This week, Ben and Rob chew their way through Troll 2 (1990), the infamous “worst movie of all time” that somehow became one of the great cult classics. Directed by Claudio Fragasso and billed as Italian horror, Troll 2 is a feast of wooden acting, baffling dialogue, and vegetarian goblins that has been confusing and delighting audiences for decades. Why is this film actually like this? What strange alchemy turned incompetence into schadenfreude gold? How do our own shameful pasts inform how we should watch Nilbog's cursed townsfolk? And could there be (hidden beneath the green slime and bizarre choices) a secret lesson about regret and the human condition?CONSUUUME to find out all this and much, much more!PLUS! Mike and Kelsey break down a big month of movies. They share their best and worst films for the month of August which saw everything from Lindsay Lohan returning to the big screen to Mike dragging Kelsey to the horror movie of the year despite hating Halloween movies. Mike also talks about what he believes will be the worst movie of the decade. In the Movie Review, Mike talks about Caught Stealing starring Austin Butler, Regina King, Zoë Kravitz and Bad Bunny. It’s about a burned-out ex-baseball player who unexpectedly finds himself embroiled in a dangerous struggle for survival amidst the criminal underbelly of 1990s New York City, forced to navigate a treacherous underworld he never imagined. Mike talks about Austin Butler’s performance as a lead, did the movie change Mike’s perception based on the trailer and why Bad Bunny and Action Bronson stole the show. In the Trailer Park, Mike talks about Good boy. It’s a horror film told entirely from the perspective of a dog. How the internet changed the trajectory of this movie and why horror is king in 2025. In Episode 407 of Friends Talking Nerdy, Professor Aubrey and Tim the Nerd dive into a packed lineup of topics, mixing nerd culture, activism, and a little wrestling nostalgia! The episode kicks off with a lively new segment, Best Film/Worst Film, inspired by The John Campea Show. This week, Aubrey and Tim put three legendary directors under the microscope: Steven Spielberg, Rob Reiner, and Quentin Tarantino. They debate and discuss the highs and lows from each filmmaker's career, covering classics like E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Jurassic Park, This Is Spinal Tap, When Harry Met Sally, The Princess Bride, Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill Volumes 1 and 2, and more — as well as some controversial misfires like Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Expect a spirited, insightful discussion full of hot takes and surprising opinions!Next, Professor Aubrey shares her experience participating in another Tesla Takedown protest. Dressed as a narwhal with a sign that boldly declared "Narwhals Against Nazis," she recounts the energy, creativity, and importance of standing up for what's right, blending humor with powerful activism.Tim the Nerd also has a lot to celebrate this week. He talks about his guest spot on The MCU's Bleeding Edge YouTube show, where he joined the crew to break down the 1985 action classic Commando starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. Get Tim's behind-the-scenes take and hear why this cheesy, bullet-riddled movie still holds a special place in action movie history. Finally, Tim discusses the WWE's recent efforts to upload more classic content to their official YouTube channel. He reflects on how YouTube may actually be a better home for some older, niche content — compared to platforms like Peacock — and draws interesting parallels to how beloved shows like Jeopardy find new life through accessible streaming options. As always, we wish to thank Christopher Lazarek for his wonderful theme song. Head to his website for information on how to purchase his EP, Here's To You, which is available on all digital platforms.Head to Friends Talking Nerdy's website for more information on where to find us online.

Hello and welcome back to The Dana Gould Hour. Your brief audio respite from the world's worst reality show, reality. Samm Deighan is here. She is a film historian and author and has written such books as The Legacy Of World War 2 in European Art House Cinema and a study of Fritz Lang's child murder romp M. Her new book, written with Andrew Nette is entitled Revolution In 35 MM, Political Violence And Resistance In Cinema, From The Art House To The Grindhouse 1960 to 1990. It covers everything from The Battle Of Algiers to Coffin Joe to Zabriskie Point. Harry Medved and Bennet Yellin are here. Harry Medved wrote the book the 50 Worst Movies of All Time when he was in high school! He was 15 when he wrote that book. And that was in the late 70's before VHS tapes. He also wrote, with his brother Michael, the Golden Turkey Awards, which, as you know, is what helped put Ed Wood back on the map in the mid-eighties. He has a series now on PBS called Locationland, where he takes audiences on a tour of famous film locations, this was back when films had locations, as opposed to standing in front of a green screen at a warehouse in Atlanta. I recently had the pleasure of joining Harry on a tour of the locations for a little film you may have heard me talk about, Plan 9 from Outer Space. Bennet Yellin is an author and screenwriter, he's written, with the Farrelly Brothers, There's Something About Mary, Dumb And Dumber, Dumb And Dumber Two. Bennet and Harry have been friends for eons and they are here to talk bad movies, good movies and Ed Wood movies which are, of course, an alchemic mixture of the two. True Tales From Weirdsville tells the tale of the place both wonderful and strange, Twin Peaks. Like everyone else I was super bummed out by the passing of David Lynch in January. I think it was a combination of things. The election, we were in the middle of these catastrophic fires and then, just when things couldn't get worse, they did. As much as I love David Lynch and his work, and have back to…I guess Blue Velvet, what he stood for meant more to me than any particular film or television show or what have you. He was uncompromising in his vision, you could like it or not. That wasn't the point. That's a rare thing these days, when studios and networks seem to be operating under the belief that the only audience worth getting is everyone alive, and anything less is a failure. Twin Peaks, it's origins, success, fall from grace and resurrection is a terrific microcosm of how Lynch's refusal to compromise created something far greater than the sum of it's parts, it flew against convention, challenged audiences. In the case of Fire Walk With Me, it really challenged audiences. But in every instance, time has proven Lynch's instincts were right, so we're going to do a two, possibly three part series on Lynch's career through the lens of Twin Peaks. And NOW, it's on to our filthy business. https://DanaGould.com
