According to The New York Times, a federal judge held former New York City Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani in contempt of court on Monday for failing to cooperate in handing over $11 million of his personal assets to Georgia poll workers Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss. The pair successfully sued Giuliani for defamation after he falsely accused them of helping to steal the 2020 presidential election, winning a $148 million judgment. The Manhattan judge criticized Giuliani for obstructing efforts to verify his residency, which he claims is his Palm Beach, Fla., condo. Giuliani's assets include a Manhattan apartment, a Mercedes-Benz convertible, designer watches, and Yankees memorabilia. The judge expressed frustration at his busy legal schedule, noting, “Being a busy person is not an excuse.” Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

This Day in Legal History: Beer Hall PutschOn November 8, 1923, Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party launched a failed coup known as the Beer Hall Putsch in Munich, Germany. Hitler, alongside other far-right leaders, sought to overthrow the Weimar Republic by forcibly taking control of the Bavarian government and inspiring a national revolution. The plan was set into motion when Hitler and his supporters stormed a Munich beer hall where Bavarian officials were gathered, intending to coerce them into backing the coup. However, the attempt quickly unraveled. As the Nazis marched through Munich, they were met with resistance from police forces, resulting in a violent confrontation that left 15 Nazi supporters and four police officers dead. The coup collapsed within hours, and Hitler was subsequently arrested and tried for treason. Sentenced to five years in prison, he served only one but used this time to dictate Mein Kampf, a manifesto outlining his extremist ideology and future plans for Germany. Though the Beer Hall Putsch was a tactical failure, it marked a significant turning point for Hitler and the Nazi Party. The publicity surrounding Hitler's trial and imprisonment gave him a national platform, which he used to spread his message and gain a wider following. The failed coup illustrated both the fragility of the Weimar Republic and the determination of extremist groups to challenge democratic governance in Germany, foreshadowing the political upheaval that would follow in the coming years.A federal judge has once again dismissed claims seeking to hold Mark Zuckerberg personally responsible in multiple lawsuits accusing Meta and other social media companies of causing addictive behavior in children. US District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers found that the updated complaints failed to meet the legal standards required to establish Zuckerberg's individual liability. While this ruling removes Zuckerberg as an individual defendant, it does not affect the ongoing claims against Meta as a company. Plaintiffs argue that Zuckerberg ignored internal warnings from Meta employees regarding the potential dangers of Instagram and Facebook for younger users, allegedly concealing this information from the public.Corporate law traditionally shields CEOs from personal liability, making it challenging to hold Zuckerberg accountable without clear evidence of direct involvement. Judge Rogers noted that, although future evidence might reveal more direct actions by Zuckerberg, the present allegations do not meet the threshold for corporate officer liability. This legal action is part of a broader litigation effort, involving over 1,000 lawsuits by families and school districts in California against Meta, Google, ByteDance, and Snap, alleging similar harms related to social media addiction among adolescents.Zuckerberg Avoids Personal Liability in Meta Addiction SuitsA federal judge in New York dismissed a copyright lawsuit brought by news outlets Raw Story and AlterNet against OpenAI, ruling that the plaintiffs had not shown a concrete injury. The outlets argued that OpenAI unlawfully used their articles to train its AI models, including ChatGPT, and violated the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) by removing copyright management information (CMI) from the articles, such as author names and copyright notices. However, U.S. District Judge Colleen McMahon determined that removing CMI alone, without further dissemination or significant harm, did not meet the required threshold for legal standing under the DMCA.Judge McMahon permitted the plaintiffs to submit an amended complaint but expressed skepticism about their ability to present a valid claim. According to McMahon, the real issue seemed to be the uncompensated use of the articles for training purposes rather than the removal of CMI. Although Raw Story and AlterNet attorney Matt Topic stated confidence in addressing the court's concerns through amendments, McMahon warned that the case might lack a viable legal theory under current copyright laws. This lawsuit aligns with a broader wave of legal actions from media, authors, and artists who are challenging AI companies over the use of copyrighted material in model training. In a related development, The New York Times filed a similar lawsuit against OpenAI in December, marking the first major challenge from a media outlet over AI training practices.OpenAI Defeats Raw Story Copyright, Training Lawsuit, for NowOpenAI defeats news outlets' copyright lawsuit over AI training, for now | ReutersA federal judge in Texas has struck down President Biden's immigration program aimed at providing a citizenship path for certain undocumented immigrants married to U.S. citizens. The "Keeping Families Together" initiative, announced in June, targeted approximately 500,000 individuals but faced immediate legal challenges from Texas and several Republican-led states. U.S. District Judge J. Campbell Barker ruled that the program overstepped Biden's executive authority, leaving it blocked as Biden's term nears its end.The initiative has been a focal point in the political landscape, with immigration considered a top priority issue. Former President Donald Trump, who defeated Vice President Kamala Harris in the recent election, is expected to implement strict immigration policies, including potential rollbacks of Biden's program. A recent Reuters/Ipsos poll indicates that Americans expect Trump to prioritize immigration enforcement, with many anticipating large-scale deportations. While the Biden administration could appeal the ruling, the White House has not yet commented on potential next steps.US judge rules against Biden legalization program for immigrant spouses | ReutersA federal judge has warned Rudy Giuliani, former New York City mayor and attorney for Donald Trump, that he could be held in civil contempt if he doesn't comply with a court order to surrender certain assets. Giuliani was ordered in October to turn over property, including his Manhattan apartment and other valuables, to Ruby Freeman and her daughter Shaye Moss, two Georgia election workers whom he defamed. Freeman and Moss won a $148 million judgment against Giuliani after a jury found he had spread false accusations that they helped rig the 2020 election.Judge Lewis Liman expressed frustration with Giuliani's delays, giving him until next week to meet the court's demands. The plaintiffs' attorney, Aaron Nathan, suggested Giuliani may be shifting assets to avoid collection, including opening new bank accounts and forming a new LLC. Giuliani, meanwhile, claims he is cooperating and accused the plaintiffs of being vindictive, citing their attempt to seize a family heirloom watch. Judge Liman dismissed that argument, affirming that the heirloom was still subject to seizure under the law.Giuliani recently filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, but his case was dismissed after he failed to disclose his full financial situation, removing his legal protections from creditors. This comes as Giuliani faces broader legal challenges, including disbarment and criminal charges related to efforts to overturn the 2020 election results in Georgia and Arizona.US judge threatens Rudy Giuliani with contempt in election workers' case | ReutersThis week's closing theme is by Antonín Dvořák.This week's closing theme is Antonín Dvořák's Piano Quintet No. 2 in A Major, Op. 81, one of the most beloved chamber works in the Romantic repertoire. Composed in 1887, this quintet exemplifies Dvořák's talent for weaving Czech folk music elements into classical forms, creating a vibrant work filled with expressive melodies and rhythmic vitality. Dvořák had already achieved international acclaim by this time, and his music was celebrated for its distinctive blend of Slavic folk traditions and classical elegance. In this quintet, he masterfully combines lyrical beauty with an earthy, folk-inspired character, making it both accessible and profoundly moving. The piece opens with an Allegro ma non tanto, which means “fast, but not too much,” where a lush cello theme sets a warm and expansive mood that's developed between the strings and piano. The second movement, a Dumka, draws on a traditional Slavic musical form that alternates between melancholic and lively sections, allowing for both introspection and joy. Dvořák contrasts this with a lively Furiant for the third movement, featuring energetic cross-rhythms that mimic Czech dance patterns, adding excitement and rhythmic playfulness. The quintet closes with a spirited Finale, where Dvořák's signature energy and folk influences shine through in a triumphant, sweeping conclusion. Throughout, the dialogue between piano and strings feels rich and conversational, each instrument playing a unique role in the music's storytelling. The Piano Quintet No. 2 captures Dvořák at the height of his compositional powers, blending technical mastery with deep national pride and an unmistakable Romantic warmth. It's an ideal selection to end the week on a vibrant and emotionally rich note, as Dvořák's music reminds us of the beauty in blending tradition with innovation.Without further ado, Antonín Dvořák's Piano Quintet No. 2 in A Major, Op. 81, enjoy.  This is a public episode. Giuliani Loses EVERYTHING To Election Workers He Defamed

Rudy Giuliani has now lost everything after a judge this week ruled that his luxury apartment in Manhattan, all of his cash accounts, and many other personal items are now the property of the two Georgia election workers that he defamed. Even the $2 million debt that he is owed from the Trump campaign now belongs to Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss. This is all because Giuliani wanted to get a job in Trump's White House, which he never even got. Also, Donald Trump held an event in South Florida this week that could only be described as incoherent. The convicted felon repeatedly rambled his way through all sorts of weird stories, and at one point he couldn't even locate a woman that was sitting right next to him - Christi Farga, the mayor of Doral, Florida. If Biden had ever done even half the things that happened on stage the media would have lit up with endless stories about his mental decline, but for Trump, this was just another day of wackiness. And polls may show that Americans are split on who to vote for, but outside of this country, the answer is very clear: Non-Americans don't want to see Donald Trump get back into office. From London to Palestine, citizens are saying that Trump would be a disaster for the rest of the world, especially in areas that are already being torn apart by war. These allies need our help, and we need theirs, so electing a leader that they despise is probably not the best idea. Finally, Donald Trump abruptly cancelled a virtual roundtable event that was supposed to feature RFK, Jr. and Tulsi Gabbard this week, not long after he had called Vice President Kamala Harris "lazy." The man has absolutely no stamina to speak of, but once again the media is missing the story. His inability to close out the presidential race is a major red flag, but voters aren't going to know about these things if the national media isn't covering them.Subscribe to our YouTube channel to stay up to date on all of Farron's content: https://www.youtube.com/FarronBalancedFollow Farron on social media!Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FarronBalancedTwitter: https://twitter.com/farronbalancedInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/farronbalancedTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@farronbalanced?lang=enText and and let us know your thoughts on today's stories!

"For now, I want people to understand this. Money will never solve all of my problems," said Ruby Freeman. She is one of two Georgia election workers defamed by Rudy Giuliani after the 2020 election. During a news conference, she said, "I will always have to be careful about where I go and who I choose to share my name with." A federal judge has ruled that Giuliani must hand over his New York City apartment, sports memorabilia, and 26 luxury watches to Freeman and her daughter, Shaye Moss, as part of the $148 million defamation judgment against him. He falsely accused them of ballot fraud, fueling Donald Trump's claim of a stolen election. The lies spread by Giuliani led to violent threats that made the women fear for their lives. Giuliani's team is appealing the judgment, but Freeman and Moss are already one step closer to receiving compensation for the harm caused by his false claims. Learn more about your ad choices. Political violence is never the answer to our nation's problems, disagreements, and divisions. Political violence was wrong when Donald Trump perpetrated it on January 6th, and it was wrong when it was perpetrated against him at his rally in Pennsylvania. There is no answer yet as to why a registered Republican decided to arm himself with an assault rifle and do what he did. But one thing is clear - if we don't do better, then things will only get worse. Then, Glenn talks about Rudy Giuliani. Within days of losing a massive money judgment for lying about and defaming Georgia state election workers Shaye Moss and Ruby Freeman, Rudy Giuliani tried to hold off having his assets seized by filing for bankruptcy. However, he couldn't even do bankruptcy right. The presiding judge has dismissed his bankruptcy case, stating, "the lack of financial transparency (by Giuliani) is particularly troubling given concerns that Mr. Giuliani has engaged in self-dealing and that he has potential conflicts of interest that would hamper the administration of his bankruptcy case". With the dismissal of Rudy's bankruptcy case, Shaye Moss and Ruby Freeman can now use all legal mechanisms to collect the $148 million he owes them, including seizing his assets. If you're interested in supporting our all-volunteer efforts, you can become a Team Justice patron at: / glennkirschner If you'd like to support us and buy Team Justice and Justice Matters merchandise visit:https://shop.spreadshirt.com/glennkir...Check out Glenn's website at https://glennkirschner.com/Follow Glenn on:Threads: https://www.threads.net/glennkirschner2Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/glennkirschner2Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/glennkirschner2Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/glennkirsch...See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

SERIES 2 EPISODE 97: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:44) SPECIAL COMMENT: For all those wringing their hands about disqualifying Trump from the ballot via the 14th Amendment without a conviction: What would Donald Trump have done with Joe Biden if January 6th had somehow worked? Or TO him? It's January 20, 2021 and the 46th President-Elect of the United States is prevented by whatever means from assuming office as demanded by the Constitution and Trump remains in power extra-legally, extra-judicially, extra-constitutionally. And we are supposed to believe that Biden would have been left free to speak in public, on television, on social media, to the press, in the courts, to the Speaker Pelosi or Majority Leader Schumer, to the Democratic governors with their authority over the National Guard? Trump would have found a pretext to detain him. Or he HAD a pretext to detain him; a plan we just haven't found out about. Having once crossed the ultimate threshold – ENDING 237 years of American democracy – having retained power as a dictator by some other name, what would Trump have then NOT been willing to do? And most importantly, what Trump would have done with a man he would've wanted the world to believe was an extra, illegitimate American president who had somehow plotted against Trump? He would have had Joe Biden killed. Or if somebody had stopped him from that, he would have had him seized somehow, by someone, by some official sounding but ultimately fabricated and illegal and anti-American quote “authority” unquote, and held. Incommunicado. With Kamala Harris and Pelosi and Schumer and uncooperative Senators and Congressmen of both parties and hundreds of reporters and editors and you and me and god knows how many others, on the pretext of god knows WHAT kind of imaginary plot to… enforce the Constitution? THAT is why the Colorado Supreme Court was right. Because THAT second plan is the TRUE comparison to the Civil War traitors on whom the 14th Amendment was first applied. Because the Confederacy's plans involved killing the President and the Vice President and half the cabinet and burning down New York City and seizing Northern ports. And just because the Confederacy did not win the Civil War those plans did not miraculously disappear from the minds of the traitors. Just as Trump's plans for what to do with one president too many did not miraculously disappear from HIS diseased and monomaniacal and traitorous mind. The 14th Amendment is Iabout what ELSE he was willing to do, and what horrors he is willing to precipitate today, and in 2024, and, god forbid, in January of 2029. ALSO: Trump's not an insurrectionist! He was so concerned about it he posted 11 whole words denying it. And as his lapdogs race to defend his paraphrases of Hitler, Trump undercut them again last night by repeating the "blood poisoning" line. He's also in even more insurrection trouble: turns out there's a RECORDING of his phone conversation pressuring Michigan Republicans to not certify Biden's win there in November, 2020. And Ronna McDaniel could go to jail - she's on the tape too, offering to pay for their lawyers. That is a bribe. And for comic relief, Rudy Giuliani has gone from Moral Bankruptcy to Actual Bankruptcy. He's filed for Chapter 11. And while he's unlikely to get it granted, he has revealed who he owes money to it and the list somehow includes Hunter Biden! It's so bad it has inspired yet more "singing" on the part of your deluded tone deaf host. B-Block (28:15) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Rep. Tim Burchett thinks there are Republicans in the House being blackmailed with honey pots. He describes in stark detail (as if he were in the room when it happened!) what that would've been like. Kiss The Washington Post goodbye; its new publisher was a Murdoch editor. And John Schneider threatens Biden again. John Schneider. The actor. The guy from 'Dukes Of Hazzard.' The actor you thought was DEAD. C-Block (34:40) FRIDAYS WITH THURBER: Only one way to close out 2023: with James Thurber's amazingly prescient saga of a man everyone thinks is a hero but is in fact a nightmare who must be stopped: "The Greatest Man In The World." And no, he wrote this 15 years before Trump was born.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

SERIES 2 EPISODE 94: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:44) BULLETIN: In a historic decision validating the obvious intent of the Disqualification Clause of the 14th Amendment, Colorado's State Supreme Court has ruled Trump is NOT eligible to appear on the state's ballot as a candidate for president next year because he participated in an insurrection against the United States of America. The decision is likely to spawn a wave of copycat cases (and remember previous rulings in Arizona, Michigan and Minnesota did NOT rule the other way; they pertained only to knocking Trump off the Republican PRIMARY ballot) and will of course go to the federal Supreme Court. Where the justices won't have much to decide. Only the future of the nation and the prospect of civil unrest. The rest of this bulletin is a repeat of Tuesday's full 93rd episode of Countdown. (11:51) SPECIAL COMMENT: In his three-day orgy of insults, expanding his list of those who are "poisoning our nation's blood" from Hispanics to Africans and Asians, praising dictators and echoing Hitler, it's understandable that most of us missed it. But Trump also explained the one rug that will really tie his totalitarian room together: he's going to indemnify the police. Translation: under Trump, the cops can kill George Floyd and be certain they will face no legal liability. They can kill YOU and be certain they will face no legal liability. It is literally a license to kill, a license granted to the 700,000 police officers at all state and city levels in this nation. Who already have weapons. Who already have tanks. Who already have affinity to Trump and the fascism and white supremacism he's selling.  And now they will be freed of all restraint. And they'll owe that freedom to Trump. They will become Trump's stormtroopers and his little SS. And if invoking the Insurrection Act to use the National Guard against unarmed civilians is too sharp-edged for some of his under-Fuhrers, Trump can simply dispatch local cops to shoot up a Black Lives Matter protest. Or an anti-Cop City protest. Or just an anti-Trump protest. It may be his most totalitarian revelation since. And naturally, the New York Times follows it with an op-ed titled "The Secret of Trump's Appeal Isn't Authoritarianism” and Axios begins the last full business week of the year with 1,000 words on Trump and not one of them mentions his plan to take over the cops or his quoting Hitler or his praising Xi and Kim. Jim Vandehei and Mike Allen have shown that they - and so many other institutions we think would recoil from authoritarianism - are in fact ready to serve them, just as long as they can continue to make profits. Axios has 1,000 words on Trump and they are all positive and normalizing and praising him fo having "much greater power than in his first term and fewer restraints on carrying out his political agenda.” His political agenda is Totalitarianism, you useless slobs. B-Block (32:29) POSTSCRIPTS TO THE NEWS: Ruby Goodman and Shaye Moss are awarded $148 million from Giuliani. Giuliani re-slanders them. They sue again. He re-re-slanders them against last night. Clarence Thomas wasn't being bought; he was prostituting himself. Congressmen ask him to recuse. Mayor Eric Adams says NYC is the greatest because any day could be 9/11. (38:17 THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Wreaths Across America, Laura Loomer and the Senate staffer who was just, uh, receiving testimony. And the new allegation: that wasn't the first staffer CPAC's Matt Schlapp allegedly groped. C-Block (45:17 THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: Tells you something that a week ago somebody who didn't know asked me about the legendary sportscaster for whom I interned in 1978. That means he's been famous for 80 years, the last 10 of them after he passed away. The story of The Amazin' Bill Mazer.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

B-Block (22:22) POSTSCRIPTS TO THE NEWS: Ruby Goodman and Shaye Moss are awarded $148 million from Giuliani. Giuliani re-slanders them. They sue again. He re-re-slanders them against last night. Clarence Thomas wasn't being bought; he was prostituting himself. Congressmen ask him to recuse. Mayor Eric Adams says NYC is the greatest because any day could be 9/11. (28:10) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Wreaths Across America, Laura Loomer and the Senate staffer who was just, uh, receiving testimony. And the new allegation: that wasn't the first staffer CPAC's Matt Schlapp allegedly groped. C-Block (35:10) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: Tells you something that a week ago somebody who didn't know asked me about the legendary sportscaster for whom I interned in 1978. That means he's been famous for 80 years, the last 10 of them after he passed away. The story of The Amazin' Bill Mazer.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
