When our children become adults we often have many unfilled expectations.  My clients often compound the situation by using the word "should" regarding what they are or are not doing. The word "should" implies judgement and judgement never feels good in the normal sense that we use the word.  The "should" thought doesn't solve the problem, rather it feeds the story of why things have gone wrong.  I good place to start is catching yourself thinking the word and then changing it to want or would.  "You should call me more often. ...Would you call me more often?....I want them to call me as often as they want to call".  Just try seeing how long you can go without saying or thinking the word 'should"?  Tune in for more insights and examples. If you enjoyed this podcast and want to start finding out how to work with me, go to the following resources:Go to bonnielyman.com to: *Book a 60 minute consult with me;  click HERE*Sign up for my weekly newsletter:  click HERE*Receive my free resource,  Three Steps To Being Yourself In Your Relationships With Adult Children.        NEW RESOURCE!Follow me on IG and FB....@bonnielymancoaching

Not only from their faith, but also from coping with the challenges of life in a healthy way.  He gets his insights from Jacob 4 and 5 in the Book of Mormon.  Even if you are not a member of this faith, I think you will find his words very comforting and hopeful.  I quote him:  "Most of the epidemic of family despair in the Church today is optional....Satan entices us to satisfy our immediate hunger for resolution by surrendering either our beliefs or our optimism".  Listen to my insights and personal stories on this podcast.  I would encourage you to read Jacob 4 and 5 in the Book of Mormon; then read the article below."Jacob's Answer to Parental Despair:  The Olive Tree and the Antichrist", Joseph GrennyIf you enjoyed this podcast and want to start finding out how to work with me, go to the following resources:Go to bonnielyman.com to:*Book a 60 minute consult with me;  click HERE*Sign up for my weekly email:  click HERE*Receive my free resource,  Three Steps To Being Yourself In Your Relationships With Adult Children.        NEW RESOURCE!Email address:  bonnie@bonnielyman.com

This week's newsletter article: “Communities Impact Children's Lives in Powerful Ways.” Happy Independence Day everyone! We know times are tough right now in this country. Mass shootings have rocked us once again. Inflation is high and economic troubles loom. A series of Supreme Court decisions have left you either elated or saddened depending upon your point of view. American democracy faces a five-alarm fire—each passing week we find out just how close we were to losing our democracy, and how little stands in the way of a successful coup in the future. So what is the path forward? Do we take all of this as a sign of impending decline and brace ourselves for the end of the great American experiment? Or do we treat this as an inflection point where we realize what a great country this is, how very much we have to lose, and decide to get back to the basics and ideals that have stood the test of time, such as honesty, truth, civility, democracy, and so forth? This country has done so many great things and has the potential to do so much more if we can come together, heal what has been damaged, and emerge a stronger society on the other side. Such a vision should give us hope and optimism this July 4th. It will not be easy and it will not be quick, but it is necessary and it is achievable. Now on to the show. . . Segment 1: We Should Have Paid Attention in Math Class In segment one of this Utterly Moderateepisode, host Lawrence Eppard is joined by James Zimring, a professor in the University of Virginia's School of Medicine, to discuss his new book, Partial Truths: How Fractions Distort Our Thinking. Here is an excerpt from the book's description: “A fast-food chain once tried to compete with McDonald's quarter-pounder by introducing a third-pound hamburger―only for it to flop when consumers thought a third pound was less than a quarter pound because three is less than four. . . James C. Zimring argues that many of the mistakes that the human mind consistently makes boil down to misperceiving fractions. We see slews of statistics that are essentially fractions, such as percentages, probabilities, frequencies, and rates, and we tend to misinterpret them. . . Blending key scientific research in cognitive psychology with accessible real-life examples, Partial Truths helps readers spot the fallacies lurking in everyday information, from politics to the criminal justice system, from religion to science, from business strategies to New Age culture.” Segment 2: A New Resource for Fighting Misinformation (segment starts around the 50-minute mark) In the second segment we are joined by Arjun Moorthy, co-founder of The Factual, a website that uses an innovative method to help determine whether news sources are credible or not: artificial intelligence. Life was good....I was married to a wonderful husband with 5 amazing children.  One night my husband said "We haven't gotten our licks yet".  Not too long after, major challenges surfaced in our family's life.  Challenges I would not sell to have them taken back but challenges I would never wish for anyone to experience.  How did I survive?  A lot of tears but a lot of giving love.  I believe I was given the gift to love difficult people; from an upbringing, absent of support and love, I gained resilience; from having faith in a Supreme Being I was given strength and promptings to choose love.  Even when our children do not choose to live values we esteem highly, choosing love can keep our family unit together....forever.  Love is accepting, listening and seeking to understand those that think differently than we do.If you enjoyed this podcast and want to start finding out how to work with me, go to the following resources:Go to bonnielyman.com to:*Book a 60 minute consult with me;  click HERE*Sign up for my weekly email:  click HERE*Receive my free resource,  Three Steps To Being Yourself In Your Relationships With Adult Children.        NEW RESOURCE!

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 14, 2022 3:17

Welcome to The Nonlinear Library, where we use Text-to-Speech software to convert the best writing from the Rationalist and EA communities into audio. This is: New Resource: EA Workplace and Professional Group Directory, published by High Impact Professionals on June 14, 2022 on The Effective Altruism Forum. We at High Impact Professionals have published an EA Workplace and Professional Group Directory. As the name implies, the directory lists out all of the active EA groups both in workplaces (e.g. EAs at Google) and for industries (e.g. EAs in Finance). Purpose We believe that EA workplace and professional groups can be very impactful and to date haven't been supported sufficiently relative to their impact potential. We created this directory so that working professionals in the community can easily join a group for their workplace or industry and thus engage more with EA. We also hope the directory will illuminate which workplaces and industries don't have a group in the hopes that EAs hungry for more impact start them up, especially at (but not limited to!) promising places. What You Can Do If you are an EA working professional, there are many ways you can use the directory: You can join a group at your organization or for your industry. The best way to contact the group is listed in the directory. If you don't find an existing group for your organization or industry you can talk to us about what starting a group could look like. We believe this can be a very high-impact way that professionals can take EA action and to this end we have been consulting with many new and existing groups to help ensure their success. If you find any out of date information you can let us know. This could be one of many things: a group should appear that isn't listed, a group that is listed as active is now dead, a group's organizer has changed, etc. We have done the best we could to ensure all information is up to date, but we likely missed some things and we request the community's help in keeping the directory accurate. As stated above, we are currently working with many group organizers to help maximize the impact of their group, so if you are running a group and haven't been in touch, please reach out. We would love to talk through how we can support your group. Finally, it should be noted that we asked each group organizer if they wanted to have their group publicly listed and not everyone has gotten back to us. That means that there are many other groups we know about that don't yet appear in the directory. We hope to hear back from these organizers so that the list is more complete, so feel free to check periodically for updates. You can also reach out to us privately to see whether or not there is a group for your company/industry that isn't currently listed. About HIP HIP's mission is to enable working professionals to maximize their positive impact by supporting them in utilizing their time, skills and resources effectively. We are currently focusing on creating and supporting EA workplace and professional groups and helping EAs to run workplace initiatives. You can read more about this in our introduction post or on our website. We plan to make our research and strategy transparent so that others in the community can both benefit from them and improve them. We prefer posting shorter and more concise results, and posting these more often, over posting longer, more detailed posts less often. We are, of course, open to discussing our methodology in more depth: the curious need only reach out. We welcome feedback - just post a comment below. For more general inquiries, please contact us. Boulder, Colorado based digital marketing agency, The Creative Alliance, has a new resource on customer service KPIs and user experience design. If you've ever been on the receiving end of a frantic call from a customer, you know that it takes a great deal of patience and understanding to de-escalate the situation, address their concerns, and turn their disappointment into delight at a satisfactory resolution. It also takes a great deal of empathy, which is an important common thread between great customer service and exceptional user experience (UX) design. In growing companies that don't have UX design teams, customer service representatives often bear the burden of compensating for poor interface design by filling in the information gaps and handling tasks a user can't complete on their own. This can leave a customer service team feeling like it's drowning in a flood of calls, emails, and endless negative feedback.Leveraging Metrics to Inform UX DesignWhen you're ready to make the long-term investment in better UX in order to take some stress off your customer service team (and to increase conversions as a bonus!), where do you begin? How might you better understand the unmet needs of your customers? And if your goal is to reduce the friction customers experience when interacting with your website or apps and support higher interaction volumes, how will you gauge the success of the UX enhancements you make? The key is to gather data both before and after a UX-improvement initiative. Changes in customer service metrics can not only help you identify the areas that need attention, but they can also help you determine the effectiveness of the UX changes implemented to address those customer roadblocks.A Deeper Dive for More Helpful InsightsMany customer relationship management (CRM) systems can track key customer service metrics, like:Call and email volumeCSAT (customer satisfaction)FRT (first response time)AHT (average handle time)These are great metrics when you want a bird's eye view of your support operations. They not only indicate how your customers feel about the support they're receiving, but also the products or services you're offering. However, these figures are really just scratching the surface. Let's say you're experiencing a spike in email volume and a drop in customer satisfaction. Your natural response will likely be, “Why?”Undesirable changes in KPIs should prompt research into the cause or causes of those changes. Capturing and analyzing both quantitative and qualitative feedback can help you pinpoint the source of poor customer experiences and then develop and implement changes to correct the problem. In our example, you might begin by determining why an increasing number of customers are calling and emailing. Can you and your team identify the top five reasons for customer calls and emails? Of this list, are there any tasks a user can complete on their own, without customer service support? That might factor into the solution you implement. You may have a tool like Qualtrix to help automatically categorize customer interactions based on topics and sentiment. However, you don't necessarily need a tool of this caliber. Instead, you can devise ways to track topic and sentiment using your CRM system. For example, in Zendesk, you

Cabral Gold Inc. is a TSX-V and OTC listed junior exploration and development company focused on the advancement of its flagship, district-scale Cuiú Cuiú gold project, located in the Tapajós region, Brazil. The Cuiú Cuiú gold project hosts two primary gold deposits, namely the MG gold deposit as well as the Central gold deposit. The MG deposit is open down-dip and contains 400,000 ounces of gold in the inferred category. The Central Deposit of the Cuiú Cuiú gold project hosts 170,000 ounces of gold in the indicated category and 314,000 ounces of gold in the inferred category. The company recently reported assay results of four diamond drill holes drilled at the Central gold deposit of the project. The assay results which include mineralisation of up to 14.9 g/t of gold support the company's theory that a gold-in-oxide mineralisation zone sits above the primary central gold deposit. Cabral Gold Inc. also recently published the assay results of six diamond-drill holes drilled at the MG deposit. The assay results include highlights such as 17.5 m of mineralisation at a grade of 4.0 g/t gold including an intercept of 10.5 g/t of gold over 5.5 m. The company believes that the drilling program at the MG deposit continues to show that the deposit hosts a high-grade mineralisation zone. The company also published assay results of nine diamond drill holes drilled at the project's PDM target. The assay results show mineralisation including 3.2 g/t of gold over 6.5 m, which includes 39.5 g/t of gold over 0.5 m. Cabral Gold Inc. believes that the assay results continue to suggest the presence of another primary gold deposit in basement granitic rocks.

Schools, municipalities, nonprofits and small for-profit companies that want to go solar typically don't have the resources to do so on their own. They need investors in clean energy projects to make it work.Yet local EPCs tend to shy away from selling third-party-owned solar PPA projects to their customers and focus solely on cash deals. So, how do we facilitate a working relationship between local EPC solar installers and the investors who want to finance these kinds of C&I projects in the small utility space?Marc Palmer is the Cofounder and CEO of New Resource Solutions, a company developing software tools to reduce the soft costs associated with financing C&I solar projects in the US. Episode Summary: In this bonus episode, I share about a great resource for teaching your elementary-aged kids about church history in a fun way. This is a new book series by Danika Cooley called the Who What Why? Series. It includes three books: Who Was Martin Luther? What Was the Gutenberg Bible? Why Did the Reformation Happen? This book series has history, culture, theology, humor, and the gospel all in an easy-to-read, fun collection. I love Danika Cooley's style of writing. It feels like I am listening to a mom playfully telling her kids stories from church history. The book is filled with grace and truth, as Cooley lovingly corrects the poor theology that caused the Reformation and points the reader to the gift of salvation through Christ alone. Such a great resource for Christian families!
