Be Bold & Turn To God (Be Bold Series)Psalm 138:7-8 “Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life. You stretch out your hand against the anger of my foes; with your right hand, you save me. The Lord will vindicate me; your love, Lord, endures forever—do not abandon the works of your hands. When I read this passage, I got the picture of a football player holding the ball in his right hand, with his body turned away from the opposing player and his other hand out to block. However, instead of being a football player, it is God. He has His right arm around me, shielding me from danger, and His left hand out to shield me from the anger of my enemies. To me, this is a beautiful image. I am so thankful that I know that God is out there protecting me. I have heard some incredible stories of this protection. I think that sometimes we can think that God can protect us from things by helping us avoid them or making sure we are in the right place at the right time. And He does do this. However, He can also protect you from danger at the moment as well. The verse above starts with the statement, “You preserve my life.” I would like to tell you a story that is an excellent example of this. The story is from the book “How To Live Like A King's Kid." by Harold Hill. If you have not read this book, I can't recommend it enough. It is so good and will definitely boost your faith. Here is a short excerpt of how God can save you from real physical danger at the moment. “Recently, I was driving down a divided highway to a meeting. The dividing strip was maybe 20 feet wide. Suddenly, a car coming from the other direction, going about 70, the same speed I was traveling, started to cross the strip. It was headed straight for me. A 140 mph impact was in the making, with me in the middle. Mincemeat.I was glad I didn't have to wait to get into the high gear of praise and Thanksgiving because I wouldn't have had time. It all happened so fast. Walking in the light has to do with all circuits being tuned up by praise and Thanksgiving all the time – in everything, giving thanks for everything. I have been walking in the light all day. So I thanked God and prayed in the spirit for the people in the other car all in the same breath, realizing it could be my last one. But I was singing the songs of Zion, knowing that King's kids don't have to graduate on Satan's terms. The car hurtling at me was less than 20 yards away when suddenly it shot straight up in the air and turned upside down. It was a convertible, the top was down, and people flew in all directions. Then, the car crashed flat right alongside me."Lord, do you want me to stop?" I asked him then. “No. Don't stop. You intercede,” was is the message I got. In my rearview mirror, I could see other cars and trucks stopping. They wouldn't need my physical presence there, but God needed me to be an intercessor. And so I kept on praying, praising God, praying in tongues. I was aware of raw power, rivers of living water, flowing from my innermost being directly to the throne of grace as I interceded in the spirit. Before I was half a mile down the road, I had God's assurance that he had taken care of everything, and I went to my meeting satisfied. That was Friday. On Sunday morning, I was invited to speak at the Kent Island Methodist church near where the accident occurred. I shared my experience from the pulpit and said that if anyone present knew the outcome of the accident, I'd like to hear about it. I knew something good had taken place. Sure enough, three people came to me at the church door after the service and said they were at the scene just a few minutes after the accident happened because they lived close by. The car had blown a tire, going at high speed, and had gotten completely out of control. The people in the convertible had fallen clear of the car, and everyone had walked away from the accident! The car was demolished, but no person was injured. It was a miracle.A car coming straight at you on a level Road does not suddenly jump straight up in the air. From straight forward motion to vertical motion is impossible unless you hit something curved to change the course. And that's what happened in that accident. The car's course was changed when it hit a curved surface – the curved circle of light that prevented darkness from entering to annihilate a king's kid. There were millions of foot-pounds of energy involved, but that's nothing for an angel of the Lord. Hallelujah! When we call upon the king, he works supernaturally to deliver us from trouble.”I always get emotional when I hear stories like this because I am reminded of how much God loves us and that He will go to any lengths to save us. I also get emotional because of how touching it is. These people all seemed to be headed for death. Their lives could have been over in an instant. And they weren't. Satan meant for that tire to go out and for the situation to end badly. If Satan had gotten his way, those people would have died. You and I don't know the state of their souls, but even if they went to heaven, what about the effects of their deaths on those still living? Unexpected death of a loved one often brings with it anger. It can cause some to question God and why He would let such an awful thing happen. Some people get angry with God and they don't let it go. However, it says in Genesis 50:20, “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.” God takes Satan's plan for evil and uses it for good. Harold Hill has sold over 1,000,000 copies of his book. He has also probably told that story to thousands of people or more. Instead of this story ending in tragedy, it is a story that has probably given people faith that they did not have before and definitely strengthened the faith of those who were already believers. How incredible is that? Dear Heavenly Father, I pray that you bless all those listening to this episode today. Lord, we thank you for your protection. We thank you for all the miracles you make happen every single day, the big and the small ones. Lord, we thank you for all the times you protected us from something that we didn't even know about. Lord, we ask that you help us learn to make a habit of praising you so that if we are in a situation like Harold was, we will be prepared. We love you, Lord, and we ask all of this in accordance with your will and in Jesus' holy name, Amen.Thank you so much for joining me on this journey to walk boldly with Jesus! I look forward to meeting you here again tomorrow. Remember, Jesus loves you just as you are, and so do I! Welcome Diana! This one is a little outside the mold for the Christmas Around the World series. You see, Diana's childhood, the culture she was raised in, and the Christmases she enjoyed weren't really defined by the places she lived, geographically. In fact, her family moved 22 times in 17 years. Rather, her experiences were mainly defined by the agricultural communities she and her family traveled between. Diana was raised in the Bruderhof, a global collection of self-sustaining farms where all members surrender their personal goods (yep, including Christmas presents) and accept roles for the greater good of the community. Although Diana ultimately chose to leave the Bruderhof community when she was 19, moving to NYC to work as a chef, she retains warm memories of some aspects of her rather unique childhood. Some of the best of these memories include Christmastime, which were full of German Christmas traditions like decorating simply with apples and candles, singing spiritual songs, and making classic bakes like these traditional British Mincemeat Pies she's shared with us. From the time Diana was in high school she spent increasingly more hours in the kitchen (which she truly loved, although it was very heard labor) preparing daily suppers for her communities of 400 people. Thrilled to welcome Diana to the Christmas Around the World series today - and thank YOU so much for being here. Highlights Vision of the Bruderhof: People who wanted to live together, share everything, wear flowers, and run through the fields. Frank Murphy is joined by his friend Elyse Bruce, Creative Dynamo. Elyse's newest Missy Barrett mystery, The Case of the Missing Muskets, includes a chapter in which Missy and her mother visit the Frank & Friends Show. Frank and his wife Jere had leg-of-lamb for Easter. They tried to find a jar of mint jelly at a supermarket, which did not have any. The store's app lets you order mint jelly for $47. Jere finally found mint jelly at a competing supermarket for $3. Last Christmas, Elyse had difficulty finding mincemeat in local stores. Mincemeat is actually chopped fruit and nuts soaked in rum or other spirits. The supermarket staff sent her to the meat counter instead. Frank thinks that Easter candy is better than Halloween candy because he believes that Spring is better than Fall. Elyse is an October baby and prefers Fall. This episode is sponsored by BoneZones.com (don't forget the S). Buy books and other merchandise autographed by Body Farm founder Dr. Bill Bass at https://bonezones.com/ including Body Farm t-shirts. Contact BoneZones to hire Frank to give a presentation about Dr. Bass and the Body Farm. Elyse writes books about a fictional nine-year-old detective named Missy Barrett, who lives in Sevier County. Elyse created International Missy Barrett Day: A Day To Do Good Deeds and the Missy Barrett Stamp and Sticker Search in Sevier County. In The Case of the Missing Muskets, Missy visits her Grandpa's farm and falls into a hole that turns out to be a Civil War hiding place. She discovers blankets, coins and ammunition but no muskets. Elyse writes each weekday for four hours or 1500 words, whichever comes first. Her progress can get slowed by the research she needs to do to find the necessary details for the story. Elyse has a blog called Idiomation which can be found at https://idiomation.wordpress.com/ It was cited in Uncle John's Bathroom Reader and several other books. She started the blog to help her son, who is autistic, to understand figures of speech more easily. The idiom “water off a duck's back” makes Frank think of the ducklings his parents gave to him and his sisters for Easter one year. Frank wants to see the total solar eclipse on Monday. He thinks a partial eclipse is not as good as 100%. Knoxville will see only 88% totality. Elyse invited Frank to read his chapter during the book launch for The Case of the Missing Muskets on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at 3:30 p.m. at the King Family Public Library, 408 High Street, Sevierville, TN.

In this week's episode, the team are back in Hannah's flat to guzzle some vino and solve some crimes!Joining them in these pursuits is the hilarious comedian and reluctant cat whisperer, Kate Barron, who kicks it all off with a crime featuring a cracking set of characters - not all of them human. The team then makes mincemeat of a story crazy enough to really make a song and dance about. And finally, we hear from a listener who might have had one or two Scooby snacks before writing in... they would have managed it too, if it weren't for those pesky Drunk Women! EPSIODE 95 | Bodyguard of Lies: The Ghost Army & Wartime Deception More than 100 million soldiers took part in WWII, but not all of them were fighting with guns. There was obviously a lot of administration and infrastructure to deal with, there were codebreakers and spies, and there were even some who engaged in secret deception to trick the enemy. This episode is not abouts ghosts, but rather the Ghost Army. No, not a battalion of unstoppable undead like Aragorn brings with him against the forces of Mordor, but a dirty tricks tactical deception unit the Allies deployed in Europe near the end of the war to fool Axis commanders. Because, as the saying goes, all's fair in love and war. This episode is partly a cynical attempt to lure in military history fans, but these are also really interesting stories. And you might consider them to have been, in fact, conspiracies, ones that were successful, by and large. Like what we do? Donald Trump proves too much for the libs at CNN.

Kicking things off with our baking plans! Mincemeat tartlets, pop tarts, Christmas cookies, fudge, and blueberry muffins... need we say more? Well, we will. Little article on Matt leaving... some are happy, we are not. Then we get into a brand new era of Bake Off - the AMERICAN Bake Off! Paul and Prue are the constants here, two NEW American hosts. Actress Ellie Kemper (The Office, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt) and Zach Cherry (of Apple TV's Severance) are your new hosts for this show that will be launching its first full season next year on the ROKU channel (which is free by the way!). We give our thoughts on the show overall. Does it hold up to traditional Bake Off? We also give our assessment of the hosts in general - we've seen a lot of hosts in our time so we have thoughts! Then we look at our slate of American celebrity guests: Chloe Fineman (SNL), D'Arcy Carden (The Good Place), Liza Koshy (YouTube), Joel Kim Booster (Fire Island), Nat Faxon (writer / comedy actor), and the one that was a surprise favorite of us all... NFL Star (and Actor) Marshawn Lynch. We just have to say upfront - Marshawn Lynch stole the show. Charming, funny, and not a terrible baker. Every one of us found ourselves pulling for him and loving the interactions he was having with the others guests, hosts, and judges. He was a delight. Having 6 bakers was unusual for a holiday episode... we could not determine why they went with the number they did. Spoliers below so stop now if you haven't see the episode! For a Signature, the guests were asked to make cream puffs. This was a bit surprising that celebrity (non-baker) judges were asked to make a choux pastry as it's not a baking standard for most, but they all kinda did alright. Each had a theme and the judges were impressed... Paul handed out THREE handshakes... but we are saying one of them was almost coerced from him... so more like two and a half. In the Technical, another not so easy feat. Meringue baskets formed into a wreath with sugared berries, mascarpone cream, and blueberry coolie.... needless to say, many had never heard of these things yet alone made them before. Highlight of the segment - Marshawn asking "is this 'whisking'?" Most of the bakers did a decent job though. Meringues looked decent, though many underbaked not knowing how long it actually takes to make right, and there was a good job done using the fruits. People who performed well in the first round also did well here. One baker split their pants ... sos there's that. In the Showstopper, the bakers were asked to make a cake that had a 3D element and told their favorite Holiday story. The stories were heartwarming and the cakes that they made were also incredibly well done. Paul had D'arcy's and said "the is the best cake I've had in a long time". Lots of great flavors and for the most part, solid work. A couple underbaked, but the decorations were good. again, surprising the group was Marshawn and his PawPaw (his grandfather) cake. Fantastic story and while it wasn't the prettiest ... a delicious cake!! Marshawn rattling off a dozen ways to say "money" to Prue was what this was all about. Paul even says at the end as far as celebrity bakers go, the American's may be better. All three of us agreed that this was one of the best (if not THE best) episode of Bake Off we have seen (UK or US).

James reports live from New York (well sort of - he definitely is there but since this is a podcast, it can't really be called live), talking all things US Open from the last 24 hours. This is a podlet, so sometimes he'll be alone, sometimes he'll be with a guest or two, and it will almost always be quite raw. No music, no editing, just pure, unadulterated mind dump. Enjoy! Deception: As spy movie fans, we know that deception is a key ingredient in espionage. In World War II, the British tried many different forms of deception. One of the most impactful deceptions from that war has inspired plot points in James Bond movies and was a key driver to the creation of the Hitchcock classic North by Northwest. Deception also is the basis of the just-released movie OPERATION MINCEMEAT. Join Tom Pizzato as he gives you his no-spoiler review!
