In this episode, Jamie speaks with Hayden Stafford, senior technology executive and current President and Chief Revenue Officer at Seismic. Hayden has led several go-to-market transformations at companies such as IBM, Microsoft, and Salesforce.com. He shares one of the keys to driving change successfully is to understand a company's metabolic rate, or the pace by which it can consume change. He describes his 3 leadership principles: clarity, empowerment, and accountability. He talks about the importance of communicating consistently and repetitively. He warns senior leaders to ensure they spend enough time IN the business, not just ON the business. Hayden wraps by talking about the human side to leadership and how important it is to focus on others and let others get to know you. Hayden is an exceptional leader and one that balances both warmth and drive. We had fun in this discussion, and I bet you will as well. During the episode, Hayden refers to the following work: Legacy: What the All Blacks Can Teach Us About the Legacy of Life by James Kerr Extreme Ownership: How U.S. Navy Seals Lead and Win by Jocko Willink and Leif Babin The Power of One by Bryce Courtenay Executive Access is produced by The Ideal Life, a platform that provides coaching, community, and content for people to grow both personally and professionally. *Please note that in this episode, the video quality on Jamie's camera is slightly out of focus due to an unexpected technical issue. We apologize for any inconvenience and assure you that we've taken steps to prevent this from happening in future episodes.

On the podcast this week, we have Kyle Smith! Kyle is a professional triathlete from New Zealand. Raised in Blackburn, UK on a diet of motocross and modern pentathlon, he moved to Taupo in his youth, found triathlon and set about becoming one of the best in the world. He is often first off the bike with blistering swim and bike splits, and this year he's been backing that up with solid run performances. As you'll hear, he prefers the middle distance events such as T100 and 70.3, but he's found success at every level from World Triathlon short course racing, to off-road XTERRA. After 2 frustrating years dogged by illness, Kyle has been showing his true potential in 2024. After winning the PTO Championship race in Samorin, he was beaten by the width of a running vest at the T100 event in San Francisco. He's currently 4th in the T100 rankings and is focussing on the World 70.3 championships in his home town of Taupo, NZ later this year. Conversation topics include: Why no one remembers the guy with the fastest bike split Building resilience through injury and illness Winning by learning to race smart Girona vs St Moritz - which is the best training location? "Winning takes talent, to repeat it takes character..."James Kerr is best known for his book; "Legacy - What the All Blacks can teach us about the business of life". Here James goes deep into the heart of the All Blacks distilling 15 practical lessons for leadership and business.Working with the All Blacks at a time where they reframed winning, "Legacy" best encapsulates the arc of a team who would go down in history. Champions do extra, they sweep the sheds, they keep a blue head, they are good ancestors. "He who has the best story wins" and in that fashion we learn of the prominent role storytelling has in building a culture and how you too can similarly utilise this. Where cultures either stagnate or regenerate, character is a requisite for continuing to play the game of life. Fuelled by positive emotion we learn all of this becomes very achievable once we shift our attention from what is this in service of to who.Listen to find out more including;- Why is storytelling important?- How the All Blacks regenerated their culture?- The All Blacks use of mantras in times of high pressure.- What tools do leaders need in order to grow a culture?- In today's digital age how ought training and development be used to accelerate growth in teams?Timestamps;00:00 - 03:38 - The End in Mind03:39 - 10:25 - Stories10:26 - 22:53 - Culture22:54 - 32:04 - Character32:05 - 36:56 - Ownership36:57 - 46:08 - Pressure46:09 - 54:25 - Whakapapa54:26 - 1:02:38 - EthosLegacy Book; https://www.amazon.com/Legacy-James-Kerr/dp/147210353XGet in touch;Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/conorwalsh1995/Twitter: https://twitter.com/cwalsh95?lang=enYouTube; https://www.youtube.com/@TheLowdownPodEmail: cwalsh95@outlook.ie

Today's episode is focuses on the topic of Legacy. We are joined for the conversation by James Kerr the author of the book, Legacy: What the All Blacks Can Teach Us About the Business of Life James' book is one of the most referenced by our interview guests, it has over 4000 5 star review on Amazon UK alone. He is a consultant to some of the world's top sporting and business organisations. And in this interview, he takes us inside his work with these groups and how they go about unlocking high performance. Some of his ideas that resonated deeply with us were: His belief that people will rise to a challenge if it's their challenge, and the quite amazing story he shares to illustrate this about Leicester winning the FA cup in England. His view that the story you tell yourself becomes the story that others end up telling about you. And how you can use to set up a team culture. And How the culture at the All Blacks New Zealand Rugby team is about stabbing people in the belly not the back. Legacy: What is your legacy? What does a leadership legacy mean to you? How do you want to be remembered? These are all questions I ask myself in Episode #16 of the In the Lead Show. We all have gifts. We all have talents. We all have immense value to bring to the world and I think it's important we explore with ourselves what that means to us and how we want to bring it forward. The way I look at legacy is like tiny fingerprints. Every moment, every interaction, every action is a fingerprint and we have the ability to constantly shape ourselves and others everyday and leave our mark (or our legacy) on the world. Don't wait until you're gone to be remembered, focus on things you can do now to leave that imprint and create your own living legacy. Jennifer Tsang is an ICF Leadership Coach who partners with executives, leaders & everyday people to build more consciousness into how they lead their teams and most importantly, themselves. She believes that leadership is an inside out approach. As someone who has worked on her own personal development and self-leadership for over 15 years, she started her coaching practice in 2020 to help others discover how to lead themselves and grow professionally and personally. Today, Jennifer offers a wide variety of programs and services – from individual coaching, to group and team coaching and facilitated group conversations. Show Highlights: Identify ways that you can define and cultivate your living legacy. EPISODE SUMMARY INTRODUCTION: Garrett Gunderson came from a long line of coal miners. His father, grandfather, and great-grandfather were all coal miners. And yet he NEVER set foot in a mine. His parents invested time, money and love into him so that he would have the resources and confidence to create new opportunities for himself and for his family. And that's just what he did. In 1994, he took 3rd place at the Rural Young Entrepreneur public speaking competition and was accepted into South Utah's Governor's Honors Academy alongside inventors, scientists, senators, and leaders. In 1996, he won Young Entrepreneur of the Year. In 1998, he was investing and earning more than his professors. Garrett continued with this sort of successful growth over the years. Personal losses of business partners and then of his parents cause him to stop and reflect and eventually write his first book, Killing Sacred Cows, in August 2008. The Great Recession between 2007 to 2009 was a difficult time for him and his family. He was over-leveraged with real-estate, doing all he could to hold it all together. His health and marriage suffered. Then, in 2010, he began to rebuild his marriage and his family while his partner handled the business. The Wealth Factory was created in 2014, with a vision to liberate one million people by supporting them to create financial independence. In 2017, Garrett decided to try comedy for the first time and thought he might be funny. After trying a few of these over the next couple of years, Garrett was ready to go the full sha-bang and he created a show to teach people about money through comedy. From humble beginnings, Jay grew his first business from 0-500 employees and three locations, racking up sales of over £30 million – all without any investment other than a small amount of savings. Recap: Those that have been GIVEN much, GIVE much 2 Things to Know: 1. God has been GENEROUS to me2. Because God has been generous to ME, I will be generous to OTHERS. Matthew 5:14-1614 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. LEGACY - What you leave BEHIND Living with a GENEROUS mentality will build an ETERNAL legacy. Living with a ME mentality will leave an EMPTY legacy. 1 Chronicles 29:10-11, 10 David praised the Lord in the presence of the whole assembly, saying,“Praise be to you, Lord, the God of our father Israel, from everlasting to everlasting.11 Yours, Lord, is the greatness and the powerand the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours. You break free from “Me” when you shift from: “Look what I HAVE” to “Look what God has GIVEN ME” John 3:12-1712 When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. “Do you understand what I have done for you?” he asked them. 13 “You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. 14 Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. 15 I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. 16 Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. 17 Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them. You are never more like Jesus than when you GIVE and when you SERVE
