I had this dream about the Ghost of Tom Joad. It was Life During Wartime, and I was about to Cry Me a River. But With a Little Help From My Friends, the Space Captain wakes me and says, hey, Have You Seen the Stars Tonight? And then he says, I Wish You Would Save the Country. Then, we'd be Feelin' All Right.

Our daughter Lily sits in for Dani, who is out sick, to talk about Space Captain: Captain of Space. This sci-fi comedy is a wonderful salute to the throwback serials of the 1930’s, like Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers. It doesn’t stop there, the connections and spoofs span decades of sci-fi schlock movies as well. Starting out as a multi-media play, and later turned into a feature, this movie is fun for everyone. Solid performances, loads of puns and one-liners, it excels in lessons of making the most of a micro-budget. Scenery, costumes, effects, they are all wonderful. This was a delightful watch with fun lessons. Space Captain: Captain of Space can be found on Amazon Video.
From Mad Dogs and Englishmen Honky Tonk Women, She Came In Through The Bathroom Window, Space Captain, Sticks and Stones, The Letter, Cry Me A River, Feelin’ Alright, Delta Lady, plus Unchain My Heart (live), studio cuts Woman To Woman & High Time We Went, and Ballad Of Mad Dogs & Englishmen (Leon Russell)

We found a little known gem that only made $5000 at the box office according to IMDB. We loved it, and we want to talk to you about it spoiler-free of course. Take a trip back in time to those Saturday morning serials from the '30's and '40's, a spoof of that genre that is truly funny. This film is proof you don't need a big budget or awesome special effects to tell an entertaining and hilarious story.
Lots of quality music this week including the new single from Space Captain on Tru Thoughts. Hip Hop from The Roots (Rest In Peace Malik B) and Westside Gunn. Jazz from Emma-Jean Thackray on the vinyl label Night Dreamer. Soul from Sound Of Superbad and Cleo Sol. Broken Beat from Laroye remixing Pegasvs, Son Of Scientist (aka IG Culture) and Domu making a welcome return remixing Nikitch & Kuna Maze. A classic from Abstract Truth. Drum & Bass from Jrumhand and older but newly re-issued Tom & Jerry (from the Reinforced crew). Plus plenty more musical treats.

The poo crew needs to find a way to get up to a space station to meet Ffrip, but Yvanna needs to look at one last thing before she leaves. Turns out that Mother Terra is still around, but not in the condition that she suspected. Plus, should they trust this Ysoki that seems to reflexively lie to them about silly things like how much money he has? And that Drow named Eph Yew? What can he do for them? Will Grundle get a new hat? Find out the answers to these questions and more, in this weeks episode! What Grant is drinking: Eagle Rare can be found here. For this episode of Cosmic America, we check out the touring outfit of Joe Cocker (and Leon Russell), which traveled across the United States in 1970 under the group name Mad Dogs and Englishmen. This live album stands as a document to that series of shows, and while it's certainly an interesting listen in a number of places, it falls short of the sort of all-time status that the aura of the band might seem to demand. Standout tracks include Space Captain, Delta Lady, and the cover of Leonard Cohen's Bird on a Wire.
