I grew up learning about horse's whorls (or whirls or swirls) and have always found them fascinating! One of the first things I always do when I meet a horse is to check out their whorls (and their ears and their profile and their eyes, their chin, etc.) Because of this fascination, I was pretty excited to chat with Noce Miller. Miller is the author of Understanding Horse Whorls. Miller says: "Looking at whorls is a time honored method of judging a horse's temperament. Long held as superstition, there is science to back it up. Hair and brain are formed from the same fetal cell layer. Because they form at the same time it makes sense that as a fetus develops the hair growing over the brain, and body, can shows signs of what is going on underneath." https://horsewhorls.com/ https://www.facebook.com/groups/horsewhorls/ https://a.co/d/8tZzfaz (Understanding Horse Whorls on Amazon) --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/cait-lynch/message

In 2005, an American adaption of a UK cringe-com written by a former Simpsons writer became an unexpected hit on iTunes. So despite middling ratings, the show was given a second season and a second chance. It went on to become the defining sitcom of a generation, and one of the most streamed series of all time. Through every early development of online content, The Office was right there, riding the wave of technology and culture trends. And when the Writers Guild of America went on strike in 2007, one of the guild's biggest battlegrounds was The Internet - and The Office writers were there on the picket lines, fighting for the future they had forged. In December 2016, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was released into the world. With six weeks of reshoots, a painfully short edit, an unexpected election and a new composer after the first one dropped out due to "scheduling issues", the film was finally finished - the day before its premiere. But was it successful? And more importantly, was it political? In this final episode of Going Rogue, we look at Rogue One's release, and legacy, and the new life it's about to take in Andor. Rogue One has now fascinated and captivated me for longer than every person who worked on it (expect John Knoll) - but why? What is it the film that haunts my every waking hour? I saw it in IMAX yesterday and I finally clocked Tony Gilroy's cameo. Did you know Tony Gilroy has a cameo in Rogue One? It's just his voice but he's the Rebel traffic controller who asks for their callsign and when Bodhi's like "... Rogue One?" it's Gilroy who says "Rogue One? There is no Rogue One?!" and honestly what a choice to make for the cameo. Gareth Edwards launches the Tantive V and saves the rebellion. Gilroy says "There is no Rogue One". In 2001, The Bourne Identity went through four rounds of reshoots, after going massively over budget and over schedule. The final product, partly directed and potentially edited by producer Frank Marshall instead of director Doug Liman, was a hit. Liman wasn't invited back for the sequel, but writer Tony Gilroy was. In 2016, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story went through six weeks of reshoots and a massive, post-directors cut re-edit, under the guidance of Tony Gilroy - initially as a writer, and later as a lot more. Lucasfilm would essentially bury his role during the film's promotion, but thanks to the Writers Guild of America, Gilroy got a screenplay credit. To do so, he essentially had to remake Rogue One. Noche walks us through the meaning of horse whorls and the benefits of trick training horses. With whorls, her analysis goes beyond the forehead whorl and considers head shape as well as all the other whorls that appear on a horse's body. She paints a clear picture of what we can tell of the inner workings of the horse by looking at the outside of the body. Once considered folklore, science has caught up and validated the analysis of whorls as an accurate predictor of temperament in horses. Saddle up for a conversation about understanding horse whorls and incorporating tricks into your horse's training to help you better understand your horse and develop a solid working relationship together. Psst ... You'll get a glimpse of Noche's skill during a whorl analysis of both my horses during the interview. Bonus! Early on in this Overdrive Radio edition showcasing trucker-songwriter "Long Haul Paul" Marhoefer's new "Corn Belt Cafe" long-player, the Overdrive Extra contributor describes standing at the register of a roadside diner somewhere in Illinois on Labor Day in the early 1980s. "Right in front of the counter there was a worn spot in the linoleum," Marhoefer said, and "standing in the blackness of that worn spot in the linoleum ... was one of those moments where you're surprised by a sense of bliss." It was as if Marhoefer "had entered the portal of some one-ness," he said, a sense of being a part of a living history, of a fashion. "That's something you don't talk about if you're a straight-truck driver from Indiana," as Marhoefer was at the time, though the memory stuck with him through the years. So many of those old roadside diners are gone, as is so much else, and you get the sense listening to "Corn Belt Cafe" that Marhoefer feels keenly the loss, a pervasive sense that permeates much of the record. The disc was recorded almost entirely in live takes in-studio with a principal partner in Michael Ronstadt, on the cello. The pair were able to evoke an appropriately earthy feel throughout, and the record features contributions from songwriters other than Marhoefer, and a couple co-writes with trucking fellow travelers Ken “Shoestring” Waugh, who sadly passed away last year, and Alabama-based J.D. Haynes. All in all, "Corn Belt Cafe" is something of a first for Marhoefer, in that the record and it's 12 tracks have a cohesiveness that's maybe less apparent on some of his prior efforts, a throwback to an era in which the album was the ultimate product for any musical act. Take a run through several stand-out tracks, many informed by Marhoefer's long trucking past, in today's edition of Overdrive Radio. RUEN BROTHERS were inspired by their music aficionado father who raised the duo on a steady diet of The Rolling Stones and The Everly Brothers, the two would rehearse in the family kitchen while scrounging for gigs in their blue-collar hometown of Scunthorpe, England. The brothers quickly collected a global audience of fans, none more influential than iconic producer Rick Rubin, who quickly recognized their talent and promptly took the brothers under his wing. The brothers' artistic background and pedigree come into full focus on their debut studio album ‘All My Shades of Blue'. KITTEL & CO. is a contemporary string collective fronted by violin virtuoso Jeremy Kittel (formerly of the GRAMMY award-winning Turtle Island Quartet). Kittle has worked such diverse artists as My Morning Jacket, Yo-Yo Ma & the Silk Road Ensemble, and Bela Fleck & Abigail Washburn but for the last few years, the Brooklyn-based artist has been diligently building his own repertoire of music for a wholly original new group. ‘Whorls' is the band's debut album on Compass Records and it inhabits the space between classical and acoustic roots, Celtic and bluegrass aesthetics, folk and jazz sensibilities. The brothers’ artistic background and pedigree come into full focus on their debut studio album ‘All My Shades of Blue’. ‘Whorls’ is the band’s debut album on Compass Records and it inhabits the space between classical and acoustic roots, Celtic and bluegrass aesthetics, folk and jazz sensibilities. WoodSongs Kids: Ivey Station is a siblingfiddle duo from Cedar Bluff, Alabama made up of Jenalee and Elijah Roberts.

"In 1913 Futurist Luigi Russolo developed several noise machines, which he named ‘intonarumori’. In his manifesto, The Art of Noise, Russolo argued that musical instruments could no longer satisfy man's thirst for sounds. Almost 100 years later, people are still exploring the possibilities of sound. This is what I tried to capture in this mix - testing the limits of sound, from shrieking highs to almost imperceptible lows, finding new ways of interpreting and portraying life through the medium of sound. Despite including over 100 artists, the mix by no means represents a completist viewpoint; so many perhaps important artists in the development of 'noise' were left out. It was not my intention to do a 'who's who' of noise music, but rather to show how the exploration of sound has developed over time and how fascinating these explorations are. I did at times take into account the historical significance of the piece/artist when choosing tracks, although I was steered mainly by what was sonically interesting to me. Well that's it - the mix should speak for itself. If you are interested in digging deeper please follow the links provided. Listen at maximum volume and enjoy."
