A new initiative in Buchan called Sma Wids to encourage farmers and landowners to plant trees, the largest surviving ice house in the UK at Spey Bay, lapwing chick ringing in Upper Deeside, the rare dandelions of Shetland, the seabird village of Fowlsheugh near Stonehaven and the latest news from the osprey nest at Loch Garten plus the tale of a medieval drain at Paisley Abbey along with the dramatic demise of an orca whale at Spey Bay on the Moray Firth in the 1960s
The current cultural “pervasiveness” of animated media and the medium's durable status as a vital intermediary between ‘us' and ‘the world' is the focus of this latest Footnote episode, which tackles “Pervasive Animation” as it has been understood within Suzanne Buchan's 2013 anthology of the same name. Chris takes Alex through the requisite methodological challenges, considerations, and conundrums when looking at animation's many forms within contemporary moving image culture, as well as what Buchan says about the need to push animation's multiplicity of definitions towards aesthetic and critical intersections with everything from fine art and sculpture to videogames and medical imaging. Other topics include what this critical re-conceptualisation means for the variant sites, spaces, and interfaces of animation beyond the screen; how interdisciplinarity can critically account for the “pervasive” spread of animation and the possibility of academically studying the medium outside Film and Media Studies; and what all this means for animation itself as a complex and chaotic scholarly object. **Fantasy/Animation theme tune composed by Francisca Araujo** **As featured on Feedspot's 25 Best London Education Podcasts**

I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Wednesday morning, the 7th of May, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We start in the Gospel of Matthew 18:4. Jesus says: “Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” Have you ever seen a small little child of maybe three, four years old coming to a meeting, standing there so shy, so humble? Oh, you just want to pick up that child and just love them, don't you? Such innocence! We go to Philippians 2:7. Paul is talking about Jesus: “but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men.” I am talking about the King of Glory, the Lord of Lords, the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the greatest King who has ever lived, made Himself a servant, a bondservant. You know folks, we must remember that your attitude will determine your altitude and it just depends on how you conduct yourself. I have been humbled so many times in my own life and I just want to tell you a story, maybe I have told you before, but I think it is worth listening to again. I was invited to the palace of a great king. This king has over 13 million subjects. After we had met and spoken about the Lord and I had shared my testimony, he took me out to show me his grounds to show me a herd of beautiful cattle that belonged to him, and while the entourage was with him and we were standing together and admiring his cattle, a lady came up to me and said, “Can I speak to you?” And I said, “Yes”. She said, “Where can I get some tomato seedlings? I want to put them into my garden.” And I looked at her and I said, “Madam, I can tell you exactly where to get them. What is your office here in the palace?” Folks, I kid you not, she said, “Mr Buchan, I am the queen.” You know, I was looking for a hole that I could hide myself away, I was so embarrassed, but what a gracious lady - she never batted an eyelid, she just carried on talking. You must humble yourself in the sight of the Lord, otherwise you will be humbled. Now folks, let's go out today with a heart of humility.Jesus bless you and goodbye.

Send us a textNigel Buchan has been the head of production in the Southwest for over 30 years producing shows for Evening Star and then Live Nation. Before moving to Phoenix in the early 90's, Nigel who hails from England was a successful touring sound engineer mixing seminal bands like the original Motorhead, Judas Priest during their British Steel era and Van Halen's legendary 1984 tour. Nigel tells Matt and I classic stories about Lemmy's hijinks and witnessing the break-up of the original Van Halen. He is one of our industry's true legends.
Our Lead Pastor at Paisley, Buchan explored and asked the question "What's your perspective?" Helping us understand the power of our perspective and how we view all situations, really does determine the outcome, whether good or bad. With the importance of our perspective, also comes with the importance of being grateful, regardless of what life throws at us.

Want to bike down the Pacific Coast or through Patagonia? Then listen to guest Laura Buchan share her experiences of doing just that. Laura's first experience of bike touring was taken in Taiwan - on an unlikely trip on a folding bike. She was hooked and since then she has toured extensively on solo trips from Vancouver to the Mexican border, as well as the rugged terrains of Chile and Argentina. Laura faced numerous challenges during these journey's - her bike tour down the Pacific Coast was meant to be undertaken as a team of two, but just a month before setting off her friend had to pull out, leaving solo to take it on solo. Then grim weather during her tour of Patagonia made for a challenging time, but Laura's resilience and the kindness of strangers shone through her narratives.Laura also shares some awe-inspiring moments in Torres del Paine National Park, and her overall reflections on human connection, confidence-building, and overcoming adversityFollow Laura on Instagram - @Laura_Is_On_Earth or via her website - Lauraisonearth.comClick to send me a text message and let me know what you think of the showSupport the Show.Enjoying Seek Travel Ride? I greet you in Jesus' precious name. It is Tuesday morning, the 20th of August, 2024, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We go to the Book of Isaiah 42:3:”A bruised reed He will not break, And smoking flax He will not quench;…” We're talking about gentle Jesus. He is so gentle that He will not even break a bent reed or extinguish a smouldering reed.We go to Matthew 19:14:”But Jesus said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven.”You see, the disciples were trying to protect the Lord. He had been preaching all day long, and He was exhausted. He was sitting underneath a tree, probably trying to have a rest, and the parents were bringing their children to the Master because they wanted Him to bless their children. The disciples rebuked the parents and said, “Don't bring your children here, the Lord is tired. He needs to have a rest.” What did He do? He said to the disciples,” Don't do that, bring them to me.” And He laid his hands upon them and He blessed them. I want to say to you today, we need to be gentle, our Master is gentle. We need to have patience with children and with the old people, and with those who are not prominent, and not just chase after people that can help us. Our Lord is very gentle and He is very kind. The Bible says He won't break a bent reed or extinguish a smouldering reed. When I was a young man farming, I would often come in and have a cup of tea with Jill. I would be sitting in the kitchen and a visiting fertiliser representative or herbicide representative would come to visit to get some business. I would be sitting, having my cup of tea, looking through the kitchen door, and I would see him get out of the car, and I watched the way he treated my little children who were playing in the garden. Some of them would come in and not even see the children, they were so busy trying to get business. They would walk right past them and ignore them, and then my dog would come up, and he would push the dog away, not interested, and then he would come and knock on the door and with a big smile, he would say, “Good morning Mr Buchan, can we have a chat?” The answer was normally, “No, not today. I am too busy.”Then another representative would arrive on the farm, much later, and he would get out of the pick-up and he would walk in through the back gate, and I would be sitting there having my tea, and he would see the children in the garden and he would stop and walk over and get on his knees and have a little chat to them, find out what their name was, and “How are you? Is your dad here?” And the little one would take him by the hand and bring him to me, but as he was walking past, he would stop and pat the dog and say, “That's a nice dog you have got!” And then knock on the door and say, “Mr Buchan, I would like to speak to you about some business,” and I would probably say, “Come in and have a cup of tea and let's do the deal.”Folks, we need to be so careful how we live. We need to be like Jesus, gentle and loving.God bless you and have a wonderful day,Goodbye.
I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Saturday morning, the 8th of June, 2024, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. If we go to the Gospel of Matthew 1:1: “The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham:…” Then it goes right right the way back and up to the present moment. Jesus has always been and always will be. The family tree is an important thing in most people's lives. Where did you come from? Who were your forefathers? Well, I am just going to share a couple of personal things with you. My mother came from Scotland, and so did my dad. On my mother's side, her mother was a Livingstone, and I am hoping that maybe there is a connection between the great missionary, Dr David Livingstone, and our family. On my father's side, his mother was a Finney. You have heard of the great American evangelist, Charles Finney, who really started a massive revival in America. Then of course, our family name, Buchan. There is a county in Scotland, in the north-east of Scotland, just past Aberdeen, called the Buchan County, and my first name, Angus, is also after another county, just south of Dundee. This is all about roots, it's about family trees. But I want to be honest with you, my dear friend, when you come to know Jesus Christ, as your Lord and Saviour, it doesn't matter if you are an orphan, and you say you have no roots, you have no family tree - that doesn't matter a thing. When you become a Christian, you become part of the family of Jesus Christ, and that family dates back to Adam and Eve. So if we are believers, that makes you my brother, my sister, and I have family all over the world, in China, in India, in Africa, in the Far East. Josh Buchan was on double duty last weekend at The Bend, winning the TCR round and then finishing 2nd in the GT 4 Pro-Am Cup.
Scottish writer John Buchan is perhaps best known for his pioneering thriller The Thirty-Nine Steps, the source material for one of Alfred Hitchcock's first great films. But as his biographer (and granddaughter) Ursula Buchan tells Jacke, Buchan was far from a one-hit wonder. John Buchan wrote more than a hundred books of fiction and non-fiction and a thousand newspaper and magazine articles - and he was just getting started. Ursula's book Beyond the Thirty-Nine Steps: A Life of John Buchan depicts the remarkable life of this twentieth-century writer (and scholar, antiquarian, barrister, journal editor, war correspondent, member of parliament, director of wartime propaganda, Governor-General of Canada, and more!). PLUS Jacke reads a special letter by Ernest Hemingway, and Marsha Gordon (Becoming the Ex-Wife: The Unconventional Life and Forgotten Writings of Ursula Parrott) stops by to discuss her choice for the last book she will ever read. Interview with Andrew Benitz, CEO of Jersey Oil & Gas PLCRecording date: 12th February 2024Jersey Oil & Gas has firmly transitioned its Greater Buchan Area licenses into a funded and de-risked staged development. Having proven an optimal concept through engineering studies, the company has attracted capable partners to fund activities through to first oil. With full funding secured against only 20% equity, Jersey offers investors asymmetric risk-reward in realizing tremendous stranded value.During 2021 and 2022, Jersey Oil & Gas attracted North Sea heavyweights Neo Energy and Serica Energy to participate in the Greater Buchan Area redevelopment. On matching terms, the partners will fund 100% of costs including Jersey's 20% share in return for an 80% licence stake. Cash payments to Jersey total $38 million, providing a strong balance sheet into the funded phases ahead. Partners were selected based on financial strength, strategic alignment and operational capability. The base case involves redeploying the Jadestone Energy operated Voyageur FPSO, requiring only minor modifications before being positioned over existing Buchan wells. First oil remains on target for late 2026 based on only modest facilities workscope. The development base case comprises five production wells and two water injectors, with pressure support from underlying aquifers expected to boost recovery above 50% of oil in place. Significantly enhancing economics, operating costs are forecast below $15/bbl.Partners are fully funding a comprehensive FEED study currently underway, together with all activities through to FDP approval in 2024. Based on the approved development budget, Jersey's 20% equity share will also be fully carried through the construction and commissioning phase. With no further funding required, Jersey shareholders are fully leveraged to benefit from significant value catalysts in the years ahead. Jersey's market capitalisation stands at only 25% of its estimated post-tax core NAV.Key upcoming catalysts centre around FDP approval, then demonstration of consistent progress through the funded development phase. First oil remains targeted for 2026, whereafter Jersey transforms into a cash generative oil producer. Event-driven rerating of Jersey's valuation upside should occur as de-risking continues on the pathway to production. For investors, the risk-reward asymmetry in entering at the current valuation is uniquely compelling. In summary, Jersey has positioned itself for funded success from a stranded North Sea discovery. Future newsflow offers shareholders multiple opportunities to benefit from substantial incremental value creation. The company represents a high confidence value opportunity underpinned by committed partners and a fully financed work program.—View Jersey Oil & Gas company profile: https://www.cruxinvestor.com/companies/jersey-oil-and-gas-plcSign up for Crux Investor: https://cruxinvestor.com

Many times, on our podcast, I ask guests what they are most proud of. Well, on today's episode, I am beaming with pride to have such a distinguished investment professional who despite incredible success, continues to give back in so many ways. Her curiosity, love for learning, willingness to challenge, and break barriers have contributed to her numerous accomplishments and legacy, while giving back those representing the future. Jane Buchan has thirty-four years of experience in investment management and portfolio construction with institutional investors and is currently Chief Executive Officer of Martlet Asset Management, a family office established in 2018. Prior to founding Martlet, Jane was CEO of PAAMCO, a fund of hedge funds, which she co-founded in 2000. Under her leadership, the firm grew to $32 billion in assets under management. She began her career at J.P. Morgan Investment Management in the Capital Markets Group, has been an Assistant Professor of Finance at Dartmouth, and recently served as chairwoman of the board for CAIA and is a member of the Advisory Board for the Master of Financial Engineering Program at UCLA Anderson School of Management. In addition, Jane is currently serving on the boards of AGF Management Ltd. and Globe Life, where our local baseball team who just won the World Series calls home. Jane has won so many awards we don't have time to list them all. Just know she is a rock star in our industry and has been actively involved in initiatives to advance the careers of women in finance and is a founding Angel for 100 Women in Finance. Jane holds both a Ph.D. and an MA in Business Economics (Finance) from Harvard and earned a BA in Economics from Yale. Today, Jane shares her amazing professional journey, commitment to education, and why she is so excited about the future of our industry.
Jane Buchan is CEO of Martlet Asset Management, based in Newport Beach CA. She was one of the co-founders of Pacific Alternative Asset Management in 2000, which grew to $32 bn n AUM under her leadership. She was been a chair of the Board of CAIA as well as an Assistant Professor of Finance at the Amos Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth and has a number of Board roles. Jane's career straddles academic life and an entrepreneurial and business one, and she describes how her time as a professor taught her to be comfortable being an outsider, and confident in challenging the status quo. We follow her into consulting and then into striking out boldly to service a select group of large institutions - the genesis of what became PAAMCO. The unique structure and approach taken by PAAMCO led it to stand apart from peers, and we discuss some birthing pains that launching a new approach entailed. Moving to her current portfolio of roles, we examine the growth of group think in governance structures, and how developing a voice should be approached. We move then to topics of leadership, decision making and mentorship. Overall this is a richly layered conversation from one of the founders of the approach to hedge funds as we know it among institutions today. This bonus series is kindly supported by Sound Mark Partners. Sound Mark Partners LLC is a women-owned and led private credit firm focused on commercial real estate.
There is a strong nexus between being a good black-letter lawyer and being a trusted business adviser. For Heela Arsala, this means understanding and learning from internal stakeholders so as to ensure alignment between what is being negotiated and drafted and optimal business outcomes. In this episode of The Corporate Counsel Show, host Jerome Doraisamy is joined by Buchan general counsel Heela Arsala (who was a finalist in the GC of the Year category at the 2023 Women in Law Awards) to discuss what it's like working as an in-house lawyer for an architectural firm and her reflections on such work in recent years amid the global pandemic, why authenticity is so critical in drafting contracts for one's business, especially when it comes to urgent priorities such as environmental, social and governance considerations. Ms Arsala also delves into the need to retain and make time for the black-letter legal skills to best support one's business, why being a good lawyer makes one a good business adviser, bringing other business units along for the ride in negotiating contractual clauses, having broader awareness of corporate behaviour, and looking ahead to growth phases and how to support one's business through such a transition. On this episode of the Scouting For Growth podcast, Sabine VdL talks to Amy Buchan Siegfried, an experienced founder, CEO, entrepreneur, investor, and speaker. Amy is the Co-Founder of Last Night's Game, a platform that breaks down sports in an easy-to-understand way, through email and weekly podcasts. She also serves as the “on-air talent” and face for the company. From creation to execution, Amy has managed organisations and significant initiatives, including fundraising, marketing, program development, and community relations to empower others with ideas, information, mentorship experience, and resources. Sports Tech includes over 17,000 startups ventures 30% of which have raised $35 billion of VC funding with 11 active unicorns. Business models range from fantasy sports, eSports or Casino games to Fitness and Wellness tech often used in health insurance. On this episode the pair discuss Amy the investor, the entrepreneur and the women in tech, why Last Night's Game, niche markets yield success, the challenge and the opportunity for women entrepreneurs, and tips and best practices. KEY TAKEAWAYS I love to recognise the talent of those that are out there hustling trying to make things happen, and making those connections and making things happen for them. You want to support those who have the ideas, what's 15-30 minutes of my time for somebody who's trying to make their thing happen? Getting things started and taking the first step is the hardest part, if you can give that extra vote of confidence or ideas or connections, that can help them be successful. The ideas to differentiate yourself only come from talking to others because, when you're the founder, you're stuck in your own head and don't see all those other things. Be a sounding board, be available. Last Night's Game was set up about 20 years ago. I was working as an intern at the Arizona Diamondbacks MLB team and one of my girlfriends asked why certain things were happening and I thought she was really missing out on an opportunity to connect with her co-workers. We were working in a male-dominated industry and sports is a common language that allows you to level the playing field in the office. So, I thought about how to teach her about sports in an interesting way. My brother and I devised a way to make sports approachable so they could use it in day-to-day interactions, or dates, etc. But it took until 14 years later before we had the time to work on and launch it. I'm successful because of what I learned in the corporate world. It was a good structure for me. So often now the corporate world is depicted as the bad character in a movie, but it's not, there's a lot we can learn from it. You learn to work as a team in the corporate environment, you have to work in someone else's structure, alongside personalities that are not like you. There's still a way the corporate world can evolve, and we should all be evolving no matter how big your business is so that we don't end up as a ‘has-been' company that nobody wants to work with. The foundation of having relationships is still critical today. We're more connected than ever but more removed than ever. How do we maximise and humanise that connection? Get out and meet people, build relationships. If you're not comfortable being the people person, hire someone who is. It's the same as building a team around you that isn't like you, doesn't think like you, doesn't live on the same block as you. A diverse team brings a different perspective, and everyone has their different talents. BEST MOMENTS‘Sports is like food: It's a common language that we can all speak, everywhere you go has a national dish and a national sport and everyone's really proud of that.'‘How are you making yourself different from everybody else? That is how you get funded, if you're different that's an excellent thing.'‘The biggest challenge in investing in businesses, from an angel investor viewpoint, is that everyone wants to be everything to all people. You can't be, it's not possible. Identify your target market.'‘Our whole goal is short and sweet. We all know we have information overload, but we crank out a lot of content.' ABOUT THE GUESTAfter seeing how the ability to talk sports gave her the upper hand as a woman in business, Amy and her brother Scott created Last Night's Game to give their friends the same advantage. Last Night's Game empowers its readers to join the sports conversation, even if they don't know the first thing about sports. Her career has included working for a Major League Baseball team and in other male-dominated industries. A third-generation entrepreneur, Amy once flew around the world in 58 hours and 37 minutes, has lived internationally and is a master of small talk, bringing people together and the handwritten note. You can often find this married lady working with the entrepreneurship community nationwide and teaching her toddler about sports, food and other things he'll have to use to make small talk one day.Reach out to Amy: https://www.linkedin.com/in/amybsiegfried/ About Last night's gameEmpowering you with the latest sports and pop culture news, so you never have to resort to talking about the weather. Four hours northwest of the central city of Melbourne, located in the southeast region of the continent, lies the vast and protected 1.6 million-acre Alpine National Park. Known as the adventure lovers' dream, the park's mountains make up part of what is known as the Great Dividing Range and offer stunning views of towering ridges, lush wildflower valleys, and majestic waterfalls. Plenty of camping, skiing, and hiking can be enjoyed if one is so inclined. However excellent the travel brochure for the Australian Alps may sound, locals understand that the landscape can also be a nightmare for people who are not adequately prepared. Victoria is home to at least four venomous snakes and any number of bees, wasps, ticks, and spiders. So when a local farmer driving to town saw two half-naked, sunburnt people stumble on the road before him, he realized they must have been lost in the park and immediately stopped to help them. The couple, seventeen-year-old Carolynne Watson and twenty-two-year-old Julian Buchwald were taken to Buchan police station. The story that unfolded was the stuff of nightmares, harrowing.Join Cam and Jen as they discuss 'Terror in the Bushland.'This episode of OTCP is sponsored by Rothy's.
