missions in a variety of locations both on land and sea, with his missions including hostage rescue, counter narcotics, counter terrorism, homeland security, counter insurgency operations and humanitarian efforts. Ollie is a cornerstone of the team that brought the Special Forces into the public eye with the Channel Four series SAS: Who Dares Wins and he is CEO of BREAK-POINT, an organisation for both public and corporate that focuses on changing people's limiting beliefs and performance. Enjoy. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
