As my guest Dr. Rick Chromey said, this episode is particularly fitting for today (Good Friday in the Christian faith). This was a really interesting, insightful, and entertaining conversation about grace, authenticity, faith, and God. Dr. Rick is a theologian, cultural historian, leadership professor, and inspirational speaker. He was super knowledgeable about history, specifically the history of Christianity, which made for a really rich conversation. We started the discussion talking about the concept of "grace." I found this really intriguing because as Rick first explained it, in many ways grace seems illogical. The idea of forgiving someone or showing someone deep love/grace when by all accounts they don't deserve it, when by all accounts showing them that grace might actually make things worse, seems crazy. How can we be OK with that? But Rick and I worked through it and came to a theory about how grace might actually be deeply logical. That lead us to a discussion about God, Adam and Eve, and if perhaps they ultimately made the right decision to "bite the apple." I recognize that sounds blasphemous (quite literally) but what made this conversation so good was that Rick was totally open to exploring this idea. We debated if, despite the utopia they lived in with God, they had to learn the truth about good, evil, and what the world was really all about. These are deep topics, but as I often say, I think there is so much value to engaging in a good faith exploration of them. I know I feel better off for having had this conversation and hearing Rick's views on grace, life, and God. Apologies too, there was a bit of audio issues at times, but nothing too major so hope you all enjoy it.

Leading With Style: How Your Unique Personality Drives Success and Creates Conflict Interview with Rick Chromey Rick's message for this interview: First, if I can lead (a nonprofit) then anyone can! I'm the reluctant leader who has, surprisingly, found nonprofit leadership to be a perfect fit for my aptitudes, skills, and personality. Second, nonprofit work is like being a lion on the Serengeti. Every day is about finding a gazelle to eat. Sometimes the prey comes to you, sometimes you have to go get it. Regardless, nonprofit leadership is about creating new opportunities, securing new financial resources, and leading your team to embrace “the dream” for which you labor. It's why leadership style matters. You're either a “chef” (active/cognitive), “game show host (active/emotive), “stage manager” (passive/cognitive) or “counselor” (passive/emotive) type of leader. Understanding your natural strengths, and knowing how to use them, is what creates productivity and progress. DR. Dr. Rick Chromey is a pastor, historian, educator, author, and speaker. The past 30 years have proven a unique chapter in history. We've transitioned into a new digital, cyber, wireless culture. Technology has reimagined how we work, learn, purchase, worship, and relax from smartphones to GPS, Amazon to Siri, and Twitter to YouTube TV. It's sparked great social movements, new political ideas, and transformative change. But all this innovation hasn't been without consequence. Research shows post-modern generations (born since 1960) are increasingly fearful, divisive, confused, angry, anxious, narcissistic, depressed, and suicidal. Dr. Rick has felt the same way at times...and understands how so many people can fall prey to these emotional triggers. I recognize how difficult it is to lead, teach, pastor and parent today. It's why he has made it his life's mission to help people interpret history, understand generational, social, and developmental contexts, navigate culture and create change, and, finally, understand our spiritual self and the nature of faith. Pastor Rick believes that when we know who we are, how we're motivated, why we behave, and what faith can accomplish, we discover peace, experience love, find joy and cultivate hope.

Keith Green (1953 – 1982), a pianist, singer and songwriter is best known for his strong devotion to Christ and challenging others to the same. Several of his songs are very well known around the world, including "Oh Lord, You're Beautiful", "Asleep in the Light", "Your Love Broke Through", "You Put This Love in My Heart" and "There Is a Redeemer", the last of which was written by his wife Melody.Along with eleven others, Keith Green died in a plane crash at the age of 29, having been a Christian only 7 years."A radical preacher. A former child television star. A confused spiritual seeker. A passionate prophet. A musical minstrel. And arguably one of the single most important artists in the history of contemporary Christian music. His music remains a staple for the spiritually aware and his power to influence since his tragic death only proves Keith Green's lasting charisma. Elvis has nothing on him." (Rick Chromey, a tribute on the Last Days Ministries website)Recorded January 28, 2018
