Did you know that being socially isolated is equivalent to smoking 15 cigarettes a day! What's really sad about this is that we're seemingly more "connected" than we've ever been, but research shows we're also more isolated.  Friend, it should be obvious by now that being "connected" does not equal relational intimacy. That's why we're addressing the beauty found in friendship as we continue our series on The People Who Shape Us. There is a potential for scientists today to lean into experiments that promote a "brave new world," including creating transgender animals, making orphans by experiments with embryos, and using synthetic wombs to avoid raising children in a familial environment. At the same time, science has the capacity to heal certain diseases and make it possible for babies to live when they might have died otherwise. What we need is scientists that fear God and are willing to apply Biblical ethics to the world of science. This program includes:1. As many of you will know, Uma Dinsmore Tuli has been a powerful force for good in many fields for decades, including Yoga, Menstruality, and women's health. She describes herself as a writer, an educator, a Hyperactive Yoginī, a mother of three and a devotee to the Dark Mother. Today we chat about the cycles that guide Uma's life, from the planets, to the moon, to her early relationship with her cycle and how it led her to develop Womb Yoga and write the best known of her six books, Yoni Shakti, a feminist retelling of yoga. All the way to Uma's menopause process, which happened during the crucible of Covid and being silenced due to a legal battle, and the unstoppable flow of creativity power it awakened within her. The golden thread we track throughout the conversation is how we can experience our blood, our orgasms, our pregnancy and pregnancy losses, our lactation, and our menopause as extraordinary portals to power, but only if we're conscious of them, and if we respect them. We explore:What happened when Uma showed up to her yoga sessions, as a new mother, with a postpartum body, how the practices - as they were being taught - didn't meet the needs of her bleeding, lactating and how this inspired her to write the book that she needed: Yoni Shakti. The healing power of circling as women as a radical act of resistance to patriarchal and colonial oppression, and as a pathway to recultivating our trust in each other. Why we need to decolonise our sleep - as a way to recover our menstrual and menopause health - which is one of the reasons why Uma wrote her new book, Nidra Shakti: the Power of Rest - an illustrated, decolonial encyclopedia of Yoga Nidra. ---Receive Red School's free video training: Love Your Cycle, Discover the Power of Menstrual Cycle Awareness to Revolutionise Your Life - www.redschool.net/love---The Menstruality Podcast is hosted by Red School. We live in a world where we so often feel that we need to live like men, work like men, and push ourselves like men in order to be valued. When the truth is that we are more-or-less twenty eight different women each month, and there is immense power and magic in this innate ebb and flow. As our guest today, Usha Anandi, the Founder of Womben Wellness says that women and people with cycles have four personalities every month, and each one has distinct spiritual gifts. Today we walk through the four inner seasons of the menstrual cycle, exploring the spiritual powers that become available to us as we move through the cycle month. Usha who is also known as Erin Foley, is a devoted Mother, holistic nutritionist, childbirth educator, full-spectrum doula, and herbalist committed to changing the status quo by alchemizing modern scientific information with ancient, energetic practices to serve the whole woman. We explore:How Usha didn't plan to work in this field, but her menstrual pain continually led her to her Calling to heal herself, and guide others to do the same. The importance of avoiding the capitalist, patriarchal traps of pushing ourselves in inner spring and summer by ‘bio-hacking' our bodies to get the most out of them, and instead embrace our natural pre-ovulatory playfulness, and our innate ovulatory capacity to be at the centre of our family and community lives. How connecting to our inner autumn truth-speaking powers can school us in expressing our calling and taking a stand for what we most love. ---Receive our free video training: Love Your Cycle, Discover the Power of Menstrual Cycle Awareness to Revolutionise Your Life - www.redschool.net/love---The Menstruality Podcast is hosted by Red School. "I would say what we can celebrate is the incredible mobilization of the young people. They went everywhere, they knocked on the door, they mobilized. This was an incredible, incredible mobilization. So that was extraordinary because it showed real mobilization and an understanding that the National Rally was a real threat. We knew that if they came to power, the first people who would be targeted would be people of color, and that was absolutely clear."For our snap episode on the snap elections in the UK and France, Professor David Palumbo-Liu and Azeezah Kanji talk with eminent decolonial scholar activists, Françoise Vergès in France and Priyamvala Gopal in the UK. Scientists across the globe have been experimenting with artificial wombs -- using what look like giant plastic bags to incubate premature-born animals. So far, researchers have found enough success with animals, like lambs, that they may soon try this method with human babies. But, many wonder where you draw the line when it comes to the ethics behind this. Author and Fellow at the Ethics and Public Policy Center Noelle Mering explains why she's worried the wrong people could utilize artificial wombs for the wrong reasons and shares the dangers she fears may come with replacing a woman's role in pregnancy and childbirth. In 2007, Japan's health minister referred to women ages 15-50 as “birthing machines.” The context was a speech about Japan's declining birthrate and projected population shrinkage. As Sujin Lee shows in Wombs of Empire: Population Discourses and Biopolitics in Modern Japan (Stanford UP, 2023), neither population anxieties nor the idea of women as childbearing devices whose wombs were the property of the state are new. However, when the “population problem” became a public preoccupation for politicians, scientists, and activists in the 1910s, it was an expression of worries about overpopulation and carrying capacity in a “resource-poor” nation and empire. Wombs of Empire traces the trajectory of population discourses and practices from these years through wartime Japan, with particular attention to the ways in which notions of motherhood were constructed hierarchically within the context of empire and war, and how Malthusian population control discourses formulated by leftists, feminists, scientists, and politicians gave way to the natalism of total war. Ep 151 - The surrogacy industry has boomed over the past decade. The rich and famous have started to rent out the wombs of other women in order to maintain their bodies and fast paced lifestyle. Why carry your own baby when another woman can do it for you? There are some serious concerns about this new way of bringing babies into the world. The dark side of "womb renting" isn't something many are willing to be honest about. But, women deserve to know the truth. We brought on expert Ericka Andersen to share the truth about surrogacy. Today we're joined by Libby Emmons, editor in chief of the the The Post Millennial, to discuss more stories from IVF and surrogacy dystopia. First, we cover the first-ever creation of synthetic human embryos using stem cells in what scientists from the University of Cambridge and the California Institute of Technology call a groundbreaking advance that sidesteps the need for eggs or sperm. This obviously raises endless ethical and existential questions about humanity and purpose, and we look at some of the many problems that could arise from such "advances." We look at a TikTok of an adult born from IVF who claims she's curious about gestating her "twin," as well as all the questions that come along with that. With the advancement of technology in reproduction, the question is no longer "can we?" but "should we?" We cover a few other horrifying stories of surrogacy and IVF, which all show the truth that the goal tends to be adult personal desire rather than the well-being of the created children. We look again at the difference between surrogacy/IVF and adoption, which are often wrongly conflated. Then we discuss a study indicating an increase in women going through IVF in hopes of purposely becoming single mothers and look at the many cases of surrogacy eliminating bodily autonomy despite abortion activists being so pro-surrogacy. --- Timecodes: (01:17) Creating synthetic human embryos (24:29) How to address these issues societally (29:30) Grown-up IVF baby wants to implant brother (43:10) Difference between surrogacy/IVF and adoption (45:09) Single mothers on purpose / sperm selling (54:25) “Maternity” surrogate photo shoot (01:00:23) Lance Bass --- Today's Sponsors: EdenPURE — when you buy one Thunderstorm you get one FREE, this week only!
