Are you thinking about changing careers?  He went to chiropractic school, studying medical science for years. Then, he opened his own business, running a chiropractic clinic. Most people at that point would coast for the rest of their life. Stay in their comfort zone and enjoy the “nice income” of a chiropractor, and chill till retirement.  That’s the conventional plan for most chiropractors. You can’t blame them. After devoting so much time, energy, and finances to a career like chiropractic care, who wants to start over in a new field? Jesse Chappus, that’s who.  Jesse is an “outside the box” thinker. After only four and a half years working as a chiropractor, he knew that he had not yet found his ultimate career path. His passion for health and wellness was evident to his patients, yet Jesse wanted to somehow help more people in a way that felt better aligned with his personality and skills.   While his chiropractic business steadily grew, Jesse enjoyed listening to podcasts. What he didn’t realize is that seeds of destiny were being planted every time he hit play.  This episode is fantastic for budding entrepreneurs in the health and wellness space. Or people not yet in the health and wellness space wanting to pivot their career in this direction.  Listen in as Jesse shares how he made the dramatic career change from chiropractor to full-time podcaster. You get the full story - no sugar coating: the financial “tightness” at the beginning, his transition, and how Jesse grew his Ultimate Health Podcast over time to be one of the most listened to health and wellness shows on the internet.  As a lifelong learner, Jesse continuously researches the most current information on nutrition and natural health.  In this episode, our host Wade Lightheart also gets Jesse to share some of his perspectives on health and wellness. Jesse is a former long-distance runner and cyclist who now enjoys focusing on shorter, more purposeful exercises to accommodate his current lifestyle as a busy dad.   In this podcast, we cover: How Jesse shifted from chiropractor to podcaster The structure and goals of The Ultimate Health Podcast business Some of the “extreme” health programs Jesse has experimented with and what he learned  Why Jesse is a big fan of kettlebells for exercise Jesse’s current diet and his history of eating plans  Some biohacks and technologies Jesse enjoys using Why Jesse likes the Oura Ring (link below) Why red light therapy is one of his favorite biohacks  Why Jesse kept referring to “getting back to the basics” of health How does it feel to do what you love for a living? What are the mental health benefits? Jesse said: “It’s huge for me. I get to learn about what I would be learning about anyways (as a chiropractor.) I prepare for interviews intensely, going really in-depth with my questions. I interview a lot of authors in the health and wellness space. I soak up their books. Then I have these incredible conversations where I pick people’s brains, and I get to continue to learn. That is so phenomenal.    Everything is so aligned with what I do. It’s hard to put into words. I get to learn and make money doing something I love. Plus, I get to help people at the same time! I am so grateful for this.  It was just something that came together organically. Me and my wife doing what we were passionate about as a career. All I can say is just ‘gratitude.’ Even the way we make revenue with our business is just beautiful. We’re sharing products that we use and love. That’s how we generally make money is through sponsorships and affiliate links. We help people and make money doing that. It’s a win-win-win-win all around. I’m very grateful!”  Testing the Extremes and Coming Back to the Middle Wade is a big believer in pushing the limits for a short period of time for learning purposes but then pulling back to the center to regain equilibrium. Wade asks Jesse, “What are some of the extreme things you’ve done in experimentation that taught you a lesson, and then you pulled back from the adventure or the dysfunction or the breakdown and centered back in the middle?  Jesse: “I mentioned earlier about diet. I’ve experimented with diets across the board - from raw food to keto. And then I’ve come back to the middle. That’s where I am now. Again, it’s not sexy to talk about, but I like eating organic, whole foods. I’m just eating clean foods all the time. It’s a default. There’s no choice in the matter for me.  “We talked before about having too much on my plate when I was building the show with my wife. I was working all day and even between patients working on the show and then coming home at night and pushing it till maybe 11 pm working on the podcast. Then, waking up and doing it all over again. On the weekends, I was doing most of the traveling to meet my girlfriend (now my wife.) I was redlining - pushing real hard..  Now, I can look back at that time and see the importance of balance. Now I'm lucky enough to be in a position where I can say “no” to many things and go all-in on the show. I’m so big on focusing on what you do well, what you love to do. I've been an advocate of that for years. I’m a big fan of focus. If I had to pick one word in business that I would stand behind, it’s focus.” Jesse Chappus' inspiring story provides hope for those feeling like something is missing in their career. Wade describes it like “your music is missing a bass guitar.” Do you feel like something isn’t quite right with your career or life? If you’re seeking to enter the health and wellness space, be sure to tune in to this episode. Successful podcasters in the health and wellness space like Jesse are some of the happiest people you will ever meet.  Whatever new career path you want to take - go for it! In our unscripted and uncensored conversation today, Jesse and I touch on a variety of topics, including the balance between ambition and happiness, why you don’t have to wait to experience freedom and joy, dealing with negative opinions, preparing for disasters, and much more.  If you want to better understand how you can expand your life (not out of fear) and experience more freedom and joy, this episode is for you! During today’s conversation, here’s what you’ll learn: Why it’s so hard to make a difference in the world if you’re not having fun. Why people who focus their energy on producing amazing free content break Jesse’s heart. The difference between rejection and refusal - and why the responses you get from people often have nothing to do with you personally. How being curious and hungry can bring out curiosity and hunger in others. The value of being prepared for disasters, war, and power outages - and why it’s important to be “aware, but not afraid” and “prepared, but not paranoid.” Why Jesse sees his life as indestructible. Jesse and I have always been pretty particular about what we wanted to name our children. Though, before we got pregnant with Kathrynne, we both just knew that her name would be Liberty. Unfortunately, with the last name Paine, not every name fits properly.  The most important piece in naming our children was the meaning behind their name. For every single one of our kids, the meaning came first and then we were able to look at the spelling and make their names unique.  The kids get asked all the time how they feel about the unique spelling of their names but all of them really like them. Which is why when Kierstyn was born, the girls were adamant that she have a K name and that it have a “yn” just like theirs.  Listen as we share how we chose each of their names and why they all embody our wishes for our kids. While all of their names are true to our wishes over their lives, Kierstyn’s middle name represents the miracle that she is.  Do you or your kids have a unique name as well? We are always on the lookout for fun and unique stories to illustrate important life lessons.  And recently we stumbled across a video online of Jesse Itzler sharing his experience inviting a Navy Seal to live with his family for 31 days and following his every command.   Now, here’s the catch. Jesse did this voluntarily. And the man he invited is none other than David Goggins -- who many regard as the world’s toughest man. David is the only member of the U.S. Armed Forces to complete SEAL training (including two Hell Weeks), the U.S. Army Ranger School (where he graduated as Enlisted Honor Man) and Air Force Tactical Air Controller training.  David also once held the Guinness record for most pull-ups in a single day and has run over 60 ultra-marathons. Why would Jesse (the owner of the NBA Atlanta Hawks who has enough money to never have to work another day in his life) decide to invite David into his home and subject himself to the most intense workouts imaginable? Well in this episode, Eva shares some of the hilarious stories from Jesse’s experience, and most importantly, explains WHY Jesse made this decision. This is a really fun episode that you will love listening to as a family, and Eva even issues a mini-challenge at the end!  For show notes, please visit DreamBigPodcast.com/167

Business Coaching with Join Up Dots

Baseball Genius Jesse Cole, Shows How He Is Changing Baseball Forever My guest today, on the Steve Jobs inspired Join Up Dots free podcast interview is a man who is bold, crazy, inspired, committed and having the time of his life. He is the owner of two baseball teams that are quite frankly doing things a bit differently, and the world is taking note – Big Time He is the founder of Fans First Entertainment, which operates the Gastonia Grizzlies and the Savannah Bananas, and also a keynote speaker, and host of the Business Done Differently Podcast. Which is a boring way of telling you what he does, to be honest. He has taken a countries passion for baseball and turned it on its head, by creating an experience not just about what is happening (or is not happening on the pitch) but what is happening everywhere. He joined the industry in 2008 as General Manager of the Gastonia Grizzlies. It was here that he started providing a circus-like atmosphere at his ballparks. From dancing players, Grandma Beauty Pageants, and Flatulence Fun Nights to porta-john giveaways and garbage can nachos, he has tried it all The “show” worked and the Grizzlies began breaking attendance records annually. In 2014, he bought the Grizzlies and started Fans First Entertainment with his then-fiancé and Grizzlies Director of Fun, Emily. In 2015, the two of them then started a new Coastal Plain League team in Savannah, GA. It was announced on February 25, 2016 that the team would be named the Savannah Bananas. From there, the team quickly became a hit all over the country, in part thanks to coverage from national media outlets, including ESPN, CNN, and Good Morning America. Merchandise sold to all 50 states and 6 countries. In the first year, the team sold out 18 of 25 games and broke the attendance record for both Grayson Stadium and the Coastal Plain League. To top it off, the Bananas won the Coastal Plain League Championship. As he says he “I am just getting started”. His teams are continually reinventing as they look to change the baseball industry and the entertainment experience for fans. So how has he managed to stand firm against a world of conformity and create something new and exciting? And did he ever have the huge doubts that a new way should not be his way in future? Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only Jesse Cole Show Highlights During the show we discussed such weighty topics with Jesse Cole such as: How he managed to break down not only the barriers around him but also the barriers in his own mind, which allowed him to do the unthinkable What he did to grow his team, and find the right people that bought in his vision of where he wanted to head. Why Jesse can see clearly that although the timing wasnt perfect when he joined the Grizzlies, in fact it was in fact the perfect time. The truth that anyone who starts something can see. and lastly…. Why he connected with Barack Obama and offered an internship at the Baseball ground, much to the amusement of himself and his team.
