Produced by Joseph Cottrell, Wayne Hall, Ken Fuller and Jeffrey Crecelius This week, Mark and I had a lot of fun on one of our Yes Guess Who quizzes. Also, as you'll hear, we veered a little off-topic in both the answer section of the quiz and in a two pence segment that was supposed to be about Yes and Yes-related Record Store Day releases, but we enjoyed a little bit of less serious chat a couple of times there. In the quiz, we each had five quotations from Yes men to try and fox each other with and, this time, I think they were quite a bit more difficult than the previous two outings of this game. Like last time, there were two points for attributing the quotation correctly and one for guessing the decade in which it was said. (That's really the least reliable part of the quiz and just there to add a little extra spice, or whatever.) I also had a bonus point available for Mark on one question, so listen out for that. Who said what? When did they say it? Who won the competition? Do add your own scores to the comments below and tell us what you thought of the questions this time. I saw bassist Victor Krummenacher, one of my favorite music people, perform twice within three weeks last fall: with Camper Van Beethoven to end perhaps their last-ever tour in Washington, D.C.; and with the Third Mind, the improvisatory band also featuring Dave Alvin, in Milwaukee. Both shows were fantastic. Now Krummenacher has a new album, the cinematic Block Out the Sun, and is reflecting on the inevitable artistic collision between one's personal life and what's happening in the outside world. He also discusses an upcoming album collaboration between most of the Third Mind and former Fairport Convention singer (and Caropop guest) Iain Matthews; the recently announced Record Store Day release of Camper Van Beethoven's version of Fleetwood Mac's Tusk; Krummenacher's vision of a possible Camper future; and that David Lowery song that quotes something hostile that Krummenacher allegedly said to the Camper frontman when the band was first breaking up. I'm excited to bring you the first installment of "Talking At The Diner" for 2026.. the year of our lord. My guest on Ep. 54 is is none other than my bandmate from the John Faye Power Trip and IKE..... Drumroll please...... that's right, it's Cliff Hillis!
Now, even though Cliffy and I officially stopped playing together in 2006, we have never stopped supporting each other and getting back together when the stars aligned. Last year, in fact, we played a fun acoustic show together for Record Store Day at Forever Changes in Phoenixville, and we also got loud for the first time in a long time at the sold out IKE reunion show at MilkBoy in Philadelphia in May.The roots of our 3+ decade friendship go way back to our younger days in Delaware, where I first encountered Cliff playing around Newark in on of his first bands - The Name - while I was writing on filthy bar floors and wearing toilet seats around my neck as the front man of the Beat Clinic, the band that would later morph into the Caulfields. We continued to cross paths as his musical journey progressed in bands like Mystery Machine, Tisra Til, and Starbelly. The opportunity to play the first International Pop Overthrow festival in Los Angeles in 1998 put Cliff and me onstage together for the first time and we kept on rockin' until the end of 2006, which  was a tumultuous year for Cliff on a personal level. He lost both his parents that year and made the decision to part ways with IKE to pursue his own path. And the result of that decision has yielded a stupendous catalog of music, which scratches any power pop itch you may have.We met up in early January for a weekday hang at The Local in his longtime adopted hometown of Phoenixville, PA and had the kind of relaxed, familiar conversation that only two people who traveled the country in a van can have.I hope you enjoy our conversation!!

In our first episode of 2026, the legendary UK record producer, remixer, and dub pioneer Adrian Sherwood reflects on his fourth solo studio effort, The Collapse of Everything, released last summer on his On-U Sound label. He explains how the album's melodic, contemplative sonic headspace balances modern plugin technology with the raw, "breathing" energy of live performances. He also talks about many of his collaborators like Doug Wimbish and Brian Eno, but also dear departed cohorts such as Keith LeBlanc, Mark Stewart, and Lee "Scratch" Perry. Over his five-decade career, Sherwood has become synonymous with a distinctive "sound-scientist" approach to the mixing desk, most notably associated with the groundbreaking projects African Head Charge, the industrial-funk powerhouse Tackhead,  rhythmic explorers Dub Syndicate, and the seminal roots-dub band Creation Rebel.   The Record Store Day Podcast is a weekly music chat show written, produced, engineered, and hosted by Paul Myers, who also composed the theme music and selected interstitial music.  Executive Producers (for Record Store Day) Michael Kurtz and Carrie Colliton. We're simply having a wonderful holiday special, and you're invited.   While music fans may be divided about the merits of Paul McCartney's enduring holiday offering "Wonderful Christmastime," it's hard to deny that the Holidays are always packed with new releases from both of his legendary bands. 2025 brought us both the latest installment in The Beatles Anthology albums (and the updated streaming series), plus two projects that shine a spotlight on Macca's other band, Wings.   One was a new triple LP compilation, WINGS: The Definitive Self-Titled Collection, and the other is a book, the oral history Wings: The Story Of A Band On The Run, written by McCartney himself, and edited by our guest today, historian Ted Widmer, who talks about the process of working with McCartney and what he learned about the story of the ex-Beatle's overachieving second act.   And McCartney's current long-serving guitarist/bassist Brian Ray just got back from the band's worldwide Got Back Tour, and is here to share some of his insights about bringing the McCartney catalogue to life, Every Night. He also talks about some of his solo projects, including the recent RSD Black Friday double LP, Rock The Plaza, where Ray worked alongside legends like Paul Rodgers, Josh Homme, Alice Cooper, and Orianthi.    The Record Store Day Podcast is a weekly music chat show written, produced, engineered, and hosted by Paul Myers, who also composed the theme music and selected interstitial music.  Executive Producers (for Record Store Day) Michael Kurtz and Carrie Colliton. Record Store Day Black Friday 2025 is coming up on November 28th. This week and next week's episodes of the podcast will shine a spotlight on a few of the featured titles from the Black Friday List, which is up now at RecordStoreDay.com. This week, we welcome back "The Jazz Detective,"  Zev Feldman, and while of course he brought along some super cool jazz titles from Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Bill Evans, and Yusef Lateef, he's also branching out into blues with B.B. King, and even D.C. hardcore punk, with a historically charged release from Bad Brains. Honestly, we could listen to Zev talk about his projects for days.  And we'll play a sad train song for "Folk Hero" Todd Snider who passed away on November 14th.  The Record Store Day Podcast is a weekly music chat show written, produced, engineered, and hosted by Paul Myers, who also composed the theme music and selected interstitial music.  Executive Producers (for Record Store Day) Michael Kurtz and Carrie Colliton.
