Zack Snyder has a reputation as a Director's Cut director: but what does that actually mean? The one where Green Blooded Bastard watches Rebel Moon—Part One: A Child of Fire. This movie is an original concept based on a Star Wars story that never got made, with some slow-motion thrown in for fun.
We had a great conversation with Kayden Kashelev on The Chris & Sandy Show. We talked about Firebuds, Rebel Moon, how he got started as an actor and more! The industry has taken notice of this multifaceted up-and-comer who has experience in film, television, theater, and voiceover. Kayden currently lends his voice to the Disney Jr. series Firebuds as Cory, the network's first non-binary character. The series follows a boy named Bo and his fire engine best friend Flash as they team up with their first responder friends, who are all eager to follow in the footsteps of their parents, to help others in their community with problems big and small. Season 2 is airing throughout the summer on Disney Jr. and Disney Channel with some episodes available on Disney+.Kayden can also currently be seen starring in the hit two-part Netflix saga, Rebel Moon Part One: A Child of Fire and Rebel Moon Part Two: The Scargiver directed and created by Zack Snyder. The sci-fi epic series is set in a distant galaxy and follows Kora, a former warrior who gathers a group of rebels to defend her colony on the moon Veldt from the tyrannical forces of the Imperium, led by the ruthless Admiral Noble. Across two parts, it explores themes of rebellion, sacrifice, and the fight for freedom against oppressive regimes. Kayden plays Finn, a child who is seen running around his village with friends. He watches as the warriors train and seems to develop a special relationship with Kora. The Rebel Moon saga is streaming now and you can watch the trailer for The Scargiver here. The highly-anticipated Director's Cuts titled Rebel Moon — Chapter One: Chalice of Blood and Chapter Two: Curse of Forgiveness will be released August 2nd. No stranger to the stage, Kayden recently shined as Brendan in Drag: The Musical alongside stars such as Joey McIntyre and RuPaul's Drag Race talents Alaska and Jackie Cox. The musical was honored as ‘Best New Play Or Musical' at the 2022 BroadwayWorld Los Angeles Awards.
Zack Snyder first pitched the idea Seven Samurai in Space when he was in college. In 2012, he pitched it to Kathleen Kennedy as his way of “fixing” Star Wars. In 2023, Rebel Moon: Part One - A Child of Fire was released on Netflix. This is the story of how one idea becomes ten hours worth of movie. CONTENT WARNING: This episode discusses suicide at 16:10. This week on Nerds Talking The Podcast, the hosts kick things off with a discussion on different types of movie experiences, setting the stage for their review of the Deadpool/Wolverine movie trailer. After dissecting the trailer, they dive into the main event: the much-anticipated Zack Snyder film, Rebel Moon 2: The Scargiver on Netflix. Directed by Zack Snyder and co-written with Kurt Johnstad and Shay Hatten, this epic space opera is a direct sequel to Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire (2023). The story unfolds on the moon of Veldt, where Kora and her band of warriors venture to aid farmers in defending their home against the Motherworld. As the film progresses, Kora and the surviving warriors return to Veldt, believing they have thwarted Admiral Noble's plans and prevented the impending assault to claim the planet's food supplies. However, they soon learn from Aris, a Motherworld soldier turned double agent, that Noble is alive and the dreadnought ship will arrive in just five days. With time running out, Kora and the fighters join forces with the villagers to harvest the entire grain supply in three days. The goal is to use the flour as leverage to prevent the Motherworld forces from bombing the village from orbit. Over the remaining two days, Titus, played by [insert actor name], trains the villagers to fight, preparing them for the inevitable confrontation with Noble's forces. “I was hungry,” says Kurt Johnstad, who took any position he could find to get on set. “I was just looking for an avenue to tell stories. I looked at all the jobs and the flow and rhythm of being on set. I realized a director or cinematographer needs all these people, but you could be self-reliant and self-generate — it's the writer.” “The writer can just sort of be in their little shack and type away. I gave myself ten years to have a career, from my 20s to my 30s. Just try to do this. I don't come from an entertainment business family, so it was hard. By 30 though, I felt like I had a career and was going in the right direction.” Johnstad recalls that he wrote about three full films before he got his first credit, which was a straight-to-video kickboxer / bloodsport movie called True Vengeance. “That's what it ended up being anyway. I've never seen it,” he jokes. But, it got him his first credit and fueled his career. He also credits this early relationships with other martial artists for career longevity. Friendships with people like Chad Stahelski (Dir. John Wick), Sam Hargrave (Dir. Extraction), and Dave Leitch (Bullet Train) have led to multiple collaborations. Now, Johnstad is best known for writing scripts like 300, Act of Valor, 300: Rise of an Empire, Atomic Blonde, and most recently, Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire and Rebel Moon - Part Two: The Scargiver. Welcome to the first SHUDcast of 2024! We enter this new and unholy year with new and unholy practices! Director Zack Snyder discusses his new film, Rebel Moon: Part One - A Child of Fire, with fellow Director Louis Leterrier in a Q&A at the DGA theater in Los Angeles. In the conversation, he discusses how he aimed to capture the post-Star Wars pulp science fiction aesthetic, his process when pitching the film, and how he worked on stunt scenes with his Actors. The film tells the story of Kora, who crash-lands on a moon at the edge of the universe, and finds new life among peaceful farmers. But when peace is traded for bloodshed, newly formed revolutionaries must learn to fight together to defend their land, and survive the war on their moon.
