TheEverydayLifeBalanceShow|Transform Your Life!|Weekly Interviews and Insights on Life Balance and Harmony With Bestselling A

................................. FULL TRANSCRIPT ................................. Do you agree that the time to start the new year with a head start is now, not January? Hi, I'm Pascale Gibon. Welcome to episode 269 of The Everyday Life Balance show. Thank you for tuning in. In my “Discover My Best Tips For A Successful Year” series, that's episodes 136 to 145 I contemplated the idea of starting the new year on a blank canvas. I love this idea of reinvention through creativity. We must harness our divine gifts and put them to good use to live our lives powerfully. Whatever happened this year is gone, and you cannot get this time back. The good news, however, is that there is always room for you to reinvent yourself. That is part of the magic of life? Tony Robbins said: “One of the things that make us so special is our ability to adapt, to transform, to manipulate objects or ideas to produce something more pleasing or useful." To start the new year on a clean slate, you need to clean your cupboard, so to speak, and decide now what you choose to let go of and not take with you in the new year. An easy way to act on this recommendation is to look at what worked for you this year and what did not. What is the new and better you emerging in the forthcoming year? To reinvent yourself, you need a clear vision and new habits. Albert Einstein said: “Problems cannot be solved with the same mindset that created them.” That's why you need to take leadership of your life with a clear vision and new success-led habits.  Positive change through personal development is a communion with your best self so that you can live your life powerfully. Therefore, it entails effort on your part. To activate your self-growth process, you need to commit to: Letting go of what does not work Keeping doing what works Trying something new, like a new habit of growth What are you willing to commit to in the forthcoming year? Take some time this week to think of the new habit or habits you are happy to introduce in the new year so that you already have a vision for your life and something to move toward. When you create a vision for your life and have a roadmap, you know where to direct your life instead of being lost in multiple directions. Jesse Itzler, for example, has an annual planning calendar that he fills in advance to include all of the activities he wishes to experience and, most importantly, how he will spend his precious time. His Big A## Calendar that helps you Build Your  Life Resume is a year in view to plan and dominate your year and works well for people who are orderly and love to plan things well in advance. Above all, it is a notable process for individuals who love to have fun, challenge themselves and do more of the things they love. What does your vision for your life look like as you build a better you? My energy is high because I am on purpose. I am committed to increasing my leadership in the new year and creating new habits. These new habits will be related to giving more, improving productivity, and creating impact, but also doing things I love doing I have not done for a while, like dancing and singing or trying new things like cooking classes, for example. What about you? What are your vision for your life and your business if this applies? What are the three things you commit to improving in your life? If three things seem overwhelming, What is the one thing you commit to improving in your life? A new year, a new you, means not repeating the same patterns that limit your happiness and progress. It is about accomplishing your dreams and not just thinking about them. It serves the purpose of improving the quality of your life and cultivating great relationships with others. it's about mind-body balance, improving your character and keeping in good shape with high energy levels. It's about giving more. What does a new year, a new you, mean to you? Now is your time to get a head start. Go ahead and take some time to journal on these three questions. You will be part of the 3% who set goals and do whatever it takes to achieve them. Here are the questions again: What does a new year, a new you, mean to you? What are your vision for your life and your business if this applies? What are the three things you commit to improving in your life? Have your goals in writing, set 30, 60 or 90-day goals or have a yearly plan, like Jesse Itzler, whatever works best for you and follow through throughout the year by taking the necessary actions. Do you wonder what's next? what your next steps are and need help with clarifying your life direction? If so, I have opened up my calendar for 30-minute "What's Next Breakthrough Sessions." JESSE ITZLER only eats fruit 'til noon, loves (and managed!) Run-D.M.C., and enjoys living life “out of the box.” In fact, he doesn't even have a box. As one of the world's top rated live speakers, Jesse is the author of the New York Times bestselling book “Living With a Seal” as well as the hit “Living With The Monks.” He is the co-founder of Marquis Jet, the world's largest private jet card company which he and his partner sold to Warren Buffett's NetJets; Zico Coconut Water, which he and his partners sold to The Coca-Cola Company; and 29029 which he and his team sold to iFit. ‍ Jesse has had a very unconventional journey as an entrepreneur. With no traditional background in any of the companies he's built, he's created success through fostering relationships, trusting his gut and thinking outside of the box. He's lived on a monastery with monks, ran several 100-mile races, and trained with Wim Hof in the art of cold therapy and breath work. He started Build Your Life Resume® as a way to share his best practices in business, wellness and mindset, as well as his approach to living life to the fullest with as many people as possible. ‍ He's a former rapper on MTV and wrote and performed the NBA's Emmy Award-winning “I Love This Game” music campaign and the popular New York Knicks anthem “Go NY Go.” When he's not running ultra-marathons, eating vegan food or being a dad to his four kids, Jesse can be found at the NBA's Atlanta Hawks games, where he's an owner of the team. 58. How To Rebuild Yourself After Trauma With Faith, Hope, and Mindset, Timothy Phelps is the Author of The Invisible Child: Overcoming the Odds

An Interview with Melissa Llarena

Play Episode Listen Later Jan 26, 2021 62:01

What if you could reframe anything including 2020 as a year that had its positives? Meet Timothy Phelps. During this very vulnerable conversation, he shares how he overcame early childhood traumas and how by changing his mindset he overcame being homeless. This conversation covers a lot including how he was able to forgive those who hurt him, the way he was able to balance his reality with his massive ambitions when he was homeless, and how he sees 2020. Here is a bit more about Timothy whom I met by way of Jessie Itzler’s Build Your Life Resume community. We were both seeking to rekindle our sense of adventure and his courage stuck out during a training with Jens Pulver a retired MMA champion who also experienced trauma.   Timothy endured child abuse and neglect, quickly developing self-doubts, fears, and depression at a young age. School was his safe haven, although it was not truly safe, as he endured bullying. Phelps hated life, and after being told multiple times he was a mistake, should’ve never been born, and should just kill himself, he attempted suicide on multiple occasions. After battling drug and alcohol addictions, he almost succeeded, but then God! Phelps had a long journey to overcome the odds and ensure he was not a statistic.   The journey was rough, even finding himself homeless, but his desire was greater than his situation. Phelps gained a strong desire to learn and grow, finding success in real estate before being called to tell his story and help others who’ve been through similar situations. His first book, "The Invisible Child: Overcoming the Odds" was published early 2020.  Phelps was told it's lonely at the top, but he believes it's only lonely if you're not willing to take others with you. He desires to utilize his talents, skills, and experiences to help others climb their own mountain. Phelps believes we all have hurdles in which we must overcome. He believes we all need someone in our corner, and knows with God and massive ambition, anyone can overcome the odds! Due to these beliefs, Phelps helps others in overcoming one of the biggest obstacles they'll face, their own mindset, ultimately assisting in their own personal transformation, for the lifestyle they deserve.   Share this episode with three of your friends who you consider to be strong and resilient. Chances are their strength was necessary to get through life challenges.   Highlights   Story: On writing a memoir that includes your traumatic childhood. Forgiveness: Timothy sat with his parents prior to publishing his memoir asking for their blessing. Poem: A reading of The Invisible Child poem. Excuses: Using your bad deck of cards as an excuse vs. a superpower. Suicide: Did God really talk to Timothy? Homeless: The turning point when Timothy was in the tunnel where he slept. Cognitive Dissonance: How can you balance being homeless yet having “massive ambitions”? Faith: What is true faith? Mantras: Never back down, never give up. Self-Belief:  How can anyone see themselves differently after being “brainwashed”? Mindset: Change your mindset, change your life. What is the magic mirror? Goals: How to retrain yourself to see success? First Step: Seek a community to join if you’ve suffered trauma that’s step one. Compassion: You don’t know what others are going through at all.     Links to quench your curiosity:   Website: www.coachphelpscanhelp.com Follow Timothy on Instagram Find Timothy on Facebook Adult Survivors of Child Abuse   Did you enjoy the conversation?  Ever wish you could be a fly on the wall? Since this is the Dream Big Podcast, Eva spends a lot of time talking about themes like setting goals, working hard, and being confident.   But we understand that achieving big dreams alone is not nearly as satisfying or fulfilling as sharing the journey with those you love -- both your family and close friends.   At a family dinner a few weeks ago, Eva mentioned that we should talk more about how to make and keep great friends.  And then just a few days later we heard Jesse Itzler, founder of Build Your Life Resume, talking about the 3 Cs of being a great friend.  He credits the 3 Cs for his success both in personal and business relationships.  Jesse’s framework is so simple to follow and implement that Eva decided to share it with all the Big Dreamer’s in this week’s episode.  Tune in to discover the 3 Cs and how they can transform the relationships in your life!   Thank you Jesse for the wonderful insight, as always!   Show notes at DreamBigPodcast.com/212

In today’s episode, Eva shares a concept that our family learned from an incredible man by the name of Jesse Itzler.   If you follow Jesse on social media, you know that he is always smiling, always laughing, and always having epic experiences.   This is no accident -- Jesse is committed to building what he calls a “Life Resume.”  Not the traditional resume that most people think about that lists your work experience when you are applying for a job, but a resume that reflects all the amazing and unique experiences you have created in your life.  Jesse’s personal life resume is chock-full of unique experiences that the vast majority of people would, quite frankly, not voluntarily sign up for…  Like the time Jesse invited a Navy Seal to live in his house for 31 days to push him to his mental and physical limits.  But Jesse is not encouraging his community to copy his resume -- but instead to build your own life resume that you can look back and marvel at one day.   Jesse’s concept of a Life Resume has deeply impacted our entire family -- including Eva and our youngest daughter Sophia who have both adopted this mindset of seeking out new skills and new adventures.  Eva shares in this episode how she has already started to build out her Life Resume, how she continues to do so even during this pandemic, and how having the “Build Your Life Resume” mindset leads to actually scheduling epic experiences and making them happen.      Links are in the show notes at DreamBigPodcast.com/206

Jesse’s Wild Idea: To encourage people to achieve massive things in their life and focus on what matters most. Today’s guest eats only fruit until noon. He loves Run-DMC. He wrote the New York Knicks anthem, “Go New York Go,” and he likes to live life out of the box. In his New York Times bestselling book, Living with a Seal, Jesse invited Navy Seal David Goggins to live with him for a month and train him. Years later he wrote Living with Monks, where he lived in a monastery in upstate New York. Both of his books are about learning lessons that others have to teach you, something Jesse is passionate about. Early in his career, Jesse was a rapper and wrote and performed in the NBA’s Emmy Award-winning “I Love This Game” music campaign. Prior to being a best-selling and hilarious author, he co-founded Marquis Jet, the world's largest private jet card company which he and his partner sold to Berkshire Hathaway/NetJets. Jesse then partnered with Zico coconut water, which he and his partner sold to The Coca-Cola Company. He is also a serious adventurer, running ultramarathons and launched an event a few years ago called 29,029 that brings “Everesting” to individuals around the country. Today, he’s the owner of the Atlanta Hawks, husband to Spanx founder Sara Blakely, and a father of four kids. His latest online course, called “Build Your Life Resume,” is all about encouraging you to get out there and build a life full of experiences, creating memories, achieving big goals and doing more. With an infectious energy about him, Jesse has some great insights about how we spend our time, and how we can use this knowledge to live more fully and be more present with those we love. In our conversation, we talk about goal setting, why you have to give in order to get, how to support your partner, why we all need to get real with time, and how to achieve one massive thing every year. Listen to this episode if:  You like living life on your own terms.  You’re want to set and accomplish big goals. Productivity is not a superpower, but a result of effective time management. Roman philosopher Seneca said, “It’s not that we have a short time to live, but that we waste a lot of it.” Today, that sentiment is even more true than it was in the Roman years. With the advent of cell phones, social media, and television, we’re more disconnected than ever. That’s why I’m so excited to share today’s guest with you. Jesse Itzler has done plenty of impressive things with his time. From managing Run-DMC to starting and selling profitable businesses, to running 100-mile ultra-marathons, Jesse has had a successful life thus far. But recently, he started thinking about how to better manage his time and channel his intuition. This journey led him to a monastery in upstate New York, where he spent 15 days learning incredible life lessons. On this episode of the Model Health Show, Jesse is sharing the powerful lessons he learned from his experience living with monks. He’s sharing powerful tips about effective time management and focus, how to truly express gratitude, and how to find happiness while pursing your goals. His story is full of incredible wisdom and insight, I hope it will inspire you to unplug, reevaluate your priorities, and live up to your potential. In this episode you’ll discover: How Jesse fell in love with hip hop (and ultimately became the manager for Run-DMC!) The catalyst that inspired Jesse to go live with monks. How to create your own luck and make things happen in your life. The meaning of building your life resume. What the greatest secret weapon we all possess is. How the concept moderation is often used as an excuse. The misconceptions that Jesse held about monks. How to be more intentional about how you spend your time. A simple test you can use to identify what areas in your life to improve. The importance of consistently practicing gratitude. What it means to dodge the arrows. Why Jesse’s wife set up a 40-minute fake commute. How (and why!) to identify the places where you can think best. Why experience isn’t as important as most of us think. What monotasking is, and how you can use it to ramp up your productivity. The importance of saying no. How decision fatigue impacts your energy levels.
