In This Episode: We cover the basics of Emotionally Focused Therapy developed by Dr. Sue Johnson. Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is a well-known humanistic approach to psychotherapy formulated in the 1980's and developed in tandem with the science of adult attachment, a profound developmental theory of personality and intimate relationships. This science has expanded our understanding of individual dysfunction and health as well as the nature of love relationships and family bonds. Attachment views human beings as innately relational, social and wired for intimate bonding with others. The EFT model prioritizes emotion and emotional regulation as the key organizing agents in individual experience and key relationship interactions. This is useful for your primary romantic partner as well as in any friendships, family relationships and work relationships. In This Episode: Kalyna delves into the 5 Love Languages mapped out by Gary Chapman. These languages overlap and are unique to the individual. We all enjoy these 5 languages and possibly others in varying degrees. The exciting journey is to figure out what your partner appreciates most. We often love others how we would like to be loved ourselves. It takes the wind out of our sails when the other person just doesn't get the hint that we want that new purse, or a nice text in the middle of the day. It all comes down to what we value and how we have learned to show our love. If you want a different type of love, the best way to clearly get it is to ask! 1. Acts of Service - You take day to day tasks off of someone's to do list. You lighten the load of things your partner needs to do. Think house chores, errands etc. 2. Physical Touch - We know this one. Hugs, kisses, cuddling, massage and any intimate physical connection you share with your partner or loved ones. 3. Quality Time - This is undivided 1-1 time with your loved ones. Netflix is okay, if there's true connection happening. The only way to know if this is landing for both parties is to ask and see if they feel seen, heard and understood. 4. Receiving Gifts - This can be any sort of gift, whether it's flowers, an online gift card or a care package. This is something you make or purchase that's tangible for the other person to experience. It can be a day trip with certain excursions but it's something you've planned out or set up yourself (which would double up as quality time.) 5. Words of Affirmation - A text saying something your loved one appreciates or likes about you counts in this category! Any time you are affirming that you love and care for the person, or reinforcing what you admire or enjoy about them will be speaking this love language. Remember, while this was first aimed at married couples, this resonates across all relationships and we should treat it as such, a guide to loving people the way they want to be loved. Unsure of how your loved ones want to receive your love? Ask them! Or you can play observer and see what lights them up most. How has play positively impacted you in the past as a child? What did you like to play as a kid? Kalyna navigates the idea of playing and setting goals that allow us to be in enjoyment. This episode was inspired by Joseph Campbell, Jordan Peterson and Dr. Maria Nemeth's work among many others. In This Episode: We discuss some of the basic and most common food additives and preservatives that hinder our ability to digest our food and in some cases even exacerbate autoimmune conditions and allergies. Apply to Join Woman's Wisdom™ to be in community with women who are also working toward living in flow. Kalyna discusses easy dietary changes, lifestyle tips and some products that when removed from our lives can work wonders. - Carrageenan and other top additives and their effects - The importance of clean ingredients in our food, skincare products and cleaning products - Scented candles and air fresheners and the havoc they wreak on our endocrine system - Additives can hide in supplements (especially Magnesium Stearate, Titanium Dioxide, Maltodextrin and Dextrose) - These harmful and disruptive ingredients can be in anything from lotion and sunscreen to cleaning products and laundry detergent. Most levels in something like a supplement are low, but the cumulative effect over time is what we need to watch out for. Eating something processed once might not be an issue, but eating processed items, using irritating skin products and detergents and then scented candles and supplements and we give our body too much to handle and detoxify. In This Episode: We've all been there: feeling alone and out of touch with something larger than ourselves. What can we do? Via two experiences I had in the Yasawa Islands and Miami Beach I've come to realize that group rituals in our daily lives is what brings about a feeling of being seen, and held in a broader force than ourselves. Who says rituals and ceremonies need to be reserved for weddings and funerals? I propose we bring these moments of reverence into our day to day in order to feel more unified, fulfilled and loved. We can do this via established ceremonies, small moments of gratitude before a meal or even working out together in the park. In This Episode: We all complain. About our parents, siblings, job, money, partners and bodies. We feel we don't have enough. We want more. Let's talk about how we can use complaining as the ultimate superpower to get what we want out of life. If you've ever felt stuck, down in the dumps, complaining about the state of your life, it's the perfect opportunity to clarify and get what you want instead. Ask Yourself: 1. What are my key complaints? Write/Say/Draw them somewhere. 2. What do I want instead? Flip the complaint on its head. 3. What is one thing I can do? In This Episode: We examine the ways willingness can come in and change our lives for the better. The idea that we must be confident or build confidence when we start something new, or continue in a chosen arena is misleading. There is more to moving forward than confidence. What helps most is often being open to and willing to take the next step that presents itself to us. This can mean saying no to an opportunity that isn't aligned with our vision, or saying yes to what we are open to. Venturing down new ways of thinking and doing can seem daunting. If we open ourselves up and become willing to take one step, we begin on a path however narrow the opening might be. It all takes just one step at a time. In This Episode: A personal musing on the filters we add to our expression of ourselves. We wear metaphorical masks every day in society and while they do serve a purpose I'd like to examine how we use them. How do you show up in your personal relationships? Are you authentic and vulnerable with yourself about how you feel? Who's your inner circle who supports you in your darkest struggles and wildest joys? How much of yourself are you hiding away from the world? Brene talks about this as our "secret shame lives" when we feel not ok enough to share parts of ourselves with the world. Are you living in shame of parts of yourself? If so, which parts do you feel you can't show to others? Why? What's your greatest expression of yourself? Listen to consider these questions and more as I swirl around in my thoughts and contemplate sharing myself with the world. Love yourself in the ordinary in your "me-ness." I suppose today's episode leaves more questions than answers but enjoy pondering them. In This Episode: This is the first of six episodes where we'll talk through the Logical Level system I use to support clients with figuring out the next best step in their career. You can leverage this framework for any career decision, situation or to broadly define your career roadmap. This episode dives into how to get a bird's eye view of your career and figure out your vision and purpose. Without this, you can be super productive but relatively unfocused in where you're headed. Without a clear north star, our careers can twist and turn without giving us fulfillment and meaning. While it is possible to build a successful career without a lot of things, focus on your goal is something you can't do without. Listen to hear the key questions you need to ask yourself to get clear on where you're heading and hear some examples of other people's scenarios along the way. Support the show and get behind the scenes access to extra content! To craft your vision or purpose statement use the format: I help X (people) with Y (problem) to get Z (solution). The key is to negotiate win-wins with the person at the other side of the table. This is my introduction into the importance of improving your negotiation skills no matter what your profession is. In This Episode: I discuss my thoughts on the book Man's Search for Meaning by Viktor E. Frankl. His insights into existentialism, suffering and finding purpose in life are profound. It's a quick read that'll change your life. Frankl asserts that any moment in life is what you decide to make of it. He shares the one freedom that cannot be taken away is how you choose to perceive a situation. Finding meaning in our personal stories is a worthwhile exercise by writing out our life journey and being curious when in uncertain situations. In This Episode: I discuss how mold truly is everywhere and it's about how much and what kind of mold we have in our homes. I have many resources I've used in my journey that I'll share below. Consider air quality testing, Dr. Jess' Kill Sweat Bind approach to detoxify your body and above all else, remove yourself from the exposure if you have symptoms of being exposed to toxic mold. You can do air testing to verify the levels of mold in the air and what kinds of mold you are being exposed to. Air filters are a common support as well as fogging your home with mold killing solutions. Considering cleaning your air ducts is critical. If you choose to DIY and fog or try to remediate your home, it's important to consult a professional company as the mold will just continue to come back if you don't address the source of the mold growth. Fixing any water leaks or areas where water and moisture is able to get into your home is your first step to stopping an overgrowth of mold growth indoors. Symptoms of mold exposure can be flu-like, respiratory, like allergies and also psychological. Long term exposure to mold can trigger autoimmune conditions and can be extremely serious. While this is a serious topic, the best thing is to get your home or work environment testing and move forward with the correct information rather than to make assumptions. If you'd like to take supplements for mold detoxification and to replenish your body's depleted glutathione levels, there are many different options on the market. Stick with as pure supplements as you can. I take magnesium bi-glycinate and glutathione daily. *Not Medical Advice!* Resources: Mold Stats and Facts Dr. Jessica Peatross - Kill Sweat Bind protocol EC3 Mold Cleaning Solution - Natural Pro-Lab Home Mold Test Kit from Home Depot - $16 + $40 for lab test results on mold identification Ontario Mold Specialists - $150/test sample, must do at least one indoor and one outdoor sample --- // SUPPORT THE SHOW // Become a member Donate to the show // COURSES // Apply to join the Woman's Wisdom™ Accelerator to be in community with women living and working in flow Have Pain Free Periods with the Period Secrets™ Course Free Career Design Masterclass // LINKS // Looking for a coach? In This Episode: I have been astounded at the different results I have experienced on a 3 day water fast and 21 days on the carnivore diet. The reason for starting this elimination diet was because of pervasive inflammatory issues after sustaining a traumatic brain injury in a car accident in 2019. I needed to feel better. After a year as a vegetarian/vegan, I was anemic and lifeless. Something had to give. I thought I had turned over every stone when I saw Mikhaila Peterson's podcast and how she and her father Jordan Peterson were eating only beef. I was shocked. How could that be the solution? Is it possible to be completely nutritionally healthy on such a restrictive diet? The short answer is yes. The long answer is I'm still figuring it out, supplementing with electrolytes but seeing steady progress toward health and vitality. I feel better every single day. It has not been a straight line, but let's see where I'm at day 30 or 45. I have heard it can take up to 6 months to fully heal depending on the condition. I understand this is restrictive, and extreme for some. That being said, if I changed nothing, I would not see different results. This is my attempt to product a different outcome for myself and my family. I am not a doctor. This is not medical advise. This is my personal experience.
