A doctor's warning can feel like a cliff edge. For Erica Muñoz, it was a turning point. As a California mom of three—including an older son with Down syndrome—she chose a different path: reverse diabetes, raise her energy, and build a life that matches her values. We unpack how she did it without cameras, crash diets, or perfect conditions—just clear goals, protein-forward meals, daily movement, and consistency that didn't blink when life got loud.We get real about the myths that stall progress. Ellipticals that flatter, not measure. Ab routines that won't outwork a kitchen. The lure of shortcuts like Ozempic for blood sugar and why stepping off them takes skills, not willpower alone. Erica shares the practical playbook that works in a busy home: Greek yogurt and whey for fast 60g protein, applesauce in baking to cut oil, protein muffins for sweet cravings, lettuce-wrapped burgers when eating out, and a mindset that treats red velvet cake as a planned celebration, not a failure. We also talk fear—fear of the first gym visit, fear of posting a workout—and how good form, small wins, and genuine community shrink those shadows. This story is bigger than weight loss. It's about picking a why that's strong enough to carry you—kids who need you, health you can feel, a standard you refuse to drop. We explore time honesty (yes, there's room if you stop binging shows), gratitude journaling, and controlling the controllables so bad days don't derail good weeks. Erica's growth from hesitant gym-goer to coach shows what's possible when you stack simple habits and surround yourself with positive people. If you've felt stuck, tired, or intimidated, consider this your nudge to start, to post the rep, and to choose fuel over feelings one meal at a time.If this conversation moved you, follow and subscribe, share it with a friend who needs a push, and leave a quick review to help others find us. Our guest this week is James Burch, of Georgetown, Grand Cayman, who is a corporate law partner at Walkers, amateur boxer and single father of three young boys, including one with global developmental delays.James was born and raised in Chelton, England. After obtaining his educaiton and becoming a lawyer he has worked overseas in Hong Kong and Grand Cayman. James and his x-wife, Gemma, were married for 9 years before divorcing seven years ago and are the proud parents of three boys: Charlie (10), Harry (12) and Archie (14), who suffered brain damage at the time of his birth and who has global developmental delays. There were complications with Archie's birth that required he be medievacked to Miami for emergency surgery, so on a moments notice, James joined Archie on the flight to Miami and didn't return to Grand Cayman for three years. James' is one of those stories, that "in the blink of an eye" life as you know is over. It was a surreal experience and fortunately Archie is a miracle child. We also learn about James' interest in boxing, which is leading to his first professional fight in Columbia, in May at age 48.It's an inspiring story about a father's commitment to his children and overcoming adversity all on this week's episode SFN Dad to Dad Podcast.Show Notes - Phone/WhatsApp – 1-345-926-9588Email – James.Burch@walkersglobal.comLinkedIn – https://www.linkedin.com/in/james-burch-42041510/Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children - https://www.gosh.nhs.uk/Register for the 6th Annual SFN Dads Virthual Conference on May 10, 2025: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/TLkN_ViJTTqnaK-M8pHPNA After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.Special Fathers Network -SFN is a dad to dad mentoring program for fathers raising children with special needs. Ever been asked a question in person, and you replay the conversation over and over, a dozen times, rephrasing your answer?I did that recently, not just rephrasing but adding and rethinking and adding some more. The question was, “How do you raise such nice boys??”I decided it would make a pretty decent podcast episode, exploring my meanderings through intentional parenting and how we've built a family culture.Does this advice (If you can call it that) apply to girls too? You betcha. In fact, it's pretty universal.I look forward to hearing what you think about:the way we chose to parent our newborns and toddlerswhat I think about my husbandwhether boys can be gentlethe impact of mirror neurons on our kids' brainsthe effect healthy food may or may not have on “nice boys”our “people over screens” rules and how we've pulled back and released technology over the yearschoice within boundaries, and agency while working as a team on high expectationsand maybe most importantly - is it ever too late? This episode is sponsored by Chef Junior, the cookbook for kids by kids - including my oldest son! In October 1957, three 15-year-old cadets experienced a possible "time slip" while on a map reading exercise near the village of Cursey in Suffolk, England. They entered the village to find it seemingly transported back in time, with no modern features and a butcher shop displaying green, moldy oxen carcasses. Was this time slip connected to the Black Death? Also this week, a listener shares their story about a white dogman traipsing around in a cemetery like it owns the place. Date: October 22, 2023 Scripture: Daniel 3 Teacher: Mike Mileski We'll all experience times when we're expected - by lawmakers, employers, neighbours, or by the culture - to say things we can't say, do things we can't do, and participate in things that seem wrong. What'll we do when the king expects us to ignore our conscience and bow down anyway? The famous story of Meshach, Shadrach, and Abednego is a great lesson in why, when, and how civil disobedience ought to take place. But before we do, we'll want to settle in our minds once and for all that "It's just a furnace." In this message, we share three questions to ask *before* we're expected to bow down, so we'll make an informed decision when the moment arrives. #nojusticenopeace, #civildisobedience, #theGospel, #pandemic, #Covid19

A Christchurch brewer wants prices removed from alcohol advertising to help curb binge drinking. Three Boys Brewery won Exhibitor of the Year at this year's New Zealand Brewers Guild Beer Awards. Owner Ralph Bungard believes most problems with alcohol over-consumption are linked to low prices. Bungard told Heather du Plessis-Allan retailers use it as leverage to get people in stores to buy other products. “If you advertise the price of alcohol, it certainly drives down the price and increases the volume that's sold.” LISTEN ABOVESee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
