DISPONIBLE EN VIDEO POR YOUTUBE: https://youtu.be/drXM7CyLciI¡Hola, cinéfilxs!
THE POWER OF LOVE Happy Pride Month! To celebrate we are diving deep into the low lit, emotional gut punch All of Us Strangers. Let's take a trip to San Francisco circa 2014 and the pilot episode of HBO's “Looking!” We look back on the history of this acclaimed series, from its roots as a short film to a primetime cable series. While its initial broadcast run was cut short, this show has found a loyal fandom and critical praise in the years since. If Tony winner Jonathan Groff, Emmy winner Murray Bartlett and direction from Andrew Haigh (All of Us Strangers) aren't enough to get you on board yet, I don't know what to tell ya! Wishing you a Happy Pride Month from all of us at TVPL!Hosted By:Geoff KerbisRich InmanMax Singer
Jeff and Phil welcome Michael Luo, executive editor at The New Yorker and author of the book Strangers in the Land: Exclusion, Belonging, and the Epic Story of the Chinese in America, a sweeping narrative history of the Chinese in America, and their more than century-long struggle to belong in the face of bigotry, persecution, exclusion and racial terror. Michael talks about the real-life racist incident that partially inspired the project; the complexities and quirks of Chinese American immigration history; some of the fascinating stories and characters he uncovered during his research for Strangers in the Land; and the alarming parallels between past and current debates on immigration, citizenship, and our multiracial democracy.

STRENGTH AND HONOR!The legendary Sir Ridley Scott (Alien, Blade Runner) returns to Ancient Rome to direct this long-awaited sequel to his Best Picture-winning, blockbuster smash from twenty four years ago, Gladiator. This continuation takes place around sixteen years later as the legacy of the both Maximus and the late Emperor Marcus Aurelius has seemingly waned. Rome is now even more corrupt with two childish, manic twin emperors (Joseph Quinn, Fred Hechinger) now running things as the Roman Empire has stretched itself even thinner under the military leadership of General Acacius (Pedro Pascal)....with bloody, increasingly elaborate gladiator games taking place in the Coliseum now as important as ever! And into this brutal arena, A Hero Will Rise. :) His name is Lucius and he's a slave played by acclaimed up-and-coming actor Oscar-nominee Paul Mescal (Aftersun, All of Us Strangers) while the promoter who owns and controls him is Macrinus played by multiple Oscar-winner Denzel Washington. Also still in the mix and returning from the first film is Lucilla played by Connie Nielsen (One Hour Photo, Wonder Woman) who seems to recognize this strapping young fighter who's staking Rome by storm....and what results is another swords-and-sandals epic somewhat similar to the first one, only THIS time featuring....sharks? :P Host & Editor: Geoff GershonProducer: Marlene GershonSend us a texthttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

On this episode of The Movie Podcast, Daniel and Anthony are joined by Paul Mescal (All of Us Strangers, Aftersun) to discuss his starring role as Lucius Verus in Ridley Scott's GLADIATOR II. The film is a sequel to Gladiator (2000) starring Russell Crowe and continues the epic saga of power, intrigue, and vengeance set in Ancient Rome. Years after witnessing the death of the revered hero Maximus (Crowe) at the hands of his uncle, Lucius (Paul Mescal) is forced to enter the Colosseum after his home is conquered by the tyrannical Emperors who now lead Rome with an iron fist. With rage in his heart and the future of the Empire at stake, Lucius must look to his past to find strength and honor to return the glory of Rome to its people. A 1 hora i 27 minuts, fem una ressenya sense espòilers d'All Of Us Strangers, una pel·lícula que ens va semblar espectacular quan va passar per cinema i que teniu disponible Disney +. This week, Rolando, Nicole, and Eddie kick off Pride with a deep dive into the haunting narratives of All of Us Strangers (2023). Did you know this film is an adaptation of the 1987 novel Strangers, which was also made into the 1988 film The Discarnates? Both films explore the eerie yet touching stories of a lonely man who visits the spirits of his deceased parents while starting a relationship with another lonely soul in his near-empty apartment complex. These tales navigate the themes of revisiting the past and the potential pitfalls of nostalgia. All of Us Strangers is a queer film, which sparks a meaningful discussion among the hosts about the current state of queer cinema in Hollywood. Is representation in decline? Tune in to find out as we explore these captivating ghost stories and the broader implications for LGBTQ+ representation in film.
