Episode # 202 “I want to take it (my music career) as far as I can”, says singer Sarah Moon. Charismatic, riveting, and commanding are a just a few terms that describe what she brings as singer and performer. While paying respectful homage to a few of her influences including Etta James, Chris Cornell, classic rock and old school blues, her voice and style with hints of classic rock are all her own and she drives home point all the way home on her new record, "Cut & Run". Growing up in a household where her parents worked in live music production, music has always been, in some form or fashion, a big part of what Sarah is about. Call it fate or maybe the subliminal effect of hearing her mother singing around the house, Sarah began singing as a child and landed a gig with the Rapid City Children's Chorus. She then received classical training and continued her musical journey recording music and regularly gigging at venues in Oregon and Canada. Sarah is ready to make a statement with her latest recording and bring her music to the world. Moon assembled an all star team of sorts to bring her musical vision into fruition. Along with her powerful and unique voice, the record features talented writing partner, guitarist, backing vocalist and co-producer Brandon Cook, co-producer keyboardist and percussionist Andy Korn, hard hitting drummer Kyle Baltus, bassist Allen Huter and features guest appearances by Jean-Pierre Garau on keys, The Davis Sisters on vocals, with Lewis Dragulin and Jon Van Cula adding horns to the fold. Ingrid Boulting was raised primarily by her grandparents in South Africa as her parents went to pursue careers in England and France. Her mother was a model and actress, and her father was a writer and director. She herself moved to London when she was 7, and she herself went to "a show-biz school" before being selected for the Royal Ballet School. It was a rough adjustment, as Afrikaans was her first language. She landed her first of many magazine covers ("Queen Magazine") when she was 12 years and the rest is history. Through it all, her first love was and remains painting. She has (had) an exhibit at the Ojai Art Center through the end of April, and has focused mostly on still life. Another lifelong love has been yoga, she is the owner of Sacred Space studio, where she integrates her spirituality and love of nature into her practice. Ingrid was a favorite muse of French photographer Sarah Moon and was known for her delicate features and ethereal air. Ford Models founder Eileen Ford herself recruited Ingrid, though she resisted modeling as a full-time career, giving priority to acting on the stage and screen, as well as painting. She flourished in the 1970s and 1980s, co-starring with Robert DeNiro in Elia Kazan-directed "The Last Tycoon," and was the "Biba Girl" with the English cosmetics company. She has family all over the world, but has lived in Ojai since the mid-1980s, introduced by Guy and Leone Webster. "It either won't let you leave, or it kicks you out," she said. Ingrid's various moves between theater, film and modeling continued, but Ojai has always been home base. Among her many careers, Ingrid also learned from White Lotus owner Frank White, the renowned yoga teacher, who started when he was 68 and trained several generations of teachers. He mentored Ingrid into teaching yoga, which she continues at Sacred Space Studio. We also talked about our shared love of Ojai, its distinct aroma, its resemblance to the south of France, her pets, the perils of poor city planning and the constant threats Ojai faces. We did not talk about IRS forms, baseball's new rules or allergy season. You can check out more about Ingrid and her art at her website, IngridBoulting.com. zemiro de Souza, conhecido como Miro, fotógrafo representado pela Galeria Houssein Jarouche, nasceu em Bebedouro e mudou-se para São Paulo em 1968, onde vive e trabalha.

Tune in this week for a special conversation between our very own Michelle Lee and returning guest, Dr. Sarah Moon. As two Asian American women, they discussed how they've been dealing with the increases in Asian hate crimes over the past few years. They explored how Michelle is equipping her young daughters to know and love who they are, in ways she didn't have herself. You'll also get to hear why you should strive for inefficiency to spend more time focusing on the things you value and love.In this episode, you'll learn:Why the important, meaningful, purposeful things in life require inefficiency. The ways a focus on achievement affects our lives, health, and self-worth.How letting go of your idea of a routine can help you reclaim your time and enjoy the moments you're in.That you should acknowledge the work and thought that you invest in the lead-up to your accomplishments, not just the success itself. How to reevaluate the demands of your job to give yourself the space you need to thrive.About the fear, anxiety, and complex feelings both women have dealt with because of anti-Asian violence.Michelle's experience with equipping and preparing her daughters for the situations they may face. What their six-year-old selves would be proud of in their current selves. Why it's also important for Dr. Moon to remind herself that she's not that six-year-old self anymore.Ways to hold and honor the ways people might fail you without saying that what they did was okay.Other links:The full article from Nicole Chung that Moon reads can be found here.Listen to Beth Waterman's full episode here and Alice Armitage's episode here.Moon can be found on Instagram here.

The Show with Edmund Mitchell

This has been the toughest video I've ever had to make. We wanted to share why I've decided to resign from my job as Director of Evangelization and Catechesis at our church and what's next for us. If you've been following along, thank you so much for the support and encouragement along the way. What started as a fun creative outlet has taken on a much bigger role in how our family feels called to live as missionary disciples in our city, Grapevine TX. The patreon has evolved over the years as the mission and focus has evolved. First it was to support producing a video-podcast, then it was to get into a studio, and now it's getting even bigger - sharing our journey of building a mission-driven space and community. If you thought I was making lots of crap for the internet before, just you wait to experience full time freelancer Edmund. It's gonna get weird. And good. If you feel called to support The Studio in Grapevine on patreon, it would mean the world to us. Check it out at www.patreon.com/thestudiograpevine AMDG! Elle a coorganisé l'exposition “Magnum Manifesto”, présentée à l'International Center of Photography de New York (catalogue, Actes Sud/Thames&Hudson, 2017). We talk about how powerful these lesser known placements can be in a person's chart, the importance of recognizing how life moves in cycles, occult associations with the asteroids, and also have an open dialogue about the polarization of the masculine and feminine in astrology, and what it means to queer the field of study and help it adapt to become more inclusive for people of all walks of life. This is a very nuanced subject, and we did out best to be as clear and inclusive as possible. If you feel we missed something, please reach out to me and I will be happy to talk about it. In processing how that anger has changed over time, Amy talks about our inclination to diminish or dismiss harm done by people we like.Warning: The cursing was not edited out for this episode, and (spoiler) they don't really talk about the Farmer's Market.Additional resources:"The 'Arab Spring': Five Years On" (Amnesty International)https://www.amnesty.org/en/latest/campaigns/2016/01/arab-spring-five-years-on/"Philando Castile's Daughter Said To Girlfriend After He Died: I Don't Want You To Get Shooted | TIME" (YouTube, by TIME, June 22, 2017)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hlTv3jEhpXM"While celebrities partner with NAACP to 'take responsibility' for racism" (The Detroit News, by Christi Carras, June 12, 2020)https://www.detroitnews.com/story/life/2020/06/12/white-celebrities-partner-naacp-take-responsibility-racism/3174582001/"How accurate is 'Mrs. America's' portrayal of Shirley Chisholm? With a career in fashion spanning 5 decades, Florence Deschamps has worked with some of the biggest names in the industry, including Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garçons, and Kenzo Takada. Florence is passionate about finding and mentoring creative talent. In her Paris showroom, she introduces emerging designers and their collections to the world’s top buyers. Florence works closely with her young and hip showroom director, Marina Lyritzi. Marina is a talented content creator and branding specialist. Through her work as a stylist and online influencer, Marina tells the story of designers and their products, with a youthful and joyful voice. In this episode: Part 1 - Florence Dressing up in her grandmother’s designer wardrobe in Connecticut. Florence studied at Sarah Lawrence College and La Sorbonne. She also studied dance with George Balanchine. Florence began her fashion career working as a model in the late 1960s. With photographer Sarah Moon she learnt the art of photography. Working in public relations at French fashion house, Dorothée Bis, was very formative. In the early 1980s Florence discovered Comme des Garçons and met Rei Kawakubo. She became the president of Comme des Garçons, and launched the brand internationally. Today Florence presents and sells her young designers’ collections to the great fashion stores around the world, including Rei Kawakubo’s Dover Street Market, and Blake in Chicago. Good proportion, a sense of harmony, and a sense of humour and playfulness are important in a designer’s work. Part 2 - Marina (27m40s) Marina met Florence at Paris Fashion Week when she was interning with an Italian bag designer. Marina had a fashion blog for several years, before shifting to Instagram. She collaborates with fashion brands and recently won first prize in Marie Claire Greece blogger awards, and has worked with H&M. It’s more effective for consumers to see fashion products on real people, rather than very tall and thin models. It’s important for designers to have a good connection with their showroom. Strong brand DNA and a clear target market are very important for commercial success. Bonus audio – What the dog thinks (36m10s)

This week on LADY’s After Hours, fashion and cultural historian Laura McLaws Helms meets with model, actress and yogi Ingrid Boulting. One of the most memorable models of the late 1960s and 1970s, Ingrid Boulting was raised in South Africa and England. Starting as a ballerina she fell into fashion, where she became a favorite of Richard Avedon, David Bailey and Sarah Moon, and appeared in Vogue (all international editions), Harper’s Bazaar, Seventeen and many other magazines and ad campaigns. In 1976 she starred alongside Robert DeNiro in the movie adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s unfinished novel, 'The Last Tycoon' in 1976. Throughout this period she studied meditation and yoga as a method of grounding herself, and later moved to Ojai, California, where she became a yoga teacher and opened her own studio. In this deep, intimate discussion, we discuss the projections placed on her due to her beauty, healing through yoga and shadow work, and, of course, her experiences in fashion and films. Behind the striking girl in the fashion photographs lies a far more interesting and complex woman. But we also know that many of our authors have felt the same way Sarah did as a child. Like her, many felt that they didn't exist in children's books when they were growing up.
