Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard

Nikki Glaser (Alive and Unwell, Someday You'll Die, Not Safe with Nikki Glaser) is a comedian, actor, and television host. Nikki joins the Armchair Expert to discuss why Dax's name has good joke texture, her plea for people not to have veneers during the apocalypse, and feeling embarrassed that her name had to take up space in Ralph Feinnes' brain. Nikki and Dax talk about growing up resentful that she wasn't born as pretty as she could have been, wanting the approval that comes with being extraordinary, and why Dax thinks Nikki is the Taylor Swift of comedy. Nikki explains becoming sober from comments and cigarettes, getting permission for her joke about Benny Blanco and Selena Gomez at the Golden Globes, and addresses her fear that she's secretly a mean girl.Follow Armchair Expert on the Wondery App or wherever you get your podcasts. I wanted to like this movie. Really, I did. I tried to like it. But modern realism is just totally unsuited to the Homeric epics and like, also...maybe to telling a coherent story at all? Ralph Feinnes and Juliette Binoche are both terrific actors, but The Return failed for me at every level and here's why. [School of Movies 2024] It's always a risk, setting a sci-fi dystopian movie only a few years from filming. You're going to make predictions about how the world might look and operate, with new technology or sociological and political upheaval within a time period so immediate that it's the difference between the launch of the Sony PlayStation and the PlayStation 2 But we are currently living in a dystopia increasingly left to the devices of the dumbest of AI, and many of us are wondering "How the hell did all this happen between the PS4 and PS5?". Plus, the writer/producer of this one warned us about Skynet before. James Cameron here teams up with director (and occasional wife) Katherine Bigelow to deliver a grimy neo-noir that failed abysmally at the box office when everyone wanted Batman Forever. A disregarded cult favourite with a mysterious and twisted psychopath murdering people in truly stomach-churning ways, the same year Se7en was a massive smash hit.  The tech is effectively Virtual Reality, only it's recorded, first-person real life experiences that go way beyond mere visual immersion. There are riots on the streets of Los Angeles as a terrifyingly militarised police force close in, and as the clock ticks towards midnight on New Year's Eve in the far-flung year of 1999 a young and twitchy Ralph Feinnes and a statuesque goddess, his long-suffering protector played by Angela Basset find themselves caught up in a dangerous world.  This show was commissioned by Greg Downing, and we had a blast delving into it.

Tune in on the 2nd and 4th Monday of every month for a new live episode at ksro.com!  For our introductory episode back, hosts Michelle and Coco invite Ross Cobb, owner and winemaker at Cobb Wines to chat about wine and music. Ross has a deep connection to both music and wine, playing bass and collecting records since he was a boy. He went to work helping his father and mother establish their vineyard, Coastlands, just outside of Occidental in Sonoma County before working for a variety of wineries, including Ferrari Carano, Williams Selyem, Flowers, Hirsch, and more. In 2001, Ross and his parents bottled their first wines under the Cobb Wines label, and now Ross is the owner and winemaker there. Ross is also the winemaker for Les Claypool's wine label, Claypool Cellars, and was even pulled onstage by Les to play bass at a show at the Hopmonk! Listen to all of the fun music and wine stories Ross shares in this episode, and learn more about his wines at cobbwines.com. Hear more behind the scenes conversation with Ross Cobb, including a tasting of a special pinot noir dedicated to his late mother, as well as how his wine was featured in the Ralph Feinnes movie The Menu, online at ROCKnVINO.com. British filmmaker Martin McDonagh earned global recognition for the 2017 filmThree Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, which earned seven Academy Award nominations and two wins. But his relatively lesser-known 2008 film, In Bruges, is our Lost and Found for today.Set in the city of Bruges in Belgium, a city renowned for its medieval architecture and art, the story follows two hitmen sent from England to carry out a mission. Colin Ferrel essays the role of Ray, a relative newcomer to the profession, who is deeply haunted by the traumatic events of his first mission when he accidentally murdered a little boy. Brendan Gleeson plays the role of the veteran hitman, Ken, who attempts to help ease Ray's trauma. However, they soon realise that their boss Harry had asked for this mission simply to give Ray a proper vacation before killing him. Harry, essayed by Ralph Feinnes, despite being a hardened criminal, is a man of principle and believes that Ray should be punished for his mistake. The film's visuals, sound design, engaging screenplay, and riveting performances, makes it one of the best black-comedy drama films of the 21st century. It explores themes of morality, trauma, and redemption through visual imagery, editing, and narrative structure. It opens a discourse on the social construct of morality and how it is perceived by an individual regardless of established conventions. The film remains one of director McDonagh's best works, if not his best. It is available on Amazon Prime Video. Well, that's the OTTplay Lost and Found film for today, until the next time it's your host Nikhil signing out.Aaj kya dekhoge OTTplay se poochoWritten by Ryan Gomez

If you like your movies lavish, dreamy and dripping in nostalgia, you could do a lot worse than turn to the work of Italian director Luca Guadagnino. Luca is a filmmaker with a sensitive touch - capable of making the very specific set of circumstances in the stories he tells seem personal and relevant to us all. Music, of course, has proved most useful in achieving this recurring tone - not least in A Bigger Splash, which starred Tilda Swinton as a world-fmaous rockstar and Ralph Feinnes as a larger-than-life record producer. His latest offering is Call Me By Your Name. Set in Italy, the film chronicles the relationship between 17-year-old Elio Perlman and his father's American student, Oliver, who spends a heady summer living with the family in 1983. Suffice to say Edith is not alone in loving it, with critics already bigging-up its chances come awards season. Luca tends not to use conventional composers in his work - though Sufjan Stevens has written two original cues for Call Me By Your Name. Instead, for the most part, he relies on source music. And given that the character of Elio is a pianist, Luca sprinkled the narrative with piano compositions by the likes of John Adams and Ryuichi Sakamoto. You'll also hear music from The Psychedelic Furs, Rolling Stones, Captain Beefheart and Goblin throughout the course of the conversation.
