If you would like to give us feedback on how were doing follow us at: https://discord.gg/cd6sNqvnav https://beacons.ai/senornerdpodcast Venom is a 2018 American superhero film featuring the Marvel Comics character Venom. The first film in Sony's Spider-Man Universe (SSU), it was directed by Ruben Fleischer from a screenplay by the writing team of Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg, along with Kelly Marcel. Tom Hardy stars as Eddie Brock and Venom alongside Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Scott Haze, and Reid Scott. In the film, struggling journalist Eddie gains superpowers after becoming the host of an alien symbiote, Venom, whose species plans to invade Earth. Following Venom's appearance in Spider-Man 3 (2007), Sony Pictures attempted to develop a spin-off film based on the Venom character, which was stalled due to issues with the company's ongoing Spider-Man franchise. In March 2016, work began on a new version that would start a new shared universe featuring the non-Spider-Man Marvel characters that the studio possessed film rights to. Sony also originally intended for the Venom film to share the world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), but ultimately distanced the film from Spider-Man. Sony's Columbia Pictures produced the film in association with Marvel Entertainment.[5] In March 2017, Rosenberg and Pinkner were set to write, with Fleischer and Hardy added in May; Marcel subsequently joined to rewrite the script. Filming took place from October 2017 to January 2018 in Atlanta, New York City, and San Francisco. The film was primarily inspired by the comic book miniseries Venom: Lethal Protector (1993) and the story arc "Planet of the Symbiotes" (1995). Ludwig Göransson was hired to compose the film's score, marking his second Marvel film after Black Panther (2018). Venom premiered at the Regency Village Theater on October 1, 2018, and was theatrically released in the United States on October 5. Despite receiving generally negative reviews from critics, Hardy's performance and the character's relationship with Venom were praised, and the film became the seventh-highest-grossing film of 2018, earning over $856 million worldwide and setting several box office records for an October release. It is followed by two sequels: Venom: Let There Be Carnage, which was released on October 1, 2021, and Venom: The Last Dance, which is scheduled for release on October 25, 2024. Venom: Let There Be Carnage is a 2021 American superhero film featuring the Marvel Comics character Venom. The sequel to Venom (2018) and the second film in Sony's Spider-Man Universe (SSU), it was directed by Andy Serkis from a screenplay by Kelly Marcel. Tom Hardy stars as Eddie Brock and Venom alongside Michelle Williams, Naomie Harris, Reid Scott, Stephen Graham, and Woody Harrelson. In the film, Eddie and the alien symbiote Venom must face serial killer Cletus Kasady (Harrelson) after he becomes the host of an offshoot of Venom named Carnage. Venom was intended by Sony Pictures to be the start of a new shared universe, and plans for a sequel began during production on the first film. Harrelson was cast to make a brief appearance as Cletus at the end of Venom, with the intention of him becoming the villain Carnage in the sequel. Official work on the sequel began in January 2019, with Hardy and Harrelson confirmed to return along with Marcel as writer. Serkis was hired as director that August, partly due to his experience working with computer-generated imagery (CGI) and motion capture technology, which was an important part of portraying Venom and Carnage in the film. Filming took place at Leavesden Studios in England from November 2019 to February 2020, with additional filming in San Francisco in February. The title was announced in April 2020. Marco Beltrami was hired to compose the film's score, replacing Ludwig Göransson from the previous film.

However, the real question is: Do David Michelinie and Mark Bagley do the character work to justify Venom's change in alignment?

On Episode 6 of X-Ray Vision, Jason Concepcion and Rosie Knight go raving with a Symbiote! In Previously On… they discuss the absolute madness that is Sony's Venom: Let There be Carnage as well as the MCU reverberations of the film's stinger (1:12). Then, in The Airlock, they dive deep (deeeep) into the finale of the Disney+ show What If…? and the ongoing multiversal trials and tribulations of the MCU (34:21). Next, Jason cracks open the Omnibus to explore the origins and popularity of the symbiote suit that ultimately becomes Eddie Brock's Venom (1:00:25). In The Hive Mind, Jason chats with What If…? head writer A.C. Bradley and series director Bryan Andrews about Zombie Wanda, writing and directing animation, the tragic loss of Chadwick Boseman, and drinking whisky while writing Darcy Lewis and Party Thor (1:19:33). In The Endgame, Jason and Rosie play Face Off, pondering the question of which characters (if any!) from across all franchises, properties, and universes could possibly defeat Infinite Ultron (1:39:28). Don Quixote, published in two parts in 1605 and 1615 by Miguel de Cervantes, and widely considered one of the foundational literary texts of all time; it follows a nobleman (Don Quixote) who deliriously desires to become a chivalric knight of yore and looks for prospective damsels in distress to rescue with the aid of his squire, a peasant farmer named Sancho Panza. Available everywhere you can get a book (go for physical if you can). Gorr, The God Butcher, To be played by Christian Bale in the upcoming Taika Waititi directed fourth installment in the Thor franchise of the MCU - Thor: Love and Thunder. For a while in the comics, Gorr wielded the Necrosword, forged by Knull, the progenitor of the symbiotes, thus the symbiote/Thor connection. On this month's episode of The Comics Pals Book Club, we chose to read the quintessential Venom solo story, Lethal Protector! In honor of the film's release, we wanted to take a look at the story that inspired the movie, and while the connections are certainly there, the book may actually be a deeper character analysis than the movie is. Give the episode a listen, let us know your thoughts, and tell us what comic book you'd like us to feature on a future episode of the book club!

Its our FINAL STOP on the road to the highly anticipated Venom film due out October 5th! To prepare for the movie, the guys at CBC decided to look at some of the source material used for the production, specifically Venom's first story arc Venom: Lethal Protector. Considered required reading when you think of the character, Lethal Protector follows Eddie Brock as he ditches the NYC Skyline for San Francisco, hoping to become a hero himself. Instead he is met with a slew of bad guys, shifty businessmen and the Life Foundation, a group of rich people arming themselves for the apocalypse. Its one wild ride but shows how great the symbiotic relationship between Brock and Venom truly is! If you can, please leave us a review on ITunes so we can grow our audience and grow as podcasters! You want teeth? Venom’s got teeth! As his first movie approaches release, we thought we’d read his first titular miniseries, Venom: Lethal Protector from 1993. Venom travels through time*, fights five different versions of his own symbiote spawn, and deals with three different dudes in suits. And we’ve got a special no-prize going out to the first listener to count all the teeth in these issues! PLUS! We read the penultimate issue of Crisis on Infinite Earths...and it's good? Next Time: We wrap up Crisis on Infinite Earths with issue #12 and start our next long reading project, Secret Wars (1984) #1! *Venom does not travel through time.
Venom hits theaters in October, and to get ready, we’re covering his first solo series, Venom: Lethal Protector. A heavy influence for the upcoming movie, this book shows Eddie Brock trying to become the hero San Francisco is missing and introduces some other symbiotes and a shady corporation we might see in the movie.Warning: We will be reviewing the book in excruciating detail. If you have not read it and want to, please read the book (and/or check out a previous episode) before listening to this episode.
